The Landlady and The Amnesiac – Chapter 22

Luo Bei sincerely doubted that the girl might be interested in pursuing Zhou Jianguo, so she patronized his business.

Zhou Jianguo said that he didn’t finish elementary school, but she didn’t believe it. This was a woman’s sixth sense. She still thought that Zhou Jianguo was a capable and formidable person. However, everyone had their secrets, and Zhou Jianguo didn’t want to talk about it. She didn’t need to go to great lengths to inquire.

At this moment, Zhou Jianguo finished taking a shower and was preparing to go out to deliver takeout again.

He went out to the construction site every morning and wouldn’t come back until the afternoon. After eating dinner and taking a shower, he would deliver takeout until after 10 pm, and in between, he might also deliver water. Luo Bei thought this was something even the most hardworking person couldn’t bear.

Zhou Jianguo had his reasons, “Don’t you think sleeping is a waste of time?”

Luo Bei thought to herself, Sleeping was a waste of time? On weekends, she would love nothing more than to lie in bed for two days to be comfortable.

“There is data that shows that people who sleep seven to eight hours a day live the longest. People who sleep more than 10 hours a night have an 80% chance of having a shorter lifespan. I usually come back around 10 o’clock to deliver takeout, and brushing my teeth, washing my face, and taking a shower won’t take more than 20 minutes in total. Because I’ve been busy all day, I can fall asleep quickly. Generally, I’ll be asleep before 11 o’clock and wake up around 6:30 in the morning. I think seven and a half hours of sleep is just right.

“Moreover, as far as I know, few young people now go to bed before midnight. That time from after work until midnight, whether it’s playing on the phone or watching TV, it’s all a waste of time for me.”

With solid reasoning and evidence, Luo Bei sincerely admires Zhou Jianguo.

She was almost brainwashed by him.

In fact, there aren’t many young people who can sleep before 11 pm now.

Zhou Jianguo’s routine is very regular.

When Luo Bei parted with Zhou Jianguo on the first floor, she sincerely said, “I think you will definitely become rich in the future, really.”

To be honest, she doesn’t have such a hardworking person around her. Most people work from 9 to 6, and the enthusiasm for work at the beginning of entering society will gradually disappear. She has never seen anyone like Zhou Jianguo who enjoys working in such high intensity.

She really thinks that even if Zhou Jianguo really hasn’t graduated from elementary school as he said, with his state, he can definitely achieve something.

Zhou Jianguo smiled happily, “Then I will borrow your good words.”

It’s strange that he doesn’t have a strong desire to get rich, he just likes the feeling of working hard to earn money.

When he thinks about it carefully, he doesn’t have high demands for food or housing, as long as they are clean. He’s even content with living in a basement now. As for other things, it’s even less important.

His colleagues all say that he works so hard to save money for a down payment and to get married. He didn’t deny it, but he knows in his heart that it’s not like that.

If life is only for a house, then it’s truly meaningless.

Zhao Pianpian feels sorry for Fang Jingzhou. After all, she is already a mother and can’t understand Chen Lan’s behavior. Which mother would defame her own son as a thief in front of others? And which mother would lock her own son in a small room for several days without turning on the lights, talking to him, or even acknowledging him? In fact, this is even more cruel than hitting or scolding him.

Fang Jingzhou has indeed been left with psychological scars.

He is very sensitive to the word “thief”, even if it’s just a character in a TV drama saying it, he will hide to one side. What’s worse is that he now has to sleep with the lights on, as he’s afraid of the dark.

As Zhou Jianguo said, this is just the beginning for Chen Lan. If Fang Jingzhou stays with her, there will inevitably be a day when Luo Bei can’t do anything to help. What kind of predicament will Fang Jingzhou face then? No one can say for sure, but everyone knows that the situation won’t be better than it is now.

Luo Bei vaguely knew that Chen Lan had broken up with her boyfriend, and it was very likely because her boyfriend had found out about Fang Jingzhou’s existence. So Chen Lan believed that her current situation was all caused by Fang Jingzhou, and her attitude towards him had changed from ignoring and impatience to disgust and hatred.

She called Chen Lan’s mother and briefly explained the situation.

Chen Lan’s mother immediately said that she would take the train to come over and see what was going on.

In fact, Luo Bei was not sure if her actions would be effective. After all, she did not know if a mother would value her daughter more or her grandson more.

It is difficult to say that a person’s personality has nothing to do with their family background.

The next day, Chen Lan probably also knew that her mother was coming. When she went out, she happened to meet Luo Bei. Although she was still a little affraid of Luo Bei, she couldn’t help but be angry and said, “Luo Bei, don’t you think you’re meddling too much? I let you take care of the child for free if you want, but what’s the matter with you bringing my mother here? You even told her that I abused my child on the phone. This is my family matter. Don’t stretch your hand too far. It’s unreasonable.”

“Isn’t this abuse? You accused him of being a thief in front of outsiders, and locked him in a room for several days without turning on the lights. Yes, you didn’t hit him or scold him, but your behavior is psychological abuse, Chen Lan. I sincerely advise you to see a psychologist.” Luo Bei felt that there was no need to be polite with this person. After all, some people are naturally inclined to bully the weak and fear the strong, “Also, do you think your life is not going well because Jingzhou is a burden? But have you ever thought that the reason why you are living this life now is purely caused by yourself, because he didn’t force you to give birth to him, he had no choice. So you have to bear the consequences and responsibility yourself. How can you vent your failures and dissatisfaction on your child?”

Chen Lan was so angry that her eyes turned red, “What do you know? You haven’t been a single mother, how dare you criticize me!”

“Yes, I have never been a mother myself, but I know that an adult has to pay for their own decisions. It was your own choice to give birth to him and become a single mother. No one forced you, so why should the child bear the consequences? The only mistake he made was choosing you to be his mother!”

Before going downstairs, Luo Bei looked back at Chen Lan and said, “No one will blame you if you don’t love him, but if you deliberately hurt him, even God will not let you go. He is your child after all.”

Without waiting for Chen Lan’s reaction, she left.

Luo Beiwas really impressed with Zhou Jianguo.

Recently, a milk tea shop suddenly became popular. When she came to the door of the milk tea shop and saw a long queue, she was about to go to another shop when she heard someone calling her.

She looked closer and it turned out to be Zhou Jianguo. Wasn’t he supposed to be at the construction site at this time?

“Why aren’t you at work?” Luo Bei asked.

“I have the afternoon off today. There seems to be some dispute.”

Luo Bei nodded, “Are you also here to queue for milk tea?”

“I don’t like this. It’s not nutritious. This milk tea shop has been very popular recently, and I’m queuing to buy it for someone else, with a little extra fee.”

Luo Bei : “….”

“Do you want to drink it? It’ll probably be my turn in more than ten minutes. What do you want? I’ll buy it for you,” Zhou Jianguo paused and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t charge you extra.”

How many jobs did he take on at the same time?!

Now looking at Zhou Jianguo, who had the appearance of a person who had been injected with chicken blood and was working hard to make money, Luo Bei felt ashamed of herself.

He could even take a part-time job to help people queue up to buy milk tea…

If this person doesn’t become rich, it’s against Heaven’s Order!

While queuing up, a couple behind them were discussing the stock market. The man confidently said that the stock he bought would definitely rise, and they might be able to save up for a down payment. Although the woman felt it was not safe, she didn’t say much and only advised him to be more careful.

“It’s not going to rise, it will fall,” whispered Zhou Jianguo in Luo Bei’s ear when he saw that she was listening attentively. “Don’t buy it.”

Ro Bei had no intention of buying stocks, but she was still a bit skeptical when Zhou Jianguo spoke so confidently. She asked, “How do you know?”

Zhou Jianguo briefly explained his reasons.

Luo Bei couldn’t understand the professional terms…

“I’m less and less convinced you didn’t finish elementary school.”

In fact, Zhou Jianguo didn’t understand why he knew these things either. Even a few days ago, he had encountered two foreigners speaking English on the street, and he could understand everything they said.

Sometimes he was curious about his own identity, but since no one knew him, he didn’t want to waste his time and energy on such pointless questions.

It seemed that his innate character was such that he didn’t want to waste time and effort on things he deemed meaningless.

Since there are no memories and he can’t remember, he shouldn’t think about it.

No matter who he was before, at least he had to ensure that he could live well in his current situation where he didn’t even know who he was.

At night, after several months, Luo Bei had a dream again.

The male protagonist was a typical poor boy from a humble background. His family only had an elderly grandmother. He was a top student in school and started his own company before he even graduated. Before he was thirty, his company successfully went public. In the eyes of outsiders, the male protagonist was handsome, tall, and had the charisma of a celebrity. He was capable and had a strong personality. He was a wealthy and influential CEO. However, his personality was very strange.

He hated women, looked down on women, had no friends, did not trust anyone, and even had an inherent disregard for everyone around him.

Cold, unfeeling, and selfish.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that he was a big jerk, but if we really want to be serious about it, besides his own personality, the person who had the biggest influence on him was his own mother.

The male protagonist’s mother was a college student who was admitted to a big city from a certain county. Her appearance was not bad and she had a bright future ahead of her, but she was vain and dissatisfied with a mundane life. She also hated her own background. By coincidence, she met the male protagonist’s father and they quickly got together. She thought she could marry into a wealthy family and become a rich man’s wife, but the male protagonist’s father warned her that he was going to marry the person he had liked for many years. If she dared to make trouble, he would make her disappear.

She was so frightened. She knew the rich second-generation’s family had a high position in the Jing City, and his fiancée’s family was even more prominent. If she really made a fuss, no one would care about the child in her belly. Originally, she planned to abort the child directly, but after coming to the hospital, she didn’t know why she couldn’t do it. She wanted to give birth to the child. When the child grew up, maybe she could get a share of the property.

Unexpectedly, when the male protagonist was just over two years old, both families were arrested and the male protagonist’s father and his wife went abroad without a trace.

The male protagonist’s mother didn’t dare to take the child to his father’s family, afraid of being involved.

Later, she also met a good man, and they had already developed to the point of meeting each other’s parents. However, the man’s cousin was her former junior schoolmate who knew her situation, and the man couldn’t tolerate her past, let alone accept that she had a child, so he broke up with her.

She vented all her emotions on the child. Later, when the child was five years old, she simply gave up and began to flirt with various men.

Every day, all kinds of men came to the house, and the male protagonist, who was so young, almost saw his mother and strangers being intimate every day. He was disgusted in his heart, he didn’t want his mother to go out, didn’t want someone to come to the house every day. He wanted to lock the door, but it was useless. He wanted to run away from home, but he didn’t have the ability. When the male protagonist was ten years old, she got sick, probably feeling that there was no point in living anymore, she committed suicide.

The male lead was then taken back to his hometown by his grandmother, but his personality had already been distorted in such an environment.

  1. ZJG shouldn’t spend much time to solve his missing identity. He can report his condition to police with related hospital reports about his accident (how he lost his memory) then apply for anew temporary identity, can’t he? With the temporary identity, he can legally have bank account etc. on his current name and he can reclaim it after or if he ever got back his real identity.

As for FZG and his Mom… That’s unexpected background and development. It fit an anti-hero protagonist. But, now that LB has interfere some abuse and show him earlier that his mom is NOT the best representative of women, it should cushioned his trauma for women, right?
