After spending the afternoon watching movies, Zhou Ji was feeling emotionally wounded.
In the past eighteen years, Ning Zhiyu rarely watched television, let alone movies. The few times she did watch movies were in the school’s multimedia classroom. Naturally, the teachers wouldn’t show them horror films; they were always well-regarded artistic films. Despite Ning Zhiyu’s outward appearance leaning towards the artistic and intellectual type, she actually disliked watching artistic films. Every time, she felt drowsy and had to force herself to stay focused… Today, she finally realized what type of movies she loved watching!
Undoubtedly, it was horror movies!
Horror movies typically have a fast-paced rhythm, with one suspenseful event after another. The combination of music and atmosphere immerses the viewers, making it hard to break away.
“Aren’t you afraid?” Zhou Ji couldn’t take it anymore and finally asked.
Jiang Yumo didn’t say anything.
He strongly suspected that this girl was deliberately pretending like this in front of Duan Ye; otherwise, how could she be so scared?
However, Yan Qing and Sun Mengting, who appeared fearless, let out a few screams while tightly clutching their pillows. As for Ning Zhiyu, she didn’t react at all. In fact, the scarier it got, the more excited she seemed to become. This wasn’t logical!
Ning Zhiyu didn’t even turn her head. “It’s all fake, what is there to be afraid of?”
She knew this was just a movie, made by people and acted by people. So, what was there to be afraid of?
And even if there were ghosts in this world, so what?
There were also her parents. She believes that if there really were ghosts trying to harm her, she could take down four of them with a single punch, just as powerful as her parents.
So, what’s there to be afraid of?
Zhou Ji gave a dry laugh, “Yeah, it’s all fake.”
Looking at Master Duan across from him, Zhou Ji suddenly felt a sense of enlightenment. It wasn’t about having a high or low level; it was all about… fate!
For high school students, there couldn’t be a happier day than today. Exams are over, there’s no pressure to study, and the results haven’t come out yet. Upon careful calculation, they still have half a month to enjoy themselves! Eight people gathered together and discussed it. Finally, they decided to take a trip together before the exam results are released. The boys were fine; their parents haven’t been bothered about them during this time. Even staying overnight at an internet cafe was acceptable.
For the four girls, except for Ning Zhiyu, the other three had to request permission from their parents.
Luckily, after some coaxing and persuasion, the parents all agreed. Of course, the fact that Ning Zhiyu was going played a significant role in this. Yan Qing referred to Ning Zhiyu as their lucky charm. It seemed that as long as she went, it was like a weather vane, and the parents were more inclined to agree.
Ningcheng is a small place. Even if the parents don’t know each other, they can somehow find a connection through twists and turns.
It’s like Yan Qing’s aunt’s college classmate’s husband is Zhao Zheng’s cousin…
The connection is distant, but if you count on your fingers, it’s still an acquaintance.
Since both families have some sort of connection, even if it’s distant, the parents feel much more at ease. After all, they can be considered acquaintances!
In conclusion, under their efforts, they finally embarked on their first proper trip with friends.
The group of eight had studied the map and online guides, selecting a seaside town not too far from Ningcheng. Although there were high-speed trains and planes, they had to go to the provincial capital first, so they decided to take the train. Not only was the ticket price reasonable, but they also felt the journey would be more interesting. They had booked sleeper train tickets, and on the day before departure, everyone was so excited that they couldn’t sleep. This was even more exhilarating than their childhood spring outings. They chatted a lot in their group chat and were scheduled to board the train in the afternoon of the next day.
They will arrive early the next morning at 5 o’clock, so they planned to catch some sleep on the train.
They were all in the same train compartment.
The train rattled along, and they sat in their lower berths, all wearing the same expressions – excitement and eagerness.
Of course, this sense of excitement gradually faded after over an hour on the train.
Yan Qing’s face showed frustration as she quietly complained to them, “It’s so smelly…”
“And so noisy…”
Children were running around, and adults were playing cards. Some of these adults even had their shoes off!!
Jiang Yumao covered her nose, saying, “It’s even smellier than my Dad’s feet!”
They had imagined it so beautifully, thinking that they could sleep well on the train and wake up at their destination. But the reality was that they didn’t sleep at all during the night! Some were grinding their teeth, some were making phone calls, and some were talking. What was even more unbearable was the loud snoring. Under these circumstances, who could sleep? They could only doze off, and finally, when they reached their destination, everyone stretched and yawned, shaking off their weariness from the train and once again filled with excitement.
It’s still early at five o’clock, but a pale light has already appeared on the horizon.
The morning temperature is not high, and the wind is cool.
They headed straight to the hotel. Normally, hotel check-in isn’t until 2:00 PM, but their other lucky charm, Zhou Ji, once again demonstrated his magical ability with money. By six o’clock, they had checked in early. Everyone took a refreshing shower and then took a nap. They slept until the afternoon and woke up feeling refreshed and ready to go to a nearby restaurant for a meal. Jiang Yumo hadn’t slept well and refused to go out no matter what. The three girls couldn’t do anything about it, so they had to change their plans and said they would bring her some takeout.
When they gathered in the hotel lobby, Duan Ye noticed that Jiang Yumo hadn’t come down and looked at Ning Zhiyu, who shared a room with her.
Before Ning Zhiyu could answer, Yan Qing spoke up, “We don’t need to wait for her. She hasn’t slept well. Let’s go eat, and we’ll pack some food for her later.”
Ning Zhiyu also nodded, “She looks really tired.”
“Definitely,” Sun Mengting chuckled, “She had a nickname in junior high, ‘Sleeping Goddess.'”
Duan Ye remembered something and laughed as well.
“You guys go ahead,” Duan Ye glanced at his wristwatch, “I’ll wait for her in the room. After you finish eating, you don’t have to rush back. You can stroll around nearby, and when she wakes up, I’ll take her out to eat.”
Yan Qing thought for a moment, “That works too. Anyway, I also want to go out and explore. This place is lively.”
Watching the six of them leave the hotel, Duan Ye returned to his own room.
They had booked four rooms, all on the same floor.
His room is diagonally across from Jiang Yumo’s.
Just half an hour had passed, and Jiang Yumo woke up, scratched awake by herself. She went to the bathroom and took a look. Her neck, along with her arms and back, had broken out in red rashes… She knew her body well. This kind of reaction usually occurs after sleeping on unclean bed sheets. Thinking about the bed on the train berth, she sighed. Helplessly, she finished washing up and prepared to go outside to find a pharmacy to buy ointment. However, as soon as she opened the door and hadn’t even reached the elevator, she heard Duan Ye’s deep voice coming over:
“Awake?”
Jiang Yumo was most afraid of being seen in this state. Her first instinct was to cover her neck and chin, asking in a muffled voice, “Why didn’t you go eat?”
Duan Ye found her behavior strange, approached, furrowed his brows, and his gaze fell on her fair neck where the red dots were visible. He quickly got closer, “What’s going on?”
