Chapter 18 – Unique (vs) Wolf
Unlike the relaxed and cheerful atmosphere of Team One, everyone in Team Two wore a heavy expression before entering the match.
Three of the members had grown up under Wolf’s command, and the former captain’s authority still lingered. Now, facing him as their opponent, they couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Especially the current captain, Jerry—he had already gone to the restroom three times in a row.
Even after returning, he sat in his chair restlessly shaking his legs, trying to appear composed.
“Where are we jumping to?” he asked.
Dragon replied, “P City? That’s where we’ve practiced the most lately, and we’re familiar with the terrain.”
Ban frowned. “Wolf must know we’ve been practicing there. What if he comes to deal with us later?”
Jerry thought that made sense and said worriedly, “Then where should we jump? Jungle? I’m familiar with that spot—it’s unique.”
Ji Wei interjected, “Shouldn’t we check the flight path first?”
Ding— A notification popped up in the group chat. The staff had sent the room number. Ji Wei logged into the backup account provided by the coaches and entered the room.
The first game was on Erangel, AVG’s traditionally strong map. The route was a classic southwest-to-northeast path, stretching from Port P to the mountaintop ruins.
The countdown in the cabin showed 30 seconds.
Ji Wei’s pupils reflected the entire island map as his fingers lightly rubbed the mouse.
Surprisingly, Jerry seemed less nervous once the game started. He spoke with newfound steadiness:
“Never mind, with this route we’ll still drop to P City. We’ll have vehicles and resources. If we run into them, we’ll fight after farming quickly.”
Dragon added, “MKBK excels in jungle control. Let’s go P City. They’ll most likely pick M City or Y City. Team A has been working on coordination, so they’ll probably take the old route and drive to Port G.”
Ji Wei said firmly, “Don’t worry. If they also land in P City, we’ll just go guns blazing.”
Ban teased, “Unique is pretty bold. Didn’t he freeze up the last time he ran into Solve?”
Ji Wei felt slightly embarrassed and quickly changed the subject.
“I jumped. Make sure no one’s trailing behind.”
“There’s one!” Dragon spotted a long, diagonal line of players gliding in another direction. “Another team should be heading toward M City.”
Jerry: “Get ready to secure the point.”
Ban landed on the Maze Building, leaning out to check.
“Someone dropped into the garage. The spawn point’s under their control.”
Ji Wei scanned the surroundings, then quickly descended and retracted his parachute.
“I’m dropping to the three-story. Someone’s on me!”
Hearing the sound of another parachute snapping closed behind him, Ji Wei immediately vaulted through the window, grabbed an S1897 and two shotguns, and blasted the enemy who was trying to pick up a weapon.

Jerry frowned. “That ID doesn’t look like a sparring account.”
Ji Wei finished the man off. “It should be MKBK’s second team.”
Suddenly, a fierce burst of gunfire erupted. Ji Wei’s health dropped to half, and he quickly ducked back into cover.
“Someone’s heading to the opposite street!” Ji Wei ducked his head from the window as bullets shattered the glass in front of him.
Jerry quickly switched to the large map: “Ban the garage and don’t let them merge. Dragon, go set up.”
Dragon frowned. “I’m so unlucky. There’s only a pistol at the villa, and the guy in the garage is shooting at me.”
Ji Wei rolled over and jumped down the other side: “I’ll help you.”
Jerry: “Don’t come. They’re setting up you. They have a sniper!”
“It’s okay, I’ll hide.” Ji Wei maneuvered frantically as he scaled the wall. Three bullets whizzed by—it was an enemy sniper setting up his rifle on the rooftop of the Red Building.
He rushed into another building, blocking the view, and saw a 98K with a 4x scope lying on the ground. But around the corner, in a blind spot, a first aid kit was strategically placed next to it.
Ji Wei: ?
He looked at the first aid kit and said quietly, “I landed and took down one. Someone’s fighting Dragon in the garage, and another is in the Red Building. Guess where the last one is?”
Ban: “Where? He’s not fighting me, is he?”
Ji Wei: “In Blue Three.”
Dragon was shocked: “What? Isn’t that where you are?”
Jerry: “Do you need me to go over there for support?”
Ji Wei: “He’s right here with me. You don’t need to come.”
Fake supply point—this contrived tactic he’d used in his livestream eight hundred years ago.
He pulled out a prop and threw it into the small room. The burst of flames revealed an enemy crouching in the corner, and a flurry of footsteps could be heard.
Ji Wei carefully identified the footsteps, quickly ran to the other window, and shot the man dead.
BAN suddenly shouted over the voice chat: “The Red Building guys are also running to the garage! They’re driving to another location!”
Dragon: “Huh? You’re not saving the people Unique knocked down?”
Jerry: “Their teammates are all across the street. They can’t run over. They’re probably going to sell it. Get ready to sweep the cars.”
Ji Wei immediately passed over the opponent he had knocked down, ran upstairs, aimed his scope at the car in the garage, and coordinated with his teammates to fire a burst of fire.

Ban was overjoyed: “Yeah! We won! All that training in P City paid off!”
Jerry: “Hurry up and get some loot. Unique and I will take vision on the third floor. Dragon and Ban will go around the street and grab the single-family house.”
…
The game had reached the second stage. Although P City was still in the circle, it was only on the edge.
Jerry: “There was gunfire in Watertown just now. I suspect it’s Team One over there. Unique, let’s spread out.”
Ji Wei ran to the blue three-story building where he had just killed an enemy and shattered the second-floor window with two loud bangs.
Ban was startled. “What are you doing?”
Ji Wei replied calmly, “Upgrading his six-man strategy.”
Ban: “???”
Soon, two red sedans drove into P City.
One stopped at the northwest church, securing a commanding vantage point, while the other headed straight for the three-story building where Ji Wei and Jerry were hiding.
Inside the car were the members of AVG Team 1, who had just finished their fight in Water City.
Da Shu parked in a secluded spot, listening intently through his headphones. “What’s going on? Have you seen anyone?”
Yin Sijue: “Not yet, but I spotted a few boxes. They might still be around.”
Wolf: “I’ll head up to the third floor for a better view and check it out.”
Da Shu frowned. “No, what if someone’s still there?”
Wolf: “Look, a room’s been searched. There’s a box inside. I’ll take a look.”
Da Shu reminded him, “The captain said they might not have left yet. Clear the mines first.”
Wolf: “I’ve only got one grenade left. I burned through most of them earlier. That’s why I need to search—otherwise, what will I do in the finals?”
Still uneasy, Da Shu got out of the car and grabbed a grenade.
“Fine, I’ve got three more. I’ll throw them for you.”
He scoped the building, then lobbed two grenades each at the second and third floors. Still, no movement.
Wolf sneered. “See? I told you no one was here. What a waste of two grenades! The upstairs windows are all broken—someone already looted and left.”
Da Shu: “Alright, but be careful. If you find anything, share it. I’ll go check the perimeter.”
Wolf hurried upstairs and found two grenades lying beside the loot box.
He called out, “See? Nothing here. And you wasted yours for nothing.”
Da Shu smirked. “Then fine, I’ll look for my own.”
After Wolf picked up some supplies on the first floor, he grew even more confident the place was empty. Without hesitation, he rushed up to the second floor.
A medical kit lay conspicuously in the middle of the room.
Ji Wei crouched low, tucked into a blind spot beside the staircase. The earlier grenade blast had only grazed him—just enough to wound slightly without drawing attention.
Wolf spotted the med kit and instinctively ran to grab it.
The moment he bent down, gunfire erupted from the side room. Bullets tore through the air, catching him completely off guard. Four shots slammed into him, draining his health bar in an instant.
He panicked and tried to fire back, but Ji Wei gave him no chance—he landed a precise follow-up shot with his rifle.

Jerry cheered. “Beautiful!”
Ban laughed. “Awesome! So that’s why you shot out the window earlier—you actually managed to bait him in?”
Ji Wei hadn’t expected this method to actually work. He was just thankful it hadn’t been Solve who came upstairs—because even if he managed to trick Solve, he wouldn’t have been able to defeat him.
But while some were happy, others were frustrated.
At AVG’s base, the downed Wolf slammed his mouse.
“Fu*k! Is this guy insane?”
Da Shu, who had just been scolded for wasting a grenade, wanted to throw in a sarcastic jab. But he held back, not wanting to worsen team tension.
He said weakly, “Are you still there? I’ll head over—”
Before he could finish, the enemy attacked again, confirming Wolf’s kill and ending his game early.
The moment the screen went gray, Wolf slammed his keyboard, hard enough to make a point but not break it.
Yin Sijue quickly spoke up. “Calm down. Wolf, report the location. Da Shu, don’t move in yet. There might be teammates nearby. Wait for Mi Li and me. Someone just moved into the single-family house down the street. Don’t expose yourself.”
Wolf: “He didn’t loot. He jumped out and went to the second floor of the yellow building in the middle.”
Da Shu shifted position and frowned. “This [xiaohao0]… isn’t that the name of one of our backup accounts?”
Mi Li: “Didn’t Brother Qiu say the second team would be playing today? It must be one of them.”
Da Shu: “Huh? Damn, I forgot about that. But they’re mixed with sparring partners, right? Doesn’t mean it’s all second team.”
Yin Sijue, remembering he’d forgotten to mention the scrims that afternoon, jabbed back: “Haven’t you been forgetting a lot lately?”
Da Shu laughed awkwardly. “Still, if they managed to trick the starting lineup like that, they’re definitely not sparring partners. The second team’s earning themselves extra chicken legs tonight.”
Wolf frowned but stayed silent.
…
Meanwhile, Ji Wei kept his character hidden in a corner, catching his breath. Footsteps echoed in his headset. Killing Wolf had given away his position, and now the entire squad was closing in.
He shifted quietly, hugging the wall for cover, crouched low to avoid detection while listening for enemy movement.
Jerry’s voice came through the team chat, steady but tense. “The guys from the church are moving over.”
Ban said anxiously, “I can’t hit them from here. We should pull back. I moved a little just now—think they might’ve spotted me.”
Dragon: “Then let’s fall back too.”
Ji Wei cut in immediately. “No! Don’t come!”
He knew they couldn’t risk a direct fight. There was no way they could win against Solve, and with Mi Li there too, a head-on clash was suicide.
Ji Wei added firmly, “Even if we go together, we won’t win. You two swap positions and set up your attack instead.”
Then he caught himself—he wasn’t the commander. His voice faltered as he added awkwardly, “Jerry, I…”
On the other side, Jerry remained calm.
“It’s fine. You’re right—we can’t fight head-on right now. Ban, stay back and report their positions. Dragon, set up mid-range fire. Unique, you’re with me. We’ll close in and take down whoever we can!”
Elsewhere, Mi Li and Solve had already reached the three-story area, just two houses away from Ji Wei.
Da Shu kept tossing grenades, trying to force them out.
Ji Wei moved his mouse, scanning his surroundings. He was now completely within the crossfire of three enemies.
“They’re sealing with smoke! Southwest wall!”
The hiss of the smoke was followed by three distinct sets of footsteps—Yin Sijue and his men were closing in from three directions.
Ji Wei’s heartbeat quickened. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted an S12K in the nearby house.
Every version has its strongest weapon, and in this one, it was undoubtedly the shotgun. If he wanted to end a close-range fight quickly, grabbing one would be a huge advantage.
But going for it now would instantly reveal his position, and Da Shu—the closest to him—would definitely notice.
No matter. Ji Wei decided to gamble.
“I’m grabbing a shotgun. Jerry, be ready for a fight.”
Jerry: “Got it. I’m on my way.”
Ji Wei rushed into the house to grab the gun. His footsteps alerted Da Shu, and a burst of gunfire followed.
Jerry pulled the pin on a smoke grenade and lobbed two more toward Solve and Mi Li.
As the white smoke billowed at the intersection, Ji Wei barely had time to reload his S12K. Da Shu was already at the door, bullets grazing him as he dodged.
Ji Wei quickly tracked Da Shu’s position and fired two shots.
“Tree’s low!”
Jerry: “I see him!”

But before Jerry could celebrate, a sudden burst of gunfire erupted.
[AVG_Solve] used AKM to kil [AVG_Jerry]
While Jerry was finishing off Tree, Solve had found the perfect angle. He cut Jerry down instantly, then coordinated with Mili’s fire to secure the kill.
Da Shu, watching helplessly from his box, switched to Solve’s perspective and cursed.
“You stinky rat! Can’t stop farming, huh?”
Solve replied casually, “Well, Jerry killed me, so of course I need to know who this Xiaohao0 really is.”
Mi Li added, “Wait—Coach still hasn’t registered an official player ID for Unique?”
Da Shu: “No idea. I’ll ask him one of these days. We can’t let him keep playing with us without proper status.”
Ji Wei drew a sharp breath as he saw Jerry knocked down. Now he was left alone to face Solve and Mi Li.
Jerry regretted aloud, “Oh my god, I shouldn’t have gone to finish him off.”
Ji Wei: “It’s okay. It’s all good.”
He tossed his only grenade to block the intersection. As the flames spread, Ji Wei dodged and leapt, spraying twice at the enemies pushing from the other side. He himself was reduced to half health.
“Beautiful!” Jerry shouted. “Mi Li’s in serious condition. Ban and Dragon can move in.”
Ban nodded. “OK!”
Dragon lobbed a grenade forward, but just as it left his hand, his voice suddenly distorted in panic: “Roof! There’s someone on the roof—”
[AVG_Solve] used M24 to knock down [AVG_Dragon]
Ji Wei froze when he saw the announcement.
When did Solve get up there?
He actually had a sniper!
No time to think—he quickly located Solve’s position. A bullet grazed the edge of his level 3 helmet with a piercing whizz.
There was no way out! If he hesitated, Mi Li’s heal would finish.
Hearing the faint sound of a first aid kit, Ji Wei didn’t hesitate. He threw a flashbang toward the predicted spot and rushed forward.
Blinded, Mili stumbled as bullets tore into her. Ji Wei emptied the magazine toward the sound.

But almost instantly—
[AVG_Solve] used M24 to knock down [xiaohao0]
Sniped by Yin Sijue, Ji Wei made a quick call: “Ban, leave now.”
There was no way to reach him. Solve would definitely finish the job. Better to retreat and protect ranking points.
“Okay.” Ban obeyed, immediately running downstairs and jumping into the kart he’d parked earlier. He sped toward the center of the circle. Solve fired several sniper shots after him, but none landed.
Low on health, Ban gripped the steering wheel and let out a huge sigh of relief.
“Oh my god! Solve didn’t snipe me! I’ll brag about this for the next ten years!”
Ji Wei muttered under his breath, defending Solve, “He rarely uses a sniper at all. I don’t know why he pulled one out today.”
Jerry rolled his eyes. “You should be thanking Unique for his quick reaction! If not for him, you’d already be dead.”
Ban: “Hey, Unique, help me find a good hiding spot in this circle, yeah? Thanks too!”
Ji Wei: “…Okay.”
Under Ji Wei’s guidance, Ban survived all the way to second place, but was ultimately killed by Yin Sijue—earning himself a rude shock.
After the match, the scores were tallied, and AVG’s second team unexpectedly surpassed MKBK’s first team.
Da Shu leaned on his hand, staring at the stats as if deep in thought.
“Oh, MKBK is really unlucky. They ran into us in Shuicheng. Otherwise, their ranking might’ve climbed a bit.”
Mi Li: “They just quit right after the game without saying a word. I bet the coach is giving them hell.”
Da Shu: “Good thing this scrim won’t be made public. Otherwise, who knows what kind of controversy would blow up on Weibo and Tieba, right?”
Yin Sijue remained silent, eyes fixed on the stats, lost in thought.
Da Shu’s attempt to draw him into conversation fell flat, leaving him a little uneasy.
“Brother, what’s wrong? You upset because we didn’t play well just now?”
Yin Sijue snapped back to reality. “No. Let’s just wait for the coach to review the match.”
With that, he stood up and headed upstairs.
Da Shu called after him, “What are you doing? Aren’t we going to duo queue?”
“Go find the coach,” Yin Sijue replied, turning to glance at his overeager teammate. “If you can’t even hit people inside a building with two grenades, you’d better queue by yourself.”
Da Shu: “Damn it! You just said you weren’t angry!!”
