Chapter 158 – The Wolf King’s Naughty Little Wife – The Issue of Sleeping in the Guest Room (04)
“Help! Help!”
In the forest, a female was running frantically for her life, a raging tusked beast roaring behind her.
Ran Xiayue spotted a figure up ahead. Driven by the idea of “better them than me,” she decided that as long as this person could help her shake off the beast, she would faithfully worship the Beast God during every holiday from now on.
Kyle Murphy was on his way back, carrying a few bright red fruits, when his ears twitched. His sharp gaze turned toward the right.
A petite female was running toward him, calling for help.
As a beastman, he would never turn a blind eye to someone in danger—especially not a female or a cub.
Kyle Murphy put down the fruits and launched himself at the tusked beast with swift, forceful movements…
Meanwhile, in the tree hollow on the back hill, the system came out of the black room. After spending the night watching high-altitude adventure documentaries, it was no longer afraid of heights—height had become meaningless to it.
“Beep beep beep—” The system glanced at the plot alert and was instantly shocked.
“Tang Tang, Tang Tang, wake up! The sun’s already shining on your butt!”
The beast hide beneath him was soft, and the sunlight streaming into the hollow was warm. Bai Tang was sound asleep. Hearing the system’s shout, he muttered, “Let me sleep a bit more,” rolled over, and drifted back into sleep.
“Tang Tang, something major happened! The male lead and female lead just met—just like in the original plot!” the system said again.
“What!!!” Bai Tang sat up with a jolt.
“It’s true! The male lead rescued the female lead in the forest. They’re almost at the tribe’s central square now,” said the system.
But Kyle Murphy had already returned last night! Ran Xiayue went to the forest this morning to look for the way home. How did they even meet?
Bai Tang didn’t waste any time. He dressed in beast hide and headed straight for the tribe’s central square.
Just as the beastmen were getting ready to go hunting, Kyle Murphy dragged a tusked beast back with him, followed by a dirty, disheveled Ran Xiayue.
“Hey~ Kyle!”
“When did Kyle get back?”
Many people were seeing Kyle Murphy for the first time today. After three years apart, they all greeted him warmly.
“Yeah, I got back last night,” Kyle Murphy replied, not particularly friendly—but the beastmen were used to it. That was just how he was.
“Out hunting so early, and you even took down a tusked beast—impressive, Kyle!” said Brown, Kyle’s friend, punching him on the shoulder. “You came back and didn’t even call me to go hunting? That’s cold, man.”
Brown was around the same age as Kyle and had returned from his own training a year earlier.
Beastmen undertook solitary training to strengthen their abilities. Brown hadn’t expected Kyle to be gone for so long—he must have traveled pretty far.
“A bit of something came up, I didn’t have time to call you,” Kyle said as he put down the tusked beast and picked up the fruit wrapped in beast hide.
According to the tribe’s rules, whenever beastmen went hunting, they had to turn in part of their catch to the tribe. This was distributed among the elderly who could no longer hunt, as well as sub-beastmen and females.
Tusked beast meat wasn’t particularly tasty, but it was thick and plentiful—an ideal source of food for hungry beastmen.
Kyle handed the tusked beast over to the tribe, then hugged the fruit to his chest and prepared to head back to the rear mountain.
Bai Tang was probably awake by now—he needed to hurry back. That was what Kyle was thinking when Ran Xiayue suddenly grabbed his arm.
“Kyle, thank you for saving me in the forest,” Ran Xiayue said, her face flushed red.
According to the original host’s memories, Kyle was the most capable among the young beastmen. On top of that, he was handsome—his looks and build outshone even modern male models, which was exactly Ran Xiayue’s type.
“It was nothing,” Kyle said, frowning as he stared at Ran Xiayue’s hand clutching his beast hide. “Let go.”
“Eh?” Ran Xiayue widened her eyes in surprise, startled into releasing him.
“S-sorry about that…”
The moment Bai Tang arrived at the tribe’s central square, he saw Kyle and Ran Xiayue pulling at each other.
Oh, great. Turn your back for one second and he’s already flirting and messing around. How is he supposed to live like this?
The little squirrel stomped his foot in anger—unfortunately, it was his injured left foot. The pain shot up from the sole to his spine, a sour numbness that instantly brought tears to his eyes.
“It hurts, Qiu’er~” Bai Tang whimpered, squatting down slowly and clutching his left foot as tears welled up.
“Ah! Let’s go back to the tree hollow—once we’re back, we can treat the injury!” The system panicked the moment it saw Tang Tang about to cry. It immediately forgot all about worrying that a sudden recovery might raise suspicion from the beastmen—only concern remained in its digital heart.
A dark shadow fell over them, but Bai Tang couldn’t even be bothered to look up and see who it was. All he could feel were the sparkling tears dropping onto the soil below, forming wet little circles.
The beastmen stared in curiosity as Kyle walked toward the sub-beastman in the back mountain, gently comforting him. They couldn’t help but wonder if they were dreaming.
Wasn’t this the same Kyle who never smiled or spoke unnecessarily, who always kept his distance from both sub-beastmen and females—had he actually… changed?
Their eyes widened as they exchanged gossip-laden glances.
“Does your foot hurt? Let me take you to the priest to have a look,” Kyle said as he picked Bai Tang up. Seeing the sub-beastman cry made his own heart feel like it was about to shatter.
“I don’t want you to care about me. Go away. Go find Ran Xiayue instead,” the squirrel sub-beastman sniffled, his voice soft and childish.
Seeing her target comforting another sub-beastman, Ran Xiayue approached with the mindset of investigating a romantic rival. The first thing she heard was: “Who’s Ran Xiayue?”
So it turns out the male lead wasn’t even paying attention to the female lead at all—he couldn’t even remember her name. The system was delighted, especially seeing the look of embarrassment on the female lead’s face. It felt incredibly satisfying.
Ever since it had been confirmed that in every mission world, the male lead would follow Tang Tang and play the role of his destined partner, the system had completely lost all affection for anything labeled “female lead.”
In Ran Xiayue’s memory, the sub-beastman being cuddled in Kyle’s arms was a cripple from the back mountain.
A flicker of contempt passed through her eyes—how dare a disabled sub-beastman try to steal her man?
She put on a sweet smile. “I’m Ran Xiayue. You don’t look too well—do you need help?”
As the female lead approached, Bai Tang instinctively wrapped his arms around Kyle’s neck, his fluffy tail curling tightly around Kyle’s waist.
This protective gesture made Kyle, who normally responded to Ran Xiayue with a cold face, light up with joy. He brushed aside Bai Tang’s messy bangs, completely unconcerned about how quickly the squirrel sub-beastman’s attitude had shifted.
Your head can be broken, your blood can flow—but your man can’t be taken.
Bai Tang had just been venting earlier. Since Kyle clearly wasn’t interested in Ran Xiayue, there was no way Bai Tang was going to let her have him either.
“Let’s go see the priest, okay?” Kyle asked gently.
The squirrel sub-beastman was sensitive by nature—otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to live alone in the back mountain. As sweet as Kyle was being, he was still genuinely concerned about Bai Tang’s injury.
“No,” Bai Tang shook his head and leaned close to Kyle’s cheek. “It doesn’t hurt anymore. I want to go home. I’m hungry.” As he spoke, his stomach helpfully let out a loud “gurgle gurgle gurgle.”
Kyle scooped Bai Tang up in his arms and didn’t forget to grab the fruit as well.
“Tang Tang, have some fruit first to tide you over…”
The beastmen looked on in disbelief as Kyle, usually so stoic and cold, acted like a completely different person around the sub-beastman. And yet… it somehow made perfect sense.
The squirrel sub-beastman from the back mountain seemed especially adorable today. No one could say exactly what had changed, but he was just so cute. It was a pity, though—his legs didn’t work too well.
While they sighed in envy, the beastmen also felt a surge of excitement. After all, many females and sub-beastmen in the tribe had feelings for Kyle—Ran Xiayue was just one of them. If Kyle already had a confirmed partner, that meant more chances for everyone else.
They cast fiery glances at Ran Xiayue. In the beastmen’s world, whether it was a beastman or a female/sub-beastman expressing love and getting rejected, it wasn’t considered shameful. But to Ran Xiayue, it felt like they were all mocking her.
She glared at them and ran off in shame and anger.
Back at the rear mountain, after Kyle swore an oath to the Beast God, Bai Tang reluctantly forgave him.
“The tree hollow is too small. I’ll build a house here,” Kyle said.
Bai Tang thought for a moment and shook his head.
Kyle couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed. Does Tang Tang still not trust me after what just happened?!
But then Bai Tang added, “I want to build a big one.”
The primitive beastman tribe was way too underdeveloped—their houses were basically piles of stones and animal hides. Not only did they leak when it rained, but they weren’t windproof in winter either.
“Then we’ll build a big house. How do you want it?” Kyle asked, doting as he looked at the sub-beastman in his arms, his fingers gently playing with the fluffy tail.
“I want a bathroom, a kitchen, a bedroom, a living room…” Bai Tang began counting the rooms on his fingers.
“Okay, we’ll build them all.” Kyle didn’t know what a bathroom or a kitchen was, but if Tang Tijang wanted it, he’d make it happen no matter what.
“Oh, right!” Bai Tang turned his head, beaming. “And we need a guest room—if we ever argue, you can go sleep in the guest room.”
Kyle: !!! Absolutely not!
“I’m not going to argue with you.”
As Kyle stroked Bai Tang’s soft, fluffy tail, the latter shivered involuntarily.
“Still… I want to build one anyway,” Bai Tang said, cheeks flushed red—Kyle had just touched a sensitive spot on his tail.
Due to limited resources, building a fully modern house was out of the question—but something simpler was still possible.
Bai Tang used the system store to exchange for a set of blueprints. They included not just floor plans, but side views, exploded diagrams, and material specifications—all easy to understand.
Kyle couldn’t read, but he could understand diagrams. He didn’t ask Bai Tang where the blueprints came from—so long as they were for him, where they came from didn’t matter.
Beastmen were all about action. Once the house’s size and structure were confirmed, Kyle set off into the forest to chop down trees.
Bai Tang was still considering whether he should risk being questioned and trade for an axe. But then he watched as Kyle’s hand transformed back into a wolf’s claw and slashed at a tree trunk a couple of times. With a loud crash, a tree thicker than two Bai Tangs put together fell to the ground. Bai Tang jumped in shock and quickly grabbed Kyle’s hand to check.
The silver wolf claws were perfectly fine, with only a few wood chips stuck under the nails.
“Tang Tang, are you worried about me?”
“Who’s worried about you? Hurry up and get to work, or you’re sleeping in the guest room!” Bai Tang, flustered after being caught showing concern, let go of the wolf paw in embarrassment and irritation.
Though the forest had plenty of trees, Kyle didn’t chop them all in one area. Instead, he cut one every dozen or so trees, carefully selecting the thickest and most mature ones.
Bai Tang wasn’t idle either. While Kyle was chopping trees, he secretly used his skills to encourage the vines in the forest to grow. He wove them into baskets—wrapping food in animal hide was just too inconvenient, especially fruits. Most of them ended up crushed and soiled the hide by the time they got home.
From time to time, Kyle turned to look back. He saw Bai Tang sitting under a tree, weaving something. His long golden hair draped gently down to his waist, a vision so lovely it tugged at Kyle’s heart.
The sub-beastman seemed to sense his heated gaze. He looked up and gave Kyle a smile—one so radiant it felt like nothing else in the world mattered. And just like that, Kyle’s heart fell into chaos once more.

Ah, I reflect on my actions… I spent the whole afternoon playing games and didn’t write a single word. I admit my mistake~ 😅
