Chapter 223 – Professor, Please Don’t Raise Zombies (13)

The innocent zombie, who had been caught in the crossfire and didn’t even have time to react, wore a confused expression.

Why wasn’t this human following the usual playbook?

Logically, they should at least be testing each other’s abilities before clashing head-on, right?

Even though this human gave off a very dangerous vibe…

This zombie had already evolved to Level 4, and unlike Yan Luo, who relied on her abilities to evade high-level zombies and only hunt lower-level ones, this Level 4 zombie was a battle-hardened survivor.

Flames erupted around its body, quickly spreading along the vines controlled by Yan Che.

The level four zombie let out a screech and lunged forward, attacking Yan Che.

Another vine shot up from the ground, blocking the zombie’s jump.

It hastily dodged to the side, avoiding a direct hit, but still received a heavy strike.

Its left arm was almost shattered, the bones crushed into pieces.

Having reached such an evolved physical strength, how could it be so easily injured by a single blow from this human?

A flicker of caution appeared in the Level 4 zombie’s eyes. If it had reached Level 4, it was no fool.

This man in front of it was certainly not someone it could take on. However, seeing the smile tugging at the corner of his lips, as though he had found a new toy, it realized it was trapped. For the first time, the zombie felt genuine fear.

Its gaze involuntarily shifted toward Yan Luo.

A Level 5 zombie… Though she was one level higher, it was about to evolve and would not be without a chance against a Level 5, especially since this particular zombie seemed weak in comparison to it.

If it could land a hit and swallow her crystal core, it would have a much better chance against this human.

With this thought, the zombie quickly moved, first feigning an attack on Yan Che. As soon as Yan Che raised his hand again casually, it swiftly shifted to attack behind Yan Che.

A giant fireball shot toward the place where Yan Luo had been hiding.

Seeing the huge fireball coming toward her, Yan Luo blinked in confusion, retreating just in time. But as she jumped away, a hand grabbed her waist.

It pulled her sharply into a warm embrace. The familiar scent enveloped her, and as she was steadied, she heard a soft, cold chuckle.

Yan Luo turned to look, only to see the zombie still in the air. The giant fiery vine trailing behind it had moved and wrapped around it before the zombie could react, tightening mercilessly.

It looked painful.

Yan Luo’s small body shivered slightly. “Yan Che?”

“Why aren’t you running?” Yan Che still smiled, but the coldness in his eyes hadn’t faded. He tapped Yan Luo’s little head, as if slightly annoyed.

She had wanted to run… Didn’t he pull her back himself?

Yan Luo pursed her lips and snorted in dissatisfaction.

The fiery vine vanished, and there was no trace left of the level four zombie. Instead, a clump of black, suspicious dust fell, with a faint glimmer of light. A slender vine pulled it out and brought it to Yan Che’s hand.

A crimson crystal core. Yan Luo blinked and immediately focused all her attention on it.

It smelled so good! Way better than the last one! (¯﹃¯)

Yan Che raised his hand and gently shook the crystal core, noticing how the little zombie in his arms stared at it with wide eyes. He couldn’t help but laugh softly.

Not a trace of regret remained in his heart for the experiment subject that had turned into ash.
