Wen Le of Rebirth in the End Times (BL) – Chapter 13 Chen Jianheng

“Why don’t you sleep a little more?” Xiao Wen looked at his watch as he saw Wen Le climb up.

Wen Le crawled into the blankets that Xiao Wen was huddled in. “Not sleepy. Are everyone in the room together?”

“They came in one by one. Did they wake you up?”

“No.”

After that, they didn’t say anything and just leaned against each other quietly. When it was time for a shift change, Xiao Wen didn’t go down. For him and Wen Le, the outdoor temperature in winter was not as unbearable as it used to be, so there was not much difference between resting inside or outside, especially with Wen Le on the rooftop.

Wen Le didn’t say anything either. He let Xiao Wen lie on his lap, tucking him in with the blanket, while silently keeping an eye out and releasing his mental power to pay attention to any movement inside the room.

Watching the morning star rising gradually in the sky, a new day was about to come. Even in the apocalypse, Wen Le felt fearless as long as he had this man beside him.

When they arrived, they had already attracted the zombies near the gas station and eliminated them, so they didn’t encounter any danger that night. The zombies attracted by the waves of survivors who came later were not too many and were easily resolved by Xiao Wen.

Wen Le sat on the rooftop for more than three hours, watching the sky brightening up, and couldn’t help but sigh softly. Since he came up, no more survivors had gathered around. Those who were able to leave the city promptly when danger arose were intelligent people, but he didn’t know how the people left in the city were doing. This night…I’m afraid many people have died…

Xiao Wen didn’t sleep soundly and woke up to Wen Le’s sigh. He stood up and moved his body a bit before jumping off the rooftop with Wen Le.

The people inside the house gradually woke up, and Wen Le ignored Yin Chengyang’s expectant gaze and began to pack things with Uncle Mo and Zhou Quan.

“Hello, thank you all for last night.” A man who had not slept all night approached Xiao Wen with his hand outstretched. “I’m Chen Jianheng.”

“Hello, Xiao Wen.” Xiao Wen also shook hands with him.

“Do you know what’s going on outside?” Chen Jianheng asked.

Xiao Wen shook his head as he had expected. Communication devices became unusable shortly after the apocalypse started, so it was impossible to know what was happening outside.

Chen Jianheng sighed. He didn’t really expect an answer, but he couldn’t help but feel disappointed after hearing it.

Since yesterday afternoon, the world had changed. Perhaps the Maya prophecy had come true, and those monsters had become the natural enemies of humanity.

“Where are you guys going?” A weak female voice broke the silence and asked.

After packing their things, Mo Yan and Yin Chengyang carried them outside, followed by Zhou Quan and Uncle Mo. Han Ya and Wen Le walked up to Xiao Wen.

“The world is in chaos now, who knows where is safe. Let’s take it step by step. How about you guys?” Han Ya shrugged helplessly and looked at Chen Jianheng.

Seeing the kind face of Han Ya, someone spoke up boldly.

“You were the first to come over, and you brought your bedding, so you must have been prepared. We’re all brothers in the same boat, why hide anything?”

As the man spoke, many people nodded in agreement, while those who disagreed looked at Han Ya and the others.

Hearing the voices behind him, Chen Jianheng frowned and raised one hand slightly before putting it down.

Wen Le watched the group of people and kept his mental alertness on the movements inside the house. He naturally noticed Chen Jianheng’s small movements, and after he finished, several people separated from the crowd and walked behind Chen Jianheng.

Wen Le raised his eyebrows and felt no malice from these people. Instead, their movements seemed more like they were distancing themselves from the group sitting on the ground.

Xiao Wen raised his eyebrows and looked at Chen Jianheng, smiling. He liked smart people.

Chen Jianheng also smiled.

The group sitting behind didn’t catch on to Chen Jianheng’s thoughts and still thought that, as fellow newcomers, Chen Jianheng and his group should be on their side.

“Why aren’t you talking anymore? Are you feeling guilty? Or should you just come clean so that everyone can be better off? Otherwise…”

“What else?” Han Ya asked with a smile.

The man who had been talking non-stop was angered by Han Ya’s laughter, and suddenly stood up. The several people sitting next to him also stood up.

“Don’t push us too far, or we’ll have to take action!” The man spoke as he walked towards Chen Jianheng and his group, who they thought would also believe that these people who had taken the gas station first didn’t know their place.

Wen Le felt depressed as he watched this idiot and his idiotic friends walk towards him, looking at him with ill intentions.

Do they all think he’s an easy target?

It’s no wonder these people are surrounding him. Xiao Wen’s aura is very strong, and Han Ya’s constant smiling makes it difficult to tell his depth. Compared to them, Wen Le is naturally seen as the weakest link.

Han Ya’s expression didn’t change, and he continued to smile and ask, “Who are you trying to provoke?”

As soon as he finished speaking, the man punched Wen Le.

Did they really dare to act?

With the man’s movement, some of the people sitting behind him started cheering. Chen Jianheng and his men were preparing to stop the idiot who had said he would take action, but Xiao Wen and his group were the first to arrive here and had the confidence to turn on the lights and come here. Could they be simple people?!

But the next second, all the voices stopped abruptly.

Wen Le stared expressionlessly at the man who was punching at him, with his gun pointed at the man’s head.

“Do you have a problem?”

In response to Wen Le’s question, the man wanted to shake his head in fear, but he didn’t dare to move. The gun on his head was real, and who would have thought that the person who looked the easiest to bully would actually pull out his gun without any hesitation?! The man regretted his actions deeply.

Chen Jianheng’s pupils contracted as he looked at this delicate and pretty young man in front of him, then at the gun in his hand. He recalled that since they got on the highway until now, there were many monsters with their heads blown off lying around. Perhaps it was these few people in front of him who did it.

Han Ya turned to Chen Jianheng as if he hadn’t seen anything, “Shall we talk outside?”

Chen Jianheng nodded and followed along with the people who had been standing behind him since the beginning, walking out with Xiao Wen and his group.

Wen Le put his gun away, turned around, and followed them out.

Before leaving, regardless of whether the remaining people inside the house were listening or not, he said indifferently, “It’s not easy for anyone to survive in the apocalypse. Provoking others recklessly will only lead to a faster death.”

“You’re a soldier.” When they walked to the front entrance of the gas station, Mo Yan had already parked the car here. Xiao Wen turned around and said.

Yesterday, Chen Jianheng and his group were the first survivors to arrive here at night. Xiao Wen noticed from the beginning that they were driving a military vehicle with military license plates.

Chen Jianheng nodded. “I came back on leave to visit my family, but I didn’t expect something like this to happen.”

Xiao Wen looked at the people behind him. Besides three young people who looked like soldiers, there was only a 14 or 15-year-old girl and an old man with white hair.

Seeing the sadness in Chen Jianheng’s eyes, Xiao Wen sighed, estimating that his visit home this time would be in a bad situation.

“What are your plans?” Han Ya asked.

“We plan to go back to the T Military District. Although we don’t know the situation over there, we are soldiers and we must return to our unit,” Chen Jianheng said truthfully, without hiding anything.

Xiao Wen nodded and didn’t say anything more.

After thinking for a moment, Wen Le went back to the car and took out two guns and some bullets from the space, handing them to Chen Jianheng.

Chen Jianheng was stunned, but he accepted them without being pretentious. They were not allowed to carry weapons when leaving the army, and they had only relied on the knives and sticks they carried when they escaped from the city.

“Thank you,” Chen Jianheng thanked him solemnly. With the guns, they had a better chance of surviving.

Wen Le shook his head. He respected soldiers very much. In the apocalypse, soldiers always fought at the forefront, protecting the survivors without hesitation. They were heroes, tragic heroes. Because they used their lives to protect the people, but too many of them survived the zombies and mutated animals, only to eventually fall in the political struggles of those in power.

“Sometimes, the orders of those in power are not necessarily right. Don’t be blinded by the duty of a soldier. Think more about your loved ones who are still alive, think more about the warriors who have fought with you through thick and thin, and don’t waste lives for no reason.” Wen Le hesitated for a long time before saying it. The meaning of his words was already very clear, and he believed that Chen Jianheng could understand it.

Using the cover of his pocket, he took out a watch-like positioning call device that was the same as the ones they had.

“We plan to go to Tibet. If… you can find us in the Tibetan area, as long as the distance is not more than twenty kilometers, our location will be displayed on it.”

Chen Jianheng didn’t know why this delicate young man in front of him said what he just said, but he still took the watch from the boy’s hand.

“My name is Wen Le,” Wen Le said to Chen Jianheng before getting in the car.

After saying “goodbye”, they got in their respective cars and drove in different directions at the highway intersection a few kilometers ahead.

Both sides just silently remembered this small episode, and no one thought that they would be grateful for this small episode a long time later
