Don’t Provoke the Wife Fans [E-Sport] – Chapter 16

Chapter 16 – Crying

The two of them already had a CP name, yet they had never formally greeted each other.

Tan Mo softened his tone a bit and said, “Hello, I’m Talk.”

Sang Ye moved back to his computer, barely managing to keep his expression steady. When he finally spoke, his voice wavered, “H-Hello… I’m Song…”

Even he felt embarrassed hearing himself, and he rubbed his face in frustration.

However, Tan Mo’s fans quickly rushed to the livestream chat upon hearing this boyish voice:

[“He’s so cute! So Talk, the macho straight guy, is into this type!”]

[“I was wondering why Talk kept messing with this small streamer. I mean, who wouldn’t love such a soft and adorable little beauty?”]

[“Praising his skills wasn’t enough—Talk also subtly complimented his smile. He’s definitely smitten.”]

Sang Ye’s face was still red as he frowned and said, “Stop shipping us, stop shipping us.”

If they kept at it, even he might start believing it.

“Talk and I are just simply—”

“It’s starting.”

Tan Mo interrupted him at this moment to remind him.

“Oh, okay.” Sang Ye was cut off and quickly pressed the ready button.

As the game started, Sang Ye, afraid of getting distracted, turned off the chat assistant. Facing the screen, he took a deep breath and calmed himself down.

Playing ranked games with three world champions—this was an opportunity even Elan hadn’t had. If he could perform well, he might even receive a tryout invitation from WLG.

Sang Ye glanced at the familiar ID in the teammates’ list and tightened his grip on the mouse.

He silently vowed to give it his all, to perform even better than in their last duo match.

He absolutely couldn’t let Talk down after receiving such praise.

As the ranked match began, the flight path stretched from the mines to Y City.

Tan Mo marked a spot on the map and said in a calm voice, “Look after the newcomer.”

Sang Ye’s hand twitched, almost making him jump out of the plane early.

“Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh~” Xiao Pai and Hufu started up again.

Sang Ye felt his face heat up from their antics and adjusted his headphones. “No need, I-I can keep up…”

After the four of them landed, they split into one, one, and two in the school area to loot.

Xiao Pai followed Tan Mo into the teaching building, while Sang Ye and Hu Fu took up positions in different parts of the school zone.

The early game pace was slow, and Xiao Pai had time to chat: “Last night, Nuo Nuo had dinner with us. Tan Shen, why did you treat him like that?”

Sang Ye was focused on aiming when suddenly he accidentally activated his sniper rifle. The recoil nearly sent him skyward; a barrage of bullets whizzed past the enemy without hitting, exposing their position and immediately drawing fire in return.

“D *mn!” Xiao Pai saw Sang Ye’s health plummet like he had jumped off a cliff. “Did you poke a hornet’s nest1 or something?”

Tan Mo quickly jumped out the window, his tone calm: “I’ll revive him, Xiao Pai, cover me, and Hu Fu, watch the rooftop.”

Sang Ye bit his lip, a wave of intense frustration washing over him.

At the start, during the first phase when the safe zone hadn’t even appeared, he had already misplayed and triggered a team fight, making him feel like a noob. He couldn’t help but wonder what Talk would think of him.

At that moment, the WLG team’s coach and manager were also watching the livestream.

The coach was specifically tuned into Sang Ye’s first-person perspective, and after witnessing that sequence of actions, he frowned: “That aim can be described as having no aim at all… How can he compare to Elan? By the way, did you send out the tryout invitations?”

“I did send it. First thing this morning,” Yu Haotian said. “Since he’s signed with a guild, contacting him directly could lead to complications. I had to send it to his agent, Jiang Lily, for her to pass it along. We’re still waiting for a reply.”

The coach nodded and continued watching.

In the game, Tan Mo quickly reached Sang Ye’s side and crouched down to revive him.

Sang Ye hung his head and remained silent.

There were still a few seconds left until the revival was complete.

Tan Mo’s low voice sounded: “Don’t be nervous, just follow me later.”

Sang Ye’s face instantly flushed bright red, and after a long pause, he managed to squeeze out a quiet, “Okay…”

Once Tan Mo revived him, he tossed two painkillers on the ground.

Before Sang Ye could pick them up, he heard that deep voice again:

“Last night, they had a dinner, but I didn’t go. Halfway through, Nuo Nuo called, but I was in a meeting, so I hung up right away.”

Sang Ye’s heart skipped a beat, and he froze, forgetting to move.

“Brother! Old Hu and I are getting shredded out here!” Xiao Pai shouted in the team chat, his voice strained. “Hurry up and help! You can comfort your wife fans later—your teammates are dying!”

The chat went wild with laughter:

[“Xiao Pai’s inner thoughts: The team’s fighting for their lives, and you’re sweet-talking your ‘wife’? Fine, I’m out. Hu Fu, come with me.”]

Tan Mo said nothing and made his way downstairs.

Sang Ye stood frozen by the window like he had disconnected.

“Bang!”

A sniper bullet whizzed through the air, past the window, and hit Sang Ye square in the temple.

His character dropped to the ground.

Sang Ye stared, dumbfounded.

Tan Mo, who had just reached the bottom floor: “…”

“Brother!” Xiao Pai sounded desperate, “Did he get knocked down again, or did you not revive him properly the first time?”

The chat exploded in laughter:

[“Hahahahahahahaha!!!”]

Sang Ye lay on the ground, wishing he could just bash his head into the wall.

Xiao Pai finally shut up.

The ranked match ended in silence, with their team placing third.

As soon as they returned to the lobby, Xiao Pai started shouting again, “Get ready, get ready! There are too few players at this rank, matchmaking takes forever.”

The other two had already hit the ready button, but Sang Ye hadn’t moved.

Xiao Pai went, “Huh?” and then suddenly realized something.

Could it be that his constant nagging earlier had made Sang Ye upset?

Just as Xiao Pai was about to explain, Tan Mo said, “Song, ready up.”

At first, there was no sound from Sang Ye’s side. Then the little speaker icon next to his ID flashed for a moment, letting out a faint sigh.

Tan Mo couldn’t see this, but the viewers in Sang Ye’s stream saw it clearly.

The fair-skinned, beautiful boy had red-rimmed eyes, his delicate face filled with frustration. He raised his hand to rub his eyes, opened his mouth, but couldn’t manage to speak.

[“Ahhhh! Don’t cry, Fugui! My heart is breaking!”]

[“Help! How can he be this adorable!!!”]

[“Tan Shen! Come comfort your wife!”]

Tan Mo sensed something was off and was about to glance at the chat when a raspy, dejected boy’s voice came through his headphones:

“I’m not nearly as good as you say…”

For some reason, Tan Mo’s heart tightened. He frowned, “You…”

But by then, that ID had already quietly gone offline.

  1. Hornet’s nest is a common English idiom that refers to a dangerous or difficult situation. It comes from the literal meaning of a hornet’s nest, which is a large nest built by hornets, and can be very dangerous if disturbed. ↩︎
