The Protagonist Pursues Me Relentlessly – Chapter 17

[“Did I hear it wrong? Why did Chi Yu invite Jiang Mo to a date?”]

[“The key point is that he actually smiled at Jiang Mo! Who can resist that?”]

Jiang Mo couldn’t resist it indeed. After Chi Yu finished speaking, he subconsciously nodded. By the time he realized what he had agreed to, his cheeks were already burning hot.

Chi Yu wants to go on a date with him? Going on a date with his idol, how lucky can he get?! He’s definitely going to win the lottery today!

“I’ll wash the dishes, you go change your clothes,” Chi Yu said as he started to tidy up the utensils.

“I-I’ll do the dishes,” Jiang Mo anxiously said. How could he let his idol wash the dishes!

Chi Yu raised his arm, but Jiang Mo missed it. He looked up in astonishment and met Chi Yu’s smiling eyes.

“Go change your clothes first. By the time you’re done changing, I’ll have finished washing the dishes. I don’t want to waste any time on our date.”

Chi Yu’s voice was low and pleasant, not commanding, but it carried an undeniable power.

Jiang Mo succumbed to the dual attack of Chi Yu’s gaze and voice. His ears turned red, and he quickly ran out of the restaurant.

Chi Yu pursed his lips, a faint smile lingering on his face.

[“What’s going on? This is too good to be true!”]

[“Snap out of it! That’s Chi Yu we’re talking about, the person even the beautiful Xia Weiwei could reject! He has high standards!”]

[“Doesn’t this prove something? Chi Yu likes guys, and Jiang Mo happens to be the right gender.”]

[“That makes it even more impossible. It’s just a task from the production team. Everyone else went out on dates, and Jiang Mo and Chi Yu ended up together by chance!”]

The director had no idea what task he had assigned to Chi Yu. It was entirely Chi Yu’s decision.

Jiang Mo didn’t have any clothes suitable for such an occasion. After pondering for a while, he finally chose the white down jacket he wore yesterday out of the two jackets he brought. Chi Yu was wearing black, and he was wearing white. Wasn’t it a good match?

Jiang Mo wasn’t fond of tidying himself up, but today, he took a rare long look in the mirror. He realized that his hair at the ends was sticking up in several places. He had just talked to Chi Yu with such messy hair.

How impolite of him.

Jiang Mo splashed water on his face, reducing the redness. Before leaving, he still felt a bit cold, so he went back to his room and grabbed a goose-yellow scarf to wrap around himself.

Chi Yu sat in the glass pavilion in the yard, waiting for Jiang Mo. When he heard the footsteps coming downstairs, he looked up and saw Jiang Mo in a white outfit. His eyebrows relaxed, and his gaze fell on Jiang Mo’s face covered by the yellow scarf. The yellow color complemented Jiang Mo’s fair skin, making the faint blush on his face even more visible. It looked very tempting, making people want to take a bite.

Chi Yu stood up, took the black umbrella by the door, and with long strides, he reached the stairs. The large umbrella shielded Jiang Mo’s hair from the falling raindrops.

Jiang Mo stood one step higher on the staircase, finally aligning his gaze with Chi Yu’s. He whispered a thank you.

There was a significant height difference between Jiang Mo and Chi Yu, and he was well aware of it. He didn’t suggest that he hold the umbrella, as it would probably cover Chi Yu’s head if he did.

“Where are we going?” Jiang Mo asked Chi Yu after they had walked a while.

Chi Yu replied, “This is my first time here. Can we just wander around?”

“Okay.”

The beauty of the Jiangnan town lay in its scenery and architecture. Rather than under the blazing sun, this place was more suitable for rainy days. The drizzle moistened the entire town, and the distant scenery was veiled by raindrops, as if falling into a hazy ink painting.

The real Jiang Mo was quite different from the one on the internet. The former was more silent, and during their walk, they exchanged no more than ten sentences. It was always Chi Yu who initiated the conversation.

[“I told you they’re not suitable for each other. They have no common topics.”]

[“But they look so compatible standing together. Jiang Mo makes Chi Yu look even cuter! Sob, sob, I don’t care, I ship them!”]

Chi Yu was observant and noticed Jiang Mo’s lack of interest. It seemed that Jiang Mo wasn’t interested in strolling around and appreciating the scenery.

As they passed by a dessert shop, there were a few game machines next to it, and Chi Yu stopped.

“Let’s have something to drink.”

Jiang Mo nodded.

“What do you want to drink?”

Jiang Mo glanced at the menu, didn’t hesitate for too long, and chose a plain milk tea. Chi Yu also ordered the same thing. Jiang Mo took out his phone to pay, but Chi Yu stopped him.

“I’ll handle it.”

The back of Jiang Mo’s hand was touched by Chi Yu’s fingertips, causing Jiang Mo to retract his hand as if it had been burned. He instinctively took a small step back and blushed, saying, “Oh.”

There were no customers in the shop, and the milk tea was quickly prepared. When Chi Yu received the milk tea, Jiang Mo was no longer by his side. Chi Yu turned around to look for Jiang Mo and found him sitting on a small stool near the neighboring door.

Indeed, the only thing that could capture Jiang Mo’s interest was the game.

Jiang Mo held a few marbles in his hand, facing a pinball machine. He focused his gaze on the transparent screen, and the orange machine emitted a childlike voice.

“Oh no, so close! What a pity!”

Although it was a child’s voice, the elongated tone at the end sounded irritating.

Jiang Mo furrowed his brows, inserted a marble into a small hole, and pulled the lever. The marble rolled out from the top and encountered various obstacles but failed to land accurately.

“Just a little more, kid, keep trying!”

Jiang Mo inserted another marble and pulled the lever again, but it was another failure.

“Wow, kid, you’re still not there yet. Keep trying harder!”

“I’m not a kid anymore.” Hearing the mocking voice from the machine, Jiang Mo grabbed his hair, loosened the scarf around his neck, and rubbed the last marble in his palm before carefully placing it in the slot. He pulled the lever again but still missed.

“Ah, kid, keep working hard!”

“Is it enough to just cheer me on? Can you give me marbles?” Jiang Mo’s face was twisted in frustration. He took out his phone, scanned the code, and quickly purchased five yuan worth of marbles. The machine dispensed a pile of marbles with a clattering sound.

“Kid, come play the game with me.” Even without inserting the marbles, the machine continued its interactive voice.

Jiang Mo picked up the marbles while saying to the machine, “You’re useless. I don’t want to play with you.”

[“…Haha, arguing with a game machine, what a kid!”]

[“Why do I find Jiang Mo quite adorable? Am I still half-asleep?!”]

Engrossed in the argument with the machine, Jiang Mo was startled when Chi Yu suddenly sat down on the stool beside him. Several marbles slipped from his hand, and Chi Yu picked them up one by one, asking, “How do you play this?”

“You put the marbles in and then pull the lever. The goal is to make the glass ball inside roll up and land in the lit red exit,” Jiang Mo explained. Gaming was Jiang Mo’s only skill, and he wanted to show off a bit in his area of expertise to his idol. After explaining the rules, he picked up a marble, intending to demonstrate to Chi Yu.

“It’s very simple.” Jiang Mo said, pulling the lever, but the marble bypassed the obstacles and narrowly missed the red dot.

Jiang Mo: “…”

Chi Yu imitated Jiang Mo, inserting a marble and pulling the lever. Among the row of dots, only two were red, giving him a 20% chance, and he succeeded.

Looking at the pile of marbles that rolled out, Jiang Mo felt a few bubbles of sourness in his heart. “You’re… you’re really good.”

He actually wanted to be praised by Chi Yu for being good at playing games.

Jiang Mo was very innocent, wearing his emotions plainly on his face. Chi Yu easily guessed Jiang Mo’s thoughts and chuckled, “This game is based on luck, and today my luck is better.”

“Mm.” Jiang Mo’s voice sounded a bit muffled. Was Chi Yu trying to console him?

With that thought, Jiang Mo’s unhappiness instantly dissipated, and he regained his confidence. He played again but still didn’t win.

“… ” Jiang Mo’s eyebrows drooped again.

Chi Yu reminded him, “You still have plenty of marbles.”

Jiang Mo continued to play, spending five yuan on 25 marbles. He played 20 times and didn’t win a single time. Chi Yu picked up four marbles for him and managed to win all three times.

[“…Suddenly feeling a bit sorry for them, this is too unfair!”]

[“Reminds me of my luck with gacha events, sob sob, Jiang Mo is like me back then QAQ”]

[“These two are extreme cases, one with insanely good luck and the other with none at all.”]

Jiang Mo clenched the last marble in his hand, pursed his lips tightly. He felt so embarrassed. He should have known better than to play this game.

He threw the last marble in, and the audience in the livestream was eagerly anticipating Jiang Mo’s victory. It’s impossible for a person not to win after the 21st try, right?

However, Jiang Mo still didn’t win.

“Oh no~ Kid, what a pity. Keep trying your best!”

“It… It’s mocking me.” Jiang Mo couldn’t hide his grievances. If it weren’t for the camera recording, he would have given the machine a few hits.

Chi Yu really wanted to poke Jiang Mo’s slightly puffed cheeks, but he suppressed the desire and smiled, saying, “Then let’s win against it.”

He handed the marble he had been holding for a long time to Jiang Mo and said, “This is on credit from you. I’m giving you my luck.”

As Jiang Mo’s fingertips touched the warm marble, he immediately understood one thing: this marble was enveloped in Chi Yu’s body temperature. It felt as if his fingers were being burned, making him curl them in discomfort.

Jiang Mo took a deep breath, feeling inexplicably nervous. It wasn’t because of the consecutive failures but because he became aware of Chi Yu’s presence.

His mind wasn’t focused on the pinball machine anymore. He realized that Chi Yu was so close to him, their shoulders could easily touch. When they spoke, Chi Yu’s breath brushed against the strands of hair on his head.

Jiang Mo absentmindedly pulled the lever, and the marble shot out.

“Wow~ Kid, you’re amazing!”

A bunch of marbles clattered out of the exit, and only then did Jiang Mo react. He had won.

“I… I told you, I’m not a kid anymore.” Jiang Mo muttered while picking up the marbles. His previously drooping eyebrows and eyes stretched out, and he pursed his lips, revealing deep dimples on his cheeks.

Chi Yu fixed his gaze on Jiang Mo’s dimples, feeling an itch in his hidden fingers. He imitated the machine and chuckled, “Kid, you’re amazing.”

Jiang Mo’s movements of picking up the marbles paused, and his face suddenly turned red.
