Chapter 32 – Sweetheart from the Sky: The Gentle CEO’s Sweet Kiss (32)
Butler Xu took the surveillance footage Bai Mo provided and reported it to the police. Meanwhile, Bai Mo learned from the small broadcaster that Madam Dan was about to arrive at Jianxin Corporation. Worried that she might escape, he decided to take action ahead of time.
Little did he know, every move he made was being closely watched by someone with ill intentions.
As soon as he acted alone, a hidden observer immediately relayed the news of his isolation to their employer. The moment Bai Mo’s taxi left the city center, the small broadcaster detected someone tailing him.
“Mo Mo, someone is following you,” Xiao Bobao warned. She didn’t dare mention that it was that vampire-like couple, fearing that their lingering shadow might still trigger Bai Mo’s trauma.
The little snow ferret, with its keen sense of smell, picked up the foul stench belonging to that couple. Bai Mo glanced at the green taxi maintaining a careful distance in the rearview mirror. After a moment of thought, a sly smile crept onto his lips as an interesting plan took shape in his mind.
“Watch closely, Xiao Bobao. This move is called ‘dog-eat-dog.’”
The benefits of reading were countless—sometimes, things didn’t need to be said aloud.
Although Xiao Bobaowas puzzled, she chose to trust Bai Mo. As long as she was around, she wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Since Mo Mo wanted to play, he could play however he liked.
The taxi driver was an experienced middle-aged woman. Bai Mo’s striking appearance and polite greeting made a good first impression, and she immediately developed a sense of fondness for the boy. Noticing that he was traveling alone to a relatively remote area, she asked him a few extra questions out of concern and caution.
In response to her kindness, Bai Mo gave a well-mannered smile, though a trace of sorrow lingered on his face. “My father is in the hospital. My stepmother took the family’s money and ran away. Someone said they saw her in this area, so I came to check…”
Although he didn’t elaborate, those few sentences were enough to evoke sympathy from the driver.
“What a poor child,” she thought to herself.
She comforted him, “Stay optimistic, dear. Everything will get better. Good people are rewarded, and bad people get what they deserve. That scheming stepmother of yours won’t have a good ending.”
The boy nodded firmly several times and said no more.
Xiao Bobao didn’t quite understand Bai Mo’s actions and asked, “Mo Mo, why did you tell the driver all that?” From her perspective, this taxi driver had nothing to do with the original storyline. Or… was she another hidden character?
“See? That’s why I always tell you to read more,” Bai Mo replied smugly. “This move is called ‘gaining the upper hand.’ Taxi drivers form a massive network. Before I get off, I’ll show the driver a picture of Madam Dan and ask her to keep an eye out. Even if we don’t catch her today, let’s see how she runs next time.”
A warm-hearted driver like this would definitely mention it to her fellow cabbies. Madam Dan had lived a life of luxury—taking a taxi was already her limit. There was no way she would lower herself to squeeze into a bus or subway.
Xiao Bobao was left dumbfounded by this analysis. “I thought you were playing on the second level, but it turns out you’re operating on the fifth!”
“Of course! What else would you expect from the smartest snow ferret of the clan?” Bai Mo boasted shamelessly.
“No doubt about it~” If he had a tail right now, it would be wagging proudly in the air.
The driver noticed the boy looking downcast and decided not to push the conversation further. However, she made a mental note to ask for the stepmother’s physical description later—she could always pass it along to her fellow drivers. If they spotted someone resembling the description, at least they could help the poor kid.
‘Such a pitiful child,’ she thought.
As the taxi drove onto an open road, the driver suddenly noticed a car following behind them. It had been trailing them since the city center. At first, she assumed it was just heading in the same direction—after all, it wasn’t every day two cars happened to share such a long route.
But was it really a coincidence, or was there something more sinister at play?
The driver decided to test it. She deliberately slowed down, knowing that if the car behind was truly just on the same route, it would overtake them. However, instead of passing, the other car slowed down as well, mirroring her speed.
Her heart sank. Something was definitely off. Were they after the boy?
“Kid, has your family offended anyone recently? That car behind us—it’s probably following you.”
She couldn’t say for certain that the people inside were criminals, but given the circumstances, the odds weren’t looking good. If the boy’s story was true, then trouble was almost guaranteed.
Bai Mo lifted his head, a momentary blankness in his eyes. He turned carefully to look out the rear window. Thanks to the driver’s maneuvering, the two cars were now close enough for him to get a good look inside.
In the passenger seat of the trailing taxi sat someone he recognized—his adoptive father.
The young boy collapsed onto the back seat in terror, launching into his performance.
“They… they are…” His soft voice trembled uncontrollably, a deep sorrow escaping from his throat. His hands clutched tightly at his pants, and an aura of despair enveloped him.
“They are my adoptive parents. Before, they sold me off because they had no money… I was lucky to escape and reunite with my real family, but they still won’t let me go… They won’t let me go… I can’t escape… I can’t escape…”
From a wretched cry of despair to a murmured surrender, the frail boy exuded a sense of utter hopelessness. The words were true, and the emotions weren’t faked either. In the original timeline, the real Bai Mo had never managed to escape, and even he himself had barely avoided that same tragic fate.
The taxi driver, moved by the boy’s agony, was brought to tears. What kind of disgusting adoptive parents were these? This was the modern era, yet human trafficking was still happening? And not just once—they were trying to do it again?!
As a mother herself, the driver loathed human traffickers. Stealing a child was no different from ripping the flesh off a mother’s body. It was unforgivable.
“Don’t cry, kid. Things aren’t as bad as they seem. We’ll call the police. I’ll help you shake them off.”
Bai Mo obediently nodded. The driver immediately dialed the emergency number and arranged a meeting point with the police—right near the Jianxin Company. Then, abandoning her previously slow and steady driving, she slammed on the gas. The car shot forward like it had been rocket-propelled.
The taxi behind them didn’t react immediately and hesitated for a few seconds. By the time they realized what was happening, Bai Mo’s car was already far ahead. They chased frantically for a long while before finally catching sight of the fleeing taxi again.
Thinking they had successfully lost their pursuers, Bai Mo’s driver had briefly slowed down—only for the trailing car to catch up once more. Seeing them closing in, she slammed the gas pedal again, pushing the car to its limit.
The roar of the speeding vehicle echoed across the empty road. A young boy emerged from the nearby greenery, brushing off the bits of leaves and grass clinging to his clothes. His beautiful amber almond-shaped eyes were slightly red—he had put too much emotion into his act earlier, nearly losing himself in it.
Watching the red taxi vanish into the distance like a shooting star, Xiao Bobao was left speechless. With admiration, she exclaimed, “That lady is truly something else. Not just any random stray cat or dog can compare. Those garbage adoptive parents can eat her dust!”
“Xiao Bobao!”
“Yes? What is it, Mo Mo?”
“Mind your manners, be polite, and stay elegant. No swearing, okay?” Bai Mo beamed at her.
“Uh… this…”
“Read more books, watch more news—stay cultured and well-mannered. You were the one who told me that, weren’t you?”
At long last, Bai Mo understood the joy of “educating” someone. He had been lectured countless times before, and now, finally, it was his turn. One word—satisfying!
