Chapter 344 – Your Blood Is So Sweet – Self-Promotion (10)
Bai Tang and Trey arrived at the edge of the large pit, where Edith and the injured man were sitting weakly under a tree.
“Trey… Tang is a vampire… it’s dangerous…” Out of comradeship, Edith still used the last bit of her strength to warn him.
Trey dismounted and carefully helped Bai Tang down. “They’ve misunderstood you. I’ll go explain it to them.”
“Mm-hmm~” Bai Tang released him, letting Trey check on the female lead and the others.
The heroine’s condition wasn’t too bad. She was simply starving. Although she had been left hungry in the dungeon, that didn’t mean her luck was good.
The blood clan had added a special substance to her food that attracted small insects to gnaw on them.
Adam had never planned on letting Edith and Dorn go. Even if the deal succeeded, if they died on the way back, the Church would still pin the blame on Bai Tang—after all, he was the leader of the vampires.
A battle between both sides would be inevitable. When Bai Tang and the Church were both exhausted from the fight, Adam could step out to reap the rewards, obtain the Prince’s inheritance power, and become the supreme ruler of the blood clan.
Edith hadn’t eaten the food, so she avoided this disaster. Even Qiu’er couldn’t help but marvel at the strength of the heroine’s plot armor—always pulling someone else down as a shield at critical moments.
In the original plot, wasn’t the male supporting character exactly the heroine’s stepping stone?
The man lying on the ground, however, was in much worse condition. He had been injured by vampires, and after the intense “escape,” his wounds had only worsened. If he exerted himself any further, he’d be meeting God soon.
“Qiu’er, can I exchange for a life-saving pill? That person is about to die.” Even after turning into a vampire and inheriting the Prince’s power, Bai Tang still kept a pure and kind heart.
“Well, sure.” As long as Tang Tang asked, Qiu’er had no reason to refuse.
He resold the item he had previously bought for the heroine and bought a life-saving pill instead. “It can only keep her alive. It won’t guarantee his injuries heal. Whether he recovers well depends on his own luck.”
Qiu’er was stingy as always, refusing to spend extra points to buy a higher-grade Rebirth Pill. He counted his points every day, wishing he could split a single point into two.
“Saving someone is an act of merit. The more merit you accumulate, the more energy you’ll have when the world ends,” Xiao A could only comfort Qiu’er this way.
“If it weren’t for the energy, I wouldn’t bother saving them.” In this world, the Church opposed Tang Tang. Asking him to save people from the Church was the same as saving Tang Tang’s enemies. If Tang Tang hadn’t spoken up, he wouldn’t care how many paladins died.
Bai Tang held two small pills—one to restore Edith’s energy and one to keep the knight alive.
Edith was prejudiced against vampires and stubbornly refused to take the medicine.
The injured man hesitated for a moment. He glanced at Trey; he still trusted him. At worst, he could just repay Trey with his life later. If Trey hadn’t saved him three years ago, he would’ve died long ago.
Anything produced by the system was guaranteed to be top quality.
After swallowing the pill, a warm current spread through the man’s body, flowing everywhere. Wherever it passed, his pain eased, and he felt much more comfortable. It even seemed like his strength was returning.
“Edith, eat it. It will only do you good, not harm,” Trey said patiently.
Edith didn’t have the strength to speak. She turned her eyes away, showing her resistance toward Bai Tang.
Something given by a vampire—how could that possibly be good?
“Just eat it. It’s to restore your energy. Without it, you won’t even have the strength to return to the Church.” Bai Tang thought that mentioning the Church would persuade Edith, who was devoted to it, to take the pill.
He didn’t realize that although his words hit the mark, they also heightened Edith’s wariness.
If he understood her habits so clearly… wasn’t he up to something?
The screams from inside the pit gradually died down as the bugs crawled away.
Bai Tang quickly led the horse farther from the pit to prevent it from being injured by mistake.
Trey’s patience had reached its limit, and Tang Tang was terrified of insects—he didn’t have time to argue with Edith here.
This was probably the first time Trey had ever treated a woman roughly.
He pinched Edith’s cheeks, forcing her mouth open, tossed the pill inside, and then slapped her on the back. Caught off guard, Edith reflexively swallowed the small pill.
The sudden sensation of swallowing something unexpectedly felt awful. Edith bent over to the side and retched, trying to vomit the pill back out.
But it was useless—the small pill had already dissolved the moment it entered her stomach.
A warm current spread through her body just the same, restoring her strength bit by bit as the weakness faded.
Edith looked at Bai Tang with a complicated expression. He really was helping them.
“Thank you,” Edith said. She wasn’t someone who couldn’t tell right from wrong; since he saved her, saying thanks wasn’t too much.
Bai Tang waved his hand and smiled sweetly. “You should head back. Adam and his subordinates won’t catch up for a while, but after more time passes, it’s hard to say. Hurry and go.”
Bai Tang handed the reins to Edith.
Edith turned to Trey. “What about you? Are you coming back with us?”
“I’ll return tomorrow,” Trey replied. “You go first. I need to stay behind and clean things up.”
Edith suddenly remembered that there were other knights in the forest—so it made sense for Trey to stay.
“Alright. Then I’ll see you at the Church tomorrow.” Edith suddenly gave Trey a hug. Two seconds later, she released him, mounted her horse, and the knight beside her escorted her back to the Church.
“Tang Tang! The male lead actually hugged the female lead! If you don’t discipline him for three days, he’ll try to pull the roof off! He hugged her right in front of you and didn’t refuse—doesn’t that mean he has feelings for her? Next time, what—he’s going to propose to her in front of you?!” Qiu’er already disliked people from the Church, and now he exaggerated wildly, twisting the situation further.
Xiao A held his forehead. “Qiu’er, don’t make trouble. Come on, let’s go get a late-night snack…”
Qiu’er was dragged off once again.
Bai Tang and Trey were left standing there, facing each other in silence, Bai Tang’s eyes misted with tears.
“So you don’t want to be with me anymore? Then just go and be with Edith.”
Knowing in his heart that the hero and heroine were innocent was one thing, but feeling that sour ache after seeing it was another.
Bai Tang turned and ran, and Trey chased after him from behind.
Soon after entering the forest, Bai Tang transformed into a little squirrel and leapt onto a tall tree. From above, he watched Trey chase after him, circling helplessly below after losing his trail.
“Tang Tang, I didn’t get together with Edith. You have to believe me—I’m innocent. Please come out…”
“Tang Tang, I swear to God, the one I love most is you.”
“From the very first moment I saw you, I knew it had to be you…”
Trey could sense that Bai Tang was nearby—his presence was still there. He was just hiding.
The little squirrel watched his lover pouring his heart out below. His anger came fast, but it faded just as quickly.
He aimed at his target and jumped straight into Trey’s arms.
There was a rustling sound from above. Trey instinctively looked up, and a dark shape dropped from the sky. He fumbled to catch the tiny creature that had leapt down. When he looked closely, it was a fluffy little squirrel.
“Squeak squeak squeak—” Since you’re so sincere, I’ll forgive you~
Trey felt a tug in his heart. He subconsciously called, “Tang Tang,” and the little squirrel answered, confirming it.
“It really is Tang Tang.” Trey tucked the squirrel into his coat, close to his chest. The soft fur brushing against his skin created a strange, delicate sensation, but Trey felt unusually content. One hand supported the small squirrel as he started walking toward the castle.
“Don’t do that again. You scared me to death. I thought you didn’t want me anymore.”
“I belong to you. Tomorrow I’ll resign from my position as Paladin Commander at the church. If you don’t want me, I’ll be left wandering the streets.”
“Tang Tang, are you hungry? Do you want some blood? Bite wherever you want—don’t starve yourself.”
“If Tang Tang doesn’t want me anymore, what will you do when you get hungry? Other people’s blood isn’t clean. Commoners only worry about filling their stomachs—they eat all sorts of things, so their blood isn’t pure. But I’m different. I’ve grown up eating and drinking only the cleanest things in the church. I’m spotless inside and out. Tang Tang can drink from me anytime you want…”
All the way, Trey rambled nonstop to the little squirrel. The more he talked, the more reasonable he found himself, and the harder he worked to “sell” himself.
“I’ve trained for years. My body’s strong, durable, and I don’t get sick easily—perfect for being emergency rations. And with winter coming, if Tangtang gets cold, I can even warm your bed…”
Trey’s imagination ran wild, covering everything from daily necessities to physical and emotional needs.
Suddenly, he stopped walking. As if thinking of something, he added, “Tang Tang can do anything he wants to me. If you tell me to go east, I’ll never go west. If you say down, I’ll never go up.”
Hearing the implication in Trey’s words, the little squirrel blushed silently.
“Squeak squeak squeak—” His man was getting more and more shameless. How could he say things like that out in the open?!
Soon, they reached the castle grounds. The little squirrel jumped out of Trey’s arms and transformed back into human form.
Vampires could only turn into bats—he definitely couldn’t let Butler Norman see him as a squirrel.
Bai Tang completely forgot that transforming back meant he was completely naked. The soft white moonlight fell across the boy’s snowy back, as if covering him in an enticing veil.
The sight hit Trey so hard that something warm trickled from his nose.
The boy’s delicate little nose twitched—he smelled like pine nuts.
Bai Tang turned around, only to see his lover hurriedly wiping his face, a faint red stain showing through his sleeve.
“Are you hurt? Let me see—” Bai Tang grabbed Trey’s hand anxiously, trying to check.
Instead, Trey loosened his cloak and wrapped it around the beautiful boy.
Bai Tang was pulled forward and stumbled into Trey’s chest.
“Tang Tang, I love you.”
The sudden confession made Bai Tang blush all over again.
Pink bubbles practically floated in the air. Xiao A closed the door of the little white room, preventing Qiu’er from running out to cause trouble.
The boy rose on his toes, shy yet bold, and pressed a quick kiss to Trey’s lips.
“I do too~”
The little squirrel shyly buried himself into his lover’s chest and whispered softly, “I love you too~”
