Ghost Tamer 2
“Ancestor, I… I…” Ji Ziang’s throat was dry, and he couldn’t form a complete sentence.
A faint yet overwhelming pressure emanated from the man before him.
This was a top-tier Celestial Master—an existence far beyond the reach of mere mortals.
After only two seconds of struggle, he stepped aside, voluntarily giving up this trial.
Even so, not only would his clan not blame him, but they would even praise him.
He was already the most promising candidate to become the next head of the Ji family. The fact that the ancestor’s first action upon emerging from seclusion was to bring him along on this mission would only further solidify his position as the rightful successor.
Ji Fuqing stepped forward, paying no mind to what the younger generation behind him was thinking. He simply followed his instincts and ascended to the second floor of the haunted house.
Dressed in flowing white robes inscribed with golden runes, his very presence dispelled a large portion of the ghostly energy within the house. As he moved forward, the dim lights on the walls flickered to life, one after another.
At the same time, Bai Qiaosheng was walking downstairs, carrying a cat in his arms. Strangely, the little kitten in his embrace suddenly went completely still, curling up obediently in his hands.
Tang Xi wasn’t being obedient—he was terrified. The moment Ji Fuqing stepped into the house, an overwhelming spiritual pressure surged toward him, triggering a deep, instinctual fear. This was a natural enemy—a force that made his very being tremble.
And just like that, Bai Qiaosheng, still holding the cat, came face-to-face with Ji Fuqing.
Their eyes met—one was momentarily stunned, while the other remained as calm and unreadable as a still lake.
Ji Fuqing extended a hand. “Give me the little thing in your arms.”
A deep, primal fear tingled at Bai Qiaosheng’s senses, but as an ordinary person, he had no way of recognizing the rare and powerful materials woven into Ji Fuqing’s snow-white Taoist robes, nor the face that struck both reverence and fear into the hearts of exorcists.
Ji Fuqing had deliberately restrained his terrifying aura, concealing most of his immense power. To Bai Qiaosheng, he only seemed… different from normal people, but not in a way he could quite put his finger on.
So, undeterred, Bai Qiaosheng instinctively took two steps back, holding the kitten protectively. “No. May I ask what your relationship with it is?”
“Relationship?” Ji Fuqing’s dark eyes lingered on him as he slowly repeated the word.
Bai Qiaosheng let out a subtle sigh of relief. “So you’re not the cat’s owner. I’m sorry, but I can’t give it to you.”
Ji Fuqing didn’t actually seem old enough to require honorifics, but whenever Bai Qiaosheng faced him, he would unconsciously place himself in the position of a junior.
Ji Fuqing’s gaze fell upon the kitten, now partially obscured by Bai Qiaosheng’s hand. Perhaps out of fear, the tiny creature had wrapped its tail around Bai Qiaosheng’s wrist. Noticing Ji Fuqing’s attention, it instinctively shrank back, as if trying to avoid his line of sight.
Something about this unsettled Ji Fuqing. An inexplicable sense of loss of control crept in, irritating him.
Then, before Bai Qiaosheng could react, the elegant man simply flicked his hand, and the kitten—previously nestled in Bai Qiaosheng’s arms—was now in his grasp.
It seemed that Ji Fuqing wasn’t accustomed to handling small, furry creatures. His movements were a bit stiff, his expression as cold as ever. He held the kitten by the scruff of its neck, lifting and slightly shaking it.
Dangling in Ji Fuqing’s grip, Tang Xi looked like a plush toy—limp and motionless, his little ears and tail drooping in resignation.
Bai Qiaosheng, momentarily stunned by the supernatural display, quickly snapped back to reality. He couldn’t help but protest, “Don’t do that! You’ll make it uncomfortable!”
Ji Fuqing didn’t even spare him a glance. Completely ignoring Bai Qiaosheng’s presence, he turned and left with the kitten in tow.
Bai Qiaosheng frowned and hurried downstairs to chase after him. But the moment he stepped out of the haunted house, he realized—Ji Fuqing, along with the cat, had vanished.
Just seconds ago, he had been right in front of him.
That man… was definitely not ordinary.
Pressing a hand to his pounding heart, Bai Qiaosheng wasn’t nervous. He was exhilarated.
For the first time, he had witnessed something straight out of a supernatural tale.
Ji Ziang had just watched as the ancestor suddenly came out holding a cat, drew a formation on the spot, and teleported away—all in less than three seconds.
Normally, exorcists needed at least half an hour to draw a formation, and teleportation arrays had long been considered a lost art.
As expected of the ancestor, a true celestial master.
Teleportation arrays had to be drawn in advance at the destination point. Since the ancestor had never been here before, he couldn’t teleport in directly. Now that his business was done, he simply teleported back.
Ji Ziang suddenly realized he was just a tool.
Before he could even feel disappointed, he noticed that the young man who had chased after the ancestor looked… strange.
Almost like he was excited.
“Hey, what were you doing in there?” Ji Ziang called out to him.
He didn’t bother asking who this person was. The guy looked like an ordinary human, not someone in the exorcist industry, and definitely not someone who would know the ancestor.
Bai Qiaosheng looked at him and asked, “Do you know him? He just took… my cat.”
Ji Ziang didn’t notice his hesitation and scoffed. “Your cat?”
Though still young, Ji Ziang was highly skilled in exorcism. He had only caught a glimpse of what the ancestor was holding, but that was enough to see through the disguise—it was no ordinary cat, but a vengeful ghost in disguise.
Judging by its nature, it was an earthbound ghost, likely the very target he was supposed to exorcise this time.
This clueless human had no idea what was really going on. That seemingly harmless little thing was actually a vengeful ghost. If he and the ancestor had arrived just a bit later, the ghost would have gone on a killing spree.
Thinking this, Ji Ziang’s expression grew even more arrogant. A common trait among exorcists.
They all thought highly of themselves.
. . . . .
Tang Xi no longer cared about what was happening between the original protagonist gong and shou.
All he could think about was how his own life was hanging by a thread.
In the blink of an eye, he found himself in an unfamiliar place. Although the atmosphere wasn’t terrifying, the walls were covered with talismans that looked like they could easily obliterate him.
[Aren’t I supposed to be an earthbound ghost? Why was I so easily taken away?!]
1551 whispered: [The villain of this world is too powerful. He can already act without regard for the world’s laws.]
In the original storyline, this world’s villain even ended up committing suicide—because aside from himself, no one else was capable of killing him.
After releasing a thousand-year-old vengeful ghost and coldly watching as the world suffered in agony, he eventually grew bored after that ghost was exorcised by the original protagonist duo. Having lived for over a thousand years, he simply ended his own life out of sheer boredom.
So for Tang Xi to save him this time, he had to reignite the villain’s interest in the world and make him abandon his thoughts of death.
Tang Xi: [Great. I choose to switch worlds.]
Someone this evil couldn’t possibly be his poop scooper.
He began struggling furiously. Though being grabbed by the scruff didn’t hurt, he had been spoiled in his previous world and absolutely despised the feeling.
“Meow meow meow!”
The tiny kitten in his hands let out weak cries. It was clearly a vengeful ghost, yet its body was soft and covered in fluffy fur.
Ji Fuqing lifted the kitten to eye level. “What are you trying to do, vengeful ghost?”
There was genuine confusion in his gaze, not a feigned one.
Finally, this person acknowledged him. Tang Xi felt wronged.
“Meow meow meow.” I’m uncomfortable. Don’t hold me like this.
Even the most powerful exorcist couldn’t possibly understand the meows of a kitten.
Yet, strangely enough, Ji Fuqing understood exactly what this little ghost cat wanted.
Logic told him he should lock this noisy vengeful ghost inside a ghost-sealing cage. But his body disobeyed his mind—he awkwardly adjusted his grip, changing from grabbing to holding.
Despite the clumsy movement, Tang Xi actually felt a sense of familiarity.
It really was his poop scooper!
Now certain that the villain of this world was still his poop scooper, Tang Xi became bolder.
He immediately swatted Ji Fuqing’s wrist with his tiny tail in protest.
Ji Fuqing glanced down at the short, fluffy tail but silently allowed the little vengeful ghost’s impudent behavior.
“Do you want to become my shiki?”
Tang Xi lifted his head in shock. He hadn’t expected that question at all.
A shiki was a tamed ghost.
Since ancient times, taming ghosts carried the risk of backlash. After the decline of the exorcist clans that specialized in this practice decades ago, few exorcists dared to subdue vengeful ghosts for their own use.
Nowadays, even those who did tame ghosts only dared to choose weak, low-grudge ghosts—and they had to be released or exorcised within three years to prevent them from turning on their masters.
The kitten’s wide-eyed surprise was so obvious that Ji Fuqing couldn’t help but reach out and touch its bright, shining eyes.
In all his years, this was the first time he had ever interacted with such a fragile creature—no matter that its true nature was that of a vengeful ghost.
A ghost that could transform into a kitten to deceive people…
Ji Fuqing’s cool, emotionless voice rang out once again: “Become my shiki and be tamed by me.”
“Meow meow meow?” What if I refuse?
Tang Xi flicked his small ears and continued to slap his paw in protest, his tiny tail with a black ring twitching in displeasure.
Though, to be fair, his strength wasn’t even enough to count as a tickle.
Ji Fuqing immediately understood the little cat’s meaning.
“If you refuse, I’ll exorcise you right now.”
Tang Xi, startled, flattened his ears in grievance.
“Meow.” …Fine.
He looked utterly dejected.
For the first time, Ji Fuqing felt something akin to regret—but the emotion passed in an instant.
From birth, he had been indifferent, incapable of empathizing with others.
All those praises and titles people gave him were nothing more than empty coronations.
Only he knew the truth.
He was not like those exorcists who rid the world of vengeful ghosts for the sake of humanity. He wouldn’t even utter a slogan, let alone act on it.
He never saved anyone. Even if someone were to drop dead right before him, tormented by a malicious ghost, he wouldn’t spare them a second glance.
The only reason he exorcised so many vengeful ghosts was to quell his own inner restlessness. And since his power was immense, he could only seek out the strongest ghosts to challenge. Over time, the exorcists started revering him.
They called him “Celestial Master,” hoping to attain power like his.
Ji Fuqing snapped out of his thoughts, his gaze turning cold once more as he looked at the little kitten.
Ignoring the kitten’s will, he bit the tip of his tongue, then used his bloodied fingertip to draw a symbol on Tang Xi’s forehead.
A golden glow emerged from the kitten’s forehead—the manifestation of his spiritual energy, suppressing and taming the vengeful ghost.
Being tamed was painful for any ghost. Especially under someone as domineering as Ji Fuqing, whose spiritual energy was equally overwhelming—one misstep and it wouldn’t be taming but outright extermination.
Terrified, Tang Xi covered his face with his tiny paws. Yet, the anticipated pain never came.
Instead… it felt oddly pleasant.
The golden energy coiled around him intimately, as if seeking to merge with his very soul.
Ji Fuqing was just as surprised. He had already prepared to transfer the pain onto himself—he knew full well how oppressive his energy was.
Yet now, instead of sinking its fangs into its prey, his spiritual energy was behaving like a dog nuzzling a bone, rubbing itself affectionately against the little kitten and even attempting to seep into his body.
Tang Xi, overwhelmed by the sensation, wobbled unsteadily. Unable to bear it any longer, he stretched out his paw and pushed at the golden energy.
“Meow!” Go away!
The golden energy seized the moment, slipping straight into his mouth.
Caught completely off guard, Tang Xi swallowed it whole.

Being mean to the kitty now means spoiling him tenfold later!
