Chapter 52 – Exclusive Sweet Romance: The Battle to Save the Campus Heartthrob (14)
Jian Haocang hugged Bai Mo tightly, calling his name over and over: “Mo Mo, Mo Mo…”
The little snow ferret had no idea what was wrong with his dear husband. Blushing, he patiently responded each time: “I’m here. But not today, okay? I’m not ready yet~”
His husband had been brooding earlier, but now he was unusually affectionate. Bai Mo’s thoughts turned a little indecent, and his heart began to race.
“Mo Mo, tell me, did someone… bully you?” Jian Haocang wouldn’t be at ease until he heard the answer for himself.
Bai Mo: “?”
“Who could possibly bully me? If anything, I’d be the one bullying them.”
Speaking of Huo Wen and Mo Qun, who had tried to set him up but ended up suffering instead, Bai Mo instantly became animated.
He started enthusiastically recounting his “masterpiece”: “They even called a whole group of people, and now they’re getting a taste of their own medicine.”
Jian Haocang’s smile remained unchanged, but his eyes darkened slightly. Huo Wen, Mo Qun…
Their faces flashed through his mind as the commotion outside grew louder. He took out his phone and played the role of an anonymous tipster.
Ten minutes later, the authorities arrived.
As soon as the muscular man entered the room, he spotted the laptop that had been monitoring his room, placed in the most conspicuous spot. Fury surged through him, and he grabbed Mo Qun, delivering a brutal beating.
When their classmates arrived, they were initially puzzled—wasn’t Bai Mo supposed to be the main character in this drama? Why had Huo Wen taken center stage instead?
Still, they couldn’t just stand by and watch someone get beaten to death. Some wanted to intervene, but faced with the muscular man’s imposing physique, they hesitated, unable to find the right moment to step in.
Since it was Huo Wen who had called the student council members over, most of the newcomers were female students. Against a man like that, they were no match. All they could do was verbally urge him to stop.
But in the muscular man’s ears, their words took on a different meaning, further confirming his suspicion—not only had they set him up for their own amusement, but they had even called more people over to watch the show.
It wasn’t until the people Jian Haocang had notified arrived that the fight was broken up.
“What’s going on here? Why are you fighting and causing a scene? And you all—what exactly are you doing here?” The questions came one after another, each sharper than the last.
Some even suspected that these so-called “mediators” were actually part of the setup.
The students refused to be labeled as accomplices and immediately stepped back. One of the student council leaders stammered out an explanation:
“We came because Huo Wen told us that one of our classmates’ partners was here doing… exercise… with some muscular guy. Seeing is believing, so we came to check it out. But we’re not with Huo Wen and his group!”
The crowd was in an uproar, everyone talking over one another.
Accusations flew from all directions—one person saying this, another saying that. Faced with questioning, Huo Wen and Mo Qun repeatedly insisted that they were a couple and that intimacy between lovers shouldn’t be considered anything inappropriate. Not only that, but they even tried to shift the blame onto the muscular man.
The muscular man was already furious, and now they wanted him to take the fall? He was beyond frustrated.
Huo Wen and Mo Qun in a relationship? No one had ever heard of such a thing.
The students exchanged puzzled glances. But then again, there were plenty of things they hadn’t heard of before—just because they didn’t know didn’t mean it wasn’t true.
Besides, Huo Wen had always been known for keeping a low profile.
Everyone here was from A University, and there weren’t any deep grudges between them. Plus, when they arrived, the first thing they saw was the muscular man beating someone up. Naturally, they sided with their fellow student.
Outnumbered and enraged, the muscular man made a reckless decision—one that would hurt both himself and his enemy.
He exposed his transaction with Huo Wen.
What was originally a consensual agreement, after a little creative storytelling on his part, became a financial deal of a much more scandalous nature.
Wow… What a bombshell.
The students were left in stunned silence, unsure of whom to believe.
Huo Wen’s face turned bright red as he angrily pointed at the muscular man, cursing him for spreading lies.
But was it really a lie? The evidence would speak for itself.
The muscular man pulled out his chat history with Huo Wen, along with a voice recording of Huo Wen coaxing him into taking action in the room. The suggestive tone in the recording made it nearly impossible for Huo Wen to argue his way out of it.
As for the true mastermind, Bai Mo, no one even brought up his name.
The students were too shocked by the revelations unfolding before them. With Huo Wen and Mo Qun struggling to defend themselves, revealing even more of the truth would only make things worse.
Meanwhile, the muscular man had assumed “Bai Mo” was just a fake name Huo Wen had used—he never even considered that it could be referring to the polite young man who had knocked on the door earlier, pretending to be a motel staff member.
The motel owner, on the other hand, was nearly scared out of his wits.
He had simply been running his business, following proper check-in procedures—who would have thought his guests were involved in something like this? They had all registered separately, and he had never seen Huo Wen and the muscular man interact before.
While Huo Wen, Mo Qun, and the muscular man were personally responsible for their actions, the motel itself was still found lacking in hygiene standards and was ordered to temporarily shut down for improvements. The owner was devastated, practically on the verge of tears.
Once both the key players and the onlookers had been taken away, Jian Haocang finally emerged from the room with Bai Mo.
Seeing the motel owner sobbing pitifully, Bai Mo suddenly remembered his promise to compensate him. He transferred 5,000 yuan as reimbursement for the furniture that had been damaged by the muscular man.
Jian Haocang also sent the owner ten times the cost of a night’s stay, as payment for using the motel room earlier without prior notice.
The moment the transfer went through, the motel owner’s tears stopped.
To be honest, his small, run-down motel didn’t even make that much in a month. If he had to shut down for renovations, so be it—he’d take this as an opportunity to find a better location and start fresh.
Leaving the small, run-down motel, Jian Haocang took Bai Mo to his favorite barbecue restaurant for a feast.
“Mo Mo, slow down, it’s hot.” Jian Haocang gently fed the little snow ferret, his tenderness so overwhelming that if Bai Mo just looked up, he would find himself drowning in the deep affection in his lover’s eyes.
Unfortunately, Bai Mo—who had gone half a day without food and was now in full hungry ghost reincarnation mode—was too focused on the sizzling barbecue to notice.
The moment the waiter placed the food on the table, his eyes were glued to the meat. Amused, Jian Haocang helped Bai Mo wash his hands and prepared the barbecue, brushing it with sauce tailored to his taste.
The irresistible aroma filled the air, and if Jian Haocang hadn’t held him back, Bai Mo might have burned himself on the electric grill.
“Brother Haocang, this is really good! Try it!” Bai Mo took a small bite and, upon discovering the new dish’s deliciousness, eagerly picked up a large piece and held it to Jian Haocang’s lips. His clear apricot eyes sparkled with excitement, reflecting Jian Haocang’s handsome, scholarly face in the center of the light.
“It’s delicious. Mo Mo’s recommendation is always the best.” Jian Haocang’s genuine smile carried no trace of the gloom from earlier.
The special medicine from Xiao Bobao had indeed worked. Seeing his lover return to normal, Bai Mo happily used the barbecue Jian Haocang had prepared to offer flowers to Buddha, feeding him as a way to help replenish the weight he had lost while preparing for the Qing Design Competition.
By the end of the meal, seventy percent of the food had ended up in Jian Haocang’s stomach. Bai Mo’s reluctant sacrifice expression was so amusing that Xiao Bobao had to suppress a laugh.
After dinner, the two strolled back to campus, hand in hand. The night sky was scattered with twinkling stars, and the late summer breeze carried a hint of autumn as it brushed against their faces. The occasional chirping of cicadas added to the peaceful and beautiful atmosphere.
Bai Mo thoroughly enjoyed the moment. This was what true harmony between nature and humanity should feel like. With his beloved by his side, what more could he possibly ask for?
While the little snow ferret was fully content, his dear lover walking beside him was deep in thought, his mind racing as he meticulously refined his plans. Those who had targeted Bai Mo had overestimated themselves—and underestimated Bai Mo’s place in Jian Haocang’s heart.
Jian Haocang never asked for details about how Bai Mo had been tricked into going to the motel. As long as Bai Mo didn’t bring it up, he wouldn’t press for answers.
He hadn’t witnessed everything firsthand, but he wasn’t a fool. From the reactions and outcomes, he could piece together most of what had happened—and the culprits were none other than the now-disgraced Huo Wen and Mo Qun.
“If only I could walk hand in hand like this with Brother Haocang forever~” Bai Mo sighed. It had been a long time since he’d experienced such a tranquil stroll. Luckily, the plot had now reached the Qing Design Competition. Once that was over, the “Black Moonlight Redemption” storyline would be fully complete, and he would never have to deal with those brainless cannon fodder characters again.
“Just hang in there, Mo Mo. In two months, you’ll be free.” Xiao Bobao chimed in as a progress bar appeared in its system interface. This was yet another world where the mission could be completed effortlessly.
The so-called cannon fodder? They didn’t even have the chance to make trouble. Perfect.
“I will. From now on, I will always hold Mo Mo’s hand.” Even in death, I will never let go.
On their way back to C University, they had to pass by A University. Most of the student council members had been called in for investigation. Given the severity of the situation, the school had no choice but to take it seriously. Though the people involved hadn’t returned yet, the news had already spread. As gossip circulated, the truth became increasingly distorted, turning into wild rumors.
As Bai Mo and Jian Haocang passed by A University’s entrance, a sharp-eyed student recognized them. Rushing over, he asked with concern, “School heartthrob, how can you still be strolling around so leisurely? Have you heard about Huo Wen’s situation? It’s said to be related to your little wife, and the way they’re talking about it is really awful…”
Mid-sentence, the student suddenly realized that Jian Haocang was holding someone’s hand. That person stood right behind him—an exquisitely beautiful face that looked extremely familiar.
“What are they saying about me?” Bai Mo asked curiously. Oh? What rumors has Huo Wen spread about me this time?
His soft, sweet voice was identical to that of a lovely girl. The student took a closer look at his features—clearly, this was Bai Mo. But his outfit…
“Wait… You’re a guy?” The student was so shocked he froze on the spot.
Bai Mo looked down at his own clothes. They were clean, without even a trace of barbecue smoke. He looked back up at the student and said, “Yeah, I’m a guy. Is there a problem?”
A huge problem! The student’s expression twisted as if he were suffering from constipation. I used to think of Bai Mo as my dream girl…
The realization hit him hard. “Why didn’t you ever say you were a guy? And why do you wear skirts? Are you some kind of pervert…?”
“Watch your words,” Jian Haocang’s expression darkened.
His tone was sharp and unyielding. “What someone chooses to wear is their personal preference. You have no right to interfere. And whether Mo Mo is a boy or a girl has nothing to do with you.”
The sudden shift in Jian Haocang’s usually gentle demeanor was intimidating. The student flinched and didn’t dare to argue back.
Then, a pair of soft, delicate hands pressed against Jian Haocang’s chest in a soothing gesture. “Brother Haocang, don’t be mad. I’m not even angry,” Bai Mo reassured him before turning to the student. “Besides, I never said I was a girl. I told you guys not to call me ‘pretty little wife,’ but you all ignored me. And as for my relationship with Brother Haocang, he likes calling me his ‘little wife,’ and everyone else just followed along.”
Thinking back, the student realized Bai Mo was right. From beginning to end, it had been the gossiping bystanders who had assumed and spread the idea that Bai Mo was a girl.
Bai Mo’s relationship was with Jian Haocang. If even Jian Haocang didn’t care about Bai Mo’s gender, what right did he have to criticize him?
“Then… forget it.” The student wanted to say something but hesitated.
Then, remembering the rumors, his expression turned strange. He discreetly pulled Jian Haocang aside, avoiding Bai Mo, and lowered his voice to what he thought was a whisper only the two of them could hear.
“Everyone’s saying he’s cheating on you. You’d better check where Bai Mo went this afternoon.”
Instead of getting angry, Jian Haocang chuckled. The student, who wasn’t as tall as him, hadn’t looked up and thus missed the eerie yet polite smile on his face.
“Who told you that?” Jian Haocang asked.
The student, completely unaware of any danger, simply wanted to stand up for A University students. Without a care, he blurted out, “The rumor started around noon that you got cheated on. Then, by the evening, Huo Wen and Mo Qun got arrested, and even the school leadership got involved…”
Huo Wen, Mo Qun… Them again.
Jian Haocang silently adjusted his plans. He maintained his polite yet insincere smile as he thanked the student for the information and cleared up the rumor.
“Mo Mo was with me the whole day. Go back and tell them—spreading rumors comes with consequences. They’d better be mindful of their academic credits.”
The student suddenly remembered—Jian Haocang wasn’t just a member of the publicity department but also part of the disciplinary committee. He helped teachers oversee students’ academic credits, which directly impacted graduation and campus honors.
“Heh… heh… I was just repeating what I heard. You’re actually the first person I told! I’ll go straighten it out right now! Right away!”
