Chapter 302 – Great God, I heard you’re going to travel a thousand li to deliver (36)
The person nestled in the single-seater sofa exuded a languid elegance, like a lazy cat waiting to be petted. Yet, her complexion was so pale, carrying a delicate fragility that made one’s heart ache.
Fang Shi took in the sight, his heart nearly melting into a puddle.
How could someone be this cute and beautiful? How could they be this utterly lovable?
Even when throwing a tantrum and glaring, she was still so adorable, so irresistible. He just wanted to take her home as soon as possible…
He completely gave up on correcting his own thoughts. Or rather, in front of Yan Luo, he had long since forgotten to even attempt fixing these messy thoughts. He stared at her, completely lost in his own imagination.
“How long do you plan on staring?” The gaze from behind was practically scorching, making Yan Luo lazily glance back, raising an eyebrow. Her hair was almost dry by now, and her demeanor had a distinct air of using something up and discarding it.
Fang Shi’s gaze briefly landed on her lips before he quickly looked away, suppressing his thoughts. He grinned slightly, revealing two small tiger teeth, a glint flashing in his eyes as he suddenly remembered the water boiling in the kitchen. “I’ll make you some brown sugar water.”
Without waiting for Yan Luo’s response, he turned and walked into the kitchen. Opening the fridge, he found it nearly empty, save for a few condiments. His brows furrowed slightly as he took out the brown sugar.
Though his hands remained busy, his thoughts gradually darkened. He cared about Yan Luo, but apart from confirming her home address and school, he hadn’t deliberately looked into any of her private affairs.
After all, paper can’t cover fire. More than that, he had no filter around her—he feared that the more he knew, the more he might slip up and end up sabotaging his own pursuit.
But now, it seemed that her situation wasn’t as simple as he had imagined.
And on top of that, after all his mental preparation, after all his overthinking—she was actually a girl. Even a child wouldn’t believe that there weren’t some complicated entanglements involved.
Lost in thought, he carefully carried the brown sugar water back to the living room.
Yan Luo was still curled up on the sofa, her pale fingers pressing against her lower abdomen, looking slightly uneasy.
Suddenly, an unfamiliar ringtone chimed from a corner. Fang Shi paused, placing the brown sugar water on the table before watching as she lazily fished her phone out from the cushions, glanced at the screen, and answered.
“Hello? Professor, what’s the matter?”
Fang Shi was sitting close enough that, with his keen hearing, he faintly caught a few words from the other end of the call.
—”Pouring cold water… saying she’s your sister… trying to avoid disciplinary action…”
Piecing it together, he got the general idea.
The person who had poured cold water all over her today claimed to be her sister and wanted to settle things without an official reprimand.
Poured cold water?
Fang Shi’s expression darkened instantly.
He recalled the sickly pallor on her face when he first arrived, his fingers curling slightly, itching to snatch the phone from her hand.
The air around him grew heavy with an unspoken pressure.
Yan Luo raised an eyebrow slightly, looking at this little princess of hers who clearly needed to be coaxed. She couldn’t help but chuckle softly, reaching out and gently wrapping her fingers around one of his.
The cool touch against his fingertips snapped Fang Shi out of his turbulent emotions.
His gaze dropped, staring at the hand holding his own.
Just like in the photo he had saved—
Pale, slender, and stunningly beautiful.
