Wen Le of Rebirth in the End Times (BL) – Chapter 26 War Profiteers

When Wen Le fell asleep, he didn’t know. When he woke up, the entrance to the cave was already sealed. Blinking his eyes, he felt like he was holding a warm furnace in his arms.

When he lifted the blanket, he saw it was our little friend Li Yan. Looking closer, he saw that Li Yan was also holding a little rabbit in his arms, nestled in Wen Le’s embrace.

When Wen Le woke up, Xiao Wen walked over and, with just one glance, was delighted. A big rabbit holding a little rabbit, and the little rabbit holding a tiny rabbit. Hey! What a nest!

“Uncle Mo’s dinner is ready. You slept so long, aren’t you going to sleep at night?” Xiao Wen said.

Wen Le carefully moved Li Yan aside and covered him with a blanket before getting up. “I don’t know how I fell asleep, and you didn’t wake me up,” Wen Le complained softly.

Xiao Wen pinched Wen Le’s slightly red face. “Uncle Mo said that kids need a lot of sleep to grow tall.”

Wen Le was speechless. Was Uncle Mo talking about Li Yan?

“Okay, let’s get up. Han Ya and I have been discussing all afternoon, and we’ll talk to everyone after dinner,” Xiao Wen said, pulling Wen Le up from his seat.

Wen Le felt like he was struck by lightning. How could he forget about Xiao Wen’s sudden idea after sleeping for a while?

“Young Master Wen, are you awake? Has Yan Yan woken up yet? I’ll go get him,” Huang Tao, who was about to serve dinner, saw Xiao Wen pulling Wen Le over and greeted him with a smile before getting up to call Li Yan.

Wen Le didn’t even notice that Huang Tao and Han Ya were calling him “Young Master Wen” along with Xiao Wen. He sat at the table with a wooden face.

Table?

Wen Le looked at the big round table in front of him, made of clay. He lowered his head and saw a clay stool beneath him. Looking up, he glanced around.

“When you were sleeping, I had Huang Yao make some clay walls and furniture. We have to stay here for a while, so we might as well make the cave comfortable to live in. ” Uncle Mo explained to Wen Le with a smile as he put the dishes on the clay table.

Uncle Mo was old and couldn’t help with things like shooting guns. He and Huang Yao took care of the daily chores to make sure the children could rest comfortably after a hard day’s work.

“Thank you, Uncle Mo~” Wen Le smiled and hugged Uncle Mo’s arm, getting up to help serve the food.

Xiao Wen and the others weren’t good at handling daily chores, and he himself had experienced fleeing before. As long as there was a place to live, he wouldn’t notice these details.

“What are you thanking me for, child?” Uncle Mo smiled and said.

Everyone had a comfortable meal, with fragrant rice, a large pot of mutton soup, braised carp, and stir-fried pork. They all sighed and said it was so much better with a woman around! It wasn’t that Uncle Mo’s cooking wasn’t good, but Huang Yao’s was just too delicious.

Huang Yao felt a little embarrassed as everyone looked at her. Before she got married, she went to M city with Huang Tao, who drove a taxi, and worked as a cook in a restaurant for more than two years before returning to the village to get married. She didn’t let her cooking skills fall by the wayside either.

After dinner, Wen Le brought out some fruits for everyone to enjoy. Seeing everyone’s faces glowing with redness after eating, he felt a sense of happiness in his heart.

After experiencing the hardships, he vowed not to let his brothers and sisters suffer from hunger, coldness, or grievance. Although he didn’t know what the future would bring, at least for now, he could do this.

“Everyone here is on the same team, even though Huang Tao and Huang Yao just joined, there’s no need to be restrained. This afternoon, Han Ya and I discussed for a long time and came up with an idea. We plan to listen to everyone’s opinions.”

Xiao Wen put down the fruit and saw everyone looking at him seriously before letting Han Ya explain the matter they had calculated.

Han Ya looked at everyone seriously.

“I don’t know what the future holds, but based on the current situation, the government probably doesn’t have enough troops to suppress these zombies in the short term. We’ve all seen the situation in M City. We didn’t go to those bustling places, but we still encountered many zombies on the way.”

“Conservatively estimating, almost half of humanity has been infected and turned into zombies this time. Z country has a large population, even if only half survive, we will still face over 600 million zombies.”

“Initially, when we hurriedly left, we were primarily concerned with saving ourselves so we could survive. But now it seems that we have too few people. As Wen Shao said before, although the number of people with special abilities is small, it’s not zero.”

“Even if the probability is small, it cannot resist our huge population base. Three of us out of the ten people in our group have special abilities, and there are likely more special abilities in other groups, even more than our group.”

“What’s the scariest thing in the apocalypse? It’s not the zombies, it’s human nature! Crime rates were already high during times of peace, and now the government is unable to control these disorderly people. Not everyone is lucky enough to have Young Master Wen’s space ability.”

“Those who fled hastily didn’t bring enough supplies for themselves to last for more than a few days. This sudden heavy snow has cut off their path to finding supplies. People who are hungry and freezing will do anything to survive.”

“Fortunately, we are now in these deep mountains and old forests, and no one will risk coming over to rob us in such heavy snow until the snow stops. But what about after the snow stops? Clothing is one thing, but once the food is gone, everyone’s situation will become more and more dangerous as each day passes.” Han Ya paused, waiting for everyone to digest these words before formally getting to the point.

“So, I talked to the boss and we plan to gradually expand our team until no one can threaten us. Now, I want to hear everyone’s opinions.”

Wen Le already knew about Xiao Wen’s idea, and even though his mind was still in chaos, he didn’t object.

While everyone was silently thinking, Huang Tao was the first to speak up.

Seeing everyone looking at him, he grinned.

“Boss Xiao, your ideas are good. Maybe I shouldn’t be saying this to me and Yao Yao, but if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t even know what our situation would be like right now. But I can’t help but say that while expanding our team can make us all safer, how can we guarantee that the people we bring in won’t have bad intentions? To be blunt, if you hadn’t saved our lives, my sister and I wouldn’t have blindly trusted you. Young Master Wen’s ability is too incredible, and without the life-saving relationship, I would definitely be tempted.”

After listening to Huang Tao’s words and seeing Huang Yao nodding while hugging Li Yan, everyone else smiled. If someone really had bad intentions, Huang Tao wouldn’t have been so straightforward in speaking. Except for Han Ya, everyone else in their hearts affirmed these two siblings. As for Han Ya, gaining his trust was not so easy.

“Huang Tao is right. It’s worth thinking about who we choose to join us.” After laughing, Zhou Quan brought the conversation back, “Han Ya, you and Boss have been discussing for an afternoon. Don’t tell me you guys don’t have a plan.”

Han Ya shrugged, “Alright, we do have a plan. After encountering that soldier surnamed Chen, Young Master Wen said that soldiers didn’t do well in the apocalypse, right? And with so many people turning into zombies, not all of our country’s leaders are still alive, right?!”

“This virus doesn’t discriminate, and if there’s a change in leadership, the political situation becomes unstable, and the first unlucky ones are those soldiers who only follow orders. They are the ones killing zombies, escorting leaders and their relatives, and risking their lives to protect them. So, Boss and I’s main target is those soldiers.”

Zhou Quan furrowed his brow and thought for a moment. “You also said that they only follow orders, so it’s not easy to win over those soldiers.”

After hearing his words, Han Ya shook his head. “First of all, we’re not going there with the purpose of winning them over. Now that communication is cut off and there’s no contact between various military districts and the government, we don’t want to be in opposition with the country, so there’s no need to try and win over those soldiers from large military bases.”
“Our goal is to protect ourselves and make our team stronger, so we need people. And the same goes for needing food, supplies, and assistance. We can focus on helping those soldiers along the way because their beliefs are more steadfast and they’re more likely to maintain their bottom line as human beings. The chances of them accepting our help and then turning around to bite us are much lower.”

“What about the others? Are we not going to help ordinary people who don’t have the ability?” Uncle Mo couldn’t bear to ask. Regular people don’t have the physical fitness of soldiers, making it even harder to survive in this world.

Han Ya looked at Uncle Mo and hesitated to dampen this elder’s spirits.

Mo Yan sighed as he looked at his father.

“Dad, we’re not saviors. If we have the ability, we can help, but we can’t easily merge those people with us. In this world, if you want to survive, you can only rely on yourself.”

Everyone understood Mo Yan’s words, but not everyone could be ruthless enough to act on them.

Wen Le frowned as he looked at Uncle Mo and Huang Yao, who were full of compassion on their faces, and then looked at the others who looked helpless. Among the ten people, perhaps only he was the one who could truly remain indifferent to the pleading of the survivors in despair.

“If you want to survive, put away your boring sympathy. Don’t act like you’re helpless and compassionate. In the future, it’s a world where people eat people. If you can’t be ruthless, don’t drag others down. Just follow the others and act together. If anyone suddenly takes matters into their own hands, don’t blame me for not making it clear in advance. Anyone who puts everyone in danger, I don’t care who they are, I’ll shoot them and be done with it!”

The people who were awakened by Wen Le’s words couldn’t help but look at him.

Huang Tao and Huang Yao had never seen Wen Le’s decisiveness and ruthlessness on the road when apocalypse just broke out. Now they were scared by Wen Le’s gloomy face. From their perspective, Wen Le had always been a gentle and obedient boy, who was easy to get angry, but they never thought he would be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

As for the people who were originally supposed to charge out of City A together, when they heard Wen Le’s words, even Han Ya sat obediently.

Uncle Mo sighed inwardly. At the critical moment, this kid Wen Le was probably even more ruthless than Xiao Wen and Han Ya.

Wen Le looked around and softened his face. “Xiao Wen and Han Ya’s ideas are here. You can propose different opinions and we can discuss them together.”

Yin Chengyang heard Wen Le’s tone soften and waved his big hand. “What’s there to discuss? We just need to recruit some capable guys and fight anyone we don’t like. It’s just like what we used to do!”

Huang Tao and Huang Yao had just been scared by Wen Le’s change, and now they were completely disheartened by Yin Chengyang’s words. They thought to themselves: Who are these people they’re following?

Wen Le heard Yin Chengyang’s loud voice and burst into tears instantly.

He finally realized why he always felt that he couldn’t stop Xiao Wen’s ideas!

Recruit guys? This is just these warlords preparing to go back to their old business!

Stop it? What’s the use? That’s their lifelong profession!

Worried? What’s there to worry about? They were a group of people who were against the government in the first place!!!

  1. Thanks for the chapter! Many of us live in a relatively safe place, but honest, good people still get “eaten raw”, because humans are the worst kind of deadly parasite to have ever happened to planet earth, selfish, greedy, never satisfied and willing to step on others.
