Wen Le of Rebirth in the End Times (BL) – Chapter 19 City M

With three extra people, the car was just wide enough to accommodate everyone. Yin Chengyang was seated in the back row, while Xiao Wen held onto Huang Yao tightly with their child in between them. Huang Tao, who was small and thin, took up little space and sat next to Uncle Mo. Wen Le sat in the passenger seat, holding a gun with his right hand out of the window, responsible for scouting and clearing the road.

Huang Tao and his sister were shocked to see everyone with a gun. This was more than just a matter of skill!

As they drove on the highway, all the guns kept firing. If they couldn’t get through, they could at least ensure a safe retreat.

Wen Le was especially vigilant, keeping his eyes fixed on the road ahead.

The night before, Han Ya had told them that they weren’t going to cross M City directly. Instead, they would take a highway that cut through a corner of the city, which happened to be the light industrial zone that was a key development area for M City. The outbreak had occurred during the day, and there were sure to be workers in the area, with a density no less than that of the city center. It had been two days since the outbreak, and the highway through M City was likely to be jam-packed with cars leaving the city.

They hadn’t encountered any cars leaving M City on their way here, before they turned towards the village.

While some people might be trying to escape in other directions, it was unlikely that they hadn’t encountered a single car!

“Are all the people in M City dead? Why haven’t we seen a single car?!” Yin Chengyang muttered in the back seat.

The others frowned as well.

They were going to enter M City in half an hour, but on the left side, there were hardly any parked cars going in the opposite direction.

Huang Tao explained, “The roads leading out of M City on this side have been under repair since last week. It looks like they weren’t finished by the time the monsters appeared!”

Han Ya cursed under his breath.

If something went wrong, those who wanted to escape wouldn’t care whether the roads were being repaired or not. There were probably quite a few people running in this direction, but they hadn’t made it out. They were likely stuck on the way into the city.

It was going to be troublesome for them to cross M City along the highway.

Sure enough, Wen Le was the first to see the blocked road ahead, where several cars were collided, including those heading in the opposite direction.

“Stop the car!” Wen Le yelled urgently.

As soon as the car stopped, everyone saw the swaying figures pouring out of the blocked area. Wen Le sighed, opened the door and got out of the car, stopping the others from getting up.

“I’ll go ahead and check the situation. The movements of these zombies are still quite stiff, and I’m still confident that they won’t get close to me,” he said.

Xiao Wen ignored Wen Le’s words and jumped out of the car with him to move forward.

Wen Le glanced at him and knew that Xiao Wen was not at ease, so he didn’t say anything.

The two of them took turns shooting and dealt with the zombies who wanted to get close. They slowed down when they were five meters away from the nearest car.

Wen Le paid close attention to the situation inside the car. He didn’t want to be attacked by the zombies inside the car as soon as he approached.

They walked three meters forward and shot and killed the zombie stuck in the driver’s cab who couldn’t get out. They didn’t move forward anymore.

The situation ahead was obvious: the blocked cars were densely packed, and unless their car had wings to fly over, they would have to change direction.

After returning to the car, they explained the situation to the others. Yin Chengyang and Wen Le guarded outside to prevent the people inside the car from being surrounded by zombies while discussing a way out.

Han Ya held a map and found that there was only one road they could take to enter the city. Just when he was at a loss, Huang Tao hesitated to speak again. It was true that even if this group of people had good weapons and were intelligent, they couldn’t match Huang Tao, who had been driving a taxi in M City for eight years.

Han Ya patted Huang Tao’s shoulder and smiled, “Okay, you saved us for good reason. Let’s use your expertise.”

Huang Tao rubbed his head embarrassedly. By now, he had realized that the group of people who had saved him and his two companions were not ordinary people. They could bring the three of them together in this apocalypse, which was a great favor. Even if his sister had some kind of ability, he and his nephew were just a burden. Since they didn’t mind, he would do his best to repay their kindness. In this world, who could help others for no reason? If they received help from others, they should repay them, especially since these people had saved their lives. They couldn’t repay them no matter what. Now that he could help them, Huang Tao was also very happy.

“Well, just show us the way. Try to go to places with fewer people. Leave the rest to us. As long as we can safely leave M City, we will count it as your great contribution!” Han Ya said with a smile.

“No, no, I’m happy to help. It’s what I should do,” Huang Tao quickly waved his hands.

Han Ya didn’t say anything and called back Wen Le and Yin Chengyang.

Following Huang Tao’s instructions, Mo Yan drove off the highway and turned left into the wilderness. After several twists and turns, they actually made it into M City.

Wen Le couldn’t help but admire the taxi driver’s expertise. This was not a road at all, just a wild grassland, but he managed to find a way out!

At first, things were still okay when they entered the city, but the farther they went, the quieter the people in the car became.

As they fired and killed zombies on the roadside, they watched the severed limbs and arms on both sides of the street. When they left City A, those who had turned into zombies were still unconscious. It wasn’t until now, two days later, that they truly witnessed the cruelty of the apocalypse.

Huang Yao tightly hugged the small child in her arms. She had clearly seen a monster biting a small, skinny child on the roadside just now.

As they approached the highway, they also got closer to densely populated areas.

The zombies on both sides of the road were no longer scattered, but surged in the hundreds and thousands. After all, it was only the third day of the apocalypse, and many survivors did not rush out of the city at the first time, but instead hid in various buildings. The scattered zombies were attracted by the scent of the living and kept scratching at the walls and doors.

The car kept moving forward, and Wen Le had just seen someone peering out of a window in a residential building. He tightly gripped the gun in his hand and kept shooting.

He couldn’t save them; they couldn’t even save these still living people. They themselves didn’t know what lay ahead.

“We will definitely find a safe place and establish an idyllic haven. Then we will have the ability to rescue those who are still alive,” Han Ya comforted the silent people in the car. He was not heartless. He also wanted to save the people who were trapped by zombies in buildings.

Moreover, he knew that with everyone’s current mood, as long as someone took the lead, they would go for rescue.

But after saving them, what would happen?

They couldn’t protect so many people, and if these people didn’t know how to help themselves, they would eventually be consumed by zombies. He only wanted to keep himself and his people alive for now.

Wen Le listened to Han Ya’s words and calmed down. Yes, the most important thing was to ensure their own safety. He didn’t want to relive the past.

When they had a safe place and enough ability, they would try to seek help for those in need.

But who knew how many people would still be alive by then…

“Hospital…” Zhou Quan suddenly spoke up.

Everyone was puzzled and looked in the direction Zhou Quan was looking at.

It was a large hospital.

Seeing the occasional zombies flashing by the windows of the hospital, other people didn’t understand what Zhou Quan meant.

Han Ya and Xiao Wen thought of it first, but both shook their heads in disagreement with Zhou Quan. Only Wen Le thought about it and looked back at the hospital.

Zhou Quan was a doctor, proficient in surgery, and knowledgeable in other medical fields. Under the current circumstances, he definitely wouldn’t be thinking about the patients in the hospital who didn’t even know they were alive or dead. What caught his attention were the medical equipment in the hospital.

They had collected some small medical equipment, but there were still many large pieces of equipment that couldn’t be collected with money alone in the first two months of the apocalypse.

“Do we pass by a large hospital in a relatively open area on our way out of M City?” Wen Le asked Huang Tao.

Huang Tao didn’t know what he meant, but he carefully thought about it and said, “We pass by a newly built hospital when we leave M City. Because the second train station in M City is being built there, many facilities are still under construction. Comparatively, there are mostly construction workers around, and the flow of people isn’t very high.”

Zhou Quan’s eyes lit up, and he looked at Xiao Wen.

Xiao Wen frowned and only said, “We’ll see how the situation is when we get there.” If there weren’t too many zombies in the hospital, they could still try to break in. If it was too dangerous, they would have to give up.

Zhou Quan also understood that they couldn’t risk their lives for equipment that they might not even use
