Chapter 72 – Apocalypse Arc: Zombie Siege: Rebirth in the Apocalypse—My Secret Lover (10)
Bai Yun’s heart surged with waves of shock as she cast a wary glance at Shao Licang.
No wonder he’s the male lead—he already noticed the impending apocalypse?!
“That’s right. The apocalypse will arrive in two months.”
Bai Yun only wanted to take Bai Tang far away from the male and female leads, to survive peacefully in the apocalypse. She had no intention of offending the male lead and becoming his enemy. Leaving him with a favorable impression wouldn’t be a bad thing either.
“I’m sure Mr. Shao has already received the news, so there’s no need for me to say more. Once Bai Tang recovers, I will take him away. We won’t be a burden to you.”
“There’s no need. Tangtang has never been a burden to me.”
Bai Yun was stunned as she watched him take out the jade pendant—the very one that was supposed to have been stolen by the female lead.
Shao Licang’s gaze was sharp as a blade. “Stay.”
After learning the secret of the jade pendant from Bai Yun, Shao Licang wasted no time preparing a vast stockpile of supplies.
He had wealth and power, so gathering resources was effortless. But what was truly surprising was that he somehow managed to acquire some… rather special items.
…
Inside the hospital room, Bai Tang’s thoughts had taken a drastic turn ever since that incident.
He refused to see Shao Licang, choosing instead to endure his inner torment in silence.
Sitting on the windowsill, he quietly watched as nurses wheeled patients around the hospital courtyard for fresh air.
“Tang Tang, are you bored? I have lots of movies and novels! Do you want to watch something?”
The system was deeply worried. It feared that Bai Tang, affected by the punishments of this world, might actually do something foolish. Whenever it had the chance, it did its best to guide him.
“I don’t want to watch anything.”
Only when Bai Tang looked at nature did he feel a moment of peace.
But the system wouldn’t give up so easily.
It started playing a nature documentary called Man and Nature.
At first, Bai Tang had little interest. But as the scenes unfolded, showcasing various animals in their natural habitats, he gradually became captivated.
So even his natural predators had moments of fear?
They looked so ugly when they ate. And when they slept… they looked so silly.
With less than half a month before the full outbreak of the apocalypse, reports of the undead (zombies) were increasing in various cities.
Perfectly normal people would suddenly go into a frenzy while walking down the street, biting anyone they could. Those captured were taken to hospitals, while more and more people began coming down with fever and flu-like symptoms.
Hospitals were soon overwhelmed, and doctors and nurses were on the verge of collapse from exhaustion.
Bai Tang’s wounds hadn’t fully healed yet. However, since hospitals would become one of the most dangerous zombie-infested areas after the apocalypse, Bai Yun decided to discharge him early.
Upon returning to Shao Licang’s villa, Bai Tang felt an intense sense of resistance. Yet, deep down, he couldn’t suppress his longing. His struggle was written all over his face—pain and hesitation interwoven.
“Tang Tang, is your wound hurting again?”
Bai Yun lifted Bai Tang’s shirt. Only after confirming that there was no fresh bleeding did she breathe a sigh of relief.
“Sister… Sister…” Bai Tang leaned against Bai Yun’s shoulder, tears streaming down his face.
He was afraid of seeing the look of disgust in Shao Licang’s eyes.
No matter how much Bai Tang struggled internally, they still returned to the villa.
…
Inside, Bai Tang saw Shao Licang sitting on the sofa, reviewing documents.
In truth, Shao Licang had been waiting in the living room for Bai Tang.
At the hospital, Bai Tang had refused to see him. Every time Shao Licang visited, he was turned away at the door, left only to hear the muffled sobs coming from inside.
All he could do was lean helplessly against the wall outside, waiting until the heartbreaking cries faded before daring to enter—only to find Bai Tang fast asleep, exhausted from crying.
Ah Cang really doesn’t want to see me.
He doesn’t even care anymore.
Seeing Shao Licang remain indifferent even after he entered, Bai Tang’s heart sank further.
He’s thinner. Tangtang has lost a lot of weight.
Shao Licang had the urge to rush forward and pull the boy into his arms. But remembering how Bai Tang had refused to see him before, he forced himself to hold back. Instead, he simply nodded at Bai Yun, signaling for them to go upstairs and rest.
Ah Cang must hate me that much…
He won’t even look at me.
Bai Tang buried his face in the soft pillow, silently weeping. Days of emotional turmoil had drained his energy, and before he knew it, he had fallen asleep.
…
When Shao Licang entered the room, there were still traces of dried tears on the boy’s face.
Gently, he pulled Bai Tang into his embrace.
Only then did the emptiness in his heart feel whole again.
As he breathed in Bai Tang’s familiar scent—a mix of milky sweetness and hospital disinfectant—Shao Licang let out a soft sigh.
He didn’t know how to care for someone struggling with depression.
But if it meant Bai Tang could be happy again, could smile again—he was willing to give everything.
Author’s Note:
I just can’t bring myself to be cruel in the end. I love Tangtang too much.
