Ghost Tamer 6
Tang Xi looked at the now-calm ghost girl.
“Meow?” Your name is Tian Rourou?
A hint of confusion appeared in Tian Rourou’s eyes. She reached out to hold her head, which was beginning to ache, and kept murmuring the name.
“Tian Rourou… Tian Rourou… Yes, that’s right, that’s my name…”
As she remembered her name, her body became more solid.
She didn’t look like a terrifying ghost at all—at first glance, she was just an ordinary girl in the prime of her youth.
Tang Xi stared in a daze, momentarily forgetting his fear. Curious, he stretched his neck forward, wanting to take a closer look.
Ji Fuqing noticed the little kitten’s fascination. He reached out his other hand to prevent Tang Xi from falling and casually explained, “Ghosts who remember their names become stronger.”
The more they recall about their past lives, the stronger vengeful ghosts become. The weak, wandering souls are those who have completely forgotten their pasts—if they don’t reincarnate, they eventually fade away on their own.
However, ghosts that remain due to deep resentment usually only remember that they have revenge to take. At most, they have a vague impression of their enemies, and their memories are hazy and fragmented.
Ji Fuqing gently stroked the little kitten and, in the calmest voice, said something terrifying: “If you eat her, you might remember your own name too.”
This was one of the main reasons he had brought his shiki here—he wanted the little shiki to eliminate her and absorb her ghostly energy to become stronger.
“Meow!” Tang Xi jumped back in fear, his clear, bright cat eyes filled with resistance.
He showed an obvious unwillingness to eat ghosts.
Ji Fuqing was a little puzzled and absentmindedly smoothed Tang Xi’s fur.
[1551, do you know my name?]
The original character’s memories were too blurry, and Tang Xi couldn’t access them. In the story, he was merely a catalyst for the meeting between the protagonists—there was never an opportunity for his name to be mentioned.
It was only now that he realized he didn’t even know his own original name.
[I can’t reveal that, dear.] 1551 responded.
The system was unreliable, so Tang Xi could only rely on himself.
He shook his head vigorously at Ji Fuqing, expressing his refusal to eat ghosts.
Ji Fuqing lifted Tang Xi’s little chin and said, “I won’t force you.”
Relieved, Tang Xi turned back to continue questioning Tian Rourou.
Recalling her name seemed to have unlocked something forbidden, and more memories flooded back to her.
Perhaps because the little kitten in Ji Fuqing’s arms seemed harmless, she wasn’t as tense even in front of the celestial master.
As she reminisced, a sweet smile appeared on her face. “I remember dancing, spinning in my beautiful ballet shoes… I was so happy because I was about to perform, to compete in a major competition…”
Her body grew even more solid. She even spun a few times, executing professional dance movements with clear, practiced skill.
Ji Fuqing’s voice was indifferent. “The more a ghost clings to their past, the harder it is for them to move on. That’s not a good thing.”
For ghosts, the sweeter the memories, the harder it is for their resentment to dissipate.
Sure enough, after recalling everything, Tian Rourou’s expression twisted into something terrifying.
She let out a hysterical scream. “I’m going to kill him! Kill him!”
Tang Xi shrank back.
“Meow meow meow?” Who? Who killed you?
But Tian Rourou could no longer hear him. Her limbs began to twist unnaturally, like a broken puppet violently smashed to the ground. Her movements became disjointed, and her face was once again overtaken by hatred.
Just then, there was a noise from downstairs.
[1551: Bai Qiaosheng has arrived.]
Tang Xi anxiously kneaded his paws. [Why is the original protagonist here at this time?]
1551: [He’s here for a livestream. He’s trying to transition into a horror streamer and heard about the hauntings here, so he came.]
Tang Xi: [Isn’t Ji Ziang keeping watch outside?]
1551: [Bai Qiaosheng sneaked in from another side to avoid the school guards and security cameras.]
Ji Ziang probably never expected a supernatural enthusiast to show up.
Tang Xi thought to himself—this guy was really fearless. If only he had half that courage, he wouldn’t be so cowardly.
But no matter what, if Bai Qiaosheng came upstairs now, he was definitely going to get hurt.
Tang Xi could only anxiously meow toward the outside, trying to get Ji Fuqing’s attention.
Ji Fuqing had noticed Bai Qiaosheng the moment he stepped inside. He hadn’t planned to interfere—until his little shiki started acting cute and pleading with him…
Ji Fuqing flicked his fingers, and in an instant, Tian Rourou was trapped within a confined space.
Even though she had lost her sanity, her instincts remained. Realizing that the person and the ghost before her were not to be trifled with, Tian Rourou desperately struggled to break free from the restraints, intent on devouring the young man who had dared to step into the school building.
Meanwhile, Bai Qiaosheng’s livestream had already begun. To avoid causing trouble for the school, he only started streaming after stepping into the building. Since it was pitch dark inside, there was no risk of anyone recognizing which school he was in.
His previous “cat rescue incident” had brought in a surge of followers, and many viewers had been waiting for his next stream. As soon as he went live, they immediately flooded the chat, asking for updates about the cat.
Bai Qiaosheng had no time to read the comments. He quickly gave a brief explanation before heading upstairs.
He sensed something unusual up there. A creeping sense of fear sent a thrill through him, making his heart pound violently.
Tang Xi let out a sigh of relief when he saw Tian Rourou completely restrained.
At the very least, she wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone.
1551: [Don’t relax just yet. If he keeps going up, he might find those two unconscious students.]
Tang Xi was shocked: [Wait, those students didn’t actually disappear?]
So Tian Rourou hadn’t killed anyone yet!
Upon learning this, the little kitten’s mood visibly improved, though he couldn’t quite explain why.
Realizing it had slipped up, 1551 promptly went silent.
“Meow meow meow!” Lend me some spiritual energy! I want to transform into a human!
Tang Xi waved his little paws at Ji Fuqing, standing up on his hind legs and making a pleading gesture.
When Ji Fuqing didn’t react, Tang Xi grew anxious and bit his own fluffy tail, spinning in a circle in frustration.
“Meow woo meow woo!” I need this much spirit energy!
The tiny kitten spread its paws wide, trying to demonstrate the amount.
Ji Fuqing watched the little shiki’s foolish antics for a while before finally extending a finger, touching a golden light to his forehead.
The light eagerly seeped into Tang Xi’s body, showing no sign of harming him at all.
Ji Fuqing’s eyes flashed with understanding.
The little shiki was far too comfortable in his presence. All of his previous doubts resurfaced.
His little shiki was different—completely unlike other vengeful ghosts. He wasn’t afraid of Ji Fuqing’s spiritual energy at all. In fact, he seemed to like it. Whenever Ji Fuqing’s energy surrounded him, it became gentle and obedient.
It was as if they were naturally meant for each other.
Yet, because of his preconceived notions, Ji Fuqing had assumed that the little shiki couldn’t handle his energy. He had avoided him, pushed him away, even frightened him on purpose.
Now, regret gnawed at him like thousands of tiny ants biting into his heart.
With the spiritual energy he received, Tang Xi transformed back into a human. However, before he could celebrate, he immediately sensed that something was wrong.
He reached up with his left hand, then reached behind with his right—only to feel soft, fluffy fur.
His cat ears twitched. His tail, now exposed thanks to his modern shorts, swayed behind him.
Tang Xi tried to grab his tail, but it dodged nimbly. Dumbfounded, he reached back again, but every time he was about to catch it, it would slip away.
Unlike the short, stubby tail of his cat form, his humanoid tail was slightly longer, resembling that of an adult cat.
“Why won’t it go away?” Tang Xi looked up at Ji Fuqing with a pitiful expression.
Ji Fuqing rubbed his fingers together, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
A little shiki being bullied by his own tail—so soft and helpless that Ji Fuqing had the overwhelming urge to scoop him up and squeeze him.
Tang Xi had no idea that, despite the man’s cold and serious exterior, Ji Fuqing was already fighting the urge to cuddle him to his very core.
Instead, Tang Xi reflected on himself, thinking that he must be too weak to fully return to his human form.
But they were wasting time. If Bai Qiaosheng actually found the two “missing” students, things would become difficult to explain.
He didn’t want innocent people getting dragged into this, so he ignored the extra features on his body and grabbed Ji Fuqing’s hand, pulling him along without hesitation.
Ji Fuqing’s gaze fell on their naturally intertwined hands. He didn’t say a word—just followed.
Behind them, Tian Rourou glared resentfully at their retreating figures.
Tang Xi’s cat ears twitched as he listened carefully to locate the students while also intimidating his system, 1551, into revealing their whereabouts.
Faced with the threat of being turned into a cat toy, 1551 begrudgingly provided the location.
Fortunately, the students had only been left on the floor below. Tang Xi arrived ahead of Bai Qiaosheng.
The place turned out to be a bathroom, damp and heavy with the scent of decay.
Worried that the little shiki might trip in the dark, Ji Fuqing released a small wisp of spiritual energy to illuminate their path.
He already knew about the two trapped students in this abandoned school building.
But he hadn’t expected the little shiki to find them too—and to rush over on his own.
Ji Fuqing’s gaze darkened with thought.
Tang Xi, unaware that he was being scrutinized, happily followed the golden light to the last stall in the men’s restroom.
Sure enough, just as 1551 had said, the two missing students were huddled inside.
Aside from a few scrapes and bruises, they seemed unharmed. Their wide eyes locked onto Tang Xi, and the screams they had been about to unleash got stuck in their throats as they took in the boy’s delicate, harmless-looking face.
“A-Are you a human or a ghost?” One of the students, who looked slightly better off, propped himself up and asked hesitantly.
Tang Xi smiled gently, revealing a few small, white teeth. “A ghost, of course.”
Then, right before his eyes, the two students—who had seemed somewhat alert just moments ago—clung to each other and fainted on the spot.
Tang Xi awkwardly rubbed his nose, then turned to Ji Fuqing with an innocent look, silently pleading for help.
In reality, the students had passed out due to hunger, thirst, and extreme stress rather than sheer fright. They had been trapped here for nearly a month, and it was a miracle they had survived without being eaten.
Tang Xi couldn’t figure it out, so he simply chalked it up to the fact that anyone daring enough to test their courage in a haunted building was clearly built different.
Ji Fuqing released two orbs of spiritual energy to lift the unconscious students.
Tang Xi directed him, “Take them outside and hand them over to the others first.”
He gave instructions so naturally that it felt as if their roles had completely reversed—the ghost acting like the master while the supposed “master” obediently followed orders.
As they made their way outside, fate played a trick on them. At the corner of the hallway, Bai Qiaosheng spotted them.
Ji Fuqing was walking ahead, and due to the angle, Bai Qiaosheng only managed to see Tang Xi.
The livestream audience saw him too, and the comment section instantly exploded.
Chat comments:
“AAAAAH, THERE’S REALLY A GHOST!!!”
“Come on, this is obviously just a handsome guy, okay?”
“That side profile is unreal! Why is he so pale? He’s practically glowing in the dark. If I saw a ghost this good-looking, I wouldn’t care—I’d be running straight at him!”
“If all ghosts looked this good, I’d have no problem turning off the lights before bed!”
Some skeptics even questioned whether Bai Qiaosheng had hired an actor.
Bai Qiaosheng glanced at the chat but wasn’t fazed. With fearless determination, he strode forward and called out to Tang Xi.
Tang Xi stiffened. He couldn’t risk Bai Qiaosheng seeing his cat ears—or worse, noticing that his loose-fitting shorts were slipping dangerously low.
With no other choice, he turned around to face him directly.
There was no escaping this.
Unfortunately, he completely forgot about one crucial detail—his cat ears were still out.
He watched as Bai Qiaosheng’s expression shifted into one of visible hesitation before he slowly asked:
“Uh… is this some kind of… special hobby?”
Author’s Note:
The cat tried to catch its own tail but failed.
Thus, we can conclude that a cat and its tail are two separate entities.
