Chapter 136 – Violent Useless vs. Delicate Cat (16)
The young man had been breezing through school for years without caring whether his grades were good or bad. But now, seeing how outstanding his little cat’s results were, Yan Yang felt a sense of crisis.
Though he was proud of Mu Jin, he also felt that, as his partner, he couldn’t afford to lag behind so much. What if others thought he wasn’t worthy of his little cat?
With that in mind, Yan Yang gritted his teeth and silently vowed to himself. He’d have to stop slacking off and do his best in class, at least to avoid disappointing his little cat.
Unaware that his behavior had unintentionally triggered his lover’s determination, Mu Jin was already daydreaming, feeling a bit hungry and ready to pull Yan Yang away to grab lunch together.
Mu Jin had no idea that getting the top score in the grade was such a big deal, but he noticed the number of students giving him admiring looks as they walked. Especially in their class, it was impossible to ignore him now.
No one expected the new transfer student to be so outstanding in his studies, leading many students to marvel at how Mu Jin was not only charming and kind but also brilliant—a perfect combination.
Such a dazzling presence was hard to hide, and many who had admired Mu Jin’s looks now wanted to engage with him more. Some even braved Yan Yang’s intimidating stares to chat with Mu Jin occasionally.
While Mu Jin remained polite, the boy beside him was boiling with jealousy. Yan Yang was the first to realize he might need to work harder to keep his beloved from being taken away by someone else.
Over the next few days, Mu Jin noticed that Yan Yang no longer slumped over his desk during class or aimlessly dawdled to play with him. Instead, he sat up straight, paying close attention to the teachers and even flipping through his textbooks during breaks.
Knowing Yan Yang’s habits, Mu Jin figured that his exam score must have put some pressure on him. However, Mu Jin didn’t explain further, as he saw it as a good thing for Yan Yang to improve his grades. After all, he had plans to eventually take Yan Yang away from the Yan family, and having some extra knowledge would be beneficial for managing the Mu family’s business.
After a few peaceful days at school, Mu Jin was quite content. He was always one to go with the flow, especially when he could be with his lover.
To him, being together from morning till night was a source of immense joy. After all, the most important thing was to be by his lover’s side.
But even the most peaceful days can face disruptions. During gym class, Mu Jin and Yan Yang were paired together.
The class had an odd number of students, and Yan Yang had always worked alone. Once Mu Jin joined, it evened out the pairs, so no one found it strange that they were partnered.
However, after Mu Jin’s exam results were announced, he became much more popular. Most students at Saintlin Academy came from prestigious backgrounds, and their friendships were often based on personality, looks, and grades.
Despite his attempts to stay low-key, Mu Jin’s excellent personality, looks, and academic performance made him impossible to hide.
Many of the girls who initially admired his looks now saw him as an ideal friend and flocked to partner with him.
Seeing more girls approaching his side, Yan Yang’s face grew increasingly dark. Mu Jin, noticing his lover’s mood, skillfully deflected the advances and eventually managed to calm Yan Yang down.
While Yan Yang and Mu Jin’s days were becoming more enjoyable, their classmate Qi Xi had had enough.
Qi Xi had always found little ways to bother Yan Yang, and Mu Jin was aware of this. However, Qi Xi’s tactics were rather childish, so Mu Jin easily blocked them without retaliating.
Through 003, Mu Jin learned that Yan Xiao had already talked seriously with Qi Xi, explaining that his relationship with Yan Yang wasn’t as bad as it seemed. However, Qi Xi didn’t believe him, dismissing Yan Xiao’s words as mere excuses, further fueling his dislike for Yan Yang.
Thinking back to earlier in the school hallway, when Yan Yang had accidentally bumped into him, Qi Xi saw it as a clear sign of provocation. He always viewed Yan Yang through a negative lens, never considering that the narrow hallway made it easy to bump into someone unintentionally.
He and his friends began planning to teach Yan Yang a lesson, unaware that Mu Jin, who was always watching, had already seen through their plan.
Rubbing his temples, Mu Jin felt increasingly annoyed by the overexcited but not particularly bright tall boy. It seemed like it was time to give him a memorable lesson.
The school’s sports field was large, with multiple classes often having gym class at the same time. On this day, Yan Yang and Mu Jin’s class shared the field with a first-year class, which included Yan Lexin. The two classes weren’t far from each other.
Yan Lexin and Yan Yang didn’t greet each other, given their strained relationship. However, Yan Lexin couldn’t help but glance at Mu Jin a few times, finding him oddly familiar but unable to remember where she had seen him before.
After completing the paired activities, students gathered for a group activity. Most had removed their jackets due to the exercise and had placed them under the basketball hoop.
At this moment, a slim boy ran over and bumped into Yan Yang, but he quickly apologized. Yan Yang didn’t pursue the matter.
However, Mu Jin noticed the boy’s movements, enhanced by soul power, and could easily see through the tricks. He saw what the boy had placed in Yan Yang’s pocket, deftly removed it, and discreetly returned it to Qi Xi’s pocket with a subtle use of soul power.
Not long after, when the group activity ended, the students returned to the basketball hoop to retrieve their jackets.
Qi Xi picked up his jacket and immediately cried out, “Hey! My badge is gone! The one I had in my pocket!”
The badge in question might seem unremarkable to most people, but it was actually a family heirloom with the Qi family’s insignia. Since Qi Xi was the first child of the Qi family’s main branch, this badge signified his status, and losing it would be quite problematic.
Qi Xi pretended to search for a while and then complained that he still couldn’t find it. As soon as the words left his mouth, someone immediately stood up next to him and pointed at Yan Yang. In front of everyone, he said, “I think I just saw Yan Yang walk over here and hang around by this pile of clothes for a while. It’s very possible that he was the one who took it.”
All eyes turned toward Yan Yang. He frowned at the accusations. Although he was known for his temper and wasn’t very popular, accusing him of theft was a serious accusation.
Yan Yang, known for his short fuse, felt his anger rising. Hearing people accuse him, while others looked at him with suspicion, made him want to punch Qi Xi.
But he didn’t want to frighten his little cat, so he suppressed his anger and gritted out, “It wasn’t me!”
“How can you prove it wasn’t you? Someone saw you hanging around these jackets!” Qi Xi’s friends insisted, sticking to their accusation. Nearby first-year students were also curious about the commotion and gathered around to see what was happening.
Yan Lexin, who was close to the basketball hoop, had been listening to the entire incident. Her gym class was relatively relaxed, so she had been standing near the basketball hoop, knowing that Yan Yang hadn’t come near this area.
When she heard someone accuse Yan Yang again, Yan Lexin didn’t hesitate to step forward, saying, “You’re lying! Yan Yang never came over here. I saw him on the other side of the field, far from this spot.”
Yan Yang was surprised to hear Yan Lexin’s voice. He couldn’t believe that the sister who usually didn’t get along with him would defend him.
Yan Lexin, noticing Yan Yang’s skeptical look, rolled her eyes in annoyance. She muttered to herself that if she hadn’t seen him from this angle, she wouldn’t have bothered to stand up for him.
