Part 3 of Chapter 49

Do You Still Hate Her? 39 – Becoming popular through a character trailer

As soon as Shang Lu entered Chi Yan’s room, she saw two dogs lying by the sofa.

Xiao Guai has just grown a little bit, but it was squeezed into a corner, with only a small head peeking out, looking quite pitiful.

However, next to it, there was a Samoyed that seemed to be in a cheerful mood.

Shang Lu originally wanted to say something, but the moment she saw the Samoyed, she instantly forgot everything.

Samoyeds were her favorite dogs because they always looked like eternal, silly angels, bringing joy to anyone who looked at them.

She slipped into her pink ladies’ slippers, which were almost exclusively hers by default, and rushed into the house without paying attention to anything else, asking, “Where did this dog come from?”

“I’ve kept it all this while,” Chi Yan replied as he bent down to pick up the shoes that had been kicked aside by Shang Lu and placed them in the shoe cabinet. He continued, “It was a little sick a while ago, and I didn’t have time to take care of it, so I had someone look after it for a while.”

Shang Lu eagerly reached out to play with the Samoyed, which had a very good temperament. It obediently extended its paw towards Shang Lu’s hand, as if it had met her before.

“It’s so cute, I love it,” Shang Lu hugged the Samoyed and rubbed her face against its fur, her face filled with happiness. Then, she looked at Chi Yan and asked, “What’s its name?”

Chi Yan didn’t answer, he just glanced at the little teddy bear puppy that had been ignored today and asked Shang Lu, “What do you think?”

Shang Lu was a bit puzzled at first but then realized Chi Yan’s hint. She wasn’t entirely sure, so she replied, “…Da Guai1?”

Chi Yan smiled, complimenting her, “Very clever.”

Shang Lu was a bit shocked, “Isn’t that name a bit too casual?”

“I’m too lazy to think of a name,” Chi Yan’s response was as honest as ever. He then brought out a plate of sliced mango from the kitchen and handed it to Shang Lu, as well as some snacks for both dogs.

“Young Master Chi is fair to both humans and dogs,” Shang Lu jokingly remarked, then forked a piece of mango and offered it to Chi Yan, suggesting that he should eat first.

However, Chi Yan didn’t take it as she expected. Instead, he lowered his head and ate the piece of mango directly from Shang Lu’s hand.

His breath lightly fell on the back of Shanglu’s hand, which made her briefly taken aback. When she realized, she instinctively wanted to retract her hand, but Chi Yan lifted his head first.

He looked so natural that Shang Lu felt like she might have overthought it. It was just feeding a piece of fruit, not something too intimate.

As if nothing had happened, Chi Yan walked towards the kitchen and instructed, “Just have two pieces, save some room for dinner; the meal will be ready soon.”

Chi Yan mentioned this, and Shang Lu only remembered what she wanted to say when she had just entered the room.

So Shang Lu put down the mango she was holding and trotted to the kitchen. She placed her hands on the door frame, closed her eyes, and sniffed.

“What kind of dish are you smelling now?” Chi Yan looked at her in this manner and found it somewhat funny.

“It’s not a meal, it’s a sour and sweet smell, it seems to have cream in it too,” Shang Lu said and then opened her eyes, took a deep breath, and walked to the oven.

Shang Lu turned around and looked at Chi Yan with a puzzled expression, using her eyes to inquire.

Chi Yan, however, avoided her gaze.

Shang Lu asked directly, “Is there a cake in there?”

“I was just idle, so I tried something random,” Shi Yan said, his voice getting lower, and then he awkwardly changed the topic, “Wash your hands before eating.”

Shang Lu ignored him and instead opened the oven in front of her.

A fragrant cake was placed inside, although the cream seemed to have been spread a bit unevenly, it still smelled very enticing.

So Shang Lu turned directly to Chi Yan and asked, “I think it looks good, can I eat it?”

“I made it casually, take it if you want,” Chi Yan said as he already walked out with a plate of dishes, leaving only a sentence behind, “What I make may not be as delicious as what they sell outside.”

Although he said that.

But Shang Lu felt that Chi Yan not only had talent in cooking, but also in pastries. Apart from being a bit ugly, there was nothing wrong with this cake, and the taste was at a level that could be sold in a store.

After Shang Lu had eaten the fruit, the meal, and a large piece of cake, she felt a bit full and showed a look of regret.

Chi Yan noticed and asked her, “What’s wrong, is there something you didn’t like about the dishes?”

Shang Lu shook her head, her eyes revealing seven parts of happiness and three parts of regret, “No, it’s just too delicious. I just forgot that I’m an actress.”

These few days have been too indulgent.

But fortunately, she didn’t have any scene tomorrow morning, so she can get up and exercise before appearing on camera. It won’t have much impact, but she should still restrain herself a bit in the future.

However, her phone received a call from an unknown number, saying that there was a delivery for her, and the sender was Shang Mu.

Shang Lu found it puzzling and didn’t understand what Shang Mu was up to, so she asked the courier to just discard the package.

The courier expressed his dilemma.

If she made a hasty decision that could potentially cost someone their job, it wouldn’t be good. So, Shang Lu reconsidered and said, “Bring it up, I’ll sign for it.”

It was a cardboard box, very light, and she had no idea what was inside.

Chi Yan stood at the door and asked directly, “Do you need me to help you get rid of it?”

Shang Lu handed the box to Chi Yan and said, “Sure, thanks.”

Although she didn’t know what was inside, she didn’t care either.

Shang Lu yawned and prepared to go back, put on a face mask, do some yoga, and then go to bed early.

*

Downstairs.

Chi Yan stood in front of the trash can and was about to throw the box into it.

An old lady walked by and said to him, “Young man, if you don’t want that cardboard box, please give it to me.”

Behind the old lady was a middle-aged man who looked helpless as he explained, “I’m sorry, my mom has been like this for many years. Even though we have become better off, she can’t change her old habits. She still picks up cardboard and plastic bottles when she sees them. If you don’t mind, could you please give it to her?”

Since it was all going to be discarded anyway, Chi Yan didn’t mind and said, “Sure, I can help you open it.”

Chi Yan picked up a sharp-edged stone from the roadside and used it to cut the tape on the cardboard box. He opened the cardboard box and revealed a doll lying inside.

It was a cute little rabbit.

The rabbit was originally white, but because many years had passed, its long ears had turned slightly yellow, and the small dress it was wearing had a large tear in it. There were obvious traces of crooked stitching with thread.

Chi Yan’s expression darkened slightly.

He took the doll out from it and handed the cardboard to the old lady.
