For Mother Gu, she fulfilled her wish in a different way. Although she didn’t have a daughter, she had a granddaughter!
Nowadays, except for some families that still hold feudal ideas, most families consider both boys and girls as precious. The Gu family’s little princess is especially beautiful and lovely. After the jaundice period, her skin became very white and tender, and her big eyes are even more beautiful. Sometimes when she looks at people, she can make them feel overwhelmed with cuteness.
She is very well-behaved, although sometimes she cries and fusses, the nanny says that she is more well-behaved than the average newborn.
As they say, there is a special bond between grandparents and grandchildren, which is true. Previously, Father Gu and Mother Gu had busy schedules, but now they come to see their granddaughter almost every day. If in the past, Father Gu’s social media was filled with food and scenery, now he only posts about his granddaughter. Of course, when Gu Qianyan was a child, his father also took many pictures of him.
Mother Gu now has more reasons to buy things. Previously, she thought that as long as her daughter-in-law didn’t mind, she could give her these limited edition bags and jewelry in the future. Now, she has an heir, so wouldn’t she want to buy more and more?
When Zhao Pianpian came to see the baby, she whispered to Luo Bei, “Shanshan is probably the person who lives in a honey jar. Think about it, Xiao Jiang is her godfather, and with Xiao Jiang’s current status, becoming a movie star is just a matter of time…”
This is true. Jiang Sihan’s future is very promising. He transitioned from being an idol to a competent actor in just one year, and everyone recognized his acting skills. He basically doesn’t take TV dramas anymore and focuses solely on movies. According to the current development trend, Luo Bei thinks he might become a movie king superstar even earlier than in the novel’s plot.
By the way, the Gu family’s little princess’s name is Gu Jinxi. Grandpa Gu spent several days thinking of this name. As for her nickname, it is very simple and straightforward.
When Luo Bei was pregnant, she was especially craving scallops. After the baby was born, Gu Qianyan discussed with her, since her name had the character “bei,” why not name the baby Shanshan1?
Shanshan and Beibei, just hearing their names makes one feel loving.
Luo Bei now thinks back and realizes that she might have been a bit silly during her pregnancy. When she was in confinement, she agreed to this proposal without thinking it through.
“Then, her father is now the CEO of Gu’s Group. You might also be able to do big business in the future. I see that your father-in-law, mother-in-law, and even your grandfather all dote on her like a precious gem. And then, look at you and her father, she will definitely become a big beauty in the future.” Zhao Pianpian chuckled, “It’s true that some people are born winners in life, and she is one of them.”
Actually, Luo Bei thought that Zhao Pianpian hadn’t said everything.
Luo Bei is someone who knew the plot.
Shanshan’s father was a domineering CEO, and her mother was also a domineering CEO. And the future superstar was her godfather. Of course, even Fang Jingzhou, the future domineering CEO, treated Shanshan as his own sister. As for Zhao Pianpian… In the past two years, things seemed to have cleared up between her and Lei Yuhao. With baby Chen growing up day by day, the two seemed to have put the past behind them and were choosing to start over. According to the plot, it was without a doubt that Zhao Pianpian, Shanshan’s godmother, would become the CEO’s wife.
Luo Bei looked at Shanshan, who was sleeping soundly after a good meal, and thought to that compared to herself, Shanshan seems to be more like someone who was born with the fate of being rich and prosperous!
At this point, Gu Qianyan had already shown potential as a daughter slace. He would come home on time every day to hug Shanshan. Luo Bei wondered if it was because Gu Qianyan had spent every night during her pregnancy telling stories and talking to her belly. Apart from the natural attachment and nostalgia for Luo Bei, Shanshan was also very familiar with her father.
Although they had a nanny and a babysitter at home, Gu Qianyan insisted on washing and changing Shanshan’s diapers himself whenever he had the time. He even learned from the nanny and now he was the one who took care of Shanshan’s diaper rash. Even the nanny had privately told Luo Bei that she had never seen such a responsible father before.
Many fathers do a decent job, at least they don’t come home and immediately grab their phones. But they don’t do it as meticulously as Gu Qianyan. Just for this, he deserves some praise.
Luo Bei was surprised when she heard from Mother Chen about Chen Lan committing suicide by cutting her wrist.
Because of Luo Bei’s help, some things have already deviated greatly from the original plot. At least, Fang Jingzhou did not stay with Chen Lan after he was five years old. She also learned about Chen Lan’s recent situation. Chen Lan did not end up like in the original novel plot, where she gave up on herself, had affairs with countless men, and eventually became sick and committed suicide. However, her life was not much better either. She had been hanging out with one man after another, and although these men promised to marry her, Chen Lan still hadn’t gotten married in recent years.
It’s unknown if she suddenly lost hope in life, but in any case, one night, Chen Lan cut her wrist and committed suicide. There was no one with her at the time, so by the time she was found, she had already passed away.
The dead are gone, and Fang Jingzhou hasn’t been with her for these years. He is just like an ordinary little boy, except that he still has no feelings for Chen Lan. Even when he heard that his biological mother had committed suicide by cutting her wrist, he just stared blankly for a moment and nodded silently.
All the experiences between mother and son over the years have ended with Chen Lan’s suicide.
During the summer vacation every year, Luo Bei and Gu Qianyan would always pick up Fang Jingzhou to play. This year was no exception, and Fang Jingzhou had already said many times on the phone that he wanted to see his little sister. Luo Bei naturally wanted to fulfill his wish, and Fang Jingzhou’s room has already been prepared in the house, with his old clothes still in the closet. As soon as Fang Jingzhou entered the house, he ran to the bedroom. He was now ten years old and not as clingy to Luo Bei as he was when he was younger, but he still hugged her and sat next to her, saying in a disappointed tone, “Beibei, I broke my promise. I might get fat.”
“Why?” This kid’s mouth is getting more and more skillful, even Gu Qianyan is having a hard time dealing with him now.
“I said before that when you have a baby, I’ll come over and buy you candy and ice cream so you won’t be in so much pain, but I didn’t come.”
Luo Bei laughed at his words, “You don’t have time, and studying hard is the most important thing for you now. Besides, I wasn’t in so much pain. Your Uncle Xiao Zhou has been with me all along, and everyone in the family has been with me, so it’s okay.”
Fang Jingzhou sighed, “It seems like I can’t promise things lightly in the future. It’s not good if I can’t fulfill them.”
Luo Bei didn’t expect him to realize this point, but after thinking about it carefully, the general direction was still correct, so she nodded, “Indeed, making promises…shouldn’t be taken lightly.”
Encouraged by Luo Bei, Fang Jingzhou tried to hold Shanshan. Shanshan was very well-behaved, looking at Fang Jingzhou curiously with her big eyes. She wasn’t shy. Perhaps the way Fang Jingzhou held her made her feel uncomfortable. She twisted her body, and her faint eyebrows were furrowed together. Fang Jingzhou looked at Luo Bei, seeking help.
Fortunately, Fang Jingzhou was a smart and studious student. Soon, he figured out how to hold Shanshan to make her comfortable.
Children are the most honest. They smile when they are comfortable and cry when they are not. In no time, Shanshan stopped moving and wasn’t restless anymore.
Fang Jingzhou found it amazing. The little girl in his arms had a good smell of milk. She was so small and soft that he dared not move while holding her. “This is Beibei’s daughter.”
He suddenly muttered.
Before, when he saw those little babies, he had also thought about what Beibei and Uncle Xiao Zhou’s baby would be like.
Looking at Shanshan, he felt that she should be like this.
“Yes, she’s my daughter,” Luo Bei smiled, and the look in her eyes when she looked at Shanshan was full of love.
Fang Jingzhou extended his finger and lightly tapped on Shanshan’s forehead.
“Beibei, Uncle Xiao Zhou is right,” he paused for a moment, “There’s no girl cuter than Beibei’s daughter in this world.” He then looked at Shanshan with a smile and said, “I officially declare that Shanshan is the cutest little girl in the world.”
Shanshan looked at him curiously with her big eyes.
Luo Bei chuckled, “Yes, yes, Shanshan is the cutest. Beibei takes a back seat.”
Looking at her, Fang Jingzhou asked, “Beibei, are you jealous?” He quickly explained, “I like Shanshan because she’s your daughter and she’s my little sister.”
Gu Qianyan walked in at that moment and teased, “Shanshan is my daughter, you’re her brother, what does that make you to me?”
Fang Jingzhou felt suffocated and didn’t know what to say.
Finally, he thought for a moment and said, “I’m your little brother.”
“If you’re my little brother, then Shanshan should be your niece,” Gu Qianyan walked behind Luo Bei and gave her a massage.
Fang Jingzhou replied, “Shanshan is my little sister, not my niece.”
He repeated it again, looking at the little baby in his arms. Fang Jingzhou’s dark eyes met hers, and they were both very focused. Fang Jingzhou raised his head and glanced at Luo Bei and Gu Qianyan, who were talking, then looked back at Shanshan. He had always known how good Beibei and Uncle Xiao Zhou were to him. Although he knew they were not his parents, their relationship was deeper than that of relatives.
Shanshan, Shanshan, I’m your big brother. Although you’re not my real sister, you’re more important to me than a real sister because you’re Beibei and Uncle Xiao Zhou’s baby. I’ll be very good to you in the future, and won’t let anyone bully you. I’ll also buy you lots of delicious food.
“I’m your big brother,” Fang Jingzhou introduced himself solemnly. “I’m Brother Jingzhou.”
The most lovely little girl in the world, I hope you grow up happy and healthy.
rokumi’s note : Ahh it’s oveerr..! What a happy ending! (I kinda expected a romance between Fang Jingzhou and Shanshan tho 🤤)
- scallop is 扇贝 (shàn bèi) in Chinese. Luo Bei’s Bei is the same as the bei in scallop, thus to complement her name, Gu Qianyan gave the nickname Shanshan (扇扇) to their daughter. ↩︎
Thank you so much for the translation! This was such a heartwarming and sincere story, I loved how reasonable and non-toxic the characters were. Gu Qianyan was such a rare thoughtful, respectful and quirky ML and of course Beibei was the best hardworking and sweet girl 💕
As some of the comments said, the story really DARE to end here. It’s a commendable bravery because there’s still some plotlines that can be elaborated and explored (exploited for more money 🤑, jk tho). 😅
Thank you for the translation. It’s easily joining in my list of recent most favorite books. Otsukaresama. 😄😄😄
I was too, a bit, but I think it’s better like this. The boy who would have grown up to hate women and regard them as playthings without LB’s intervention is instead a devoted sister slave. So if and when he has a relationship someday, he’ll already know to cherish her.
I don’t think Shan Shan and Jing Zhou will be together. I feel like him yearning for a family and having it through Luo Bei and Qian Yan establishes the future of him being a great older brother to Shan Shan. Pian Pian’s son might be a candidate for the CP but maybe she’ll fall in love with a different person. ┐( ∵ )┌
Although I’m a bit taken aback with how Pian Pian and Lei guy ends up as a couple, I’m quite happy that it went differently from the novel. At least rn, there’s no imbalance in power and both of them made room for improvement for themselves before engaging in love.
thx for translating and sharing this wonderful novel! really enjoyed reading it!
Thank you , I think Shan Shan and baby Chen can be future lovers too and Jingzhou will be protective older brother or it could be a love triangle too lol
Thank you for this great story! I loved how the author characterized the main CP, so refreshing! The thing I loved the most in the book was Grandpa Gu coming to have his car washed, and how he relished every moment of it. Also, how did the FL dare to call the protagonists around her Sues… she’s the biggest of them all, haha!
Your hard work is appreciated, thanks again!
Ah, it’s over. This was a cute and fluffy novel.
There’s still a few loose threads I would have loved see explored further, Jiang Hui being one. She entered the story quickly and then left again a few moments later without doing much of anything or affecting the story in any way; it felt a bit pointless to me. I would have liked to see how she ended up in the end. If I have to guess, she just ended up as a completely normal person, but it feels a little unsatisfying not knowing for sure, and I can’t help but echo her sentiments a little: For what reason did she transmigrate?
Then there is Luo Beibei’s parents. Since there was such a backstory of them abandoning their child and running away, I expected them to show up at some point to leech off the success of Beibei or the Gu family, and yet they weren’t even mentioned in the end. What happened to them? Are they doing well? Are they filled with regrets? We will never know.
Finally, I’m a little dissatisfied that every single sub plot ended up just like they did in the novels, even if they took a detour. Zhao Pianpian ended up reconciling with Lei Yuhao, Chen Lan committed suicide, Fang Jingzhou became the domineering CEO, and Jiang Sihan became the Film Emperor. No matter what happened in between, they all ended up just like the dreams said they would, so does this mean that in the end, their lives were controlled by an invisible hand of fate? If Beibei did her utmost to save Chen Lan, would she still die in the end because of forces outside of anyone’s control? It’s a bit disturbing to think about.
Anyway, that’s my little exit review. This was a great read, thanks for translating it!
