Chapter 305 – Great God, I heard you’re going to travel a thousand li to deliver (39)
Yan Luo was already feeling unwell. She let out a muffled sound and, sensing him leaning closer, couldn’t help but lift her hand irritably to push him away.
She looked exactly like someone saying, “Get lost, don’t bother me while I’m resting.”
Fang Shi, not daring to provoke her, quickly retracted his head and gazed down at the drowsy figure in his arms, warmed by his body heat.
The corners of his lips twitched as his greedy eyes traced every inch of her face.
Her hair was slightly disheveled, her complexion pale, and her lips a little colorless. She looked both sleepy and exhausted—like a stray cat, independent and stubborn, always seeming ready to scratch at anyone who got too close.
Feeling the warmth of her in his arms, Fang Shi sighed softly. Given her temper, this was probably the only time he could get away with this. Once she felt better, who knew what kind of trouble she’d stir up?
A faint smile played on his lips as his eyes narrowed slightly.
Besides, he still didn’t know exactly what had happened. That needed to be figured out carefully.
By early morning the next day, the pain in her lower abdomen had eased considerably. All night long, it was as if a human-sized furnace had been pressed against her back, keeping her warm.
As she slowly opened her eyes and glanced around, she found that the person who had insisted on staying over under some noble pretext now had his head buried against her neck, sleeping soundly.
She blinked, feeling the softness of the bed beneath her. Then, raising a hand, she pinched his earlobe with slight force.
*Hiss—*
Abruptly yanked from his dreams, Fang Shi’s eyes snapped open, a dark and dangerous glint flashing across them. His arms instinctively tightened around her, but in the next instant, he relaxed.
Blinking in confusion at his surroundings, he scooted closer with a pitiful look. “Luoluo, you’re awake? Feeling better?”
One hand pressed against his face to keep him from getting too close, while the other still held onto his earlobe. Yan Luo eyed him, disheveled from sleep with his messy hair and groggy expression, and instinctively leaned away.
“Don’t stack my name like that. It makes it sound like a girl’s.”
Fang Shi : …Aren’t you actually a girl?
“And…”
She sat up and shot him a sidelong glance. “Explain to me, why are you in my bed?”
Early morning. Two people waking up together. One in a bathrobe, the other with rumpled clothes. No matter how you looked at it, the scene screamed “suspicious”.
The culprit in question, however, looked completely innocent.
“You fell asleep. It wouldn’t have been comfortable sleeping on the couch like that, so I carried you over.”
“And you?”
“I had to keep you warm, of course.” He grinned, even flashing his little tiger teeth.
It made her want to smack him.
“Oh, how reasonable of you.” Yan Luo rolled her eyes and got out of bed. She was feeling warmer, but now the sweat sticking to her skin was unbearable. She turned to head toward the bathroom.
Before she could take a step, a hand caught hers and yanked her back.
She was suddenly pulled into that same warm embrace from last night.
His head dipped down, pressing lightly against her hair. His voice, still raspy from sleep, murmured, “Don’t be mad, okay?”
—I just like you too much.
And also…
The way she spoiled him, treated him differently, told him her secrets from the very start, could he take it as a sign that…
Maybe his feelings weren’t just wishful thinking?
The struggle in his arms slowed, her resistance softening.
Soft when coaxed, but proud and temperamental when pushed.
A dark glint flickered in his eyes as his fingers idly traced circles on her waist.
“Can you tell me what happened?”
