Chapter 213 – Nightmare from Ten Thousand Years Ago – A Visitor in the Girls’ Restroom (09)
Xiao Dong lowered her head to hide the calculating glint in her eyes. She refused to believe there was anything she couldn’t accomplish. Nothing!
When she looked up again, Xiao Dong had already reverted to her pitiful, soft-girl persona.
Wei Kexin tried to ease the tension. “Let’s talk while we walk. Chatting in front of the restroom is… a bit weird.”
It wasn’t just a bit weird—it was very weird. Who stands chatting outside a bathroom like it’s totally normal?
Bai Tang began talking about what he’d experienced in the restroom.
Wei Kexin was full of admiration. “Oh my gosh, I’ve heard that legend too! They say no one can escape the choice. Our Tang Tang is amazing~”
“It’s nothing. He’s just uncultured,” Bai Tang said proudly.
The uncultured shadow stuck in the men’s restroom: All the restrooms in this amusement park are connected. I can hear you talking about me…
“What about you?” Bai Tang asked Wei Kexin, still gripping Mu Quyan’s hand tightly.
“I ran into Xiao Dong in the restroom. She got trapped inside while trying to hide from Xiao Yu’s shadow. It was pure luck that I went in, or else who knows how long she would’ve been stuck.”
“Yes, thank goodness for Kexin,” Xiao Dong said, looking grateful.
Mu Quyan remained skeptical about Xiao Dong’s sudden appearance. It was possible she had entered the cube earlier than most, but in all the data he’d retrieved from the research lab, there was no record of a participant named Xiao Dong entering the cube.
Another possibility was that she was originally something from within the cube. Whether she was harmful or harmless—they couldn’t be sure yet.
“You said you were hiding from Xiaoyu. What exactly happened in the amusement park?” Mu Quyan asked, getting straight to the point.
Xiao Dong’s eyes widened as if she’d just recalled something. She didn’t seem eager to revisit the past.
But under Wei Kexin’s urging, she finally spoke.
“Xiao Yu and I were close friends. She came from a single-parent household and lived in the old, rundown part of the city. When she transferred schools, I guess it was our shared experiences that brought us together—we bonded quickly and became good friends.”
A nostalgic look crossed Xiao Dong’s face. “But the good times didn’t last. Because Xiao Yu was so quiet and withdrawn, she became an easy target for bullying. Other girls at school picked on her… One day, she asked me to go to the amusement park with her. She told me that from now on, no one would ever bully her again. She smiled in a way that was… unsettling. I was scared, so I didn’t dare ask more—I just wanted to leave. But then… Xiao Yu tried to kill me. I had no choice but to run. She was chasing me with a switchblade, attacking anyone she saw. I ended up hiding in the restroom, and I stayed there until Kexin rescued me.”
Xiao Dong gave a bitter smile. “I don’t even know what’s going on anymore. You say it’s now the year 1533 in the future—so tell me, am I still a human being, or just one of those so-called ‘resentful remnants’ formed from lingering hatred before death?”
Wei Kexin patted Xiao Dong’s shoulder. “This place is strange to begin with. But based on what you said, if you weren’t killed, then you can’t be a remnant. We’ll find a way out of here together—and take you with us.”
This space really was bizarre. You didn’t get hungry or tired, but it drained you mentally. However, Xiao Dong’s situation was unique. It was entirely possible she was an exception.
As for what Xiao Dong said, Bai Tang didn’t believe a single word of it. He had learned from Xiao A and Qiu’er that before they arrived, Xiao Dong had killed Han Nian—the girl who had walked away with someone else near the entrance to the old district.
Bai Tang didn’t have much of an impression of that Han Nian girl. If the system hadn’t mentioned her, he might’ve forgotten that there were once two other explorers who parted ways with them.
He tugged on Mu Quyan’s sleeve, and the latter gave him a reassuring smile.
He understood what that smile meant—Mu Quyan didn’t believe Xiao Dong’s story either.
There were too many holes in what Xiao Dong had said. It simply didn’t hold up to scrutiny.
Seeing Wei Kexin acting like a caring older sister, Mu Quyan decided not to say anything—for now. He didn’t want to mess things up.
In the little white room, Qiu’er gave the male lead’s instincts a standing ovation—108 likes.
By this point in the world’s storyline, all the key characters had appeared, and the plot had begun to unfold.
Originally, this Xiao Dong was Xiao Yu’s close friend. Everything she said earlier was true: Xiao Yu, a girl from a single-parent household, transferred to the school and quickly became friends with her.
But there were things Xiao Dong had left out.
Before Xiao Yu’s arrival, Xiao Dong had been the one who was constantly bullied by the other girls—she had been the original target of abuse.
Xiao Yu had seen her being bullied and, out of pity, stood up for her.
From that point on, the bullying shifted from Xiao Dong to Xiao Yu.
Watching Xiao Yu, who had once pitied her, become someone she pitied in turn, stirred something strange in Xiao Dong’s heart—a twisted pleasure.
She felt a deep, perverse satisfaction when she saw Xiao Yu being mocked, beaten, and cursed. Especially when Xiao Yu looked at her with pleading eyes—that was the most thrilling feeling of all.
Afraid to go up against the school’s queen bee herself, Xiao Dong secretly pledged loyalty to her instead. In fact, it was Xiao Dong who suggested forcing Xiao Yu into prostitution.
The queen bee’s gang split the money, and Xiao Dong didn’t take a single cent—so she could keep playing the role of the kind friend in front of Xiao Yu.
Xiao Dong managed to have it both ways. She was no longer bullied, had people following her, and her elevated status only twisted her further inside.
But the truth eventually came to light—paper can’t wrap fire forever. Xiao Yu discovered Xiao Dong’s true nature. The two of them had a huge argument, and in her anger, Xiao Dong instructed the school bully to sell Xiao Yu to an older man with certain perverse fetishes. Not long after, word spread that Xiao Yu had taken a leave of absence from school.
Some time later, Xiao Yu invited her to go to the amusement park.
They had already fallen out. There was no way they could go back to how things were before. Xiao Dong knew that perfectly well, but she was still curious to see how far Xiao Yu had fallen.
In the end, she couldn’t resist the thought that kept gnawing at her, and showed up at the amusement park at the agreed time.
She figured that since there would be a crowd, Xiao Yu probably wouldn’t do anything.
But she was wrong. When someone is driven to desperation, they’re capable of anything—no matter when or where.
As soon as Xiao Yu saw Xiao Dong, she pulled out a switchblade and tried to kill her. In a panic, Xiao Dong grabbed one innocent passerby after another to use as a human shield, then fled into the restroom to escape the attack.
After seeing this part of the story, Qiu’er couldn’t help but curse aloud.
“This is what they call a “bestie”? Xiao Yu gave her heart and soul for that friendship, and Xiao Dong stabbed her in the back. Tsk tsk tsk, you never really know someone’s heart.”
Xiao A patted Qiu’er on the head. “There, there. Don’t be angry.”
Qiu’er: “Hmph~”
The two systems passed this information along to Bai Tang.
After receiving it, the look in Bai Tang’s eyes as he stared at Xiao Dong changed completely.
This person was terrifying. He tugged on Mu Quyan, wanting to keep a safe distance from her.
The amusement park’s only functioning Ferris wheel arrived.
Its rusty gears groaned with an unpleasant creak.
A dark figure swayed precariously inside the cabin at the very top of the wheel, slowly descending.
“What is that?” Bai Tang asked nervously, clutching Mu Quyan’s sleeve.
“Bi Xinzhi,” Mu Quyan narrowed his eyes and uttered a name they hadn’t heard in a long time.
Wei Kexin was confused. “Who?”
Qi Jiu answered, “The architect.”
She had to bear the consequences herself—blaming Bi Xinzhi now was pointless. It would only create unnecessary conflict and drain their mental strength.
“We ran into a girl who looked like Xiao Yu. Han Nian was killed by her. I only escaped by running up onto the Ferris wheel,” Bi Xinzhi explained.
Wei Kexin deflated like a balloon, saying nothing more.
Xiao Dong’s eyes flickered, but she remained silent.
Mu Quyan asked, “Where exactly did you run into Xiao Yu?”
Bi Xinzhi pointed to the distant carousel. “Over there—the carousel.”
They walked over, only to find several people already lying on the ground, all with fatal wounds to their abdomens.
The killer was obvious. This was clearly Xiao Yu’s doing.
“Ah—!” Xiao Dong screamed at the sight of the bodies scattered on the ground.
She was standing between Wei Kexin and Mu Quyan, and in her panic, instinctively leaned toward Mu Quyan.
“Ah Yan, come here—I need to talk to you,” Bai Tang said, pulling Mu Quyan aside.
Xiao Dong, who had expected to lean on Mu Quyan for support, suddenly found nothing to hold onto. She lost her balance and stumbled, falling forward—landing directly on the corpses, face-to-face with the dead.
This time, her scream was even louder.
“Shut up.” Qi Jiu covered Xiao Dong’s mouth. “Do you want to attract Xiao Yu?”
Xiao Dong immediately fell silent, no longer daring to make a sound. She shot Mu Quyan a look of reproach, as if scolding him for lacking even the slightest bit of pity or sense of mutual support.
“Tang Tang, did you find anything?” Mu Quyan’s tone was always gentle when it came to Bai Tang. He willingly let himself be pulled aside.
“There’s something wrong with Xiao Dong,” Bai Tang said seriously, face stern. He couldn’t take out the plot book to show Mu Quyan, and he had no hard evidence—so all he could do was speak with as much seriousness as possible to make his words more convincing.
Mu Quyan gently patted his head. “I think so too. Don’t get too close to her, Tang Tang.”
It was precisely because he didn’t trust Xiao Dong that Mu Quyan had placed Bai Tang on the outer side—to keep some distance between him and her.
“I’m telling you, Xiao Yu ended up like this because of her. All those people in the amusement park were just human shields for her…” Bai Tang rambled on, and Mu Quyan nodded along as he listened.
“My Tang Tang is amazing!” Mu Quyan gave Bai Tang a kiss as a reward.
“I have a plan…”
Mu Quyan whispered softly into Bai Tang’s ear.
Their intimacy was so obvious, it made others feel a bit overwhelmed just watching.
“You two have such a great relationship…”
When they came back, Wei Kexin commented with a tone of envy. She glanced sideways at Qi Jiu—who showed absolutely no reaction.
Wei Kexin pouted.
Comparisons really are the root of frustration. They’re both boyfriends, so how can the difference be this huge?
