Part 3 of Chapter 64

Shang Lu’s hair was half-wet, draped over her shoulders, and the beautiful collarbone had some obvious moist marks from the hair. She was wearing a fluffy pink robe on the outside, with a light white nightgown underneath.

Shang Lu walked straight to the guest room, casually placing her things by the bedside and running her hand over the bed.

It was a bit hard.

But it would have to do. After all, she can’t be too picky when she’s a guest.

Chi Yan stood at the doorway, his hands wrapped around his shoulders, looking at her. He asked, “What’s wrong? Not satisfied?”

Shang L, as usual, didn’t mince words with Chi Yan. “To be honest, it’s really hard. It’s not as comfortable as my couch at home. I suggest you change the mattress next time… Wait.”

Shang Lu opened the covers, revealing the bed frame beneath. There was no mattress at all, just two layers of blankets.

No wonder it was so hard. There wasn’t one in the first place.

So, Shang Lu corrected herself, “I suggest you add a mattress next time.”

However, Chi Yan suddenly said, “Actually, you can sleep in my room. The sheets and blankets were just changed, and even the mattress was replaced last week. It’s very soft. Would you like to try it?”

Shang Lu hesitated shamefully.

She thought she would just take a look, just a glance.

So, Shang Lu followed Chi Yan to his room, reached out, and pressed down on his mattress. Immediately, a look of surprise appeared on her face.

It was really soft, so comfortable.

So, tentatively, Shang Lu sat down. She felt like she was sinking into it.

Wow! This was her dream bed!

She could have put up with the hard bed frame if she hadn’t seen such a soft mattress.

So, Shang Lu looked up at Chi Yan.

The next moment, she kicked off her slippers, lay down directly on the blanket, and quickly rolled herself in.

Chi Yan laughed even harder, reached out, and pulled Shang Lu along with the blanket toward him. She rolled in his direction.

Shang Lu lay on her stomach, clutching a pillow, refusing to get up. She yelled, “Chi Yan! You just said I could sleep in your bed! You have to keep your word! No taking back!”

Then, Shang Lu felt a hand grabbing the tail of her robe and pulling it into the air. Since Shang Lu hadn’t fastened the buttons of her robe, she immediately felt a chill as her robe and body separated slightly.

What the heck, Chi Yan, he actually used this tactic?

So, Shang Lu had a sudden idea. She pulled her hands back easily and executed a ‘Golden Cicada Shedding Its Shell’ move.

Chi Yan still had the tail of her robe in his hand, but then he saw Shang Lu, agilely, directly slipping into his blanket and even looking at him provocatively. “It’s mine now!”

Shang Lu didn’t notice at all, that this series of actions had caused her once slightly loose sleeping gown to shift to the side, revealing the red marks inadvertently left by her nails when applying shower gel beneath her collarbone during her bath. This contrasted with her fair skin, creating a more visually striking impact.

It seemed that Chi Yan was provoked by Shang Lu, as he directly covered her face with the heavy bathrobe he held, enveloping most of her body within it.

Seemingly dissatisfied, he even shook her head through the bathrobe and said, “I told you I was giving it to you. How could I possibly compete with you? I just want you to get up and dry your hair; the pillow is soaked.”

“No,” Shang Lu rejected outright and pulled down the bathrobe, saying seriously, “I hate drying my hair. The feeling of the wind on my face is uncomfortable.”

Chi Yan didn’t agree, saying, “Sleeping with wet hair will give you a headache.”

“I’ll sleep when my hair is dry,” Shang Lu replied and couldn’t help but yawn.

There was a moment of silence.

Chiyanye reached out a hand to her and said, “Go dry your hair. I promise it won’t make your face uncomfortable.”

Shang Lu looked at him for a moment.

Thinking about how she’s still living at Chi Yan’s house, eating his food and drinking his drinks, it wouldn’t be too good if her wet hair soaked his bed.

So, with some reluctance, Shang Lu grabbed the bathrobe and took Chi Yan’s hand to stand up, walking out in her slippers.

The hairdryer was plugged in.

Shang Lu simply lay down on the sofa, looking like she had given up.

First, Chi Yan blew her hair ends and the top of her head, making sure not to blow on her face at all.

Feeling his fingers continuously threading through her hair, accompanied by bursts of warm air, it was actually quite comfortable.

The Young Lady, half-closing her eyes like a cat as she enjoyed the service, felt increasingly sleepy as she lay on the sofa.

Soon, Chi Yan began to blow the side of her hair.

His hand was just a centimeter away from her face, blocking most of the hairdryer’s airflow with the back of his hand. Occasionally, when he adjusted the direction of the hairdryer, he did it carefully.

Suddenly, Shang Lu spoke softly, “I once played a hairdresser in a play and learned at a hair salon for over a month. I accidentally got water on a customer’s neck while washing her hair. Later, when I was blow-drying her hair, she kept scolding me. She said I must have been born without a mother to be so clumsy and unable to do such a simple thing right. She asked if I knew how expensive her outfit was, saying that I couldn’t afford to compensate her with several months’ worth of salary.

“But in reality, the designer clothes she wore were fake, but I didn’t expose her, just listened to her continue to insult me. The role I had to play was like this, being harassed by unreasonable customers. I’m not really good at acting, but to play the role I wanted, I had to become like them. I could only use this clumsy method. If I could become one of them, I would, and if I couldn’t, I would try to empathize. But later on, I acted very well. At that time, I was just a supporting role, but because of this small role, the director appreciated me, and invited me directly as the second female lead for his new movie.”

“But I think you’re great, and many people like you. They also think you’re talented, including the director, who saw your effort,” Cheng Yan praised, then asked, “So what happened next? Were you satisfied with the second female lead role?”

“I didn’t take the role. I declined it,” Shang Lu pursed her lips and closed her eyes.

Because that movie had a scheduling conflict with a drama that Jiang Yi needed her to act in. Surprisingly, she chose the latter.

What Song Zeqian didn’t know was that Lu Shi’s character that won Best Supporting Actress award at the age of seventeen was the second female lead of the movie that that director had wanted Shang Lu to play.

But many years later, Shang Lu regained the audience’s recognition by portraying a similar character in <Life’s Journey> and earned the right to compete with Lu Shi, even surpassing Lu Shi.

So, all those things from the past, whether they were plot manipulations or not, were all in the past.

In the end, Shang Lu obtained what she wanted in a different way, so there was nothing to regret.

These days, reading the script had been exhausting. Now that Song Zeqian had chosen her, it was like a weight off her chest, and Shang Lu felt both physically and mentally relaxed.

She was overcome by drowsiness, her eyelids were heavy, and she couldn’t keep them open.

Shang Lu fell into a deep sleep.

Chi Yan looked at his own sofa, because he thought Shang Lu had bought and liked the sofa in her house when he first saw it, so he also bought sofa that was also larger than usual.

Chi Yan patted Shang Lu’s shoulder and said, “Get up, go back to the room to sleep.”

Shang Lu, half-awake, just turned over and looked at him, then quickly shielded her face from the bright light with her hand.

In less than half a minute, her steady breathing resumed.

Shang Lu put her hand on her face and fell asleep like that.

Chi Yan’s gaze fell on her ring finger, where the ring that Xiao Mi had given her was still neatly worn.

He then looked at his own left hand, with a slight smile on his lips. He bent down, picked her up from the sofa, and walked towards his room.

After laying Shang Lu under the covers, Chi Yan closed the door and returned to the guest room, lying down on the wooden plank bed.

Half a minute later, Chi Yan sat up again.

He extended his legs and put on slippers, then kicked the blanket under the bed a bit further in, got up, and flipped several cardboard boxes underneath, blocking them securely.

Hmm.

Now he could sleep peacefully.

    1. I think he’s playing being pitiful/fake sacrifice. To gain SL’s sympathy. See how he “kicked the blanket under the bed a bit further” and cover it more with several cardboard box.

The mattress there are similar to futon, it’s like an extra thick blanket. It would make more sense if the “blanket” in that line was actually the mattress designed for the guest room. By hiding it, he can manipulate SL to sleep in his bed and he can gain her sympathy by sleeping on a hard bed. Two wins by one move.
