Chapter 343 – Your family’s plum blossom is lost again (20)
Yan Luo movements were light, and with her serious expression, it was as if she were saying, ‘Why are you misbehaving again?’
Snapping back to reality, Mu Ci’s gaze darkened slightly, a faint, unreadable glint flashing through his eyes.
That tone made him feel like he had ever been well-behaved in the first place.
“Let’s go back.” Mu Ci spoke, and in an instant, the unintentional warmth from before was reined in once again.
Out of habit, he took Yan Luo’s hand and led her outside.
Just as they stepped out of the classroom, they caught sight of Wang Shi bathed in the remnants of the setting sun, holding a book and explaining a problem to someone beside her. She seemed to glance up unintentionally—only to freeze for a moment at the sight of Yan Luo and Mu Ci holding hands as they walked home together.
Mu Ci clearly had no interest in acknowledging her and simply continued forward with Yan Luo.
He always made a point to slow his pace slightly so that Yan Luo wouldn’t have to rush to keep up.
Behind them, Yan Luo faintly heard someone explaining to Wang Shi, saying that the two of them had grown up together as childhood friends, that their relationship seemed quite close, and that holding hands on the way home was just normal for them…
It seemed like they said more, but the distance was too great for Yan Luo to catch the rest.
Just like before, Mu Ci led Yan Luo to the Yan family’s car waiting outside the school. After saying a few simple words, he let her get into the car and then disappeared again to who-knows-where.
Sitting by the window, Yan Luo watched as Mu Ci waved at her before turning and heading off in another direction. She couldn’t help but wonder where exactly he was going.
She had secretly sent people to follow him a few times before, only to find that he usually just went to bars or hung out with his rowdy friends.
It all seemed messy, but he never truly lost control.
Thinking back to everything she had done in the past—all the times she believed she was helping him, doing things for his own good, even trying to secure what rightfully belonged to him in the Mu family—yet every single time, he would increase the blackening value…
Now, seeing that he wasn’t getting into real trouble, she simply stopped interfering.
With a sigh, she rested her chin on her palm.
“Scam Pink, I feel like a nagging old mom. Is this kid going through a rebellious phase? Smoking and drinking, he knows how to do it all.”
What a headache.
When she arrived home, she had barely stepped through the door when she saw Yan Luzheng sitting on the couch watching the news.
Noticing that she had returned alone, his brows raised slightly.
“Where’s that brat? Did he go home, or is he out messing around again?” Yan Luzheng shot her a glare.
Mu Ci’s relationship with the Yan family wasn’t particularly deep. Yan Luo had often declared she would marry him, but it was nothing more than words. No one had ever truly acknowledged or taken it seriously.
Mu Ci’s status in the Mu family was awkward at best. Yan Luzheng had always found it strange, but he never really intended to keep the boy in the Yan household permanently.
That was until his little princess got lost on her way home from school—again—and was brought back by Mu Ci—again.
Eventually, Yan Luzheng gave up resisting.
Well, having someone pick up and drop off his little princess wasn’t such a bad thing…
Over time, Mu Ci started spending more and more time at the Yan house.
After all, Yan Luzheng had watched him grow up since he was five or six. Over the years, he had inevitably developed some attachment to the boy. It wouldn’t be wrong to say Mu Ci was like half a grandson to him.
Mu Ci was always well-behaved in front of him and Yan Luo. Given his own position, disciplining Mu Ci felt neither appropriate nor inappropriate. But in the end, Yan Luzheng realized the boy never really got into serious trouble.
And as for academics… well, it was clear the boy had no talent for that.
So, in the end, he simply let the boy be.
