Chapter 14 – Sweetheart from the Sky: The Gentle CEO’s Sweet Kiss (14)
After disrupting Bai Mo’s plans multiple times, He Yuning was finally caught and received two light smacks on his little bottom.
The child was indignant—he had been protecting Brother Mo, so why was Brother Mo punishing him? His skin didn’t even turn red, yet he ran off with teary eyes to seek his older brother’s help, completely forgetting their previous grudges.
Ever since Bai Mo and He Yuchi confirmed their relationship, the house had been filled with pink, romantic bubbles.
The little ferret’s blushing episodes increased exponentially each day. Being lovey-dovey wasn’t the problem—the problem was the big, bright third-wheel in the house. Every time Bai Mo and He Yuchi tried to hold hands or hug, eight out of ten times, a self-righteous little justice warrior would jump out mid-way.
“Maybe I should just get a job,” Bai Mo sighed in frustration after yet another interruption. He couldn’t get mad at a child, but as a man, he felt he should take on the responsibility of earning money to support their household. That way, He Yuchi wouldn’t have to suffer with him in the future.
After discussing with Xiao Bobao system, they settled on a profession that balanced both growth and income—a bookstore clerk. It would allow him to read and learn while earning money—a perfect two-in-one solution.
“Trust me, you can’t go wrong,” Xiao Bobao said confidently.
However, Bai Mo, who got a headache just from looking at books, raised his hand in protest. In the end, he lost to a series of human common sense quiz questions set by the system and had to obediently accept this “ideal” career path.
“Reading a lot may not guarantee success, but if you don’t read at all, Mo Mo, you won’t even know how to be a proper person,” Xiao Bobao remarked.
In the end, thanks to his obedient and beautiful appearance—as well as the reputation of his soon-to-be alma mater—Bai Mo successfully became an employee at a newly opened classical-style bookstore. Across the street was a tea house, and under the influence of this refined environment, his temperament miraculously improved.
Compared to Bai Mo’s smooth entry into the job market, He Yuchi’s experience was full of twists and turns.
Originally, they had planned to apply as bookstore clerks together.
Everything was set, and they were only one step away from signing the contract.
However, just before the final confirmation, the store manager suddenly told He Yuchi that he didn’t meet the requirements and even “kindly” recommended him to work at Dan Corporation.
As it turned out, both the bookstore and the tea house were owned by Dan Sihou.
When reviewing the applicants, he was momentarily stunned upon seeing the name He Yuchi. At first, he assumed it was just someone with the same name, but after conducting a background check, he realized it was indeed the He Yuchi he knew.
Wasn’t the He family stabilized already?
How had He Yuchi fallen to the point of working at a bookstore?
Owing to the friendship between their mothers, Dan Sihou extended an invitation to He Yuchi for an assistant position. He Yuchi was quite capable, and if Dan Sihou could bring him into his team, it would also make his own workload easier.
However, He Yuchi refused the offer.
Unwilling to give up, Dan Sihou specifically cleared an afternoon from his schedule to visit the He family.
When he arrived at the He residence, Mother He was visibly surprised. It had been two years since she had last seen Dan Sihou—partly because she disliked his pretentious stepmother, and partly because he had been increasingly busy after taking over the company.
“Xiao He, come in quickly,” Mother He warmly invited him inside. As Dan Sihou stepped in and looked around, he didn’t notice any signs of decline in the household.
“Hold onto the railing when going downstairs, don’t jump~”
From the staircase came He Yuning’s giggling, mixed with a few clear, youthful notes.
Dan Sihou’s heart stirred. He instinctively looked up, curious about the source of the voice.
Mother He smiled. “That’s Mo Mo. If it weren’t for that child, Ning Ning might never have made it back.”
“I see.”
Although he found the voice pleasant, Dan Sihou didn’t forget the real reason for his visit.
When he explained his purpose and offered his assistance, it was Mother He’s turn to be surprised. Difficulties? If their family was struggling, why was she unaware of it?
Then, she recalled Bai Mo looking for a job and chuckled. “That’s nonsense. Yuchi is just chasing after his future wife. Once he wins over his partner, he’ll return to the company.”
Of course, there was another reason she didn’t say out loud—the mastermind behind their previous crisis had yet to be uncovered. He Yuchi was still young and lacked the experience of Father He. Given the recent turbulence in the company, bringing him back now wouldn’t be wise.
Dan Sihou nodded in understanding. Just as he lifted his tea for a sip, a delicate-looking boy came down the stairs.
His radiant smile made Dan Sihou lose focus for a moment.
“Auntie, do we still have those little bear biscuits?”
Bai Mo rubbed his growling stomach, feeling a little embarrassed. He hadn’t expected playing with an energetic little cub to be so exhausting—it was truly nonstop.
“Of course, of course! There’s plenty in the fridge. Take as much as you want, Mo Mo.”
“Thank you, Auntie~”
Bai Mo’s almond eyes sparkled as he cheerfully bounced toward the kitchen. Even after his figure disappeared, Dan Sihou still hadn’t looked away.
“Auntie He, is his name Bai Mo?”
Dan Sihou’s gaze was fixed on the kitchen, deep and intense.
“Yes. Mo Mo is a good child, but also a pitiful one…”
At the mention of Bai Mo’s hardships and virtues, Mother He could talk for half an hour without stopping.
Just as Bai Mo came back carrying a plate of little bear biscuits, his scalp tingled with an odd sense of foreboding. He turned his head and saw a handsome man sitting beside Mother He, staring at him with an intense gaze.
Instinctively, he shielded his biscuits, his clear almond eyes glaring back—No staring! These are my biscuits!
The young boy puffed up like an angry pufferfish, making Dan Sihou chuckle. A sense of fondness and tenderness arose in his heart—how adorable.
Dan Sihou was a man who rarely smiled, his face usually set in an icy expression. Seeing him smile now made Mother He feel a sense of crisis. Could it be that Xiao He had taken a liking to Mo Mo? Was he planning to steal her future daughter-in-law?!
Just then, the sound of a key turning in the lock echoed from the door.
Hearing the familiar footsteps, the young boy’s face lit up with joy. His eyes, bright as the stars and moon, shone dazzlingly.
“Yu Chi is back~”
But the moment his gaze landed on Dan Sihou, his wariness returned.
Even though Yu Chi had gone out to buy him his favorite little cakes, it didn’t mean he was willing to give up his little bear biscuits.
He Yuchi entered the house, only to see the young boy clutching his biscuits tightly, tiptoeing toward him as if sneaking around.
“Did my little cakes come back?”
Bai Mo whispered like a little thief, afraid someone else might overhear him.
He Yuchi ruffled his hair and responded in the same hushed tone, “I bought them. Does Mo Mo want to eat them upstairs or here on the first floor?”
“Upstairs.”
Bai Mo disliked the way Dan Sihou was scrutinizing him, as if he were some kind of shady character. But he was a proper, well-behaved snow mink—his conscience was clear!
Xiao Bobao sweetly chimed in with a reminder:
“That’s the male supporting character, Dan Sihou, the stepbrother of the female lead, Dan Xiaowen.”
Bai Mo had seen photos of Dan Sihou before, but ever since he and He Yuchi had started their sweet and sticky romance, this devoted little mink no longer had eyes for anyone else.
No one compared to his Yu Chi—not in smiles, not in gentleness.
Dan Sihou? Not even close.
“Alright.”
With one hand carrying the cake, and the other holding Bai Mo’s hand, He Yuchi led him inside.
As they entered the living room, He Yuchi noticed Dan Sihou sitting beside Mother He.
His expression darkened immediately.
Unhappy, he stepped in front of Bai Mo, blocking Dan Sihou’s intense gaze.
“Yu Chi, this is Xiao He,” Mother He interjected, sensing the tension crackling in the air. “You two used to play together all the time. Do you remember?”
Usually kind and polite, He Yuchi did something unprecedented—he refused to acknowledge the so-called acquaintance.
His voice was cold as ice.
“I don’t remember.”
So don’t try to act familiar. And don’t even think about coveting my Mo Mo.
