Chapter 57 – Sweetness
Lin Yan’s body went weak and numb, yet he instinctively responded to Lu Heng as he was held tightly in his arms. Lu Heng grasped his head, wishing he could kiss him deeper, harder.
Then Lin Yan felt a ticklish sensation and immediately grabbed the other man’s hand. “President Lu, don’t…”
“Are you sure?” Lu Heng’s voice was low and husky as it teased him up and down. He lightly bit Lin Yan’s lip, as if barely holding back.
“I feel like I can’t endure it anymore.”
“I—”
“Ah…” Fine beads of sweat appeared on Lin Yan’s forehead. He tilted his head back, his waist lifting unconsciously, as though he couldn’t control himself.
“Mmm…”
Panting softly, Lin Yan used the last shred of his rationality to force out a sentence: “President Lu… you’re really bad.”
Lu Heng kissed his chin and let out a soft laugh. “I can be even worse.”
As if granted silent permission, Lu Heng began to act without restraint.
…
Morning light slowly filtered in through the sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room.
Lin Yan, still half-asleep, turned over. He felt the warm sunlight brushing against his eyelids, yet he was reluctant to open them.
Under the blanket, his body was soft and weak. Every inch of him carried memories of last night’s passion, so languid that even his fingertips refused to move.
Lu Heng woke first. He turned on his side and quietly watched the person beside him.
Lin Yan’s eyelashes cast delicate shadows in the morning light, trembling slightly with each breath—like a butterfly’s wings resting in stillness.
Unable to resist, Lu Heng gently raised his hand and brushed Lin Yan’s cheek. The skin beneath his fingertips was warm and smooth, carrying the softness of sleep.
“Awake?” Lin Yan asked with his eyes still closed, yet he precisely caught Lu Heng’s wandering hand. His voice was hoarse in that unique way only mornings could bring.
Lu Heng chuckled softly, threading his fingers through Lin Yan’s and interlocking them. “You were sleeping so peacefully.”
His thumb gently rubbed the back of Lin Yan’s hand, feeling the warm pulse beneath the skin.
Lin Yan finally opened his eyes and met Lu Heng’s focused gaze.
There was too much emotion contained in those eyes, making his heart tremble slightly. He remembered how those very same eyes had looked last night—deep as the night sky when desire surged, completely consuming him.
Thinking of that, a faint blush spread across Lin Yan’s face. He instinctively shrank deeper into the blanket.
Noticing his shyness, Lu Heng leaned down and pressed a light kiss to his forehead.
“Good morning.”
His voice was low and gentle, wrapping around Lin Yan like the morning sunlight itself.
Beneath the covers, their bodies nestled close together, their warmth intertwining and completely dispelling the chill of early morning.
Lin Yan tilted his head slightly and buried his face in the hollow of Lu Heng’s neck, breathing in deeply. It was Lu Heng’s unique scent—mixed with faint body wash and his own natural fragrance—comforting and reassuring.
Lu Heng’s hand gently stroked Lin Yan’s back, following the beautiful curve of his spine.
Every touch felt like an electric current passing through him, sending ripples across Lin Yan’s body. He let out a soft whimper—so gentle and warm that it stirred tenderness in the heart, only deepening Lu Heng’s affection for him.
“Does it still hurt?” Lu Heng asked quietly. His fingers gently combed through the messy strands of hair on Lin Yan’s forehead. Memories of last night’s passion surfaced—his own loss of control, his overwhelming fervor.
Lin Yan shook his head, though his face flushed even redder. He buried his face deeper into Lu Heng’s neck, unwilling to let him see his expression.
How could it hurt?
In Lu Heng’s embrace, every touch carried love. Even the occasional roughness was quickly soothed by the tenderness that followed.
The sunlight gradually brightened, gilding the entire room in gold. The air still held the intimate traces of the night before, silently speaking of heat and passion.
The rumpled sheets and scattered clothes beside the bed were witnesses to their love.
Lu Heng propped himself up and looked down at Lin Yan.
Bathed in sunlight, he seemed as though he had stepped straight out of a dream.
Lin Yan reached out, his fingertips lightly tracing Lu Heng’s chest, feeling the firm lines of muscle beneath his skin. That strength filled him with an overwhelming sense of security.
“I don’t want to get up today,” Lin Yan muttered softly, his voice tinged with childish petulance. He wrapped his arms tightly around Lu Heng’s waist, utterly reluctant to let go.
Lu Heng chuckled at his behavior and lay back down, pulling him into his arms. “Then don’t.”
His lips brushed against Lin Yan’s ear as he murmured softly, “I’ll hold you like this for a lifetime.”
The two of them lay quietly in the morning light, their bodies entwined, listening as their heartbeats slowly fell into the same rhythm.
“No… we still have to go to work,” Lin Yan hummed weakly from within Lu Heng’s arms.
Lu Heng gently patted his back, slow and rhythmic, as though coaxing a child to sleep. Lin Yan closed his eyes, savoring this rare moment of peace. In his embrace, the whole world felt simple and beautiful.
Lin Yan lightly punched his chest, though a blissful smile spread across his face.
Last night’s bold confessions and whispered intimacy still made his heart race when he thought of them. Those words had been like flames, instantly igniting their passion.
Lu Heng caught his mischievous hand and pressed a gentle kiss to it.
The sunlight grew warmer, slipping through the gap in the curtains and falling across their faces.
Lin Yan narrowed his eyes slightly, watching the light dance across Lu Heng’s sharply defined features. He reached out to touch the face that made his heart flutter—from his brow, to the bridge of his nose, and finally to lips that always seemed to carry a faint smile.
Lu Heng gently bit his wandering finger, his tongue brushing lightly across the tip.
The teasing gesture sent a shiver through Lin Yan, vivid images from the night before flashing through his mind. Those kisses—from his forehead, to his eyes, to the tip of his nose, and finally to his lips—each touch speaking of deep, wordless love.
“I’m hungry,” Lin Yan suddenly said, trying to shift the steadily warming atmosphere.
Lu Heng chuckled softly but didn’t let go of him.
“Do you want to eat,” he drawled on purpose, “or…?”
His fingers behaved badly, tracing slow circles along Lin Yan’s waist.
Lin Yan caught his wandering hand and shot him a mock glare. The smile in his eyes, however, gave him away.
“I really am hungry.”
Hearing that, Lu Heng immediately sat up.
Although he wasn’t as skilled at cooking as Lin Yan, he could still manage breakfast.
In the living room, Jin Zi lazily stretched, then hopped onto the cabinet and stared straight at Lu Heng.
“What are you looking at?” Lu Heng asked.
The faint blush still lingering on his cheeks, along with the hormones clinging to him, gave off a familiar scent. Jin Zi sniffed the air and keenly sensed that something was off.
“You two… hooked up?” Jin Zi asked casually, as if stating a simple fact.
Lu Heng closed his eyes and tilted his head aside. “Vulgar.”
This little stray cat, reeking of street attitude—how could it say something like that so naturally, without the slightest shame?
Then again, it was just a cat. It didn’t understand human propriety or embarrassment.
Jinzi glanced away, then looked back at him again. Though Lu Heng called it vulgar, the grin on his face was impossible to hide.
Tch. The most annoying kind of person—saying one thing while feeling another.
“Yo! Yo! Yo!” Jinzi’s voice grew more and more excited, its meows rising in pitch. “Looks like you finally got some!”
Lu Heng busied himself with the bread slices, copying the way Lin Yan usually prepared breakfast at home. He cracked two eggs, turned to heat the oil, and planned to fry an egg for him.
In a good mood, he ignored Jinzi’s teasing.
Jinzi, returning to its usual look of disdain, recalled its days of wandering and continued speaking fearlessly. “I haven’t felt this kind of vibe in a long time. Ever since that little female cat went home, I’ve never seen her again.”
After finishing the eggs, Lu Heng poured Lin Yan a cup of coffee, his hands never stopping.
Jinzi kept muttering to itself.
“I went to look for her, but her owner chased me away. I didn’t even get to see my kid.”
“Oh? So you’re a scumbag cat,” Lu Heng couldn’t help mocking—it was finally his chance.
“I’m not! Okay—I even brought gifts to see her!”
“Still a scumbag cat.”
Jinzi flew into a rage. Seeing Lu Heng turn with a plate in his hands, it stretched out a paw, trying to knock it over.
Lu Heng predicted the move first.
What—like you’re the only one with quick reflexes?
He pressed his lips together and smiled.
“Meow!!!” This time it was Jinzi’s turn to rage helplessly.
“What’s going on?” Lin Yan asked as he came out of the bedroom after getting dressed, already hearing the cat’s furious cries.
“Nothing,” Lu Heng replied.
He pulled out a chair, walked over, and guided Lin Yan to sit down.
On the table were sandwiches and the coffee he liked—things he often ate.
Lu Heng had remembered all of it.
Although this bread couldn’t compare to the fragrance of steamed buns, Lin Yan would still eat it from time to time at home for the sake of convenience.
“Can you understand what Jinzi is saying?” Lin Yan asked curiously. Ever since the two kittens joined the household, there had been nonstop meowing—especially just now, when Lu Heng had been talking to Jinzi.
So he guessed that even after turning human, Lu Heng could still understand what the cat was saying.
“Yes,” Lu Heng replied while chewing his sandwich.
“Were you two arguing earlier?” Lin Yan remembered the first night the two kittens had quarreled, their low growls continuing even as he was about to fall asleep.
“No, we were just chatting,” Lu Heng said. “There’s just something I don’t know whether I should tell you.”
He shot a sideways glance at Jinzi. At the moment, Jinzi had one hind leg lifted over its head, licking the fur on its thigh.
Two bell-like objects came into view. Lu Heng chuckled softly, though inwardly he thought, Just you wait.
“Go on,” Lin Yan said with a frown. Could it be that Jinzi could also turn into a human like Lu Heng?
Then again, even if it could, he wouldn’t be surprised—after all, wasn’t the person in front of him literally a cat who could turn human?
“Jinzi is in heat.”
What?!
Upon hearing this, Jinzi rushed over. It originally meant to jump onto the chair like yesterday and smack Lu Heng, but misstepped mid-jump and slipped onto the floor.
“Meow.”
“It can understand us?” Lin Yan asked curiously.
Judging by that reaction, it could probably understand at least part of what they were saying. That was honestly amazing.
“Mm. More or less,” Lu Heng said, nudging it aside with his foot—only to get swatted a few times in return. “So… should we get it neutered?”
“MEOW!!!” Jinzi howled. “No!!!”
Listening to that scream, Lin Yan felt something was off. Even though he couldn’t understand cat language, he could clearly sense Jinzi’s emotions—this was obvious resistance. “Really?”
“Yeah,” Lu Heng said. “I’ll book an appointment for it one of these days.”
“Meiqiu, you shameless thing!” Jinzi clawed at Lu Heng’s pant leg under the table. “You get to enjoy yourself and now you want to take away my right to enjoy myself too!”
Looking down, Lin Yan saw Jinzi’s face full of protest, every muscle screaming injustice. He felt Lu Heng was just teasing and said, “I don’t think that’s necessary. After all, you haven’t been neutered either.”
That single sentence made Lu Heng freeze.
He set his phone aside, then seemed to think of something and broke into a grin he couldn’t suppress. “If I were neutered, then you think you’d still—”
“Alright, stop right there.” Lin Yan cut him off in time. Who knew what embarrassing things he might say next “No neutering. Let it live a complete life.”
A good person.
Jinzi knew it hadn’t chosen the wrong owner after all. It immediately ran over to Lin Yan’s feet in gratitude, placing one paw on his leg as if declaring itself a devoted follower.
Seeing Jinzi like this, both of them burst into laughter—though each for entirely different reasons.
“Such a drama queen,” Lu Heng commented.
“Jinzi, you’re so cute,” Lin Yan said fondly, pinching Jinzi’s cheek before lifting it into his arms.
The moment it was picked up, Jinzi shot a smug glance at Lu Heng. This time, Lu Heng had no way to deal with it—after all, it clearly knew who truly held the highest position in this household.
“Is your lease almost up?” Lu Heng asked, shooting Jinzi a look before ignoring it and continuing to talk to Lin Yan.
“Yeah. I renew it yearly.”
When Lin Yan had first started working, he hadn’t been sure whether he could stay at the company. It had taken him nearly two years just to pass probation, so he hadn’t dared to sign a long lease—he didn’t want to risk unnecessary losses while things were uncertain.
“When the time comes, move in with me,” Lu Heng said.
“Huh?”
“If you don’t live there, I won’t either. It’d be a shame to leave a newly bought place empty.” He found an excuse—but in truth, he simply wanted to live with Lin Yan and give him a more comfortable environment.
“…Okay.”
Wait—how did I agree so easily? Lin Yan was just about to add something when Lu Heng cut him off.
“Finish eating, then we’re going to the office.”
With that, Lu Heng stood up, stepped around the table, bent down, and kissed Lin Yan lightly.
…
“Brother Yan, what are you thinking about?” Chen Xin walked into Lin Yan’s office. She had come to report on project progress.
The moment she entered, she saw him looking radiant—his face flushed, eyes bright. Who knew how someone could stare at a computer and look this happy?
Her instincts told her something good had happened.
“You two aren’t… are you?” Chen Xin covered her mouth, her expression screaming my CP is real.
“Shh.” Lin Yan pressed a finger to his lips, signaling her not to blurt it out.
“I get it, I get it.” Chen Xin raised an eyebrow. “Brother Yan, want to go to the pantry?”
The two of them soon headed there to chat.
As they talked, Chen Xin reached for her phone to show Lin Yan the photo she’d taken earlier—but after digging through her pockets, she froze.
“Ah! I didn’t bring my phone. Wait here, I’ll go get it.”
“No need. We’re still at work—don’t slack off,” Lin Yan said.
He straightened up and picked up a small piece of cake, taking a bite.
The moment the cream melted on his tongue, sweetness spread through his mouth—just as sweet as the feeling in his heart.
“Brother Yan,” Chen Xin asked curiously, “is President Lu… very strong in that area?”
No one would expect a girl to ask something like that so directly. The instant the question left her mouth, Lin Yan’s face flushed bright red.
“H-haven’t… haven’t gotten to that stage yet,” he stammered.
“Oh.”
Chen Xin curved her lips into a knowing smile. Like I wouldn’t be able to tell whether you have or not.
After returning to her desk, Chen Xin searched for her phone—but it wasn’t there.
Strange. She clearly remembered leaving it charging.
She looked around for quite a while.
“Is this your phone?” Sun Ning walked over and placed it on her desk.
“Oh—yes! Thank you.”
“It was on the floor by the doorway,” Sun Ning said.
Chen Xin didn’t recall hearing her phone fall. Even if it had, she should’ve noticed the sound—there was no way she’d miss it.
But seeing how serious Sun Ning looked, she didn’t question it.
Nothing was missing from her phone, and her earlier suspicion faded. She resumed her work.
“Not bad.”
Downstairs outside the company, Zhao Ming looked at the photos that had just been sent to him. Wearing a black cap, he pulled it lower.
“Director, I didn’t believe it at first either,” Sun Ning said with her head lowered. “If I hadn’t seen these photos, I’d still think Lin Yan got where he is purely on his own.”
Zhao Ming let out a cold laugh and slipped the phone into his pocket.
If it weren’t for Lin Yan, he wouldn’t have lost his job—nor would he still be unemployed at this point.
A director from a major corporation… reduced to this.
The resentment gnawed at him. He’d drifted aimlessly for so long. Even though that woman had gotten what she wanted and successfully transferred to an elementary school, it had only happened because of everything he’d sacrificed.
With no job, his family’s income had been cut off. His life was far worse than before, and the hatred buried deep inside him was bound to erupt.
Lin Yan—just you wait.
