Chapter 134 – Shh, He Found You – The Witch Makes a Move (12)

Bai Tang placed the medicine on the table, then turned around and closed the door.

“I think I heard her talking bad about me?”

“Mm, she did come here to badmouth you,” Yu Hongbo said, stroking the boy’s hair—it was as smooth as ever.

Bai Tang’s eyes widened. “And I heard you agreeing with her!”

The way the boy widened his eyes was so amusing that Yu Hongbo couldn’t help but feel like teasing him. “She also said she quite admired me…”

Bai Tang glared at him and climbed onto the bed. “Tell me the truth—did you fall for her?!”

Yu Hongbo rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

“Li Xinxin does look pretty delicate. She really brings out a man’s protective instincts.”

The more Bai Tang listened, the angrier he became. What did that mean? Was Yu Hongbo planning to two-time him?!

Fuming, Bai Tang jumped off the bed.

“Fine! I’m not as pretty or gentle as her anyway—go protect her if you want!”

With that, he picked up the medicine bowl from the table and stormed off. He was going to find Li Xinxin and make room for her himself.

Yu Hongbo saw that Bai Tang was about to leave in anger, so he quickly reached out with his left arm and scooped the little squirrel back.

“Where are you going? I haven’t even taken my medicine yet.”

Drip—

Tears, like tiny crystal beads, fell into the medicine.

The boy lowered his head and shoved the bowl into Yu Hongbo’s hands, then sat silently to the side.

Yu Hongbo wouldn’t let Bai Tang’s heartfelt effort go to waste. He downed the medicine in a few gulps, then pulled the stubborn boy into his arms and whispered into his ear: “She’s a werewolf.”

Bai Tang turned his head sharply. “What?”

He immediately forgot about their little quarrel. “She didn’t do anything to you, right?”

The boy quickly examined Yu Hongbo from head to toe. Once he confirmed there were no other injuries, he finally stopped.

“I’m fine. She didn’t do anything to me,” Yu Hongbo said with a laugh, hugging the boy tighter. The feeling of holding him in his arms was incredibly comforting.

“Then why did she come to you?” Bai Tang muttered sullenly.

Yu Hongbo pulled the boy under the covers. “Do you still remember Liang Shengfu?”

Bai Tang nodded. “Yeah, he’s another werewolf—Li Xinxin’s boyfriend.”

“Smart,” Yu Hongbo said, planting a reward kiss on the boy’s cheek.

Then he pulled out a pocket-sized notebook and opened it in front of Bai Tang:

October 31st, Sunny

Xinxin never seems to understand me. I’m working hard for our future, but she keeps throwing unreasonable tantrums. I’m getting tired… Should I keep holding on?

November 1st, Overcast

Xinxin and I were somehow kidnapped and brought to a strange villa. Don’t be scared, Xinxin—I’ll get us out of here.

November 2nd, Overcast

Xinxin fought with me again. What could I possibly want from those other girls? Do you want me to kill every other girl in this villa before you’ll be satisfied?!

These were the latest entries. The “Xinxin” mentioned was most likely Li Xinxin.

Bai Tang flipped back to the notebook’s cover. A single character—梁 (Liang)—was written in stylized script.
“It’s Liang Shengfu’s diary.”

“My earlier guess was right,” Yu Hongbo said. “Liang Shengfu and Li Xinxin were indeed in a relationship. But it seems like Li Xinxin didn’t trust him at all.”

After reading the diary, Yu Hongbo couldn’t help comparing—his Tangtang was better in every way: considerate, kind, obedient, and well-behaved.

Liang Shengfu had probably argued with Li Xinxin before he tried to attack Bai Tang. As for the plump woman who died on the first night—she was likely his doing too.

Bai Tang hadn’t expected such a twisted heart to be hiding behind Li Xinxin’s delicate appearance. She was deeply suspicious of every woman—anyone who even knew Liang Shengfu was on her radar.

Even Yu Hongbo announcing that Bai Tang was his boyfriend wasn’t enough to change her mind. Seriously, this woman was terrifying.

“So… she wants you to kill me?”

“Right. If I kill off the remaining villagers, she and I can escape together,” Yu Hongbo explained. “Originally, she was planning to kill me. But I revealed my werewolf identity.”

With Yu Hongbo around, Li Xinxin couldn’t touch Bai Tang. But now that Yu Hongbo was injured, she could get rid of him first—then she’d be free to do whatever she wanted to Bai Tang.

“If nothing goes wrong, her target tonight should be the short-haired woman.”

The short-haired woman hadn’t given her name during introductions on the first day, so no one knew who she really was. For someone that bold and reckless to have survived this long, she’d definitely been lucky.

As night fell, the villa’s lights flickered a few times. The power, which had been out, was somehow restored—though the third floor remained dark. The villa was now fully lit, yet the atmosphere had only grown more terrifying.

Every “accident” always came with the death of a companion.

Tonight… who would it be?

The hallway was completely empty. Nearly everyone stayed obediently in their rooms, having learned their lesson from Bai Tang’s attack. Thick blackout curtains were drawn shut to block any prying eyes from outside.

Li Xinxin hummed a little tune as she took a long, relaxing hot shower.

She trusted no one. Even with Liang Shengfu—her own boyfriend—she constantly suspected him of cheating. As for Yu Hongbo, someone she had only just met and who had a history of lying? Even more so.

She stared at the alarm clock on the table, watching the second hand tick-tick-tick its way forward.
At exactly 11:00 p.m., she smiled.

A loud thump came from the room next door.

The short-haired woman had jumped.

In the darkness of the night, black flowers seemed to bloom beneath the body that had fallen from the building.

This round of the game had brought together participants from all walks of life—college students about to graduate, recently divorced couples, high-powered professionals.

And Li Xinxin… was a psychologist, well-versed in the art of hypnosis.

That short-haired woman had already been exposed as a villager. If they didn’t kill her, then who?

Besides…

She pulled the curtains shut, no longer looking at the scene below.

It had been a suic*de. She hadn’t laid a finger on her.

Tonight’s werewolf action still counted.

She wondered when Yu Hongbo would jump.

She could hardly wait…

A cold glint flashed off the dagger, reflecting in Li Xinxin’s emotionless eyes.

It wouldn’t be long now.

Soon, all the women in the villa would be gone.

At midnight, the clock began to chime—dong, dong, dong—each strike pounding like a drum against the hearts of the sleepless, sending chills deep into their bones.

Still shaken from the previous night, Bai Tang had braced the door with a chair and piled heavy blankets on the inner side of the bed. He and Yu Hongbo laid out a floor mattress together—no matter what kind of killer came with a gun this time, they were ready.

Bai Tang curled around Yu Hongbo protectively, feeling the head under his arm still shifting around. He gave it a gentle pat.

“Stop moving. Go to sleep.”

Yu Hongbo, who just needed to pee: “…”

A dreamless night.

It was a new morning. Yu Hongbo woke Bai Tang and brought him downstairs.

It was already late autumn. Normally, by this time of year, a little squirrel would have gathered enough food and entered hibernation mode.

The boy sat on the couch, his head nodding sleepily forward until he suddenly jerked awake. “Ah Bo, don’t move~”

He grabbed Yu Hongbo’s right hand to stop him from moving, then leaned against him and drifted off again.

One by one, the remaining survivors came downstairs. Everyone was present—except for the short-haired woman and Li Xinxin.

“The short-haired woman jumped,” Zheng Yao said.

Though she hadn’t liked her, the woman’s suic*de didn’t make sense. If she had been killed by a werewolf, that would’ve been understandable—after all, she was on the villager team. But there was no reason for her to take her own life.

“What about Li Xinxin?” she asked, scanning the room. Everyone else was here—except her.

“Maybe she overslept?” Yu Yi chimed in. “Why don’t we go check on her?”

Li Xinxin was a girl, and the rest of them were all men. If she happened to be changing clothes or doing something private, barging in as a group would be… awkward.

As for Bai Tang—well, he was “a girl” too. But look, he was curled up sleeping against Yu Hongbo. Better not wake him.

The game had been going on for several days, and yet, other than Yu Hongbo, no one had realized that Bai Tang was actually a boy. His disguise had been remarkably successful. Of course, it also helped that Yu Hongbo protected him and kept others from getting too close.

Yu Yi and Zheng Yao went upstairs and knocked on Li Xinxin’s door. There was no answer.

None of the doors could be locked from the inside—if they could, Liang Shengfu wouldn’t have been able to open Bai Tang’s room with a key (though he’d failed thanks to Yu Hongbo blocking the door).

Zheng Yao and Yu Yi came back downstairs and informed the group that the door wouldn’t open. That could only mean one thing—Li Xinxin was inside.

Aside from Yu Hongbo, a few of the other men went up together to force the door open.

Sure enough, Li Xinxin was in the room—face-down, slumped over the table.

Yu Yi walked over and gently nudged her.

“Xinxin?”

Li Xinxin was rolled over, revealing a face darkened with a purplish hue—clearly, she had been poisoned.

“Ah…” Yu Yi stepped back several paces in shock.

Zheng Yao picked up a black card lying on the floor. Printed on the front were three characters—Wolf Beauty.

“Looks like the witch used poison,” Hu Peng said calmly. After a good night’s rest, he had regained his composure.

Yesterday’s display of roles on the screen had, ironically, helped protect those with exposed special identities. Now, there was no longer any need for constant anxiety.

Everyone returned to the first-floor hall to begin the discussion and voting.

“I think the witch should step forward and tell us who the last werewolf is. We vote that person out, and the game ends,” Hu Peng said. After that, he fell silent.

The room went quiet—still, no one claimed the role of the witch.

The others grew impatient.

“If you know who it is, just say it! Isn’t it better to end the game early and go home?”

Still, no one came forward.

Zheng Yao broke the silence.

“Alright, since no one is stepping up, let’s speak in turn and prepare to vote.”

Pan Quan: “I went to bed very early last night. I didn’t leave my room.”

His role was Cupid—no killing ability, so there were no objections.

Yu Yi: “I also slept early, but I think I heard something heavy falling. It was probably the short-haired woman jumping.”

Zheng Yao suddenly questioned him, “Well, not necessarily. Maybe a werewolf pushed her. Among us, the ones who argued with her were me, you, and Bai Tang. But Bai Tang’s identity is confirmed—he’s a villager. So that leaves you and me as the main suspects.”

Yu Yi responded calmly and logically, “Honestly, is there anyone here who didn’t dislike her? We all had motive. I did, and so did you. But unless you show real proof, I’m not accepting whatever role card you claim.”

Zheng Yao shrugged, “I don’t have any proof.”

She hadn’t managed to force Yu Yi to reveal his identity, nor was she planning to expose hers. They still had no clue who the last batch of wolves were. At this point, it was down to luck.

Bai Tang said, “I was with Ah Bo. We didn’t hear anything.”

Their room was the farthest from the short-haired woman’s, so it made sense that they didn’t hear anything.

When it came time to vote, they picked one of the two background players who hadn’t stood out. Given that all known roles had been revealed, if the werewolf was male, it would be riskier than if it were a woman.

The vote was cast.

A single gunshot rang out. The big screen displayed: [The game continues!]

Author’s Note:

I’m so tired. It’s been a full week of intense overtime. Tomorrow I have to go on a business trip with my boss—six to seven hours round trip, and I get carsick. I probably won’t get home until really late tomorrow night. I’m just a tired little squirrel mama now. Saturday’s update might be delayed, so don’t stay up waiting for it, cuties. Go to bed early~ Love you all 💗
