Chapter 28 – Sweetheart from the Sky: The Gentle CEO’s Sweet Kiss (28)
The stark white glow of the streetlamp cast a desolate light over the junkyard. Underneath the lamppost, the boy curled up alone, mosquitoes buzzing overhead, while rats and cockroaches occasionally scurried past his feet. He was an orphan abandoned by the world, drifting on the outskirts of its bustling existence.
He Yuchi’s heart clenched. Holding his breath, he approached the boy cautiously.
A broad, silent embrace enveloped him. The warmth of clean, smooth skin pressed against the boy’s chilled back. His clothes were damp from the night dew, and the long hours of exposure to the cold wind had left his body stiff. As the warmth drew near, he involuntarily shuddered, his unfocused gaze slowly sharpening.
He Yuchi didn’t speak. No amount of words could compare to quiet companionship. He would use his actions to give Mo Mo a sense of security.
Xiao Bobao checked Bai Mo’s now-stabilized mental state. Suddenly, she noticed a golden seal on his soul. She tentatively reached out to touch it—it wasn’t particularly strong, merely guarding something. Breathing a silent sigh of relief, she decided that as long as it didn’t negatively affect Mo Mo, it wasn’t an immediate concern. She could study it later.
No one knew how long they remained there, but eventually, Bai Mo’s icy body was warmed by the man’s embrace. He blinked, confusion clouding his eyes.
“Bro.. Brother… Yu… Yuchi…” The familiar scent of sandalwood allowed Bai Mo to instinctively call out He Yuchi’s name.
“I’m here,” He Yuchi answered gently, holding him even tighter.
Gurgle…
A small stomach growled in protest. Realizing the sound came from himself, Bai Mo’s face flushed with embarrassment.
He Yuchi placed a soothing hand on the boy’s stomach and spoke in a soft voice, “Mo Mo, I’m hungry. Will you eat with me?”
Bai Mo’s gaze landed on the scabbed-over bite mark on He Yuchi’s wrist, and a wave of guilt and discomfort swelled within him.
The male lead was always like this—gentle, attentive, never speaking harshly to him, never embarrassing him, always indulging him, even in his unreasonable moments.
His eyes, sore from shedding too many tears, now stung with dryness. Yet, at this moment, fresh warmth threatened to spill over once again.
“Why are you so good to me…?” Bai Mo murmured before turning and throwing himself into He Yuchi’s embrace. “If you’re not here in the future, I won’t know what to do…”
He Yuchi booked a hotel and ordered a late-night snack. While Mo Mo was in the bathroom taking a shower, he called Mother He and Dan Sihe to reassure them.
“I found Mo Mo. Yes, he’s fine, nothing unexpected happened. I’ll let him eat something first before bringing him back, so don’t worry…”
The sound of running water in the bathroom ceased. Before He Yuchi could put down his phone, the boy emerged from the bathroom wearing a bathrobe, his damp hair still dripping.
He Yuchi beckoned him over, and Bai Mo obediently walked up to let him dry his hair.
Old Master Dan had managed to sleep through the night, but as people get older, they tend to sleep less. Having already rested too much during the day, he found himself unable to sleep in the late hours of the night.
When He Yuchi called Dan Sihe, the old master happened to hear footsteps and immediately raised his voice, urgently asking, “Is that Mo Mo? Did you find Mo Mo? Where is he?”
Hearing the anxious voice from the other end of the phone, Bai Mo quickly responded, “I’m here, Dad. I’m sorry for making you all worry…”
Thinking about how Old Master Dan had ended up in the hospital because of him, Bai Mo was overwhelmed with guilt. His nose stung, and his usually sweet voice carried a sobbing tone. “Dad, are you okay? I’m with Brother Yuchi now. I’m fine, so please don’t worry~”
Saying he wasn’t worried would be a lie, but at least Bai Mo had been found. His voice was clear, and He Yuchi—someone Old Master Dan trusted—was by his side. This reassured him somewhat. Looking at the clock on the wall, which pointed to 3:30 AM, the old master, feeling sorry for the child, reminded Bai Mo to eat and rest early. He told him it was okay to visit later the next day.
Bai Mo, holding back tears, agreed to everything. After some coaxing from Dan Sihe and He Yuchi, he finally hung up the phone.
The next day at noon, Old Master Dan waited anxiously by the hospital room door. Last night, he had said it was fine if Bai Mo came later, but in reality, he couldn’t put his mind at ease without seeing him in person.
Click— The doorknob turned. The old master sat up, watching as a hand wearing a gold bracelet pushed the door open. But it wasn’t Bai Mo who entered—it was Dan Xiaowen and Madam Dan, carrying lunch.
“Old Dan, Wenwen got up early to make this soup for you. It’s her way of showing concern—why don’t you give it a try?” Madam Dan was here as a mediator.
Yesterday, Dan Xiaowen had come home with a bright red slap mark on her face, which had given Madam Dan quite a shock.
Upon learning that the one who had hit her was the old master, she had been furious at her daughter’s lack of foresight. If she wanted to bring Bai Mo down, she should have picked the right moment. Saying such things in front of Bai Mo’s fiance, Dan Sihe, and the old master himself was practically asking for a beating.
However, no matter what, Dan Xiaowen was still her daughter. The most important thing now was to earn the old master’s forgiveness. And so, first thing in the morning, she had urged Dan Xiaowen to make soup as a peace offering, accompanying her to help smooth things over.
The old master felt irritated the moment he saw Dan Xiaowen. If it weren’t for her meddling, Mo Mo wouldn’t have suffered yesterday. No matter how eloquently Madam Shan spoke, he kept a wooden expression and remained silent.
Dan Xiaowen’s face was stiff from forcing a smile. She had said all the nice words she could think of, apologized repeatedly, yet in her heart, she cursed Bai Mo, wishing he had died out there and never returned.
Click— The hospital room door opened again. The old master stretched his neck to look over. Though he hadn’t seen the person yet, he heard a soft and distinct voice calling, “Dad,” as someone walked in.
“Dad, I’m back~” The boy, looking fresh and clean, entered with a bright smile, running over to sit by the bed, apologizing and acting spoiled with the old master.
The old man’s expression changed in an instant. From the moment Bai Mo appeared, his face never lost its smile. He couldn’t stop repeating, “As long as you’re back, that’s all that matters.”
