Solo Part…
Qiao Huaiyao recalled the words he had said during the recording; everything seemed fine. If there were any issues, he would have informed the program team to cut them out in advance. But since the video had been downloaded, he decided to see how the program team edited it.
While watching the video, Qiao Huaiyao split his phone screen into two, organizing the audio on one side while playing the video on the other.
He had initially been casually waiting for the video to finish.
However, as the video reached the middle, he clearly heard the words he had said in front of the camera, “Having him is enough for me.”
Qiao Huaiyao: “???”
His fingertips trembled, and he paused the video.
Sitting on the neatly laid-out bed, Qiao Huaiyao’s body stiffened.
He couldn’t believe his ears and sat up, enlarging the screen on the video’s side.
He confirmed that the words were indeed there.
But, why were they not cut out? Not only were they not cut, but the background music was intentionally muted when this sentence played. The music suddenly stopped, making his words stand out even more clearly.
Qiao Huaiyao: “…”
He suddenly regretted not previewing the recording. If the video had been released one day earlier, he would have never agreed to participate!
Annoyed and embarrassed, Qiao Huaiyao buried his head in the blanket, wishing he could grab the director’s collar and make him delete that segment.
Suddenly, Qiao Huaiyao lifted his head and grabbed the nearby phone, typing rapidly.
Qiao Huaiyao: [Brother! Brother! Brother! Did you watch the teaser video the program team released?]
Rarely, after sending the message, there was no immediate reply from Bai Jinyan.
Qiao Huaiyao: [Brother, (cat with a pout.jpg)]
Even after sending an emoji, there was still no response. Qiao Huaiyao felt a little puzzled. If his brother had left the restaurant, he would have definitely messaged him. Since he hadn’t, he must still be in the restaurant.
Could he be sleeping?
But they had just ended the video call not long ago.
How could he fall asleep so quickly?
Did something happen to him?
Qiao Huaiyao furrowed his brows and started to feel anxious. He quickly sent Bai Jinyan a video call. The video call rang three times, and just as Qiao Huaiyao was about to hang up and call Bai Jinyan through regular phone call, he picked up.
Qiao Huaiyao asked anxiously, “Brother… Are you okay…?” His words stopped abruptly as he saw the foggy mist in Bai Jinyan’s background.
Bai Jinyan was only wearing a bathrobe, and his hair still had some uncleaned foam.
The collar of his robe was loose, and water was flowing from his neck, soaking it.
“Brother, I…” Qiao Huaiyao stammered and stumbled, unable to speak coherently.
Despite the distance between them, it felt as if he could sense the warmth and moisture from the bathroom, making his heart race.
Bai Jinyan brought the phone into the bathroom and casually rinsed his hair.
He asked, “What’s wrong?”
Qiao Huaiyao pursed his lips and lowered his voice, “Nothing, you didn’t reply to my messages, and I was worried if something happened in the restaurant…”
Bai Jinyan wiped his hair with a towel and looked up at Qiao Huaiyao on the video call.
He was sitting up straight but leaning his head forward, appearing distressed as if he had done something wrong.
Bai Jinyan didn’t say anything. Qiao Huaiyao felt somewhat annoyed and uneasy with the silence. Just as he was about to say something, his phone vibrated twice.
Qiao Huaiyao subconsciously glanced at it and found a message from Bai Jinyan.
Bai Jinyan: [Pat the cat’s head, jpg]
Qiao Huaiyao was stunned, looking at the lively emoji in the chat box. His tense heart seemed to relax slightly.
Bai Jinyan casually explained, “I was taking a shower. I’ll be more attentive next time.”
As soon as he put down his phone, Bai Jinyan assumed Qiao Huaiyao would rest and didn’t keep his eyes on the phone. Hearing this, it seemed like he took the blame on himself.
Qiao Huaiyao: “No, I…”
“Do you need something from me?” Bai Jinyan checked the chat records and felt a bit anxious in his voice.
“I haven’t watched that video yet. What’s wrong? Do you want me to watch it?” Bai Jinyan opened the video and minimized it while waiting for Qiao Huaiyao to speak and find out what went wrong in the video.
“No!” Qiao Huaiyao blinked his eyes and suddenly remembered why he had contacted Bai Jinyan in the first place. “Uh, no need to watch it now.”
He hesitated and thought, “Just my solo part in the video, I feel like there’s a problem. Don’t watch it now; wait for the director to take it down and re-edit it, then you can watch it.”
As soon as he finished speaking, there was no response from the other end.
Bai Jinyan’s eyes didn’t blink, and from Qiao Huaiyao’s perspective, it was like experiencing an internet lag.
“Brother?” Qiao Huaiyao tried to check the internet connection, but he was using the dormitory’s Wi-Fi, and the signal was strong.
He waved his hand in front of the camera, saying, “Brother, is the internet lagging?”
“No.” Bai Jinyan adjusted the video position and clipped the part Qiao Huaiyao mentioned.
Bai Jinyan watched the clipped segment, feeling a bit dissatisfied.
He decided to download the entire video. Hesitating for a moment, he saved the whole video to the cloud, not feeling secure with the previous clips.
Then he said, “It’s too late today, and Zhao Jiamo goes to bed early. Let him look at it tomorrow.” “Okay.”
If someone else had seen it, it was fine, but if Bai Jinyan saw it… just thinking about that possibility made Qiao Huaiyao feel hot behind his ears.
Bai Jinyan got up and said, “I’ll change my clothes. You should rest early too. We have military training early tomorrow. I’ll hang up now.”
“Mm, okay.” Qiao Huaiyao responded, and Bai Jinyan didn’t hang up immediately after saying goodbye.
After Qiao Huaiyao pressed the hang-up button, the video call ended.
Qiao Huaiyao took off his earphones. “Qiu Shufeng? What did you say just now?”
Since Qiao Huaiyao joined the video, Qiu Shufeng had kept a distance and remained silent.
Hearing the question, he leaned over and said teasingly, “You were having a video call with your brother? You two have a lot of affection. You call him more frequently than I do with my brother.”
Qiao Huaiyao: “…Between brothers, it’s normal to occasionally have a video call.”
Qiu Shufeng hadn’t spoken yet when Yu Luofan added, “I video call and argue with my brother whenever we meet. Our video call frequency is indeed much higher.”
Qiao Huaiyao didn’t want to continue the topic.
He asked nonchalantly, “Did you call me just now?”
Qiu Shufeng nodded and said, “We were lining up to wash up, and we all agreed that you should go last.”
Hot water in the dormitory wasn’t available all day, and it wasn’t replenished at night either.
The further back you were in line, the colder the water would be.
If the people in front used too much water, the ones at the back might end up washing their faces with cold water.
But!
“Xuesheng Notes”
Qiao Huaiyao knew about the hot water situation, so he said, “Then, let’s go together; I’m not in a hurry.”
