Chapter 146 – Love in a Fallen City: You Are My Eternal, Unfading Starlight – Honeymoon (09)
Le Mengqi finished her appearance on the television program and returned to the merfolk base under the escort of Lieutenant General Sade. In the parking lot, she spotted Turs’ car.
“Admiral Walker is here too? I thought he had already chosen a mermaid,” Lieutenant General Sade said with a hint of confusion.
Le Mengqi, however, looked rather excited. Her submitted requests had been repeatedly rejected, and she couldn’t just barge into the military to find someone. Now that Turs Walker had come to her doorstep, she wondered if he still remembered her.
She cast a look of disdain at Lieutenant General Sade beside her. A rough and unkempt man like him was definitely not her type. Her ideal partner was someone like Turs Walker—the more she got to know him, the more deeply she became infatuated. A hero of the Interstellar Federation, young, talented, handsome, and wealthy. Though the Walker family kept a low profile, it was one of the oldest noble families in the Federation.
When they returned to the merfolk base, the staff quickly informed them of Bai Tang and Turs’ location.
Lieutenant General Sade found it inconvenient to accompany Le Mengqi into the merfolk public activity area, so he went to greet Turs instead.
Le Mengqi entered the public activity area and was immediately greeted by the sight of Bai Tang laughing and chatting happily with the other merfolk.
That innocent smile and carefree laughter were like a slap in the face. Le Mengqi had worked so hard to gain the favor of Lieutenant General Sade and had only become famous through her own talent, while Bai Tang had effortlessly won over Turs Walker.
Soon, she might even become the young madam of the Walker family. How could Le Mengqi not feel jealous?
“Looks like the details really do matter~,” one mermaid sighed.
“Yeah, a protector who truly loves you will always consider what’s best for a mermaid,” Bai Tang added.
“I want to find a protector as good as Admiral Walker in the future too!”
“Me too.”
“+1, +1…”
After Bai Tang’s little class, the merfolk all wore dreamy expressions, truly envious that he had met such a wonderful protector.
“Hi, what’s everyone chatting about?” Le Mengqi approached with a harmless-looking smile.
“Oh, it’s Mengqi…”
“I just saw you on TV a moment ago.”
“Your singing was beautiful, Mengqi…”
Le Mengqi’s career path was unique among the merfolk—none of them had ever debuted as a singer—so they were curious about her experiences and quickly gathered around her.
Le Mengqi thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention. She glanced smugly at Bai Tang. But to her surprise, he completely ignored her and instead ran excitedly toward the door.
“Turs~”
The little mermaid threw himself into the admiral’s arms, his smile curving his eyes into happy crescents.
“We’re going to register our marriage,” Turs said, catching the mermaid in his arms and placing a kiss on the corner of his lips.
Mr. Eddie smiled from the side. Lieutenant General Sade, tall and loud-voiced, boomed, “Congratulations to Admiral Walker for winning the heart of a mermaid!”
They’re getting married?!
Le Mengqi’s expression darkened.
“You can have that too,” Turs said kindly. He was in a good mood, and his tone toward his subordinates had softened noticeably—almost enough to move Lieutenant General Sade to tears.
He had received his superior’s blessing—a blessing from someone who had just married a mermaid.
Sade turned his gaze toward Le Mengqi, standing among the mermaids, imagining the day she might say yes to him.
Mr. Eddie took in the entire scene. The smile faded from his face, leaving behind only a cold indifference in his eyes. He didn’t mean to be discriminatory, but the Federation’s top talents really shouldn’t be wasted like this…
Mr. Eddie instructed the mermaids to return to their rooms. In the meantime, he casually asked them a few questions to gauge Bai Tang’s attitude and domestic life.
Watching the dreamy looks on the mermaids’ faces, Mr. Eddie’s mouth twitched, and he cast a strangely sympathetic glance at Turs—Admiral Walker had zero authority at home.
Who would have thought that Turs Walker, the man hailed as the Zerg-slayer, would be so meek at home? Tragic. Truly, appearances are deceiving. At least now, he no longer worried that Bai Tang might suffer after marriage.
With that mysterious emotion lingering in the air, Mr. Eddie led Turs and Bai Tang to complete the paperwork.
Once both of them had pressed their fingerprints, Bai Tang’s household registration was officially transferred under Turs Walker’s name.
Looking at Admiral Walker, who was endlessly indulgent with Bai Tang, Mr. Eddie patted him on the shoulder and said earnestly, “Admiral, you don’t always have to give in to everything your mermaid wants.”
Bai Tang assumed Mr. Eddie was referring to how curious merfolk often liked to try strange and dangerous things. He snuggled up in the arms of his newly minted husband and said sweetly, “Mr. Eddie, I’m really well-behaved~”
His voice was soft, sweet, and heart-melting.
Turs echoed affectionately, “Yes, Tang Tang is the best.”
One willing to give, the other eager to take—what could he even say?
Mr. Eddie let out a long sigh and saw them out.
As he turned back, he saw that Lieutenant General Sade was also preparing to leave.
“Lieutenant General Sade, might I borrow a bit of your time?” he asked.
As the manager of the merfolk base, Sade naturally obliged. “Of course.”
…
Back at home, the newlyweds began planning their honeymoon. Bai Tang held a map of the Interstellar Federation and traced out a route.
“We’ll go to Litrely City to watch the sunrise, then to the lavender fields. We’ll pass through the Betty Forest to have some fun, and then head to Yicheng to hunt bugs.”
Well, the last part was something the system insisted Bai Tang add. Yicheng was near the edge of the Federation—vast wilderness where you could often spot insect holes dotting the yellow earth.
This addition came from the system’s obsession with a delicacy it had tasted only once and never again. It hadn’t gotten enough the first time.
“Alright, we’ll do whatever Tangtang wants,” Turs said indulgently, gazing at him with affection. He didn’t care where they went, as long as his little mermaid was happy.
Both Turs and Bai Tang had rather special identities, so to leave the Federation’s capital, they needed to submit a report to their superiors.
The next day, Turs brought Bai Tang back to the military headquarters and handed in the request. If all went well, the approval would come through in two days, and then they could set off together.
News of Turs’ leave request had already made its way around the military, and many looked on with envy.
How nice—not only had he married a mermaid, but he was also going on a honeymoon with one.
As they walked down the corridor, everyone they passed stopped to offer congratulations. To each person who came up to them, Bai Tang cheerfully handed out wedding candies.
Receiving blessings from the little mermaid left the single men overjoyed.
Wow—being liked by a mermaid must mean their type wasn’t entirely hopeless, right? It suddenly felt like the dream of finding a mermaid partner wasn’t so far away after all.
Lieutenant General Sade looked gloomy, still brooding over what Mr. Eddie had said to him the day before.
Was Le Mengqi just using him?
Could a mermaid really be that calculating?
Finally, when Bai Tang was almost out of wedding candies, Sade managed a smile and offered his congratulations.
“Congratulations to you both…”
“Thank you~” Bai Tang replied joyfully.
Just as Lieutenant General Sade was about to ask about Le Mengqi, Bai Tang stuffed a handful of candy into his hands.
“Um… Bai Tang, are you close with Le Mengqi?” Sade thought it over and decided it was best to ask someone from the same mermaid base to confirm things.
Hearing the female lead’s name, Bai Tang tilted his head playfully, not quite sure why Sade was asking but answered honestly: “Not really.”
The system, however, knew a bit more and was quite happy to cause a little trouble for anyone who had targeted Tang Tang.
“Tang Tang, that guy’s a supporting male character being used by the female lead. Do you want to help him out? Otherwise, he’s really quite pitiful,” the system prompted.
Bai Tang thought it over. If Turs had fought alongside this man multiple times, it meant Turs trusted him—and that made him a friend.
“Le Mengqi often tries to come see Turs. I don’t like her, so we’re not close.” Bai Tang spoke honestly. Mentioning that Le Mengqi had harassed Turs might give Sade a wake-up call.
“Your eye for people still needs some work,” Turs said as he patted Aida Sade on the shoulder—indirectly confirming that what Bai Tang had said was true.
Even though multiple people had now told him the same thing, Lieutenant General Sade still found it hard to believe. He wanted to confirm it for himself.
“Thanks.”
He walked away with a handful of wedding candy, a thoughtful expression on his face.
“Is Lieutenant General Sade going to be okay?” Bai Tang looked up and asked Turs.
Turs ruffled Bai Tang’s hair. “He’ll be fine. You’ve got to trust in Aida’s abilities.”
Someone who had made it to the rank of lieutenant general wasn’t a fool. Beyond strong combat skills, leadership and strategic insight were essential. Aida Sade had set up a small test for Le Mengqi—one that wouldn’t harm any mermaids, but would reveal her character. If she passed, Aida Sade planned to apologize to her personally.
But all of that had nothing to do with Bai Tang and Turs.
Their honeymoon leave was quickly approved.
To ensure the safety of mermaids, leaving the Federation’s capital required Bai Tang to wear a tracking device.
Bai Tang tugged at the bracelet strapped to his wrist. “It’s too tight. Uncomfortable.”
Turs loosened the strap for him. “It can’t be taken off—safety first.”
“Alright…” The little mermaid pouted, clearly not thrilled.
“Okay, don’t be upset. Is there anything else we need to pack? We’re about to leave.”
“All ready~”
The mention of a trip got an immediate, cheerful response from Bai Tang.
Actually, the bracelet wasn’t much of a problem. If he really disliked being monitored, he could just ask the system to activate a shielding function—then no one would be able to track him.
Litreli City was a mountain-and-water city located on another planet. It had been incorporated into the Interstellar Federation’s map fifty years ago. In a high-tech federation, Litreli City stood out as the place that preserved the most of its original natural environment. There were no vehicles speeding by in a blur, no skyscrapers towering into the clouds.
Instead, it was full of green mountains and clear waters. Some roads weren’t even accessible by vehicle—you had to walk.
Attempts had been made to modernize the city, but due to its varied terrain, such development would risk underground collapses. So the plans were eventually abandoned.
In recent years, Litreli City had embraced tourism and become a prime destination for nature-based travel. For those wanting to experience life from the Gregorian calendar era, it was the top choice.
That was exactly why Bai Tang had chosen to come here. Though modern life was convenient, he still preferred the charm of the old, natural world.
They arrived in Litreli City just in time for dinner. The dark blue sky and the glowing red lanterns lining the streets created a stunning contrast. People bustled about, greeting each other even though they were strangers.
To Turs—so used to the cold, towering buildings of the Interstellar Federation—the scene felt refreshingly different. This place had its own unique charm.
