Chapter 307 – My Dear CEO Wife – A False Alarm (07)

Wen Changrou stayed upstairs for a long time—so long that the design department manager returned after finishing a meeting and even completed two drawings before coming back.

The designers in the design department thought, Here she comes, the tattletale1 is back.

Zu Shuang looked at Wen Changrou expectantly, but Wen Changrou seemed distracted and said nothing. She simply greeted the design manager and hurried away.

Zu Shuang could feel the gazes coming from all directions, as if everyone were mocking her.

She looked up, but the designers quickly averted their eyes and went back to work. They had plenty to do and no time for gossip.

The design department manager quietly observed his employees. He understood what was going on and didn’t assign Zu Shuang any demanding tasks—just some material organization, nothing difficult.

But in Zu Shuang’s eyes, the manager was belittling her. By not giving her real work, he was showing that he didn’t trust her abilities.

For the rest of the day, Zu Shuang wore a dark expression. She sat at her computer, typing furiously as if the keyboard were her enemy.

This childish behavior was completely ignored by the design department manager. He had earned his reputation in the design world through genuine talent and skill, and had been recruited by the Wen Group with a high salary. He wasn’t afraid of Zu Shuang, who had only gotten her position through connections.

Meanwhile, after receiving a message from their daughter, Wen’s parents learned that their son might have encountered something supernatural. They were deeply worried.

The Wen family had always been somewhat superstitious about feng shui, and the arrangement of their home’s furnishings had been carefully calculated to attract wealth. Now, hearing that their son might be in danger and hadn’t returned home yet, they called a familiar master to the house.

Their flight was in the evening, and they still had several hours before they could get home. They wouldn’t feel at ease until the master examined the situation.

When Wen Changhe and Bai Tang returned home hand in hand, an elderly man dressed in dark, patterned black clothing was sitting in the living room.

Wen Changrou sat to the side, looking apologetic and bitter.

Before noon today, she had no idea Bai Tang even existed. She thought her brother was being haunted by something, so she texted their parents, hoping they could find a way to bring Wen Changhe back to normal. Who would have thought her parents would act so quickly? Before Wen Changhe even returned, the master had already arrived.

If she had known the person in question was Bai Tang—her brother’s boyfriend—she absolutely, positively would never have told their parents.

Wen Changhe recognized the master the moment he saw him. His heart skipped a beat. He released Bai Tang’s hand and pushed the boy behind him.

“Master Li, what brings you here today? My parents haven’t returned yet. I’ll let you know when they do,” Wen Changhe said calmly, though his heart was pounding with nerves.

Master Li stood up. His face was kind, and though wrinkled with age, his features were full of vitality. Wen Changhe faced him squarely. A gentle breeze from the vent stirred Master Li’s robes, lending him an air of otherworldly grace.

“No, this old man is here to see Young Master Wen.” Master Li had once received help from the Wen family in his early years, so he was well acquainted with them.

Bai Tang’s intuition was rarely wrong—this old man was definitely not ordinary.

He hid behind Wen Changhe. The man’s gaze seemed to pierce straight through him, as though he were being stripped bare and exposed before another—a feeling he greatly disliked.

“Tang Tang, don’t be afraid. We’re not from this world. This Master Li may have some skill, but he can’t harm us.”

Qiu’er’s voice carried supreme confidence. If a fight broke out, he was certain he could ensure Bai Tang’s safe retreat. At worst, they could abandon this world and move on to the next.

Xiao A studied Master Li for a while.

“This man looks righteous and carries good fortune. He shouldn’t be someone who can’t tell right from wrong. Host, don’t be afraid.”

The more the two systems reassured him, the more nervous Bai Tang became.

Qiu’er told Xiao A, ‘I said should,’ still not entirely convinced.

Wen Changhe shifted slightly, completely shielding the boy behind him.

The two systems were right—Master Li was not someone incapable of discernment. He immediately noticed the boy standing behind Wen Changhe radiating a powerful spiritual aura.

In all his decades of life, he had never seen anyone with such pure energy. Wen Changhe was the first. Yet the boy’s aura was entirely spiritual, while Wen Changhe’s carried a blend of demonic and spiritual power. Fortunately, Wen Changhe was a righteous man; otherwise, if he ever turned astray, countless families would be ruined, and many lives could be lost.

“Come here, child,” Master Li said with a kind smile, beckoning to Bai Tang. At his age, calling Bai Tang a child was no exaggeration.

Bai Tang peeked out from behind Wen Changhe and, under Wen Changrou’s worried gaze, slowly stepped forward.

He had only taken two steps before his wrist was caught—it was Wen Changhe.

Wen Changhe led the boy to the sofa and, with an air of complete possessiveness, held him in his arms.
“Master Li, please sit. Standing while talking must be tiring.”

Master Li didn’t mind Wen Changhe’s less-than-friendly tone. He sat down beside Bai Tang, his expression calm.

“Child, how old are you this year? How did you end up in such a state?”

Perhaps because he was a master, his manner of speech was somewhat refined and scholarly. Fortunately, Bai Tang had experienced much in his life, so he was used to it.

He looked at Wen Changhe with a soft, sweet gaze, opened his mouth, and made a few meaningless “ah, ah” sounds.

“Tang Tang has a sore throat and can’t speak,” Wen Changhe explained.

Master Li nodded in understanding. He performed a brief calculation, then suddenly, his expression changed, and the way he looked at Bai Tang became different.

Wen Changrou’s heart, which had just calmed down, leapt again. She hurriedly explained, “Master Li, Bai Tang is a good person—a really good person. If it weren’t for me, he wouldn’t be like this now…”

Master Li murmured, “It’s all a mess… a complete mess…”

Then he added solemnly, “Dust to dust, ashes to ashes. Find your place, and return to where you belong.”

His words made the Wen siblings’ expressions change.

Especially Wen Changhe—his first reaction was to hold the boy tightly in his arms.

What did he mean by ‘return to where you belong’? Tang Tang was still young; he was only injured, not gone.

“Stay by my side. You’re not allowed to go anywhere.”

It was the first time Wen Changhe had shown Bai Tang his domineering, roguish side.

Ignoring everyone else’s presence—and whether the boy might be shy—he kissed Bai Tang’s lips and softened his tone. “Stay. Just stay by my side, okay?”

Wen Changrou quickly added, “Actually, my brother is a really good person—a diamond bachelor with no bad habits. He’s the perfect boyfriend!”

The young girl was innocent yet imaginative, and she had fantasized more than once about her brother and his friend being together. Now that it had come true—with Bai Tang, who had saved her twice and was both handsome and kind-hearted—her hidden fujoshi spirit was ablaze. How could she object? She was even afraid Bai Tang might run away.

Bai Tang nodded, resting his head against Wen Changhe’s chest, signaling that he would stay.

Master Li was furious. He tapped Wen Changhe and Wen Changrou on the head with his paper fan.

“Ignorant! Ignorant! If he doesn’t return to his body soon, he’ll become mentally impaired!”

Both of them—Mr. and Mrs. Wen’s bright children! They wouldn’t even listen to reason, and their tempers were so impatient. How would they ever accomplish anything great in the future?

Wen Changrou looked shocked, then embarrassed. How could she have known that was what Master Li meant? He could have just said return to his body directly—why act so mysterious?

But she could only complain silently in her heart, not daring to voice it aloud.

Wen Changhe and Bai Tang exchanged a glance.

“We’ve tried returning before,” Wen Changhe said, “but it didn’t work.”

When it came to returning to his body, Wen Changhe was even more anxious than Bai Tang, especially after hearing Master Li’s words.

“Master Li, do you have any solution?” he asked.

When asking for help, he even used a respectful form of address. When had Wen Changhe ever called anyone ‘you’ so politely before?

Master Li let out a soft “Eh,” counted on his fingers, then opened his eyes and said to the anxious Wen Changhe, “It will happen in the next few days. Be prepared.”

He couldn’t say exactly when—it was all bound by fate.

“My abilities are limited,” Master Li continued, “but I can give you one certain answer: you are destined to be together. Prepare yourselves.”

With that, Master Li rose, ignored Wen Changrou’s attempts to stop him, and drifted away like the wind.

Wen Changhe gripped Bai Tang’s hand tightly.

“Tang Tang, did you hear that? We’re destined to be together.” He kissed the boy’s hand. “Let’s go to the hospital now. You’ll definitely get better.”

After saying this, he asked the butler to pack a few sets of clothes, planning to stay in the hospital for an extended period.

Whenever the boy woke up, he would bring his beloved home.

Wen Changrou ran after him.

“Brother, Mom and Dad will be back tonight—why don’t we wait until tomorrow…”

But Wen Changhe couldn’t wait any longer.

According to Master Li, it would happen within the next few days.

But which days were those—today, tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow?

“Rou Rou, it’s time for you to grow up. The family is in your hands now. If there’s anything at the company, talk to Secretary Chen or the department manager. You can’t stay clueless forever.” Wen Changhe had long wanted to train Wen Changrou, but he hadn’t had the chance before. Now the opportunity had come; she couldn’t live her whole life hiding under the Wen family’s protection, oblivious to everything.

“Brother…” Wen Changrou’s eyes welled up with tears. Ugh, why did he have to make her cry?

Wen Changhe’s rare tenderness brought tears to the eyes of this sentimental girl.

Bai Tang waved goodbye to her.

The tall and short handsome couple were bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun. They got into their car and drove away, until they disappeared from sight, as Wen Changrou watched them go.

Wen Changrou wiped away her tears, vowing never to disappoint her brother.

In the car, Qiu’er ran to Bai Tang’s lap and began his rant, “I think the male lead is right, Wen Changrou is a fool. She doesn’t even argue when the male lead calls her foolish. Most importantly, she stupidly let the female lead sell her out and still counts the money for her…”

Xiao A remained silent. He generally didn’t concern himself with people or things unrelated to Qiu’er and his host, and Wen Changrou was, in Xiao A’s eyes, insignificant.

Wen Changhe had wanted to ask for a long time where these two puppies came from. Sometimes they were there, sometimes they weren’t.

“Tang Tang…”

Bai Tang seemed to sense Wen Changhe’s thoughts. The moment Wen Changhe spoke, he tightly hugged the two puppies and mouthed, “Mine, don’t move.”

He remembered in a previous world, when Qiu’er had just transformed and was arguing with his husband, Qiu’er was accidentally thrown out of the palace.
