The Unwanted Disabled Kitty Just Wants Some Love – Chapter 7

Jian Xun suddenly widened his eyes and looked up at Shang Xuci in disbelief.

Shang Xuci’s gaze fell on his cousin. “I can cover its living expenses.”

Shen Huan, knowing her cousin wasn’t short on money and was generous with her, immediately responded, “This little kitten is very well-behaved. I really like it and would love to adopt it, but…”

Before she could finish her sentence, the little white cat struggled and jumped off her lap.

The movement was so sudden that Jian Xun nearly stumbled as he landed on the floor. He looked at Shen Huan, then at Shang Xuci, his expression heartbroken. Walking on three legs, he left behind a pitiful and sorrowful figure, his small body swaying as he crawled into his cardboard cat box.

It wasn’t just his legs that were hurt—his heart was, too.

“Oh my god, did it understand what we were saying?”

Shang Xuci shook his head. If cats could understand human language, wouldn’t that make them spirits? The cat he picked up didn’t even know how to use a litter box.

Unwilling to give up, Shen Huan pulled out the cat teaser wand she always carried with her. She squatted in front of the cardboard box and said, “Kitty, can you understand Auntie? Come out, Auntie will play with you.”

Whether it could understand or not, she felt the little cat was definitely upset.

Turning around, she continued the sentence she had left unfinished with Shang Xuci. “You know my house has a lot of cats, and those little brats aren’t exactly friendly. I’m worried the original residents won’t accept him, and I don’t want the little white cat to be bullied.”

There was another important reason—she sensed that the kitten was very attached to Shang Xuci. Even a single word from her cousin could affect its emotions. Maybe it already saw him as family.

But she also understood her cousin’s situation. Regardless of whether he liked cats or not, his health was poor, and he could end up in the hospital at any time. Taking care of a cat required attention and effort, and he really wasn’t suited for it.

Shen Huan glanced sympathetically at the cardboard box, sat back down on the sofa, and said softly, “I have a lot of friends who love cats. The little white one is so well-behaved—I’m sure many people would want to adopt him. I’ll help you ask around.”

“Alright,” Shang Xuci replied. Worst case scenario, if he really couldn’t adapt, he could just buy a house just for the cat and hire someone to take care of it full-time. With his current assets, he could support this cat for several hundred lifetimes.

Jian Xun curled up in the cardboard box in self-imposed isolation, completely unaware of the tycoon’s plans. He was simply heartbroken. He had already made it into the man’s house, yet he still might be kicked out.

Wuwu (sob), his mission had failed before it even began.

That afternoon, Shen Huan personally demonstrated how to get along with a cat.

Unfortunately, Jian Xun wasn’t very interested.

He was afraid this woman would take him away.

And even more afraid that Shang Xuci didn’t want him.

He cooperated, yes—but listlessly, playing with the toys half-heartedly.

At dinner, there were three dishes and a soup on the table, all custom-made by a chef and delivered specifically for Shang Xuci. The taste was bland—neither salty nor sweet. The food couldn’t be called delicious by any stretch.

Thankfully, her cousin personally brought her a plate of dessert. Shen Huan had tasted it before—it was on par with what top-tier pastry chefs could make! Satisfied by the sweets, she didn’t linger. She had just returned today, and her little cats at home were waiting for her to cuddle them.

It had been a while—she missed her kitties.

After Shen Huan left, only one person and one cat remained in the house.

Shang Xuci went to the kitchen; the little white cat followed. He went to the balcony; the cat followed. He went to the bathroom; the cat sat at the door.

It suddenly became clingy.

Eventually, Shang Xuci went to his study to work.

As soon as he stood up, the white cat immediately followed at his heels. It didn’t meow or try to sneak into the study—just stopped obediently at the doorway, waiting for him to close the door.

It sat down at the threshold, tail tucked under its little paws, staring blankly at the door.

Shang Xuci began working in the study. He opened his computer to review a new contract, but after reading just two lines, he couldn’t focus.

Fingering the pen in his hand, Shang Xuci’s gaze shifted toward the door.

Was that cat still sitting there?

He rubbed his temples, then got up and opened the door.

Jian Xun, who had been lowering his head to stare at his paws, heard the door creak open. Thinking he was in the way, he silently crab-walked a step to the side.

“Meow.”

A soft little sound.

“Come in.”

Shang Xuci sat back down at his desk. The kitten followed him in, eyes bright, mood instantly lifted.

It carefully curled up by his feet, hugging its tail.

Shang Xuci thought about getting a blanket for it, but the moment he moved, the kitten stirred, lifting its head to look at him in confusion.

He gently placed the blanket on the floor.

The kitten was so touched by the thoughtful gesture that it began kneading the blanket non-stop, purring happily.

From time to time, while napping, the kitten would flick its tail. Its soft, fluffy tail would occasionally brush against his calf—like a swaying piece of foxtail grass blown by a breeze.

Shang Xuci focused on his work, but during breaks, he would glance down at the cat.

The little white cat slept deeply in an unbelievably contorted position—like a stretched bow. Its front paws were curled over its head, toes splayed like flower petals.

It lay beside him in the softest, most vulnerable posture—completely unguarded. A strange but satisfying sense of warmth and joy welled up in Shang Xuci’s heart.

Over the next few days, Jian Xun stuck to Shang Xuci like a shadow—just close enough to maintain a polite “cat-like” distance. He followed him everywhere, and their bond grew slightly stronger. But deep down, Jian Xun still felt uneasy.

The little cat never forgot what Shang Xuci had said to Shen Huan—that he might send him away.

He lived in constant anxiety, always on alert to see if Shang Xuci had contacted Shen Huan.

Finally, on a sunny afternoon, he overheard Shang Xuci making a phone call on the balcony—the topic was about cats.

Shang Xuci brought out the pet carrier and lined it with a pee pad and a cashmere blanket. Jian Xun hid nearby, secretly watching, his body trembling.

Were they taking him away?

Did Shang Xuci not want him anymore?

Had he not behaved well these past few days?

Wasn’t he a good kitty?

Jian Xun was highly sensitive and stared at the carrier with intense wariness.

He didn’t want to go in!

Shang Xuci didn’t notice the cat’s reaction. After preparing the carrier, he didn’t immediately pick up the cat. Instead, he went to the bedroom. When he came back out, he found the little white cat had crawled into the cardboard box. He squatted down and reached out his hand.

“Come out.”

Jian Xun couldn’t resist his command. Gathering his courage, he wobbled out, staring at the man’s long, slender fingers. After hesitating for two seconds, he timidly pressed his little kitty head against his fingertip.

“Meow.”

Please… don’t send me away.

For once, Shang Xuci gently stroked him—from head to rump.

Jian Xun immediately flopped onto the floor, belly up, exposing his soft little tummy as he let out a pitiful mewl.

“Myaaa~ meow meow meow—”

You can pet my belly.

Please don’t make me leave, okay?

I just want to be your kitty.

I don’t want to live in someone else’s house.

If I fail my mission, I’ll… I’ll…?

What would happen if he failed the mission? The old man hadn’t told him. But he had worked so hard for this second chance at life. He didn’t want to be disliked again. He didn’t want to be abandoned.

Shang Xuci had treated him well. Even if he didn’t like cats, he still took good care of him. Aside from not being allowed in the bedroom, even with his cleanliness obsession, he still cleaned up after him. Jian Xun had also behaved—he didn’t mess with anything, groomed himself regularly, even wiped water off the sink. He knew the big boss didn’t like cuddles, so he kept his distance…

Jian Xun couldn’t understand—hadn’t they been getting along just fine these past few days?

When Shang Xuci rubbed his belly, the little white cat’s face scrunched up with sorrow, and his big, watery eyes looked even more aggrieved.

Ignoring the cat’s pitiful expression, Shang Xuci gently picked him up and placed him in the carrier. Just as he was about to close the door, the cat reached out with his soft pink paw pads and pressed them against Shang Xuci’s fingers.

“Meow meow meow,” Jian Xun pleaded, lying in the carrier, gazing into his eyes with a heartbroken look as if begging him in words:

I’m sorry. If you don’t like it, I won’t go into the study anymore.

I’m sorry. I won’t bite the bandage on your leg again and make you change it every day.

I’m sorry. I’ll stay quietly in the living room and stop thinking about sneaking into your bedroom.

I’m sorry. I’ll eat less, and try to poop less every day.

He had no choice—his activity was confined indoors, and the only place to use the bathroom was the litter box. Every time he saw the man frown while cleaning it, he felt deeply ashamed.

But this time, Shang Xuci didn’t pet him again. Cold and emotionless, he closed the cage.

Wuwuwu…

Jian Xun reached out a paw to push the door, but the cold metal grate didn’t budge. Shang Xuci’s back grew farther and farther away from his outstretched paw, as if it would never be within reach again.

When Shang Xuci carried the pet carrier out the door, Jian Xun curled into a ball, hugging his tail. His drooping ears flattened into airplane ears, and he buried his head into his chest, trying to comfort himself.

It hurt so much.

He wasn’t likable as a human.

He wasn’t likable as a cat either.

I’m sorry.

I’m not a good kitty.
