“Tang Tang, where do you feel unwell?” Hudson crouched down, his worried gaze meeting Bai Tang’s at eye level.
Bai Tang continued eating happily, his cheeks puffed out as he shook his head. Unfortunately, his human mouth didn’t have cheek pouches—otherwise, he could have slowly savored his treats.
“Tang Tang, don’t worry! As soon as you complete the mission in this world, you’ll unlock the beginner’s gift pack and access to the system’s shop. There are all sorts of items inside, and turning back into a squirrel wouldn’t be impossible either~” The system’s warm reminder made Bai Tang’s eyes light up.
“Qiu’er, you’re the best~” Bai Tang sincerely thanked the system, tilting his head in an adorably innocent gesture.
The system felt like it might actually be malfunctioning. Otherwise, why was the electrical current inside it suddenly running faster? Even its snowy-white orb had taken on a faint pink hue.
“N-no problem~” The system, flustered, quickly cut off the connection. It needed to retreat to its dark little corner and cool down.
“Qiu’er, aren’t you afraid of the dark anymore?” Bai Tang’s eyes widened, but he received no response.
To outsiders, Bai Tang looked as though he was staring blankly into the distance, as if he had seen something utterly unbelievable.
Tian Lingxue followed his gaze.
Hmm… Forest Adventure—one of the three haunted house attractions in the amusement park. Could it be that Tang Tang wanted to try it?
Her expression turned slightly sinister as she glanced past Hudson, who was gently wiping the corner of Bai Tang’s mouth. Perfect. Your test has arrived. A coward has no right to protect Tang Tang.
The original Bai Tang had never played on these amusement park rides before, and Tian Lingxue had no idea he was afraid of such things. Even when he was assigned a paper analyzing horror films, he never mentioned anything about it.

Tian Lingxue dragged Owen along to buy a four-person ticket bundle. Why Owen? Because the female lead had made it clear—she would only cover the tickets for herself and Tang Tang. As for Hudson and Owen, they could pay for themselves.
When the bloodstained Forest Adventure tickets were handed to him, Bai Tang instinctively refused.
To carry out her plan, Tian Lingxue put on a pitiful expression. Even though Bai Tang knew she was faking it, he still couldn’t bring himself to say no.
“Alright then, but just once, okay?” The amusement park had three major haunted houses, and Bai Tang had no intention of going through all of them.
Forest Adventure… Considering that he had grown up in the forest, this shouldn’t be a problem, right? Bai Tang cheered himself up, mentally preparing for what was to come.
“Don’t be scared, I’ll go with you.” Hudson took Bai Tang’s hand.
Feeling the warmth in his palm, Bai Tang beamed brightly. “Mhm~”
Tian Lingxue clenched her teeth in frustration. Enjoy it while you can, hmph~
“Ohhh, just don’t cry when you get scared later,” Owen whistled, hands in his pockets, his charming demeanor drawing the attention of several passing girls.
“We’ll see about that,” Tian Lingxue shot back, too focused on observing the interactions between Hudson and Bai Tang to argue with Owen.
Forest Adventure—as the name suggested, this haunted house was designed with a primeval forest setting. Towering trees stretched into the sky, blocking most of the light. The dim lighting barely illuminated the path beneath their feet. Wind howled around them, and from all directions came the sounds of wild beasts roaring—mixed with the blood-curdling screams of terrified visitors…
Bai Tang’s palms grew damp with sweat. Nervously, he took slow, cautious steps. Unlike traditional haunted houses, Forest Adventure had no fixed route. Players could roam freely, and the exit time varied depending on how they navigated through it.
Tian Lingxue followed closely behind Hudson, silently thinking, Let’s see if you can handle this…
The first stretch of the haunted house was relatively safe—aside from a few eerie sound effects, there wasn’t anything particularly terrifying yet.
