Chapter 43 – Ancient Era: A Dance to Enchant the City—The Emperor’s Celestial Fairy (13)

After a full meal, what was he supposed to do again?

Bai Tang was full and satisfied, and drowsiness quickly set in. He yawned, rubbing his sleepy eyes. Instinctively, he started taking off his outer robe, preparing to go to bed.

“Tang Tang…” Jiang Liangwu’s throat tightened, his gaze dark and intense.

“W-What…?” Bai Tang was all too familiar with that look. In his past life, Hudson had looked at him the same way, and the outcome had always left him “suffering.”

“It’s time for us to rest,” Jiang Liangwu said as he closed in step by step.

Bai Tang had nowhere left to retreat. He grabbed the blanket and curled up in the corner of the bed.

“I-I’m tired. I’ll sleep alone,” he stammered, pulling the blanket over his head, creating a small cocoon-like tent.

“Tang Tang, I’m tired too.” Jiang Liangwu reached out to pull the blanket away, but Bai Tang clung to it stubbornly, refusing to let go.

Jiang Liangwu didn’t dare to use too much force, afraid of hurting Bai Tang, and so the two remained locked in a stalemate.

In a panic, an idea flashed through Bai Tang’s mind.

Suddenly, the small cocoon-like tent deflated.

Jiang Liangwu’s eyes widened in shock. “Tang Tang!”

He frantically searched under the blanket, but aside from the red wedding robe, there was nothing.

Where is he? Where did he go…?

“Tang Tang! Tang Tang…!”

Just then—

“Squeak, squeak… squeak squeak!”

A small, furry creature tumbled out of the folds of the blanket. Instinctively, Jiang Liangwu caught it in his hands.

A moment ago, Bai Tang had vanished into thin air, and now, a tiny squirrel had suddenly appeared.

A bold thought struck Jiang Liangwu.

He asked softly, “Tang Tang… is that you?”

“Squeak—” The little squirrel responded with a chittering sound.

Jiang Liangwu cracked open a peanut and tossed it toward the squirrel.

The fluffy little creature leaped up, caught the peanut skillfully in its tiny paws, and stuffed it into its mouth.

One man and one squirrel played happily together, and soon, the plate of peanuts was empty.

The small squirrel, now full and round-bellied, scurried over to the corner of the bed, curling up with its back facing Jiang Liangwu.

Jiang Liangwu grew concerned when he noticed the little squirrel had stopped moving. Just as he was about to check on it—

All of a sudden, the squirrel’s figure flickered.

A moment later, where the squirrel had been lying, a bare Bai Tang reappeared—fast asleep, his back still turned toward Jiang Liangwu.

The sight of smooth, flawless skin instantly filled Jiang Liangwu’s vision.

In that moment, he felt an overwhelming heat rush through him, as though something was about to burst from his nose.

He reached out, running his hand along the soft skin of Bai Tang’s back.

Even in his sleep, Bai Tang shivered slightly from the touch.

After a while, Jiang Liangwu returned, his body still damp from the water. He lifted the blanket and slid in beside Bai Tang, pulling him into his embrace.

Bai Tang immediately sensed the chill against his skin. He frowned and pushed against Jiang Liangwu, but no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t move him. In his restless squirming, Jiang Liangwu’s cold bath had been completely wasted—his body temperature quickly rising again.

Jiang Liangwu briefly considered taking another cold shower, but before he could act on it, Bai Tang unconsciously nestled closer to the warmth, burrowing himself deeper into Jiang Liangwu’s arms.

Jiang Liangwu couldn’t bear to push him away. Instead, he adjusted his position to make Bai Tang more comfortable. It was a sweet kind of torment.

His mind drifted to the secret he had just uncovered—his precious treasure was actually a squirrel spirit. Who else knew about this?

The truth was too unbelievable to share. He couldn’t let this secret get out. But the unwavering care and affection that the entire Prime Minister’s household showed Bai Tang was real.

So, was Bai Tang truly the Prime Minister’s son? Or was that just what they claimed to the outside world? Could it be that even Prime Minister Bai himself was unaware of Bai Tang’s true identity? And if that were the case—where was the real Bai Tang?

Jiang Liangwu pressed a gentle kiss to the crown of Bai Tang’s head, right where his hair whorled.

No matter who you are, I will protect you. I will love you.

I swear it with my life!
