The Protagonist Pursues Me Relentlessly – Chapter 3

[Ru Geng Zai Hou (Jie Tuo Zhe): Didn’t you run away? Why did you come back? If you can’t fight, then just AFK properly and don’t come out to deceive others!]

Jiang Mo had just logged in when he was greeted with another wave of verbal abuse.

Jiang Mo stuttered even when speaking to people face-to-face—there was no way he could hurl insults in a game chat.

The internet was a hostile place, and Jiang Mo had encountered countless situations like this while playing ranked. Arguing was pointless; matters of the game should be resolved within the game itself.

Ignoring the insults, Jiang Mo turned his attention to analyzing the match.

While Lu Yu had been AFK, their team had fallen into a disadvantage—but not a critical one. It wasn’t as dire as [Ru Geng Zai Hou] made it out to be. Lu Yu had been helping him gank lanes but had neglected the others. Still, the top and bottom lanes had managed to hold the line. No kills secured, not many deaths either.

Neither the top nor bottom laners had blamed the jungler. So how did this mid laner, who had benefited multiple times from Lu Yu, have the nerve to flame him?

Lu Yu had picked Viego as his jungle champion. Back when Jiang Mo was on the team, jungle was his main role—and Viego was one of his signature picks.

Using the gold accumulated during the AFK time, Jiang Mo upgraded his gear. The enemy’s items were better than his, so a reckless engage was out of the question. He hadn’t even stepped out of base when a small skirmish erupted in mid lane.

The AD carry stayed in the back to deal damage but got caught by the enemy Lee Sin’s combo and was instantly taken out. The support who was trying to protect the AD was also eliminated. [Ru Geng Zai Hou] saw the tide turning and immediately retreated under their turret without hesitation.

Their top laner Ornn didn’t last more than a few seconds on the frontline before he got melted, but before dying, he managed to unleash his ultimate and knock up two enemy champions. Jiang Mo carefully flanked through the brush and activated his Black Mist. With a well-timed dash, he locked down the enemy’s half-HP AD carry. The knocked-up enemies failed to protect their ADC in time, and Viego executed him in one clean combo.

Viego’s passive allows him to possess a dead enemy champion and become untargetable during the transition. Jiang Mo used the passive to dodge incoming enemy skills and transformed into the slain champion—Vayne.

From the perspective of his dying teammates, they could only watch as a squishy ADC darted around the battlefield, skillfully dodging enemy attacks. With precise positioning and attack moves, he swiftly took down the enemy Lee Sin. Viego’s ult came crashing down again—he transformed into Lee Sin.

With a precise Q, he kicked the hidden Twisted Fate out of the bush. A full combo and an ultimate to dodge the gold card sealed Twisted Fate’s fate. The enemy had only a half-HP Nautilus support and a low-HP Camille top laner left. Viego’s passive let him dodge both of their attempts at an engage. He transformed into Twisted Fate, and the moment he emerged, he dropped another ult, abandoning Twisted Fate’s body and slicing down the weakened top laner.

While Jiang Mo was executing this mechanical display, [Ru Geng Zai Hou] was still hiding under the turret, trash-talking him. But seeing the tides turn, he abruptly stopped typing and rushed over, flashing through a wall, clearly hoping to pick off the last remaining enemy support.

Jiang Mo didn’t give him a chance. One Q—clean kill. Final blow.

PentaKill

Teammates spammed 666, flooding the comments section with [Ru Geng Zai Hou]‘s remarks.

[Ru Geng Zai Hou] couldn’t accept it.

[Ru Geng Zai Hou (The Freed One): They were all low on health when you went in. All you know how to do is kill-steal.]

[Hentui (Ornn):LMAO. You flashed in and still didn’t get the kill—who are you calling a kill-stealer?]

[Yue Mingxing Xi (Caitlyn): You’ve been ranting for almost ten minutes. Aren’t you tired? You run the fastest when the fight starts and rush the hardest for kills, and now you’re mad because you didn’t get one?]

What Jiang Mo didn’t know was that Lu Yu occasionally streamed games on the side. He’d been into gaming since college, but unfortunately, his skill level was average and his personality didn’t attract much of an audience.

He only needed to stream for forty hours a month. Whenever he played, he’d just leave the stream running. After several years, he’d barely gathered 8,000 followers, and usually only a few people would be watching live.

A few of his long-time viewers were dozing off in the nearly empty chat room—until the sudden PentaKill announcement snapped them awake.

[“WTF—you actually pulled off a pentakill? I’ve been following you for over a year and you can barely get a triple kill. Have you been secretly training?!”]

[“This Sylas is toxic: Getting carried and still flaming people. Can’t even beat a 0/2 Twisted Fate, then tries to flash in and steal a kill. I’m speechless!”]

[“The streamer’s dog avatar is so cute: Clicked in thinking you were a Shiba Inu, turns out you’re a Tibetan Mastiff—1v5 and clutching like a beast. Instant follow!”]

The stream overlay wasn’t turned on, so Jiang Mo had no idea that a few viewers had just followed the channel.

That small team fight had pulled the team back into the game. Jiang Mo had taken down two champions with bounty gold, and his gear had caught up to the enemy’s.

With Ornn’s coordination up top, it didn’t matter how much [Ru Geng Zai Hou] tried to throw the game—Jiang Mo wasn’t having a hard time. If they kept up the pace, they were definitely going to win this match.

Jiang Mo’s clutch performance had thoroughly slapped [Ru Geng Zai Hou] in the face. With the rest of the team piling on him too, the guy finally shut up and started playing seriously. Still, his skill level was clearly lacking—he couldn’t even beat the enemy Twisted Fate after Lu Yu helped him three times.

Another small team fight broke out, ending with a four-kill streak from Viego. The team pushed down the enemy’s mid tier-two turret and pinged Jiang Mo to come help with Baron.

But Jiang Mo pressed the recall button.

Then he typed something into all chat.

[Met You (Viego):Sorry, I don’t want to play anymore.]

[hentui (Ornn): We’re doing fine—why stop now?]

[Met You (Viego): He insulted my mom. I don’t want to let him win.]

Jiang Mo stated the reason plainly.

[hentui (Ornn): …]

[Met You (Viego): Add me after the match, okay? I’ll help you win three ranked games as compensation. I’m really sorry QAQ]

[Met You (Viego): Truly sorry QAQ]

[hentui (Ornn): It’s okay, don’t apologize. He’s the one at fault!]

In the livestream chat:

[“LOL what a cutie—how can someone sound both sweet and fierce at the same time?”]

[“Top laner’s right. It was that guy’s fault. If it were me, I would’ve gone AFK ages ago. You don’t need to apologize!”]

[“Wait, what’s going on? The streamer’s not usually this soft-spoken!”]

“You’re really good at this game!” a voice suddenly sounded from behind, startling Jiang Mo. He turned around to see Lu Yu standing there.

When had Lu Yu come back? Jiang Mo hadn’t even heard a sound.

“B-Brother,” Jiang Mo apologized instinctively. “S-Sorry, I used your computer without asking…”

Lu Yu didn’t care about something that minor. He leaned an arm casually on the back of the gaming chair, a clear smile on his face.
“You should’ve told me earlier that you could game. We could duo sometime—carry your brother a bit, yeah?”

This was the first time Lu Yu had shown Jiang Mo genuine warmth—all because of that one sentence: He insulted my mom.

They’d been separated for nineteen years and barely knew each other. Lu Yu never believed that blood ties alone could magically create familial bonds. But when he saw Jiang Mo stand up to defend a family member, he was genuinely moved.

The bratty, defiant attitude Jiang Mo had shown earlier was probably just a defense mechanism—his way of coping with being suddenly thrust into an unfamiliar environment.

Now, the little hedgehog had retracted its spikes and revealed its soft belly underneath.

[“Wait, the insane 1v5 play earlier was actually from the streamer’s younger brother?! WTF—are they really brothers? Their skill levels are worlds apart!”]

[Lu Yu: Where’s your manners?]

[“Has he even hit puberty yet? His voice is so soft and squeaky—sounds like an elementary school kid. Damn, are kids these days that good at games?!”]

To avoid triggering the AFK warning, Jiang Mo kept his character moving along a solo lane and farming jungle camps, staying out of team fights.

Thanks to Jiang Mo holding things down, the other three teammates didn’t complain. They also agreed that [Ru Geng Zai Hou] had been way out of line with his insults.

But just when things had finally quieted down, [Ru Geng Zai Hou] blew up again.

[Ru Geng Zai Hou (Sylas): What the hell is wrong with you? Wanna bet I report your ass as soon as this is over?!]

In most cases, getting reported in a game would first result in a warning. Only in rare instances would it lead to a ban. Jiang Mo wasn’t worried about that. What he was worried about was whether Lu Yu would be upset.

“B-Brother, don’t worry, I-It won’t get the account banned,” Jiang Mo stammered as he tried to explain.

Lu Yu replied, “It’s fine. I know you’re just standing up for Mom. When you run into people like that, just AFK. No need to waste energy arguing.”

“But… but he called you trash too,” Jiang Mo said. “A-And he’s not even good at the game. What gives him the right to insult you?”

Lu Yu’s ears turned red. Was Jiang Mo defending him too—not just their mom?

What Jiang Mo didn’t say out loud was that he agreed with how Lu Yu handled it. But in his opinion, scum like that deserved a harsher punishment.

When reconnecting to the game earlier, Jiang Mo had looked up [Ru Geng Zai Hou]’s match history on his phone.

The guy had been grinding ranked all night and was pushing for Master rank. This match was his promo game—his make-or-break moment. A lopsided loss wouldn’t have been too big a deal. But losing a game that had seemed within reach? Now that stung.

Jiang Mo had done it on purpose. After all, someone with a mouth that foul needed a lesson.

[“Awwww he’s so cute! His voice is so soft and shaky—like he’s trembling! But when he was in-game, wasn’t he the one wrecking people left and right?!”]

[“LOL did anyone else catch that he said “also”? Even he thinks his brother’s bad at the game?”]

[Little brother: PentaKill alert. I won’t allow anyone to call my brother trash!]

In the end, they still lost the game. [Ru Geng Zai Hou] flew into a rage and spammed the post-game lobby with insults. He even tried to add Jiang Mo as a friend.

Jiang Mo glanced at Lu Yu, who shook his head. Jiang Mo rejected the friend request.

“Don’t bother with people like him,” Lu Yu said.

“Okay… then I-I’m going to bed now,” Jiang Mo replied obediently.

Just as he said that, fireworks suddenly exploded across the computer screen.

Jiang Mo froze, and even Lu Yu was caught off guard.

The Starry Sky Fireworks was the most expensive gift on KittyTV. Someone had just dropped three in a row in Lu Yu’s stream, and the special effects filled the entire screen.

[“Little brother is amazing! Don’t go to bed yet—play one more game! Didn’t you say you’d carry the other three teammates? I haven’t seen enough yet—stay! Please! 😭”]

The viewer who sent the fireworks followed up with a long stream of gold text. Jiang Mo looked at Lu Yu in confusion.

“I had the stream running,” Lu Yu said, only now remembering. His channel didn’t get many viewers, so he often forgot it was even on.

Jiang Mo used to stream a lot back when he was playing professionally. Out of habit, he said, “Th-Thank you, boss.”

Lu Yu: “…” Clever little guy.

[“Wuwu, you’re so obedient. Do you like fireworks, little brother? Say something nice again, and I’ll blow up another one for you!”]

[Ru Geng Zai Hou: I knew something was off with the skill level—turns out the real player chickened out and hid like a turtle. And you even got someone else to play for you? Dumbass. Come 1v1 me if you dare. Loser has to call the winner Daddy!]

Jiang Mo was still struggling with how to respond to his boss’s attempt to make him stay when a familiar ID suddenly appeared in the livestream chat.

Lu Yu’s in-game ID had a “KittyTV” prefix, so his channel was easy to find with a simple search. [Ru Geng Zai Hou] hadn’t made it through the friend request filter—he must’ve tracked them down through the stream instead.

Back in college, when faced with someone being deliberately provocative, Lu Yu would’ve cussed them out without hesitation. But after years of dealing with unreasonable customers, he had developed the skill of greeting troublemakers with a sweet “dear~.” Engaging with these types only gave them more to jump around about. Jiang Mo had already avenged him anyway—might as well keep the peace.

Lu Yu reached to close the stream, but Jiang Mo stopped him by grabbing the mouse and said to the screen, “H-How are we competing?”

Lu Yu was confused. “Jiang Mo?”

Jiang Mo turned to him and earnestly explained, “A f-free son came knocking. A-and as the dad, I need to teach him some manners.”

Lu Yu: “…”

[“Pfft, that was a great line—but can you not stutter? No confidence at all!”]

[“Haha, the little stutter wants to be someone’s daddy?”]

  1. And also between Lu Yu remained silent. He seemed quite clever.

    And

[“Haha, you said it well, but can you speak without stuttering? You don’t have any confidence!”]

    1. Thank you for letting me know, I’ve already fixed it… I hope you all still enjoy reading it

  2. Hi translator, just wanted to let you know there’s a section missing between He only streamed for forty hours per month, and during his gaming sessions, he would open the live stream with just a few viewers. Over the years, he had barely accumulated eight thousand fans, and usually, only a handful would watch his streams.

    And

Lu Yu didn’t care about such trivial matters. He propped his arm on the gaming chair, and a visible smile appeared on his face. “You should have told me earlier that you can play games. We could have played duo together. If you have time, I can teach you, little bro!”
