Chapter 10 – Interview
The host was immediately stunned when she heard this, seeing Bai Jinyan’s serious expression, without any hint of joking.
She instantly understood the audience in the live broadcast room.
To prepare for this Q&A session, she had watched a lot of the live barrage beforehand.
While watching, she found it strange that even though Qiao Huaiyao and Bai Jinyan appeared together for the first time in the live broadcast, the audience in the chat room was so enthusiastic about their CP.
But after she finished watching the live broadcast, all the questions were answered.
Bai Jinyan was a top star in the entertainment industry, known for his dominant presence. Not to mention coaxing you sweetly and nicely, even a single look from him would make you reflect on whether you had done anything wrong.
And looking at how Bai Jinyan treated Qiao Huaiyao, it was clear that he had a clear bias and preference for her.
Who wouldn’t ship them after seeing that!
The host covered her mouth, suppressing her amusement with professional composure, and said, “Alright, let’s end our questions here for today. Thank you for your hard work.”
They didn’t have many questions to choose from, not because there were few barrage messages, but because the barrage was either about shipping the CP or filled with endearing nicknames for the two. It was really hard to find any useful questions among them!
They really wondered why a family variety show had drifted into a romance-themed show.
But fortunately, the effect was still good.
Next, there would be a solo part focusing on the celebrities’ family members, and the host gestured for the cameraman to bring the person in.
Other celebrities had selected family members with interesting stories to ask questions, but Bai Jinyan’s segment only featured Qiao Huaiyao.
Qiao Huaiyao came in and sat in the chair Bai Jinyan had occupied earlier. The cushion on the chair fit perfectly behind his waist, making his sitting posture look very proper.
The host smiled at him and said, “Are you ready? There are only a few questions. If you have any objections to the questions, feel free to raise them, and the production team will make adjustments.”
Qiao Huaiyao nodded, “Okay.”
The host asked the first question, “Could you please describe Bai Jinyan from your perspective?”
“Um…” Qiao Huaiyao hesitated a bit with the first question, as he hadn’t really described Bai Jinyan in such a specific way before.
After a moment of internal struggle, he softly said, “He’s the most even-tempered person I’ve ever met.”
The host widened his eyes instantly, thinking, “What did you just say???”
The cameraman holding the equipment was also startled, and he steadied the device in a hurry, considering its expensive price.
Bai Jinyan has a good temper?
This joke was a bit too cold!
Qiao Huaiyao didn’t notice their reactions and immersed himself in his thoughts, “I’ve never seen him lose his temper, not even when I distanced myself from him before.”
The host: “…”
Indeed, he never loses his temper, that’s true.
Just one look from him makes your heart tremble, who would dare provoke him to anger.
The answer to this question was completely unexpected.
The host asked again, “Do you think Bai Jinyan has any shortcomings?”
Qiao Huaiyao shook his head and succinctly said, “None.”
The host was taken aback, thinking, “Ah, what should I ask next?”
When recording material with other guests, most of their family members could mention some small flaws of the celebrities.
Qiao Huaiyao’s resolute response left him with no further questions.
The director had high hopes for this question, hoping to get some interesting materials to take back, but it seemed that his expectations might go unfulfilled.
The host thought for a moment and didn’t dwell on this question. He asked, “Outside, the public’s impression of Bai Jinyan is mostly that he is not good with words, has a cold personality, and doesn’t seem to have many close friends in the industry. What’s your take on this?”
Qiao Huaiyao smiled and with a hint of teasing in his tone, he said, “He has me, and that’s enough.”
The host exclaimed, “Huh?”
Qiao Huaiyao cleared his throat and explained calmly, “What I mean is… having me as a friend is enough for him.”
After the solo segment recording, it was already past nine in the evening.
When Qiao Huaiyao came out, he saw Bai Jinyan sitting on the sofa, “Brother, why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
Bai Jinyan stood up and said, “I have a commercial shoot tomorrow, so I might come back very late.”
His tone was casual, as if he had waited in the living room for so long just to inform Qiao Huaiyao about his work schedule for tomorrow.
“Okay.” Qiao Huaiyao nodded, then hesitated for a moment, “What about the variety show?”
Bai Jinyan replied, “It won’t clash with the commercial shoot. They can overlap the airing of the variety show with the commercial. The variety show will be aired first, and it’ll just document some of the process, which will also generate some popularity for the commercial product.”
Qiao Huaiyao nodded, “Rest early, goodnight, Brother.”
“Goodnight.”
The next day.
When Qiao Huaiyao woke up, it was already noon.
Bai Jinyan wasn’t home. Though he wasn’t sure when he had left, he guessed it must have been very early to go to work.
Qiao Huaiyao lay in bed playing with his phone, not in a hurry to get up.
Since Bai Jinyan wouldn’t be back until late, he didn’t see the need to rush downstairs early when he had nothing to do.
He was pulled into a large group, where all his classmates from the same major and class were present, including freshmen and seniors. The group was always lively and bustling with activity.
Many clubs had already started recruiting members in the group, creating a sense of urgency as if there was a competition to join.
While checking some campus guidelines in the group’s files, the doorbell rang outside.
Qiao Huaiyao’s fingers paused, thinking it might be Bai Jinyan returning early. He quickly got up and ran downstairs.
As he opened the door, he was about to call out “Brother,” but in that split second, he realized that the person standing at the door was not Bai Jinyan.
His delighted smile froze on his face.
Seeing Qiao Huaiyao’s expression change, the live chat room burst into laughter.
Barrage: [“Hahaha, the smile gradually disappears.”]
[“Tsk, I wasn’t expecting Bai Jinyan, I swear.”]
[“They’ve been apart for only a short time, and it’s already like this?! Okay, it’s confirmed, it’s a two-way crush.”]
The delivery person handed the takeaway bag to Qiao Huaiyao and said, “Hello, this is a takeaway ordered by a Mr. Bai. Please sign for it.”
Qiao Huaiyao thanked him and took the takeaway.
Barrage: [“???”]
[“I came to watch the variety show, not eat dog food. Why are you guys doing this in broad daylight!”]
[“I’ll grab a slipper and hit my boyfriend who’s still sleeping.”]
The takeaway bag had an exquisite logo on it, looking like a folded paper bag, but it felt very high-quality when touched.
Inside, each item was neatly sealed in small boxes. Though the portions were not large, they filled up almost half of a small table.
Qiao Huaiyao picked up the food and started eating, leaving a few pieces unfinished.
He held a cup of hot orange juice and took small sips.
Just then, the director called.
Qiao Huaiyao answered the call, and the voice on the other end was chaotic. Then he heard the director shouting, “Hello? Is this Qiao Huaiyao?”
“Yes,” Qiao Huaiyao asked, “What’s the matter?”
The director chuckled, “You’re awake. Good, your task today is to deliver lunch to the working stars. Get ready.”
Qiao Huaiyao was taken aback, “Lunch?”
“Yes, other families prepare lunch with love, so you can also consider doing that,” the director said.
Qiao Huaiyao’s lips twitched; he only had one brother, and he didn’t want to poison him with his own cooking.
“I’ll just buy a loving lunch for my brother…” Considering that Bai Jinyan rarely ate outside, especially takeaway, and that Bai Jinyan’s lunch was specially prepared, Qiao Huaiyao thought for a moment and said, “Maybe a cake.”
Having had lunch, an afternoon tea would be nice too—
Qiao Huaiyao didn’t know where Bai Jinyan was shooting the commercial, but fortunately, the program team had prepared a car for him.
He didn’t need to tell the destination; the driver would take him there.
The cakes were packaged in small boxes, and the cream on them could easily get damaged in a hot environment, affecting their appearance though not their taste.
So, Qiao Huaiyao decided not to place them in the empty seat beside him but held them in his arms.
Watching the scenery outside rapidly moving backward, the car finally stopped outside a tall building.
Entering the elevator, the photographer reminded him, “The commercial shoot is on the seventeenth floor.”
“Okay.”
Stepping out of the elevator, he immediately noticed a staff member standing at the entrance.
The staff member glanced at the photographer carrying equipment behind Qiao Huaiyao and asked cautiously, “May I ask who you are…”
Qiao Huaiyao said, “I am Bai Jinyan’s brother. I came to deliver some food to him.”
The staff member didn’t respond immediately and wasn’t sure whether to believe him or not, as there were many fans of Bai Jinyan outside, and they couldn’t be sure of Qiao Huaiyao’s identity.
Seeing this, the photographer took out his work ID and said, “We’re from the Love Family Team. We’ve signed a contract with your director.”
The staff member carefully examined the ID. He was aware that Bai Jinyan had a photographer around him.
After confirming that the ID was genuine, the staff member quickly said, “Sorry, our director doesn’t like leaks, so we’re quite strict about this aspect.”
Qiao Huaiyao said, “I understand.”
Signing a contract with the variety show was the only cooperation before the advertisement aired. If there were any leaks, the advertising party would likely be in breach of contract, which would be troublesome to handle.
Qiao Huaiyao asked, “Can you take me to see my brother?”
The staff member replied, “He’s in the set room and can’t be disturbed right now. Let me take you to the rest area. He’ll come back here after he’s done.”
“Okay, thank you.”
The staff member smiled and said, “You’re welcome. Follow me.”
He made a ‘please‘ gesture with his hand and walked ahead, leading the way.
Bai Jinyan’s rest area was quite spacious.
As they entered, there was a horizontal makeup table. On the left wall, there was a small door.
Inside was a bed, giving it the appearance of a hotel room at first glance.
The entire rest area had a presidential suite feel to it.
Qiao Huaiyao found a spot on the makeup table and took out the dessert he brought. Cream was prone to melting in a hot environment, so he couldn’t keep it in the bag for too long.
It was still early, and he didn’t know when Bai Jinyan would finish filming.
Since he had time on his hands, Qiao Huaiyao took out his phone and opened the live stream, thinking about chatting with the viewers in the chat room.
Barrage: [“Ah, ah, ah! Wife, look at me! kisses“]
[“Bai Jinyan is really too much! How can he leave his wife alone in the rest area? If it were me, I would never leave my wife’s side.”]
[“Wife, I’m here in the live stream, and he saw my comment! He likes me serious face.jpg“]
…
No matter how many times Qiao Huaiyao saw those terms of endearment, he found it hard to handle. He cleared his throat and said, “Just call me by my name.”
The barrage refused.
[“It’s impossible. I will die here today, but I must let out one last cry: Wife!!!”]
[“Wife, wife, wife…”]
[“By the way, how old is your wife? Calling Bai Jinyan ‘Brother’ makes him seem quite young. Is he an adult?”]
The viewers in the live stream were quite rebellious.
Qiao Huaiyao rested his chin on one hand and lightly tapped the table with his finger. “I’m nineteen this year.”
Barrage: [“Only nineteen? D*mn! I like him even more now.”]
[“Wife, don’t struggle. Close the windows, I’m not going by ordinary methods lewd face.jpg“]
[“Wife, don’t mind them. They’re all pretending, but I’m the only one who is real licks screen.jpg“]
