Chapter 24 – Campus Arc: A Glamorous Romance – The Cinderella Sweetheart’s Endless Love (24)
Hudson surveyed the surroundings. This area seemed to simulate the depths of a dense forest—the trees grew even thicker, and the undergrowth beneath their feet was lush and untrodden, as if few had passed through.
However, since this was a man-made haunted house, there shouldn’t be only one exit. The staff must have hidden emergency exits somewhere.
After a long moment, Bai Tang’s complexion gradually returned to normal.
“Hudson, I can’t walk anymore,” Bai Tang admitted, a little embarrassed. After the series of scares, he just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. But the mere thought of those terrifying things—like experiencing a horror movie in real life—made his legs go weak.
Hudson crouched down. “Come on, Tang Tang. Get on.”
Bai Tang immediately climbed onto Hudson’s broad back, wrapping his arms tightly around his neck and nestling his head against his shoulder. His nose was filled with Hudson’s unique scent, a mix of warm pheromones.
With Hudson here, he felt safe.
“Tang Tang! You went to a haunted house without inviting me?” The system, bored of being stuck in its “dark room,” had suddenly popped back out.
“Qiu’er, do you know where the exit is?” Bai Tang asked.
“Of course! I am an all-knowing system, after all. Why not play a little longer?” The system was eager to experience the haunted house for itself.
“No way.” Bai Tang rejected the idea without hesitation and instead had the system retrieve the memory of what had just happened.
“Holy crap!!!”
The system screamed in horror upon seeing the ghost woman’s face. Then, in a rare serious tone, it said, “Follow my instructions. Activating map mode.”
With the system’s guidance, Bai Tang clung to Hudson’s back and began directing him toward the exit.
Hudson didn’t question why Bai Tang wanted to take that particular path or how he knew there was a hidden exit there. He simply followed the system’s directions. Soon enough, they arrived at a staff-only passage and successfully exited the haunted house.
Seeing the sunlight again, especially after the eerie darkness inside, felt like stepping out of hell and back into the human world. Bai Tang was so relieved he almost wanted to cry.
After rolling through the grass earlier, Bai Tang was covered in dust from head to toe. He looked like he had just crawled out of a coal pile.
“Hudson, let me down,” Bai Tang said, reluctantly rubbing his face against the man’s back.
Hudson’s straight posture bent slightly as he adjusted his grip on Bai Tang’s legs. “The clothing store is far. I’ll take you there,” he said, making no move to put him down. Instead, he strode forward with his long legs.
Hudson’s striking good looks, combined with the sight of the delicate little Bai Tang on his back, made for an eye-catching duo. Even though Bai Tang looked a little worse for wear, their presence still radiated charm.
What they didn’t know was that someone had been secretly watching them the whole time. Click, click. A camera captured their every move.
When they returned to the haunted house entrance to check with the staff, they were informed that Tian Lingxue and Owen had yet to come out.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the fiery clouds bathed the land in a golden-red glow. The cheerful amusement park music played on a loop, repeating countless times before Owen and Tian Lingxue finally emerged, leaning against each other as they followed the staff out.
“Lingxue, Owen…” Bai Tang waved at them, but neither had the strength to respond.
The two of them collapsed onto a bench, staring blankly into the distance.
“Lingxue, are you guys okay?” Bai Tang, who had spent the entire afternoon resting, was back to his usual lively self—healthy and energetic as ever.
Tian Lingxue shook her head. Seeing Bai Tang looking so refreshed, with Hudson following behind him indulgently, she found herself thinking that Hudson wasn’t so bad after all. At least he hadn’t abandoned Bai Tang.
Then she glanced at Owen, who was in the same sorry state as she was.
This guy… wasn’t so bad either.
