“The legend says that the second button of a school uniform is the closest to the heart. Giving it to someone you like is a way of confessing your feelings.” The system didn’t even need to search its database—it provided the explanation in an instant.
Bai Tang’s face turned bright red. Was Hudson… confessing to him?
“Tang Tang, you have to stay strong! After tonight, we’ll have completed the mission,” the system reminded him urgently, noticing his flustered expression.
“Qiu’er, I…” Bai Tang glanced up at Hudson reluctantly, then quickly lowered his eyes again.
“My uniform is damaged. The button is gone.” Bai Tang squeezed his eyes shut and blurted out the excuse.
The surrounding crowd collectively gasped. Did… did Hudson just get rejected?
What would the student council president do after being turned down? Everyone held their breath, waiting for his reaction.
A trace of disappointment flickered in Hudson’s eyes, but he wasn’t willing to give up just yet. He steadied himself and asked, “What about your old uniform? That would work too.”
Bai Tang was an exchange student and didn’t have a Ferguston University uniform. If an old uniform’s button would do, then Hudson wanted one even more—it would be something that had accompanied Bai Tang for years.
“Tang Tang, hold on…” The system pleaded desperately.
Bai Tang suppressed the ache in his heart and declared loudly, “I—I didn’t have buttons on my old uniform.”
And that was actually true. School uniforms in Xia Country were mostly athletic tracksuits with zippers instead of buttons—there really weren’t any to give.
The crowd watched the scene unfold with bated breath. Wow, this little one had some serious determination—he had actually rejected Hudson’s confession twice in a row.
Just as the onlookers, Bai Tang, and the system all assumed that Hudson would give up, something small and round was suddenly pressed into Bai Tang’s palm. Under the glow of the ballroom lights, it shimmered with a unique brilliance.
“I’m giving you mine. Will you accept it?”
Bai Tang’s eyes widened in shock. He looked up and found himself staring directly into a pair of deep green eyes, brimming with affection.
Hudson’s heart was pounding wildly. He held his breath, waiting for an answer.
Bai Tang bit his lip, something welling up in his eyes, ready to spill over.
“Qiu’er, just this once… let me be selfish, okay?!” He blurted out before he could change his mind, not daring to look at the system’s reaction.
“Tang Tang, don’t shut me out—” The system’s voice wavered, the last syllables fading into silence as Bai Tang cut off their connection.
A single crystalline tear slipped down, disappearing into the plush carpet beneath him.
Then, he lifted his head and beamed, his soft voice as sweet as candy. “Okay.”
A deafening cheer erupted from the crowd.
Hudson was overjoyed—he had never felt happiness like this in his entire life.
Leaning closer, he whispered tenderly, “Tang Tang, I want to kiss you.”
Bai Tang’s eyes sparkled with laughter. He stood on tiptoe and pressed his warm, soft lips against Hudson’s… Hudson instantly took control, flipping the dynamic as he deepened the kiss—gentle yet possessive, passionate yet lingering.
From a distance, Tian Lingxue leaned against Owen, watching the scene unfold. “Owen, do you really think I can trust Bai Tang in his hands?” she mused.
Owen wrapped his arms around her. “The Bell family and the Lycett family have been allies for generations. Our power is evenly matched. If Hudson dares mistreat him, you can always keep him in check.”
“Oh?” Tian Lingxue arched a brow. “I only agreed to be your girlfriend. As for the future… that depends on your performance.” She scoffed—who did he think he was, already planning a proposal?
Exuding queenly dominance, she still reached out with a gentle touch, tugging at Owen’s tie. “Didn’t you say we were going to dance?”
Obediently, Owen let himself be led away by his queen.
