Another daybreak.
Affected by her emotions, Lu Lili didn’t sleep well throughout the night, so she got up early.
However, there was someone who got up even earlier than her.
Just as she finished grooming herself, there was a knock on the door.
“Little Brother Lu?” The person outside the door called.
Upon hearing this address, Lu Lili knew who was knocking on the door.
She calmly walked over and opened the door.
She saw Pei Yijian dressed in a complex black robe, his ink-black hair tied up high on his head, with the remaining strands of hair falling like fine silk on his back.
He slightly lowered his head, his sharp and handsome features clearly defined, and there was an excited gleam in his captivating eyes.
As soon as Lu Lili came out, she met his bright gaze.
She was stunned for a moment.
Because in that moment, she had the illusion that his eyes were filled with nothing but her.
She chuckled at herself inwardly, but her face remained calm.
“Brother Pei, is there something important this early in the morning?”
She opened the door without hesitation and continued, “Why don’t you come in and we can talk?”
The unexpected invitation made Pei Yijian tighten his fingertips and his heartbeat inexplicably quickened.
He pretended to hesitate for a few seconds, to show that he wasn’t the kind of person who casually entered a woman’s room, before striding inside.
However, Lu Lili didn’t notice this. She turned her back and started making tea.
Seating herself at the round table, she poured a cup of tea for Pei Yijian and sat across from him, quietly waiting for him to explain his purpose.
Pei Yijian was immersed in his excited little thoughts and didn’t realize that Lu Lili was unusually calm today.
He drank the tea that Lu Lili had poured for him in one gulp and then smiled brightly as he spoke, “Little Brother Lu, we’re about to leave for Huan’yang. If you want to come along, I can reluctantly give you a ride.”
Pei Yijian intentionally said it this way.
He couldn’t reveal that he already knew she was going to Huan’yang, right?
He thought happily that if she followed him, she would receive his protection and wouldn’t have to worry about food and lodging. She surely wouldn’t refuse.
Unexpectedly, without the slightest hesitation, Lu Lili shook her head at him.
She calmly smiled, saying, “No need, thank you. I wish you a smooth journey.”
“??!” Pei Yi stood there dumbfounded.
It felt as if a bucket of cold water was poured over his head, extinguishing all the excitement and joy in his heart.
The smile gradually disappeared from his face as his probing gaze locked onto Lu Lili’s fair and delicate face. Slowly, Pei Yijian finally realized that something was amiss.
Though she was still smiling, her smile didn’t reach her eyes. It was too calm and indifferent, and her clear eyes, like spring water, seemed to have dimmed slightly.
However, before this, every time she smiled, her eyes would light up, lively and captivating, attracting everyone’s attention.
“Why?” Pei Yijian finally asked after a long while.
He lowered his head, and the sparkle in his eyes vanished.
Lu Lili tilted her head in a slightly puzzled manner. She had never told him that she was going to Huan’yang.
So, wasn’t it normal for her not to go with him?
Nevertheless, Lu Lili answered seriously, “I left the palace to find my brother. Now that I’ve found him, it’s natural for me to stay with him.”
Pei Yi moved his lips, “But…”
—Your brother has no intention of taking care of you!
He held back from saying the rest, fearing that he would be misunderstood as trying to sow discord.
“But what?” Lu Lili focused her gaze on him, waiting for him to continue.
