FSCQT – Chapter 256

Chapter 256 – Professor, Please Don’t Raise Zombies (46)

As expected, things unfolded just as Yan Luo had predicted. The Level 3 and 4 zombies on the outskirts had indeed been stalled, but the mercenary groups suffered heavy casualties. Many had already seen through Beixuan Base’s intentions, yet they were now stuck in a quagmire, powerless to change their fate.

Yan Che was not a good person. He had no interest in meddling in others’ affairs. With his little girl in tow, he bypassed the people struggling in dire straits and headed straight for the research base’s interior.

The atmosphere inside was strange, and the architectural style was even stranger—like a labyrinth, with countless branching paths leading in different directions.

The interior was a sterile research facility, immaculately white, as if the dust of the apocalypse had never touched this place.

It was unsettling.

Yan Luo couldn’t help but furrow her brows.

Yan Che, who had been leisurely following behind her, his gaze fixed on her the entire time, noticed her discomfort. His casual, unhurried steps became slightly more deliberate as he closed the distance between them.

His voice carried a lazy indulgence.

“What’s wrong?”

“This place gives me a really bad feeling.” Yan Luo shuddered slightly, pursing her lips as she looked at the increasingly thick black fog around them.

She really didn’t want to keep going.

It was… kind of scary. (:з」∠)

She was obviously chickening out again.

Yan Che sighed helplessly. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and scooped her up into his arms, cradling her horizontally. His long legs picked up the pace, yet even with a whole person in his embrace, he moved with effortless ease.

After all, he had been matching Yan Luo’s pace earlier, and she had been stubbornly walking despite her reluctance, not even bothering to use a bit of her powers. It was quite a grievance for his long legs.

Lowering his gaze slightly, he glanced at the little one in his arms.

She seemed to still be processing what had just happened, her wide eyes blinking in confusion, looking utterly bewildered.

Her fingers instinctively clutched at his clothes, exuding an air of delicate vulnerability that made Yan Che chuckle.

He deliberately teased, “Weren’t you hinting that you wanted me to carry you?”

As he spoke, he shifted her slightly in his arms and took the opportunity to run his hand mischievously along her waist.

It tickled her.

Yan Luo flinched, gripping his clothes tighter as she dodged away. “Who was hinting at that?”

—And aren’t you just blatantly taking advantage of me?

Feeling that hand on her waist growing more restless, Yan Luo was unimpressed.

“Didn’t you say you felt uncomfortable?” Yan Che blinked innocently, his voice carrying a hint of grievance. Seeing that she was about to swat him, he finally stopped teasing, the corners of his lips curving into a smile. “Alright, alright, I admit it, I just wanted to hold you. Is that okay? Hmm?”

Yan Luo huffed, burying her face against his chest as she warily observed their surroundings, choosing not to respond.

Just then, a deafening crash erupted ahead. The ground trembled beneath them.

Yan Che’s eyes darkened slightly, while Yan Luo’s gaze snapped forward. Someone had already reached the central area ahead of them, but it seemed they had encountered… something.

Yan Che’s smile disappeared. His speed increased sharply as he charged forward.

At this moment, in Cheng Xiaoxiao’s First Team, three members had already fallen, while several others lay gravely injured. She panted heavily, sweat mixed with dirt and blood dripping from her forehead, her eyes filled with a fierce determination that made for a striking sight.

Ahead of them stood a woman, or rather, something that was no longer human.

Dressed in a flowing white gown, she hovered in mid-air, her eyes glowing faintly red.

A suffocating sense of oppression filled the air.
