Chapter 10 – Blinded by desire
Ruan Xia’s perspective on jumping into Fu Cheng’an’s arms is completely different from Fu Cheng’an’s thoughts. For her, she is definitely going to marry Fu Cheng’an, so what’s the difference between hugging her husband now?
She even rested her chin on Fu Cheng’an’s shoulder and said, “Hubby, can we just talk like this?”
Fu Cheng’an : “Get up.”
Ruan Xia’s voice was very small, “I don’t want to get up, sniff sniff, Hubby, don’t you love me anymore?”
Perhaps the heavens favored Ruan Xia. She had a good appearance and a beautiful voice. Even when she was being unreasonable, she sounded like she was acting spoiled, which could make people’s hearts soft. Her words of coaxing Fu Cheng’an were particularly smooth and not awkward at all.
“Hubby, I won’t go to your company anymore, okay?”
“I’m the stupid one, I’m so stupid.”
“I can’t let you be sad or unhappy.”
Finally, after a few minutes, Fu Cheng’an, who was still being hugged by Ruan Xia on the couch, spoke up, “Get up, stop making noise. I’ll fire Feng Jun.”
Ruan Xia : ” ??? “
It turned out that Fu Cheng’an was afraid of being disturbed. She understood now.
Fu Cheng’an : “Why aren’t you talking?”
Ruan Xia, who had regained her senses, hugged Fu Cheng’an’s waist tightly and said, “Hubby, I’m so touched that I can’t even speak!”
But in reality, she was still thinking about what Feng Jun had done to deserve being fired. It was definitely not just because of Ruan Xia. Fu Cheng’an firing Feng Jun to protect her was just a side effect.
Fu Cheng’an briefly noticed Ruan Xia’s change in mood, but he thought it was just his imagination.
Ruan Xia : “Hubby, Hubby~”
Ruan Xia wasn’t trying to be malicious by wanting to see someone get fired, so she continued to take her day off and do her own thing. As it turned out, when she went to the company the next day, Feng Jun was just starting to pack up and leave.
The other secretaries looked at Ruan Xia differently.
Feng Jun was packing her things up. When she saw Ruan Xia looking at her, she continued packing and walked past her. In a voice only they could hear, she said coldly, “Do you really think you can take down Mr. Fu?”
Ruan Xia : “Yes, it’s a fact.”
Feng Jun was taken aback by Ruan Xia’s words and gave her a meaningful look. She didn’t continue the conversation because she wasn’t in a hurry. She didn’t believe Ruan Xia could really take down Mr. Fu, although she didn’t expect to be fired either…
For the rest of the morning, Ruan Xia was absent-minded. Whenever she had some free time, she would try to find an opportunity to see Fu Cheng’an. However, this time, she didn’t have any spare time to spare for Fu Cheng’an and even tried calling the system a few times.
Assistant Chen was completely numb. He couldn’t figure out why Ruan Xia seemed so distressed.
As he passed by her, he couldn’t help but stop and watch her. He had never done such a thing before, staring at a secretary outside the boss’s office, even though she had a special status.
In the end, Assistant Chen summed it up in three words: “Blinded by desire!”
Ruan Xia : “Assistant Chen?”
Assistant Chen : “It’s nothing, Miss Ruan. Do you have something troubling you?”
Ruan Xia nodded, “I’m thinking about how to make Mr. Fu like me more.”
Like her to the point where he thinks she’s the perfect wife!
All day, Ruan Xia didn’t go to see Mr. Fu, nor did she send him any messages. When it was time to go home, she ran as fast as she could.
When Fu Cheng’an finished work, he saw that Ruan Xia’s workstation was empty and didn’t say anything.
Ruan Xia, who hasn’t married into a wealthy family yet, is quite poor. She can’t afford to go to a beauty salon or buy expensive skincare products for the time being, but luckily she’s young and has plenty of collagen. By taking good care of her skin and using face masks regularly, her skin is dewy and radiant.
“Dewy and radiant” was a term used by Aunt Sun to describe Ruan Xia’s appearance. Aunt Sun even said that Ruan Xia looks more radiant than the vegetables she buys.
Ruan Xia spent her day as usual, and talked with Chu Feng on the phone at home. Their relationship was developing in a way that felt like they were best friends. Since Ruan Xia didn’t have many friends, she didn’t mind talking to Chu Feng. Chu Feng was also a person of good character, and of course, Ruan Xia was particularly fond of hearing Chu Feng call her “Mrs. Fu”. Whenever Chu Feng addressed her as “Mrs. Fu”, Ruan Xia felt like she was going to get rich soon1.
Anyway, Chu Feng also knew that Ruan Xia was working at the Fu Corporation, and Ruan Xia complained to him about Feng Jun. She wanted to see if she could learn anything from Chu Feng.
Ruan Xia : “I didn’t say I was Mrs. Fu at the company, but then a secretary tested me and said some nasty things. Later, my husband fired her. Her name was Feng Jun.”
After a while, Chu Feng sighed, “Mrs. Fu, no wonder Mr. Fu married you. He loves you so much that he can break his own principles!”
Ruan Xia thought of Aunt Sun and felt that Aunt Sun sometimes worried about her son so much that it was not unreasonable. But still, she is not the same love-brain. Ruan Xia really wanted him to be more sober.
Ruan Xia : “Do you think it’s possible that this Feng Jun did something because of some hidden motive and was discovered by my Hubby?”
Chu Feng : “It’s possible, but Mr. Fu did it for you!”
Ruan Xia : “……..”
At this point, Ruan Xia became interested in Chu Feng’s love life. She wanted to see what happened in his past relationships.
Ruan Xia knew how to make small talk, and couldn’t just ask directly, she had to find a topic and gradually follow it down. What Feng Jun did to her that day was a way of making small talk, but unfortunately she may have underestimated Ruan Xia. If Ruan Xia really behaved the way she appeared, she might have said something to Feng Jun.
While Ruan Xia talked to Chu Feng, she looked for her own snacks. By the time Chu Feng started talking, Ruan Xia had already started eating chicken feet.
Chu Feng was also considerate and asked after half an hour, “Mrs. Fu, am I bothering you and Mr. Fu from resting?”
Ruan Xia: “No, it’s fine, you can continue.”
Fu Cheng’an’s personality was originally cold, but today he was even colder than usual. After finishing work and heading back, he sat in the car with the driver and Assistant Chen.
He remembered at the dinner party, a married business partner complained about how women’s minds were like a bottomless pit, impossible to understand. For instance, today he didn’t know why his wife was angry with him.
Zhou Zhiyuan had mentioned this topic before, he said that if you don’t understand, it’s because you haven’t put enough effort into it. Ever since Zhou Zhiyuan’s ex-fiancee announced her marriage, he had been very clear-headed about things. He still did things that a scumbag would do, but sometimes he enjoyed giving advice to others about how to handle their relationships.
Yesterday Ruan Xia was clinging to Fu Cheng’an and calling him “Hubby”. Today, he had fired Feng Jun, but Ruan Xia didn’t speak to him all day. However, this behavior of hers is out of the ordinary, and if she sent him even just a message, it wouldn’t make Fu Cheng’an think too much.
Fu Cheng’an : “Who’s looking after Ruan Xia now that Feng Jun’s been fired?”
Assistant Chen’s mind was quick, and he could interpret many meanings from just one sentence. But he was still uncertain about Ruan Xia’s situation, so he simply told Fu Cheng’an what he knew.
He recounted what had happened with Ruan Xia today, “I spoke with Secretary Li and asked her to take care of Ruan Xia. Secretary Li said that when Feng Jun came over today, she said something to Ruan Xia and after that Ruan Xia didn’t look very happy. Later, when I saw her, she still seemed upset, so I asked her if there was something on her mind. She answered… ” He paused for a moment before continuing, “She’s thinking about how to make you like her more.”
So, just because of this?
Fu Cheng’an didn’t believe it. Ruan Xia didn’t have that kind of personality. She wouldn’t go a day without messaging him for just this matter. So the key to the issue still lay with Feng Jun.
After returning home, Fu Cheng’an sat in the living room holding his phone and called Ruan Xia. However, the phone notification indicated that Ruan Xia was already on another call, and she didn’t answer his call. Fu Cheng’an glanced at his phone and then hung up.
He thought he was really crazy.
As she is a person with memory disorder, why did he bother with these things? Whatever she was willing to do, just let her do it. Anyway, her memory would eventually recover and she would be normal again.
After more than an hour, Fu Cheng’an was about to go to sleep when Ruan Xia’s call came in.
Ruan Xia : “Hubby, did you call me just now?”
Fu Cheng’an made a sound, reaching out to turn on the bedside lamp, but his slender fingers touched the switch and then retracted. “I dialed the wrong number.”
Ruan Xia held back her annoyance. What a jerk! He dialed the wrong number and it had actually interrupted her listening to Chu Feng’s love story. If Fu Cheng’an hadn’t called, Ruan Xia would have rationally analyzed the situation and listened to Chu Feng’s story a little longer before telling him that she was going to order takeout. She would still be listening now.
Was it just because they hadn’t contacted each other all day that she felt something was wrong?
Ruan Xia : “Hubby, did I disturb your sleep? Goodnight, Hubby.”
