Seeing the small but well-equipped garden, complete with a pavilion and flowers, the scenery, although easily encompassed at a glance, was still quite pleasant. A group of young people were eating and chatting here, creating a fairly cheerful atmosphere.
One of the guys with a crew cut, holding his lunch box, shouted at Mu Jin, “Boss, why are we eating here today? Don’t we usually go to the rooftop? This garden is so close to the school, what if we run into a teacher? Can’t even smoke in peace here, unlike the rooftop!”
Mu Jin gave a playful pat on the back of the crew-cut guy’s head. Watching him unexpectedly spew out his food from the sudden pat, Mu Jin couldn’t help but chuckle.
Then he said with a snort, “Always smoking, what’s so great about it! Let me tell you, my nose has been sensitive lately, so all of you better keep your cigarettes away from me!”
The crew-cut guy pounded his chest vigorously, finally managing to swallow his food. Hearing Mu Jin’s words, he suddenly realized and nodded. It seemed that Mu Jin chose the small garden for lunch because the air here was indeed good, and the scenery was nice.
However, he continued with a gossip tone, “By the way, Boss, why didn’t you give face to the school flower today? Aren’t you afraid of upsetting Bai Lingling? Although she’s with the young master of the Gu family now, you know rich people, you never know when they might break up.”
Mu Jin was a bit puzzled at the remark and casually replied, “If she’s upset, let her be. What’s it to me?”
Unexpectedly, the crew-cut guy leaned over, winked mysteriously, and said, “Boss, haven’t you always liked Bai Lingling? Even though she’s with the young master of the Gu family now, you know rich people, they might break up one day.”
Mu Jin, looking at the crew-cut guy making suggestive gestures, felt goosebumps.
Rubbing his arm where there were no chicken skin bumps, he said with a sigh, “Where did you see that I like Bai Lingling? There’s nothing to like about her nagging. Don’t spread baseless rumors like this in the future.”
“Also, stop bothering Qi Changfeng without reason. I actually find that kid quite pleasing!”
“What? Boss, didn’t you say before that you found that kid quiet, acting all high and mighty, and you didn’t like him?” A chubby guy sitting on the right immediately exclaimed in surprise.
“When did I say I don’t like him?” Mu Jin searched the original host’s memories and indeed couldn’t find any instance where the original host said anything against Qi Changfeng.
The chubby guy, hearing Mu Jin’s words, paused for a moment. After careful consideration, it seemed that the boss had never said such things. He grinned with a simple smile and said, “I thought, Boss, you didn’t like him from your attitude towards him.”
The crew-cut guy quickly nodded in agreement, and with a sly expression, he said to Mu Jin, “So, Boss, you don’t dislike him! You even told us not to bother him. Boss, could it be you like him!”
“Hahaha, Boss, are you one of those childish guys who bully the one they like?”
“Who are you calling childish!” Mu Jin laughed and scolded. He punched the crew-cut guy’s shoulder while clarifying, “Alright, even if I like him, that’s enough. Remember, Qi Changfeng is my son-in-law, and if any of you dares to bully him, you’ll be against me!”
With Mu Jin’s words, the atmosphere instantly became lively, with the guys around making noise. However, since they were used to goofing off, they treated Mu Jin’s words as a joke.
In their hearts, Qi Changfeng, with his head always lowered and eyes covered, looking gloomy, wasn’t someone worth liking.
Little did they notice that not far away, someone was silently standing at the entrance of the garden, watching them.
At this moment, Qi Changfeng frowned, holding his lunchbox. As usual, he would come here for lunch, away from the noise and commotion of the classroom. He didn’t like the noisy atmosphere of the class, and this garden was always quiet. Although people occasionally passed by, it was still much better than the school surroundings.
Today was the same. Following his routine, he came here with his lunchbox, but he didn’t expect that today, of all days, he would find these troublemakers occupying the place.
Initially, Qi Changfeng planned to turn around and leave, but he unexpectedly overheard them loudly discussing topics related to himself. Moreover, that guy named Mu Jin, the boss who pretended to be pregnant, was telling everyone that he liked him and even declared him his son-in-law.
‘How is that possible?’ Qi Changfeng snorted and treated Mu Jin’s words as a joke. The other party had always disliked him, so how could it be possible for them to like each other?
However, Mu Jin’s behavior today was indeed strange, and he lowered his head, hiding the gloom in his eyes. He didn’t believe in genuine emotions in this world. Familial love, romantic love – none of it could be trusted.
The world itself was extremely boring, and living in it lacked any excitement. Sometimes Qi Changfeng even thought about destroying it, considering how dull it was.
Looking at the chaotic group of people opposite him, Qi Changfeng turned and left expressionlessly.
However, he didn’t notice someone in the pavilion, propping their chin, laughing and chatting with others. They glanced at the gradually receding figure with a meaningful smile on their lips.
In the afternoon, everyone went to class as usual. Mu Jin didn’t deliberately make his presence known to Qi Changfeng, but after school in the evening, he was the first to rush out of the classroom.
Qi Changfeng packed his things as usual and left the school. While walking home, he suddenly felt a tap on his back. Turning around, he saw Mu Jin’s round face breaking into a big smile.
Qi Changfeng hesitated for a moment, furrowed his brows slightly, then turned and continued walking, ignoring Mu Jin.
Seeing that Qi Changfeng ignored him, Mu Jin was not discouraged. He took a few quick steps to get in front of him and said with a smile, “Hey, why pretend you didn’t see me!”
Qi Changfeng, in a cold tone, asked, “Is there something you want from me?”
“What, can I only look for you if there’s something? After all, we’re classmates in the same class!” Mu Jin’s cat-like pupils rolled, and he winked playfully at Qi Changfeng.
Qi Changfeng fell silent for a while after hearing Mu Jin’s words. Considering Mu Jin’s past troubles with him, he couldn’t believe they were now considered friends by Mu Jin.
But for some reason, Mu Jin seemed different today. Qi Changfeng, facing the sunny and cute boy in front of him, pursed his lips and said, “We are not friends.”
Mu Jin scratched his head upon hearing this, acknowledging that Qi Changfeng was right. Seeing the attempt to get closer failed, he pretended to be tough and said, “Alright, I know we’re not friends. But at least we’re classmates, right? Shouldn’t classmates help each other in times of need!”
Qi Changfeng, still wary, asked, “What do you want from me, then?”
Upon hearing Qi Changfeng’s inquiry, Mu Jin perked up and said with a smiling face, “Well, you know, the mock exams are coming up. My grades have always been bad, and my aunt gave me an ultimatum this time – I must get a good grade.”
“I don’t want to disappoint her. So, could you help me with some extra classes?”
As expected, Qi Changfeng rejected without hesitation upon hearing Mu Jin’s request. After saying “No,” he turned and left.
‘So heartless!’ Mu Jin muttered in his heart and quickly caught up. Anyway, this kind of rejection didn’t hurt him, especially in front of his lover. Mu Jin’s thick-skinned nature was like a fortress.
He ran up to Qi Changfeng, opened his arms, and blocked his way, urgently saying, “Come on, Qi Changfeng, do you have any compassion for your classmates? Don’t reject so decisively.”
“Alright, alright, I won’t let you tutor me for free, okay? I’ll bring lunch for you every day. How about that?”
“No need.” Qi Changfeng’s tone was cold. He wanted to leave, but Mu Jin grabbed his arm.
Seeing that Qi Changfeng was about to leave, Mu Jin hung on him, acting like a spoiled child. “You can’t go! This is the first time I’ve asked someone for help. I must get a good grade, not to disappoint my aunt!”
Qi Changfeng couldn’t break free from Mu Jin’s entanglement, despite the other’s petite stature. He reluctantly stopped, and as Mu Jin continued to persuade him, Qi Changfeng, against his own intention, surprisingly nodded in agreement.
“That’s great! Qi Changfeng, you’re really a good person!” Mu Jin said with a big hug while smiling.
