Chapter 332 – Your family’s plum blossom is lost again (9)
The voice was too sharp, and the meaning it carried was deeply unsettling.
Yan Luo was startled and instinctively pulled Mu Ci forward a couple of steps, turning back in alarm to look at Gu Mingli.
Gu Mingli’s words, spoken in a moment of lost composure, were abruptly cut off as Mu Beicheng yanked her hand forcefully. Whatever she had been about to say was swallowed halfway back down.
Yan Luzheng found their reaction odd, but his expression darkened as he turned to Mu Ci and asked, “Mu Ci is your biological child?”
“Of course, of course! His birth certificate and blood test report are right here.” Mu Beicheng’s eyes flickered with a trace of nervousness as he frowned and shoved Gu Mingli slightly behind him, forcing a somewhat awkward smile.
A blood test report? Even among wealthy families, it wasn’t common practice to conduct one right from the start. But then again, such evidence was indisputable.
Yan Luzheng stepped forward two paces, suspicion flickering in his eyes. Pushing aside the irritation brewing within him, he continued, his voice carrying an unmistakable chill, his presence commanding without the need for anger. “So, what you’re saying is that my Yan family’s cherished daughter isn’t good enough for your Mu family?”
Gu Mingli suddenly realized the implications of what she had just said. A flicker of panic and fear crossed her eyes, though whether she feared Yan Luzheng or something else was unclear. Her face turned pale as she took a few steps back.
“No, no, President Yan, that’s not it at all,” Mu Beicheng hastily clarified. “My wife simply thinks the children are too young. Our little Ci doesn’t understand anything yet. It really wouldn’t be appropriate to set such an arrangement for them now—we worry they might resent us for it when they grow up. Don’t you think so, President Yan?”
Arrange what, exactly? Quit overthinking things.
Yan Luzheng really wanted to say that to the couple directly. But when he glanced at his precious granddaughter’s bright, expectant eyes, the corners of his lips twitched slightly, and he swallowed the words back.
Despite his doubts, he couldn’t ignore the fact that Mu Ci was the one who had brought his granddaughter back. And judging by Yan Luo’s behavior, he couldn’t simply leave things be. Mu Beicheng and Gu Mingli’s reactions were undeniably strange, further deepening his suspicions.
After a moment of contemplation, he finally spoke. “Your son seems about the same age as my granddaughter. Since Luoluo likes him, perhaps they should spend more time together.”
The moment the words left his mouth, he noticed Mu Beicheng’s expression shift instantly, as if the mere suggestion made him uneasy. Yan Luzheng frowned slightly.
Meanwhile, his little princess’ eyes lit up. She blinked her big eyes, staring at him eagerly.
Yan Luzheng couldn’t help but twitch his lips again. It was painfully obvious how much his granddaughter adored this little boy. Since Luoluo liked the boy, he didn’t mind shielding the boy from whatever troubles lay ahead.
“Can I invite Xiao Gege to stay at our house?” Yan Luo blinked up at him, her eyes full of anticipation now that he seemed unusually agreeable.
“No.” Yan Luzheng shut her down without hesitation.
Helping was one thing, but letting this boy steal his beloved granddaughter? Absolutely not.
Not in a million years!
“Luoluo, come here. It’s time to go home. It’s going to thunder soon. You can play with Xiao Gege another day, okay?” Seeing how reluctant his little princess was to part, Yan Luzheng tried his best to suppress the vein throbbing on his forehead. He crouched down slightly, his voice soft and coaxing.
