Chapter 248 – Professor, Please Don’t Raise Zombies (38)
“You’re asking the obvious.” Listening to the other party’s tone, Yan Che slightly lowered his eyes as he casually uttered these four words.
An eye for an eye.
And this person’s attitude was far more arrogant than theirs.
Yan Che didn’t think of himself as particularly amazing; he simply didn’t regard anyone else as significant.
The person seated paused for a moment, sneering, then looked up at Yan Che. “Don’t think you’re impressive just because you can handle a few zombies outside. We have many powerful ability users in the Beiuan Base. I suggest you behave yourself and think clearly about what you should and shouldn’t do.”
As he spoke, the stamp, which was supposed to be applied to the ‘mercenary’ section, was now about to fall onto the ‘foreigner’ section.
Though these seemed like just two titles, the difference was substantial. ‘Mercenary’ could be considered part of the Bei Xuan Base and would receive favorable treatment during missions, with no restrictions on leaving the base.
On the other hand, ‘foreigner’ had little to no connection with the Beixuan Base. They wouldn’t receive any benefits, and after a certain period, they’d be forced to leave.
Generally speaking, no matter how powerful an ability user was, they couldn’t survive alone outside of a large organization.
If these two ability users truly had some skill, the higher-ups would naturally keep them around, but for now, they needed to be taught a lesson.
“Go over there and use all your abilities to test the strength of your powers against that stone.” With that, the person handed them two forms, sneering as he waited for the two to admit their mistake.
But Yan Che casually took the form, giving a mocking smile, as if he were satisfied with the decision.
This made the people around them glance up at the pair.
Quite bold.
Their eyes scanned the two faces before focusing on Yan Luo.
Yan Luo looked slightly younger but delicate and charming, with a mischievous grin on her face, a look rarely seen before the apocalypse.
She lightly licked her lips.
Yan Che already had a smile in his eyes as he lowered them, pulling the little girl into his arms. His voice became cold as he looked at the stone used to measure ability levels. The stone was made of some unknown material, full of pits and marks left by many ability users’ attacks.
“Ability strength?” Yan Che smiled, his eyes narrowing. He raised his hand, and a thin vine appeared from the ground, lightly tapping the stone under the gaze of everyone present.
Watching the entire process of the two people digging their own grave, Yan Luo yawned in boredom and tugged at Yan Che’s sleeve. “Let’s go, I’m hungry.”
How is she hungry again?
The tug brought all of Yan Che’s attention back. Looking at the little girl in his arms, he remembered how not long ago she had devoured the pile of crystal cores he brought back. How much time had passed? But seeing the serious look in her eyes, Yan Che couldn’t say anything and couldn’t help but smile. He pulled the little girl closer and walked inside, muttering, “Who else but me could afford to take care of you?”
This earned him a dissatisfied glare from the little girl.
Looking at the huge stone that had shown no reaction, especially with that skinny vine, the two almost burst into laughter. They thought they were dealing with some really powerful figures, being so arrogant.
The standing man’s gaze landed back on Yan Luo, and he sneered again, “Wait, we still don’t know if this little girl has any abilities.”
