Chapter 263 – Professor, Please Don’t Raise Zombies (53)
“Hey, hey, what are you doing?”
“Doing you.”
Yan Che said nothing, casually tossing the book aside.
“What exactly are you trying to do? Speak!”
“Doing you.”
Still holding Yan Luo, Yan Che remained silent. It was only when the girl started making a fuss that he finally spoke, his tone carrying a hint of dissatisfaction. “Is that thing better looking than me? Why are you even reading something made by such a foolish guy?”
“That was such a touching love story! And in your mouth, it just turns into foolishness?” Yan Luo widened her eyes and muttered, but her steps still followed Yan Che’s as she rambled on, “What if you get so caught up in your scientific research that you forget about me…”
The more she spoke, the more absurd it became. But he couldn’t hit her or scold her.
Yan Che suddenly stopped in his tracks, pulled the girl into his arms, and then—without a word—stuffed something into her mouth.
It shut her up instantly.
Seeing her eyes widen as she stared at him with that thing in her mouth, Yan Che couldn’t help but laugh out of sheer exasperation.
He pinched her waist, leaned in close—so close that his voice, though gentle, sent a shiver down Yan Luo’s spine. With her mouth full, she couldn’t speak, only watching him warily.
“What was that again? I’d get so caught up in research that I’d forget about you, and then you’d get some terminal illness?” His voice carried an unmistakable threat.
Seeing the girl’s gaze dart away, Yan Che smacked her lightly on the head. “I only called him foolish. If it were me…”
His eyes locked onto hers.
The stare lasted a little too long. Yan Luo blinked, feeling her heartbeat quicken.
She realized the thing in her mouth was a crystal core. Its rich, sweet flavor made her tongue flick against it, reluctant to bite down.
“As if I’d ever put you aside for something like that,” he said. “I’ve already put you at the center of my heart, you know?”
He knew, clearer than anyone, what mattered most to him.
“You,” he murmured, “are the most important thing to me.”
More important than himself.
Yan Luo stared at him. Then—crunch—she bit the crystal core in half.
“Greedy little thing.”
The atmosphere was completely ruined by his teasing. Yan Che couldn’t help but laugh as he ruffled her hair and half-embraced her, leading her back. “Let’s go home.”
As Yan Luo crunched away at the core, Yan Che spoke in his usual gentle tone.
Once she chewed it into small enough pieces, she finally had space in her mouth to speak. Her voice was soft, a little muffled, “But what about here? Are we just leaving it alone?”
“What does it matter?” Yan Che said carelessly. “The virus keeps evolving, human abilities keep growing stronger. Let them stir up trouble—it has nothing to do with us.”
Once they got in the car, Yan Che sped off at an almost impatient pace.
Yan Luo found it odd. It wasn’t until she had completely swallowed the core that she realized what the bastard had done.
A rush of power spread through her body, transforming her weak cells one by one. She felt warm, full—almost too full. A soft whimper escaped her lips.
And then she clearly felt the man beside her grow even more excited. If he weren’t driving, he might’ve taken off flying.
She was about to level up.
As her body reached saturation, the girl curled up slightly, slowly absorbing and transforming the energy inside her. She had no idea how much time passed before the car suddenly screeched to a stop.
A pair of hands reached over—directly lifting her into his arms.
