Chapter 9 – Mr. Fu’s sweetheart
Ruan Xia knows nothing about the secretary’s work, and the thick stack of documents makes her feel like she’s reading gibberish. Fortunately, Assistant Chen patiently explains it to her. They chat on WeChat voice for more than three hours, and only then does she manage to make a little progress on her work.
Taking a photo with her phone, she thinks about posting it on her WeChat Moments, but then she remembers that someone like Fu Cheng’an probably wouldn’t be interested in that. So she gives up on the idea.
That night, she dreams that she becomes Fu Cheng’an’s personal secretary. When he wants coffee, she serves him spinach juice instead.
She wonders if this dream could ever come true.
Before the weekend, she finally finishes her work and feels refreshed. She prints out the documents she has organized and goes to find Fu Cheng’an. She even has a feeling that she is his secretary.
Although it wasn’t the first time that Ruan Xia had seen Fu Cheng’an at work, every time she saw him like this, she would stare at him a little longer, even slowing down her speech.
Ruan Xia: “Mr. Fu, is there any other work for me to do?”
Fu Cheng’an: “No, there isn’t.”
She had been staying up late for these past few days all because of Fu Cheng’an.
Ruan Xia’s eyes were shining brightly. “Since there’s no more work to be done, Mr. Fu, can we start dating now?”
Even as Fu Cheng’an’s personal assistant, when Assistant Chen comes to his office, he always knocks on the door unless he enters with Fu Cheng’an. Moreover, this time Assistant Chen brought someone along.
When the knocking sound rang out, Assistant Chen said, “Mr. Fu, Mr. Zhou is here.”
Without delay, Ruan Xia quickly moved away from Fu Cheng’an and hid under his desk. She didn’t even give Fu Cheng’an time to react before she hid under the desk and watched him eagerly.
Zhou Zhiyuan had a good relationship with Fu Cheng’an. After Assistant Chen knocked on the door, he pushed it open himself.
Zhou Zhiyuan : “Brother Fu, I don’t think what you said is right. I love her because I love her, not because of my despicable possessiveness.”
After this incident, Zhou Zhiyuan thought about it for a long time. It was true that he had been drunk that day, but he didn’t have any memory lapses after he sobered up the next day. This made Zhou Zhiyuan think deeply, and he continued to ponder about it until now.
He also wondered whether his possessiveness, regret, and unwillingness were the reasons behind his behavior. He used to love her so much, but now that she was getting married to someone else and they were very affectionate, it was normal to experience some emotions.
But now, Zhou Zhiyuan could honestly and responsibly say that he truly loved her, and it was not because of any other reasons. He also believed in love and that it was not about weighing the pros and cons, nor was it about superficial attraction.
Zhou Zhiyuan rarely spoke so seriously and went on for more than ten minutes without any intention of stopping.
Meanwhile, Ruan Xia was still hiding under Fu Cheng’an’s desk, and Fu Cheng’an could even smell the fragrance of her perfume.
Fu Cheng’an: “Hmm, you’re right, I believe in love.”
Zhou Zhiyuan stood stunned in place. He hadn’t intended to convince Fu Cheng’an this time, he just wanted to express his own thoughts. But now, Fu Cheng’an said he believes in love?
After Zhou Zhiyuan left, Ruan Xia was still under Fu Cheng’an’s desk, feeling a bit scared to come out. She thought it was Assistant Chen coming to report work, but she didn’t expect Assistant Chen to bring someone else with him.
Ruan Xia came out from under Fu Cheng’an’s desk with slightly messy hair and called out to him, “Mr. Fu, thank goodness we weren’t discovered.”
Fu Cheng’an responded, “Get out.”
Ruan Xia : “Oh, okay, I’ll leave then.”
On the weekend, Ruan Xia could finally rest at home. Being a working person was not easy, and she slept in until the afternoon. She got up from her bedroom and lay down on the rocking chair in the living room.
Feng Jun sent a message to Ruan Xia, asking her to check the work group.
Ruan Xia suddenly remembered that when she started working, Feng Jun added her to several work groups.
She had too many WeChat groups and was very busy every day. She had never really checked the Fu Corporation’s work group.
[Have you heard? Mr. Fu has a new secretary by his side, and she’s his sweetheart.]
[Yes, yes. How could we not know? Someone saw them leaving together after work, and Mr. Fu even opened the car door for her.]
[They eat lunch together too, at first she went to the canteen, but later she stopped going there.]
[Oh my god, is this some kind of overbearing CEO romance novel come to life? Our Mr. Fu is actually in love.]
[It must be fake. Don’t even think about it.]
[I think so too…]
[When has there ever been a woman by Mr. Fu’s side?]
After one week of Ruan Xia joining Fu Corporation, rumors about these two began to spread within the company, but most people didn’t believe it. Some even said that Ruan Xia was a daughter of a wealthy family and a friend of Mr. Fu who came to gain experience. The opinions were varied.
Ruan Xia was very satisfied with this. When has there ever been a woman by Mr. Fu’s side? No, when has there ever been another woman by his side besides her? This kind of man represented no trouble.
Ruan Xia thanked herself again for the good timing of her transmigration. It was probably the time when Mr. Fu had the idea of getting married and having children, but he hadn’t started going to blind dates yet.
The weekend ended very quickly, at least that’s what Ruan Xia thought. After the weekend, Monday felt particularly difficult.
Ruan Xia realized that she really couldn’t work a regular job.
Before she transmigrated, Ruan Xia’s idea was to start her own business. Not only would she have freedom, but she would also earn more than she would if she just graduated and started working. Moreover, when she was in college, she started to focus on building her network, it wasn’t just empty talk.
In the evening after work, Feng Jun came to find Ruan Xia, “I have meal vouchers for the restaurant downstairs. A friend gave them to me and they are about to expire. Do you want to have dinner together? It’s the same place where we ordered takeout.”
Ruan Xia nodded, “Sure, I also want to eat there.”
As Fu Cheng’an’s secretary, Feng Jun certainly wouldn’t make a fuss over a meal, and Ruan Xia wouldn’t be petty enough to say “it’s okay, let’s split the bill” or “I’ll pay you back for the meal voucher”. She could just invite Feng Jun to a meal next time or give her a gift instead.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Ruan Xia and Feng Jun each ordered what they liked and started chatting.
Ruan Xia learned that Feng Jun was really inspiring. Although her family was well-off, they favored her younger brother, and while she went to a prestigious university and studied abroad, she eventually joined Fu Corporation and became Fu Cheng’an’s secretary. In contrast, her younger brother was still living off their parents and they were now proud of her.
Ruan Xia looked innocent and naïve, but she was quite shrewd.
She didn’t consider herself friends with Feng Jun; they were just colleagues who had known each other for about a week. As a secretary for Fu Cheng’an, Feng Jun was certainly not a naïve person and would know not to get too familiar with others.
Unless Feng Jun enjoyed showing off, which Ruan Xia could understand, there was another possibility that Feng Jun wanted to lower Ruan Xia’s guard against her.
Feng Jun asked, “Did you see the company group message I showed you last time?”
Ruan Xia nodded, “Yes, I did.”
Feng Jun asked curiously, “So, is it true or false? At first, I heard that you were Mr. Fu’s good friend’s younger sister who came here to gain experience, but it didn’t seem to be the case. I have to say, you and Mr. Fu look really compatible, like a couple.”
Ren Xia smiled and remained silent.
Feng Jun: “But right, I’m also stupid. How could it be true? Although I haven’t worked by Mr. Fu’s side for long, I’ve heard many rumors about him and have a rough understanding of his personality.”
Ruan Xia tilted her head, “What understanding?”
Feng Jun : “Of course, Mr. Fu is a person who may seem indifferent, but he has a strong sense of responsibility. So if he really falls in love, he won’t hide it and will make it public. If he doesn’t make it public, then it’s not a real relationship…” At this point, she paused, laughing awkwardly, and poured a glass of water for Ruan Xia.
Ruan Xia : “What are you trying to say? Are you suggesting that if Mr. Fu and I were really together but didn’t make our relationship public, it would be an inappropriate affair, right?”
Isn’t this just using a provocative method to bully a young girl?
Feng Jun spoke in such a harsh manner, trying to force or trick her into admitting or revealing her relationship with Fu Cheng’an?
Ruan Xia : “What does my relationship with Mr. Fu have to do with you? Do I have a dime relationship with you?”
Feng Jun didn’t expect that Ruan Xia refused to give in and give her any face. It was rumored that the new secretary was naive and easy to bully. Some joked that if she ever got into an argument, she would cry while arguing.
Ruan Xia stood up, took out the money to pay for her portion of the meal. Why not pay for the entire meal? Of course, why should she treat someone who was being so rude to her?
Slamming the money on the table, Ruan Xia told her, “You looked really ugly just now, did you know that?”
After leaving confidently, Ruan Xia felt that there were still onlookers around, looking at her with admiring eyes.
At the next table, Zhou Yu who was having a meal with Zhou Zhiyuan was surprised to see Ruan Xia having dinner with someone here. He didn’t expect Ruan Xia to be so sharp-tongued, which was quite interesting.
Zhou Yu sent a message to Fu Cheng’an on his phone, telling him about what had just happened.
[Zhou Yu : A secretary was testing your relationship with Ruan Xia, something seems off.]
[Zhou Yu : I didn’t expect Ruan Xia to be quite formidable.]
[Zhou Yu:She looked quite aggrieved, tears almost falling out.]
Zhou Yu rambled on, describing the scene in detail.
[Zhou Yu : The girl can’t stand it when people criticize you, it seems. She feels that what your secretary said is a denial of your personality. She’s quite protective of you, her husband.]
Ruan Xia didn’t think that Fu Cheng’an would fire Feng Jun because of her, or do anything to her in the workplace. Fu Cheng’an took work seriously, and even if Feng Jun was just an ordinary secretary, she was definitely someone that Fu Cheng’an approved of.
As for herself, Ruan Xia was very self-aware.
As for troubles, Ruan Xia had a good point, which was that very few things could affect her mood. Ruan Xia felt that she was a bit similar to Fu Cheng’an in this regard, and she didn’t feel like she had been taken advantage of.
As a small entertainment company owner, Chu Feng received front-row tickets for the concert, which was also in Yanjing. He thought of Ruan Xia and gave her two tickets.
“Mrs. Fu, the concert is tomorrow. If you and Mr. Fu are free, you can go together,” Chu Feng said.
“He definitely doesn’t have time. I’ll go with Aunt Sun,” Ruan Xia replied.
Chu Feng was stunned, then said, “Since that’s the case, thank you so much. My mother doesn’t understand anything about the concert, and I will have to trouble Mrs. Fu to take care of her.”
It’s hard to become someone that Ruan Xia approves of as a friend, and it’s also difficult to become someone she thinks she can get along with, except for the purpose of networking.
Chu Feng is a very smooth and capable person who knows how to climb up the ladder, but Ruan Xia can see that he has a good heart. Coupled with the label of a pure love-brain, he is someone she can get along with.
If the tickets were given by someone else, Ruan Xia would not have accepted them.
Ruan Xia said, “No trouble at all. Aunt Sun should also like it.”
Aunt Sun, the leader of the square dance, likes to sing and dance, so she is definitely very interested in the concert.
After finding out about the concert, Aunt Sun was very surprised and exclaimed, “A concert! Miss Ruan, last time you gave me a lipstick, and this time you’re taking me to a concert. I won’t be polite with you anymore.”
Ruan Xia was excited as well. She had been to concerts before and loved the atmosphere of the live performance. It was a unique experience, especially when the audience sang along to the high points.
Aunt Sun had looked up some tips online and found that there were several nice restaurants and a shopping mall near the concert venue.
Ruan Xia was so eager to go that she immediately informed Assistant Chen, that she was taking the day off.
She wasn’t a regular employee, and there wasn’t any work that she needed to do recently, so there was no reason to refuse her request. In fact, Ruan Xia could skip work without even notifying Assistant Chen if she didn’t feel like going.
Since Ruan Xia needed this process, Assistant Chen cooperated.
[Assistant Chen: How many days does Miss Ruan need to take off?]
[Ruan Xia: Two days.]
[Assistant Chen: Is it because of classes?]
[Ruan Xia: No, just need to adjust my mindset.]
[Assistant Chen: Alright, Miss Ruan.]
Adjusting her mindset was not a problem, after working for a long time, it was normal to go shopping and attend concerts to adjust one’s mindset.
Spend a whole day at the concert, take a day off the next day, and then work for two more days before it will be the weekend again.
Fu Cheng’an noticed that Ruan Xia didn’t show up for work when he left the office that evening. He was busy with work and might not have noticed Ruan Xia’s absence, but a whole day without her presence in the company was noticeable.
Fu Cheng’an thought of Feng Jun’s incident. Ruan Xia came to work every day, even if she didn’t work, she would not be late or leave early, and she had not taken a day off except for attending a class. Now that Ruan Xia didn’t show up for work, it was hard for Fu Cheng’an not to think of Feng Jun.
He glanced at Ruan Xia’s workstation.
Assistant Chen understood immediately, “Mr. Fu, Miss Ruan asked for leave with me yesterday.”
As a secretary, it was not necessary to report to Mr. Fu for such a matter. Assistant Chen had thought about whether to tell Mr. Fu about Ruan Xia’s leave, but he quickly realized that if he did, Mr. Fu might think that he was trying to read his mind.
Ruan Xia took this leave, probably because there was Feng Jun at work, and she didn’t want to come, she was afraid of Feng Jun. But every time he saw Ruan Xia, he felt that she was very bold and could do things that surprised him.
Mr. Fu asked, “Leave?”
Assistant Chen replied, “Yes, Miss Ruan said she wanted to adjust her mindset, probably because Miss Ruan has never been a secretary before and has never worked in the company like this.”
Today it was raining outside, the rain was not heavy, but drizzling.
The first time he saw Ruan Xia was on a day like this, not counting the time on set. Ruan Xia was standing here, stubborn and serious, wearing a white dress.
The Maybach drove from Fu Corporation in the rain.
Fu Cheng’an said, “Go to Jiangyue Palace.”
Ruan Xia was having a great time. She went to the mall near the concert in the morning, went shopping in the afternoon, looked at the merchandise outside the concert in the evening, and then attended the concert. Ruan Xia felt extremely relaxed.
When she got home, Ruan Xia found the lights were on, and after standing downstairs for a while, she took out her phone and saw a message from Fu Cheng’an sent two hours ago, as well as a missed call from him.
[Fu Cheng’an: I’m at Jiangyue Palace.]
In a daze, Ren Xia remembered that Aunt Sun had told her that Fu Cheng’an had called Aunt Sun to ask what she was doing. At that time, Ruan Xia was busy checking out the merchandise of the world’s top idol, full of youthful energy, and had no time to care about this matter.
Ruan Xia was very clear about when she would do what she needed to do, and would not let herself become very upset or physically and mentally exhausted for any one thing.
All she wants is to marry into a wealthy family, not to become Fu Cheng’an’s sweetheart. That would be too difficult.
So why did Fu Cheng’an come to find her?
When Ruan Xia arrived home, Fu Cheng’an was sitting in the living room, holding his laptop seemingly working.
Ruan Xia put on the plastic cartoon duck slippers she had bought and stood opposite Fu Cheng’an, her eyes shining like stars.
Ruan Xia has a pair of eyes that are naturally affectionate. Whenever she looks at someone seriously, she always makes them feel very affectionate. Someone once commented on Ruan Xia that even if she looked at a utility pole, it would probably be with deep affection.
Ruan Xia : “Hubby, did you miss me~”
Fu Cheng’an paused before asking, “How’s work been at the company during this time?”
Ruan Xia : “……..”
Where is the juicer?
She really wants to make him a full glass of spinach juice, representing her caring for him.
Ruan Xia can still remember the fear of being dominated by work. Of course, the work arranged by Fu Cheng’an allowed her to learn a lot, but she didn’t think it was necessary for him to come all the way here just to ask about her work after she took a leave of absence.
No, Fu Cheng’an doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would do something like that, waiting for her for two hours just to ask about the matter about her work.
So, this jerk found an excuse to get herself fired!
Now, resigning is not entirely out of the question, but Ruan Xia should be the one to resign, not Fu Cheng’an firing her.
Fu Cheng’an: “Be honest.”
When Ruan Xia heard the words “be honest,” she was reminded of something and was stunned for a moment before opening her mouth to speak, “I…”
When the surroundings suddenly turned dark, fine beads of sweat appeared on Ruan Xia’s forehead and her shoulders trembled slightly.
The scene from that year kept flashing through Ruan Xia’s mind – her responsibilities, the power outage, and herself crouching alone in the corner of the room.
After a few seconds of thought, she pounced on Fu Cheng’an without hesitation.
Fu Cheng’an was pressed down on the sofa by Ruan Xia, who was now in his arms. She was scared, but also kept up her act. She didn’t know how much of it was real and how much was fake.
Ruan Xia : “Hubby, I’m scared. It’s so dark.”
Her hot tears fell onto Fu Cheng’an’s clavicle, but he didn’t say anything. In the darkness, the two could only hear each other’s breathing and heartbeat.
When the lights came on, Ruan Xia still maintained her position, gradually regaining her composure. “Hubby, the job is great. The working environment is great, and everyone is nice to me. Assistant Chen is also willing to teach me things about work,” she said, her voice soft and shy. “It’s my first time liking a job this much, because I can see you at the company, have lunch with you, and secretly date you.”
Ruan Xia : “But, Hubby, am I causing you trouble?”
Fu Cheng’an : “Ruan Xia.”
Ruan Xia : “Hubby.”
Fu Cheng’an : “Have you considered getting up and talking to me?”
Ruan Xia : “……”
