Chapter 285- Gloomy Blood Servant vs. Obsessive Vampire Prince (18)
Luckily, Wei Ruihan had been waiting in the car downstairs at the company for Huangfu Jian, and the two of them arrived together.
Wei Ruihan had previously heard about Huangfu Jian’s identity from Huangfu Yu, and it had made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. However, his brother (Huangfu Yu) kept reassuring him that Huangfu Jian was unaware of the situation.
After interacting with Huangfu Jian, Wei Ruihan came to see him as an open and straightforward person with a sharp business mind. Although Huangfu Jian was a bit younger and somewhat less experienced compared to Huangfu Yu, Wei Ruihan couldn’t help but feel that the two had a lot in common.
Even though they weren’t related by blood, both shared the surname Huangfu, and Wei Ruihan found himself thinking that the two of them really did resemble a pair of brothers.
In fact, Wei Ruihan even secretly contemplated finding a chance to tell Huangfu Jian about the shamelessness of the Huangfu family. He was determined not to let Huangfu Jian stand on the opposite side of his brother in the future.
When they arrived at the auction, Wei Ruihan immediately noticed Mu Jin and Huangfu Yu. He quickly waved at them and briskly made his way over.
Turning his head, he noticed Wallis standing beside them, and a brief flash of admiration crossed the young man’s eyes. Clearing his throat, he extended his hand to Wallis, pretending to be a gentleman, and said, “Hello, sir. May I ask how I should address you?”
Today, Wei Ruihan was dressed in a checkered suit, having made a deliberate effort to look sharp—his appearance was practically flamboyant.
Wallis, naturally aware of who Wei Ruihan was, nodded politely and responded, “Hello, Mr. Wei. I am Wallis, the private secretary of the Mu family head.”
Upon hearing Wallis introduce himself, Wei Ruihan flashed a bright smile. Wallis paused for a moment, slightly taken aback by the sunny demeanor of the young man across from him.
For some reason, Wei Ruihan’s appearance gave Wallis a vague sense of familiarity and warmth, though the feeling quickly passed, and something about it seemed off.
Instinctively feeling a sense of rejection, Wallis, after being polite, naturally shifted his attention to Huangfu Jian. However, the moment he laid eyes on Huangfu Jian, Wallis’s heart unexpectedly skipped a beat.
Huangfu Jian was still wearing the suit he typically wore to work, having not made any particular effort to dress up.
After work, he had simply come straight to the event with Wei Ruihan. Despite the simplicity of his attire, his striking features and tall, well-proportioned figure made the young man’s presence impossible to ignore.
Wallis was well-known in high society, renowned for his competence, having managed the Mu family business for a long time. After Wei Ruihan introduced himself, Huangfu Jian politely extended his hand toward Wallis as well.
Although Wallis had previously instructed others to investigate Huangfu Jian at Mu Jin’s request and had seen many of his records, including photos, this was the first time he had met the young man in person.
For reasons he couldn’t quite explain, the moment Wallis saw Huangfu Jian, his heart trembled. No one noticed the brief flicker of silver in Wallis’s eyes as he gazed at Huangfu Jian, his expression growing more intense and deep.
The usually calm and gentle blond vampire flashed Huangfu Jian a charming smile and reached out to firmly shake his hand. Before letting go, Wallis’s fingertips lightly grazed Huangfu Jian’s palm, almost as if by accident.
The sudden sensation of a tickle in his palm made Huangfu Jian instinctively turn to look at Wallis, but everything about Wallis’s mannerisms appeared perfectly proper. This left Huangfu Jian to wonder whether that flirtatious gesture had been nothing more than his imagination.
However, Mu Jin, standing nearby, had seen everything clearly. He had never seen Wallis smile like that at anyone before.
From the moment Huangfu Jian entered Wallis’s line of sight, it seemed that Wallis’s gaze had been fixed on him, almost obsessively. Mu Jin even noticed a faint hint of vampiric pressure unintentionally leaking from Wallis’s presence.
It was the gaze of a predator locked onto its prey. Although the possessiveness in his eyes was well-hidden, Mu Jin still noticed it.
He had never seen Wallis look at anyone like this before. Even when searching through the original owner’s memories, he found that Wallis never showed any particular preference or desire for food. The people around him were as clean and unremarkable as the original owner himself.
So now, seeing Wallis in this kind of state—could it be that he had developed some other kind of interest in Huangfu Jian?
At this thought, Mu Jin raised an eyebrow, finding the idea of the two of them becoming a pair rather intriguing.
However, if he remembered correctly, Huangfu Jian was a straight man in the original storyline. Wallis would need considerable courage if he planned to turn the male protagonist.
The auction proceeded smoothly. The people around them occasionally placed bids on various items, but Mu Jin remained uninterested in anything on display.
He knew that the Sacred Contract wouldn’t be openly revealed and would likely be disguised. However, none of the items so far seemed to give off any magical energy, leaving him disappointed and thinking that he might walk away empty-handed from this auction.
The auction’s pace was neither too long nor too short. Some items managed to excite the crowd’s nerves here and there. It had to be said that the auction house had chosen an excellent auctioneer—though not particularly attractive, he was highly skilled.
Mu Jin held his wine glass idly. Noticing his boredom, Huangfu Yu leaned in with some concern and softly asked, “What’s wrong? Not enjoying yourself?”
Mu Jin shook his head at the question and swirled the wine in his glass before handing it to Huangfu Yu. Taking the glass, Huangfu Yu downed it in one gulp and smiled at him, “If you didn’t want to drink, why hold on to the glass? If you find the auction dull, we can leave.”
Mu Jin smiled reassuringly at his lover. He had just noticed that Huangfu Yu was using the opportunity of the cocktail party to discuss some collaboration projects with many people.
He knew this kind of event was a good place to expand connections, so even though he wasn’t particularly fond of such occasions, he wouldn’t hold his lover back.
Mu Jin responded slowly, “I was just holding the wine glass to look the part. I’m not that bored. You go ahead and do your thing; I’ll stay right here by your side.”
Mu Jin had never had much of a preference for red wine, in any world. He preferred the pure fragrance of strong liquor like baijiu.
However, since arriving in this world and becoming a vampire, he found all food other than blood to be tasteless. Naturally, red wine failed to capture his interest. He had only picked up the glass, recalling scenes from old movies, to blend in.
Seeing Mu Jin behaving so obediently, Huangfu Yu returned to his conversations with the people around him. Mu Jin, meanwhile, casually observed from a distance as Julia clung to Huangfu Jian.
Watching Julia flick her hair and try her best to showcase her charm, Mu Jin couldn’t help but think how persistent the plotline was. Julia was still just as drawn to the male protagonist as she had been in the original story.
However, it seemed that Huangfu Jian wasn’t particularly interested in Julia. Though he smiled and appeared polite, there was an obvious sense of distance. In contrast, he seemed closer to Wallis, who had been by his side the whole time.
Mu Jin found it amusing to see Julia’s repeated attempts to seduce Huangfu Jian with her charms, while he remained unmoved.
His reserved but courteous demeanor finally caused Julia, in a moment when no one else could see, to twist her face in frustration. Seeing this, Mu Jin couldn’t help but smile slightly, finding it quite entertaining.
However, from Huangfu Yu’s perspective, what he saw was his Xiao Jin gazing at Huangfu Jian, smiling beautifully.
His Xiao Jin had never shown such a kind and gentle expression to anyone else, except for him. So why, just from looking at Huangfu Jian from afar, could he smile so sweetly?
Huangfu Yu couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy. He had never cared about Huangfu Jian’s bloodline or the indirect harm it caused him. But now that Huangfu Jian had captured Mu Jin’s attention, it was something Huangfu Yu couldn’t accept.
A storm brewed behind his eyes, but the moment Mu Jin turned to look at him, Huangfu Yu immediately returned to his usual gentle expression.
He lightly tousled Mu Jin’s hair, casting a discreet glance at Huangfu Jian. Though it seemed like an innocent display of affection, in reality, he was subtly declaring his claim to everyone around them.
Julia, always relentless, grew increasingly frustrated as her repeated attempts to seduce Huangfu Jian failed.
What’s worse, Wallis, standing where Huangfu Jian couldn’t see him, gave her a cold look and even exerted his pressure as a warning. She could only feel a growing resentment in her heart.
Though they were both of the fourth generation of vampires, Wallis’s strength was second only to Mu Jin’s, and many third-generation vampires weren’t even his match. Julia understood Wallis’s warning, and with a huff of frustration, she turned and left, pouting.
Once the auction and cocktail party finally concluded, Wei Ruihan looked at the two pairs standing before him and let out a deep sigh. After spending so much time styling his hair and choosing this eye-catching outfit, it all felt like a wasted effort.
Even the person who had left him completely amazed, Wallis, only greeted him politely at the beginning. After that, Wallis’s attention had been focused entirely on Huangfu Jian.
Wei Ruihan had to admit that Huangfu Jian was indeed outstanding and undeniably handsome, but surely he wasn’t bad himself, right? Why hadn’t anyone noticed him?
As the event ended and people started leaving, Wallis volunteered to give Huangfu Jian a ride home.
Huangfu Jian had originally come with Wei Ruihan, but Wei Ruihan, now in a gloomy mood, announced that he was going out to drink his sorrows away, while Huangfu Jian declined the invitation.
Huangfu Jian initially said he would just call for a car, but Wallis was insistent, and he finally agreed. After Huangfu Jian had settled into his car, Wallis turned to look at Mu Jin.
Mu Jin knew that Wallis was signaling him, so he smiled back and leaned closer, saying softly, “Huangfu Jian is not that simple.”
Wallis nodded at Mu Jin’s words and respectfully replied in a low voice, “Master, I’m infatuated with him at first sight.”
“Are you serious?” Mu Jin was surprised that Wallis would openly admit to falling for Huangfu Jian. He had originally thought that Wallis had merely found a rare and appealing target.
However, now that “infatuation at first sight” had been expressed, it indicated that Wallis intended to develop genuine feelings, which left Mu Jin a bit taken aback.
But seeing Wallis nod firmly at him, Mu Jin naturally wouldn’t want to dampen his enthusiasm. After giving him an understanding smile, he left the venue with Huangfu Yu at his side. He thought to himself that with Wallis’s charm, he might actually be able to win someone over.
Although Huangfu Yu had been in charge of the Malkavian family’s business in recent days, this was still a significant occasion for a public appearance.
Wallis had come not only for the Sacred Contract but also to showcase Huangfu Yu’s standing in the Mu family enterprise. With Huangfu Yu’s help, Huangfu Jian’s career was progressing faster than it had in the original timeline.
