Chapter 399 – The Aloof Male God’s Exclusive CP – The Prairie Dog Scream (06)
“Who is this person…?”
“Her voice sounds so nice. You can tell she must be a pretty girl just by listening…”
“Bullshit. Don’t you know that voices and looks are usually inversely proportional?”
…
Comments like these rippled through the crowd. Bai Tang lifted his head and looked at Wei Rushuang, who stood on the podium looking slightly awkward.
“Qiu’er, isn’t the female lead supposed to be in the class next door? Did she walk into the wrong classroom, or did I?” Bai Tang asked in confusion.
“According to the original plot, yes. Maybe the world bugged out again,” Qiu’er replied. “But it’s not the first time things haven’t followed the script. I believe in you, Tang Tang.”
“Mm-hmm~” Bai Tang lowered his head and continued chatting with Qi Yuanxu.
He neither liked nor disliked the female lead of this world. He had no intention of sabotaging her—so long as she didn’t come looking for trouble, they could each live their own peaceful lives.
The homeroom teacher scanned the classroom. Among all the students, only Bai Tang had his head lowered. Remembering that Bai Tang was introverted, the teacher thought that assigning him a deskmate might help him open up.
“Student Wei, you can sit next to Student Bai,” the teacher said, pointing to the empty seat beside Bai Tang.
Wei Rushuang wasn’t picky. She quickly walked over and sat down next to him.
Just as she set down her backpack and was about to greet him, she froze.
The boy’s skin was fair like jade. His curled lashes trembled slightly as he blinked. Beneath them was a straight, elegant nose, and pale pink lips gently pressed together, as if he were troubled by something.
He was truly adorable.
Inside her head, Wei Rushuang let out a prairie-dog scream: AW SL! I swear, angels really do exist in this world!
And Bai Tang really was facing a dilemma at the moment.
He was staring at the menu on his phone, deeply troubled—what should he eat tonight?
Xiao A seemed to have taken root in the sea of books and hadn’t appeared for days. With no one to keep him in check, Qiu’er had completely let himself go.
Ding— Your foodie Qiu’er is now online.
“Tang Tang, barbecue is so good! Grilled oysters are super delicious! I want them, I want them—order them, order them~”
Bai Tang didn’t really like meat, but Qiu’er did. In order to get his meat, Qiu’er shamelessly acted cute and coquettish.
Qiu’er: Tang Tang has already seen every side of me. What’s wrong with acting cute? That’s just Tang Tang spoiling me.
And sure enough, Bai Tang did spoil Qiu’er.
Qiu’er called out the dishes one by one, and Bai Tang placed the order on his phone without hesitation.
“Tang Tang is the best~”
“As long as Qiu’er’s happy~”
The boy smiled faintly, dimples appearing and disappearing on his cheeks.
Seeing two-thirds of his profile, Wei Rushuang was utterly stunned. She rested her chin on one hand and stared at Bai Tang.
So handsome…
After confirming the order, Bai Tang turned his head—
—and was met with a pretty face openly fangirling right in front of him.
Bai Tang: That scared the squirrel to death!!!
Seeing the boy react like a frightened little animal, Wei Rushuang felt a twinge of guilt. She took out some candy she carried with her and placed it in front of him.
“Hi, my name is Wei Rushuang. I’m a transfer student.”
Bai Tang steadied himself. “Hello, I’m Bai Tang.”
The boy’s voice was soft, like marshmallow soaked in warm milk—gentle enough to melt a person’s heart.
As a voice actor, it was rare to come across a voice she truly liked—especially when the owner of that voice was also good-looking. It was practically a gift from heaven.
Wei Rushuang had just finished working on a short drama, and she felt Bai Tang’s voice was perfect for voice acting. She immediately began enthusiastically persuading him to join the voice acting club.
Bai Tang stared at the overly familiar female lead who had grabbed onto him and was chattering nonstop, utterly dumbfounded.
Female lead, do you realize your character setting has completely collapsed?!
As usual, the homeroom teacher said a few words, then talked about important matters concerning their junior year.
“Based on your years of study, you only have one year left. In your senior year, most of you will be going out for internships. Cherish these last days—once you enter society, you’ll realize just how happy your school days were…”
The bell rang. The homeroom teacher checked the time—it was already nine in the evening—so he dismissed the class and told everyone to return and rest.
Bai Tang handed in his off-campus accommodation application to the teacher,

Bai Tang handed in his off-campus accommodation application to the teacher, then turned to bid Wei Rushuang farewell.
“I’ll head off first. Goodbye~”
Wei Rushuang waved reluctantly. “Goodbye.”
The boy hadn’t gone far when a young man wearing a white shirt walked up beside him, chatting and laughing as they headed toward the school gate together.
Under the streetlights, the young man’s profile looked cool and refined. His elegant demeanor came naturally, and every movement was pleasing to the eye.
“Ah, it’s Senior Qi.”
“Senior Qi came back to campus?”
“What a rare sight—what a blessing…”
From the girls passing by, Wei Rushuang learned that the person walking with Bai Tang was none other than the school’s famously aloof male god, Qi Yuanxu.
Though judging by how he treated Bai Tang, he didn’t seem all that aloof at all~
One night passed.
While strolling along the campus paths the next day, Wei Rushuang somehow became known as the girl who had introduced herself yesterday. Members of the voice acting club sought her out and wouldn’t leave her alone. With no other choice, she reluctantly nodded and agreed to join the club.
Yan Yang held up his DSLR camera, snapping photos nonstop. The voice acting club and the journalism club were on good terms and interacted frequently. After getting Wei Rushuang’s consent, he took several photos—this week’s campus newspaper finally had its headline.
Qi Yuanxu was still the president of the voice acting club and also a senior about to graduate. No matter how busy he was, he still had to return to handle club affairs and preside over the selection of the next club president.
Wei Rushuang was just about to leave when Yan Yang grabbed her arm.
“Hey, girl—there’s a meeting later to select the next club president. Senior Qi will be there too~”
As he spoke, Qi Yuanxu appeared with Bai Tang. The two of them were dressed in the same color scheme; at first glance, it almost looked like a couple outfit.
“Good morning, Senior Qi.”
As soon as Qi Yuanxu arrived, everyone sat up straight. After all, he was their male god—their idol.
“Morning.” Qi Yuanxu’s expression was calm as ever, but the aura around him was noticeably gentler than before.
The vice president caught sight of Bai Tang, who was holding hands with Qi Yuanxu, and immediately understood.
So the cold male god had truly softened into something tender and gentle.
He just didn’t know who this person was—he didn’t seem familiar.
Although Bai Tang was strikingly good-looking, the original owner of the body had been introverted and rarely participated in activities. During college, he hadn’t joined a single club, living a simple routine of classroom–cafeteria–dormitory. During winter and summer breaks, he would find a part-time clerical job to earn some living expenses.
“Tang Tang, you came too!”
Seeing Bai Tang again, Yan Yang was unusually excited. Taking advantage of the moment when Qi Yuanxu was talking to the vice president, he rushed forward and gave Bai Tang a big hug.
“What are you doing? Hey—what are you doing?!”
Acting on her sense of justice, Wei Rushuang stepped in to stop Yan Yang—only to end up being hugged herself by mistake.
In Yan Yang’s imagination, Bai Tang was the soft and gentle type. He hadn’t expected that actually hugging him would feel even softer than he’d imagined.
Before Yan Yang could say anything, a loud slap rang out.
Yan Yang stared in shock, clutching his face, while Wei Rushuang crossed her arms and scolded angrily, “You pervert.”
“Wait—no, this is a misunderstanding! I wasn’t trying to hug you…” Yan Yang was completely confused. He had clearly gone in to hug Bai Tang—how did it turn into Wei Rushuang instead?
Wei Rushuang’s face flushed red as she glared at him. “You pervert! And now you’re trying to go after someone else too—”
She absolutely refused to admit that she had stepped on her loosened shoelace and failed to push him away in time, only to be pulled into the hug and end up at a disadvantage.
Standing behind them, Bai Tang had seen everything clearly. Although Wei Rushuang had stepped forward herself, it had been to protect him.
“Alright, stop arguing,” Bai Tang said gently. “This is Yan Yang’s fault. How can you bully a girl like that? Hurry up and apologize. Student Wei isn’t a petty person…”
Bai Tang sided with Wei Rushuang. In his heart, he silently apologized to Yan Yang—after all, a girl’s reputation was important. He couldn’t exactly say that Wei Rushuang had stepped forward on her own, so Yan Yang would just have to take the blame.
Yan Yang swallowed the words of protest stuck in his throat. Everyone was watching now—continuing the scene would only make things more embarrassing. Besides, he had technically taken advantage, and he’d already been slapped. An apology would settle things.
“Student Wei Rushuang, I sincerely apologize for my inappropriate behavior just now. I’m very sorry. Please forgive me.”
As the journalism club’s star campus reporter, Yan Yang was extremely skilled with words. His polished, official-sounding apology was delivered flawlessly—there was nothing anyone could fault.
Wei Rushuang knew exactly how the incident had unfolded. She didn’t want to make a bigger deal out of it either. After accepting the apology, she stepped aside and said nothing more.
Bai Tang let out a breath. After finishing his conversation with the vice president, Qi Yuanxu pinched Bai Tang’s nose lightly.
“Let’s go inside.”
“Mhm~” Bai Tang nodded. He released Qi Yuanxu’s hand and walked over to Yan Yang, who was clearly still upset.
“You’re still angry? There were so many people just now. Wei Rushuang is a girl—give her some leeway. If things got blown out of proportion, people would only laugh at us. It was just a misunderstanding…”
Bai Tang unzipped his backpack and, using it as cover, took out a small box from his personal space.
“This is my family’s heirloom ointment. It reduces swelling and relieves pain. Apply it for five minutes and you won’t even see a red mark. Give it a try.”
Yan Yang wasn’t really angry at anyone—he just felt unlucky.
He took the ointment and laughed. “Then thanks in advance, Tang Tang. I’m a generous man—I won’t stoop to arguing with women.”
The ointment was produced by Xiao A’s Luck System, containing a trace of good fortune. Whoever used it would enjoy a streak of good luck for the next half month.
Bai Tang knew that Yan Yang had an important interview coming up in a few days—one he cared deeply about. For students who hadn’t yet graduated, getting hired was extremely difficult. This bit of good luck could count as compensation for Yan Yang having to take the blame.
After soothing Yan Yang, Bai Tang turned to comfort Wei Rushuang.
“Thank you for earlier. If it weren’t for you, I might’ve been knocked over.”
With Yan Yang’s explosive enthusiasm, Bai Tang—completely unprepared—really could have been sent flying.
There was a reason Wei Rushuang was the female lead. She waved her hand generously.
“Oh, that’s nothing.”
Bai Tang smiled brightly. “I knew Student Wei was generous and wouldn’t fuss over small things.”
After experiencing more than a dozen worlds, the little squirrel’s way with words was no longer what it used to be. He was no longer the clumsy, awkward squirrel who didn’t know how to argue or respond—
of course, that exception still applied when facing the male lead.
When Bai Tang spoke, he was genuinely sincere, without a trace of deliberate flattery. Wei Rushuang felt thoroughly pleased by the praise and replied,
“Of course I wouldn’t nitpick over such trivial matters. Petty people can’t accomplish great things.”
Wei Rushuang was the young lady of the Wei family, raised with elite education from childhood. Later, after suffering a serious illness, her parents stopped forcing her to study so rigidly. Having grown up with few friends, she came up with the idea of hiding her identity and living as an ordinary person.
After Yan Yang and Wei Rushuang entered the meeting room, Qi Yuanxu reached out and ruffled Bai Tang’s hair.
“You, honestly…”
Bai Tang stuck out his tongue. “What? As long as it’s perfectly resolved, it’s fine.”
“Yes, yes, yes—Tang Tang is the best.”
The male god’s voice was so gentle it could drown someone in tenderness.
The vice president and the other members of the voice acting club were stunned—filled with both envy and admiration. They’d known Qi Yuanxu for two or three years and had never received such treatment. Their curiosity about Bai Tang deepened.
Just what kind of magic did he have to make Qi Yuanxu fall so completely?
Author’s Notes :
Bai Tang (nom nom): Want some pine nuts?
Wei Rushuang (screaming): AWSL!!!
Qi Yuanxu: Tang Tang is mine. (throws him over shoulder and carries him away)
