The young man’s head felt heavy. As soon as he opened his eyes, a sleazy-looking man came into view. The next moment, a forceful shove sent him crashing backward. His lower back slammed against the table, and a sharp pain shot through his tailbone, making him let out a muffled groan.
Bai Mo glared at the man, his beautiful eyes shimmering with fury. His slightly disheveled light brown hair, combined with his vulnerable yet stubborn expression, made him look like a newly weaned kitten baring its tiny teeth in an attempt to intimidate an enemy—only to be completely lacking in threat. Instead, this only fueled the man’s violent desires.
The man’s eyes gleamed with excitement. He hadn’t expected the boy he had paid so much money for to be this breathtaking. His investment was clearly worth it. Rubbing his hands together, he smirked lewdly, his intentions written all over his face.
“I’m warning you—stay back!” Bai Mo’s voice was soft and husky, his throat unbearably dry from dehydration. As he took in the man’s disgusting face, his stomach churned.
So ugly. My eyes are burning.
“You don’t get a say in this.” The sleazy man lunged at Bai Mo. But before he could get close, Bai Mo swiftly dodged and stuck out his foot, tripping him. Seizing the moment, he pulled out the self-defense pepper spray he had exchanged from the system store and aimed it directly at the man’s hideous face.
“AARGH—!”
The man’s head slammed into the edge of the table, blood gushing from the wound. It was hard to tell whether the cut on the back of his head or the pepper spray burning his eyes hurt more.
Bai Mo grabbed a baseball bat by the door, holding it defensively as he watched the man struggle to stand. The man’s expression was twisted with rage, and despite his unsteady footing, he still attempted to charge at Bai Mo. Instinctively, the boy swung the bat—
CLANG—
The baseball bat slipped from his hands, and the sleazy man collapsed to the floor.
Threat neutralized.
Bai Mo let out a sigh of relief. His arms were aching terribly. Rolling up his sleeves, he noticed that the areas where the man had grabbed him were red and swollen. He barely touched the irritated skin before hissing in pain, his teeth clenched.
“System, what’s the situation now?” Bai Mo called out in his consciousness.
The broadcast system responded apologetically, “Mo Mo, I’m sorry. Due to low energy, there was an error in the transmission timing. The Black Moonlight storyline is almost over.”
Bai Mo: “???”
“You’re joking, right?” Bai Mo swallowed hard, unable to believe what he was hearing.
“This is no joke. We’re doomed! Wuwuwu…” the system whimpered.
It had already bound itself to multiple hosts, yet none had managed to complete their tasks. This meant that not only had it failed to earn energy, but it had even lost quite a bit in the process. If this mission ended in failure as well, both Bai Mo and the system would be completely screwed.
The system was named Bobao and originally served as the announcer for the Supreme God System. After the Supreme God System fell in love, Bobao grew envious and eagerly tried to pursue romance. However, every time she went on a blind date or attempted a relationship, other systems would interfere, sabotaging her efforts. She repeatedly failed, yet persisted, only to fail again and again. Frustrated and heartbroken, she buried herself in the system’s library.
After reading her 3,760th novel about a White Moonlight who was misunderstood as Black Moonlight and had her lover stolen, she deeply resonated with the injustice. Determined to restore the honor of White Moonlights, she requested permission from the Supreme God System to descend into the lower realms for training. The Supreme God System adored her and not only granted her request but also gifted her a notebook containing his most treasured mission notes.
Thus, Bobao embarked on her mission. However, every host she bound to lacked combat power. Not only were they overshadowed by the rising female leads who stole their male leads, but they were also repeatedly trampled upon. With every failed mission, Bobao not only failed to accumulate energy but rapidly depleted her reserves. Just as she was on the verge of disappearing, she was captured by Bai Mo.
Bai Mo was a pure white snow ferret, curious and playful by nature. During one of his playful escapades, he unintentionally captured Bobao, who was on the brink of energy exhaustion. Due to the unique fluctuations of Bai Mo’s soul, Bobao grasped her last opportunity and forcefully bound him as her host. The two struck a deal: Bai Mo would assist the system in completing its missions, and in return, upon completion, Bai Mo would be free to do as he pleased in that dimension.
This was Bai Mo’s first time undertaking a mission, and he hadn’t even had the chance to receive the storyline before Bobao —running low on energy—could no longer sustain itself and had to rush into the world.
This dimension was called [Sweetheart from the Sky: The Gentle CEO’s Sweet Kiss.] Bai Mo was the male lead, He Yuchi’s, school junior and his White Moonlight. Bai Mo came from a parasitic vampire family—his parents were gamblers, drinkers, and womanizers who not only neglected their child but also exploited both ends of the family spectrum. They drained the elderly’s pensions while simultaneously oppressing young Bai Mo, forcing him to earn money for them.
After Bai Mo’s grandparents passed away, all of the family’s burdens fell onto his shoulders. When he was admitted to university, he cut ties with his parasitic parents in order to continue his studies. Years of oppression had left him deeply insecure, so he chose to hide his background from his classmates, pretending he came from a middle-class family that doted on him. Even his part-time jobs were merely an “experience of life.”
By a twist of fate, Bai Mo met the male lead, He Yuchi. He Yuchi admired Bai Mo for his resilience and refusal to let his background define him. As the two spent more time together, they slowly found themselves drawn to each other.
Ever since meeting the male lead, Bai Mo had started working in more upscale part-time jobs and earning significantly more money. When his vampire-like parents found out, they came to him demanding money. If he refused, they threatened to expose his true background to the male lead.
Bai Mo panicked. He didn’t want to go back to the days of being looked down upon. As he kept giving them money, their greed only grew. Eventually, they caught the attention of the male lead’s business rivals, who saw an opportunity. These people used Bai Mo’s parents to threaten him into stealing confidential documents from the male lead’s home. Bai Mo refused, so they escalated the threat—kidnapping the male lead’s three-year-old brother, He Yuning, and holding him hostage. If Bai Mo dared to call the police, they would kill the child and ruin Bai Mo’s reputation, turning him into a hated outcast.
One wrong step led to another, and Bai Mo found himself trapped in a path of no return. While attempting to steal the documents, he was caught by the male lead. In the ensuing struggle, he accidentally injured the male lead’s leg. After handing over the documents, the business rivals betrayed him, selling him off to a foreign country.
He Yuning was also trafficked overseas. In a desperate attempt to protect the child, Bai Mo met a tragic end on the streets of a foreign land. Traumatized by the experience, the young He Yuning developed selective mutism. By the time he was rescued, he was too scared to explain what had happened, and Bai Mo’s name remained forever tainted.
After the injury, the male lead’s personality changed drastically. However, with the unwavering support of his junior, Dan Xiaowen—who was also the female lead of this world—he gradually regained his footing. Day after day, she stayed by his side, helping him both in life and work. Under their teamwork, his company rose back to its peak, and He Yuning’s mutism was eventually cured. The male lead’s family elders finally accepted Dan Xiaowen, and in the end, the two held a grand, fairy-tale-like wedding.
Bai Mo’s mission was to earn the male lead’s forgiveness and clear his name of the crimes he never actually committed.
But now, due to the transmission error, everything was already too late.
Hearing the little system Bobao sobbing miserably, Bai Mo lost all his frustration. He was rather open-minded—after all, he had already died once. At worst, he would simply return to square one. He even found himself comforting the system:
“It’s fine. Your Lord God wouldn’t just sit back and watch you disappear. If we really fail this mission, I’m sure he’ll summon you back.”
“R-really?” Bobao , looking like a teary-eyed baby bear, sniffled.
“Of course! By the way, what part of the story are we at now?” Bai Mo asked. Even if he failed the mission, he could still live out this lifetime. The mission would only be evaluated when he left this world. As long as he was alive, he might as well enjoy it.
This was his first time being human, after all!
He grinned sweetly, shifting his weight between his feet. Walking on two legs was fun~
Perhaps influenced by Bai Mo’s optimism, the system’s despair gradually faded. It pulled up the storyline of this world and reported:
“Right now, the Black Moonlight has already stolen the documents and been sold overseas. Based on the upcoming plot, there’s a high chance we won’t be able to return to the male lead’s side.”
“Mhm, mhm~” The boy nodded enthusiastically. “That’s fine! Let’s just go eat delicious food and have fun. We’re not going back.”
Just as he spoke, a faint whimper came from the darkest corner of the room. Bai Mo’s hunting instincts kicked in. Gripping the baseball bat tightly, he turned his sharp gaze toward the source of the sound.
“Who’s there? Come out.”
There was definitely someone there. And from the scent… it seemed to be a child?
“It’s me…”
A voice even softer than Bai Mo’s rang out. A delicate, porcelain-like child peeked out timidly, his large, fearful eyes locking onto Bai Mo’s. But the moment his gaze fell on the unconscious sleazy man on the floor, his fear turned into admiration.
‘Big brother is so strong! He defeated the bad guy!’
“Ahhh—so cute!” The beauty-obsessed Bai Mo screamed internally, nearly shocking the Broadcast system out of existence.
He hurried over and scooped the child into his arms. The little one was warm, soft, and covered in fine baby fluff. His chubby cheeks were smooth and tender—absolutely adorable!
He Yuning relaxed his brows and snuggled into Bai Mo’s embrace, as if inviting him to pat his face.
The little boy had grown up in a world of love and comfort—he had never seen anything as terrifying as a kidnapping. The ordeal had scared him senseless, and now he was being sold off to a foreign land, completely lost in an unfamiliar environment. The only person he knew here, even if only barely, was Bai Mo. And Bai Mo had just defeated the bad guy and rescued them. To He Yuning, Bai Mo became his sole anchor in this nightmare, someone to cling to and depend on.
“Click! Click! Click!” Bobao system frantically snapped pictures.
Bai Mo had yet to see his own reflection since arriving in this world. But from the system’s perspective, it was just one big, soft pink dumpling holding another small, soft pink dumpling. This scene had to be documented! Even if they failed the mission and the Lord God summoned her back, she could still keep these as precious memories.
“This is the male lead’s younger brother,” the system reminded him. In the original storyline, three-year-old He Yuning had suffered greatly before being rescued. Worse, he had even been harmed by that disgusting man earlier.
Reading through He Yuning’s tragic fate, Bai Mo gritted his teeth in fury. ‘They dared to hurt a child? They were worse than beasts!’
To Bai Mo, cubs were the future of any species. In the animal kingdom, every young one was priceless and had to be fiercely protected.
Bai Mo gently set He Yuning down, then turned and strode toward the unconscious man. Lifting his foot, he was ready to cripple the bastard.
‘D*mn it! No one should ever harm an innocent, precious child!’
However, He Yuning misunderstood Bai Mo’s actions, thinking he was about to be abandoned. Terrified, he opened his mouth and wailed.
But before he could let out a second cry—
He suddenly choked, his face turning an abnormal shade of red.
“System, what’s going on?!” Bai Mo spun around in alarm.
“What’s wrong? Where do you feel uncomfortable?”
Bai Mo had no time to think about anything else. He quickly rushed over, but the moment he touched the child, he realized that He Yuning’s body temperature had suddenly skyrocketed—his whole body was burning hot.
“It’s a fever caused by shock. We need to get him to a hospital immediately,” Bobao system diagnosed. Unfortunately, due to its low energy levels, it couldn’t activate any healing functions.
“Then hurry up, we can’t waste any time!”
Bai Mo scooped He Yuning into his arms and sprinted outside. The system quickly pulled up a map to guide him.
Before leaving, the boy shot a glare at the unconscious man on the floor. Unwilling to let things slide, he kicked him twice for good measure—then snatched his wallet.
