Mu Ye’s body temperature was much higher, and he felt especially warm under the blanket. After sleeping together with Song Jianchu, they felt like they were sleeping in a warm stove every day, very comfortable.

“How should I tell the story?” he asked, “What do you want to hear?”

Mu Ye requested, “A story that can lull me to sleep.”

“A bedtime story?”

Song Jianchu pondered for a moment, trying to recall a suitable bedtime story to tell. He had mostly forgotten the fairy tales he used to read when he was a child, only vague fragments remained.

Song Jianchu asked, “Can’t you fall asleep?”

Mu Ye replied, “No.”

Song Jianchu offered his usual method, “How about counting sheep?”

Mu Ye laughed at this suggestion, “You count?”

Because Song Jianchu used to study until late every day in school, he compared his sleep deprivation to Mu Ye’s and had always had good sleep quality. He rarely suffered from insomnia, except when he was too exhausted to fall asleep.

He said, “Count a few times.”

He thought it was amusing that someone who appeared so mature still retained the childhood habit of counting sheep when unable to sleep.

Mu Ye found it too adorable and just wanted to hug him and take a bite, but he managed to hold back.

“Who taught you that?” Mu Ye asked curiously.

“I forgot,” Song Jianchu thought for a moment, “It might have been my mom. I’ve been counting since I was little.”

Mu Ye fell silent for a moment, lowered his head, and pressed his face against Song Jianchu’s shoulder. He said, “Then you count for me.”

Could that really help?

Song Jianchu said in a perplexed manner, “You have to count in your mind.”

Mu Ye said, “I want to hear you count.”

Song Jianchu hesitated briefly but eventually withstood his boyfriend’s coaxing.

Closing his eyes, he slowly began to count, “One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four sheep…”

“Fifteen sheep, sixteen sheep…”

“Seventeen…”

As he continued counting, Song Jianchu’s voice grew softer and he was almost putting himself to sleep.

Mu Ye couldn’t bear to fall asleep and just kept watching this adorable scene.

After Song Jianchu fell asleep, his phone buzzed a few times near the pillow. It was quiet for a few seconds, then buzzed twice more.

He didn’t know who kept sending messages.

Mu Ye frowned, reached out carefully to pick up the phone, slid the screen to shut it down, and hugged Song Jianchu tightly again.

The next morning, while Song Jianchu was still asleep, Mu Ye quietly got up and went to find Dr. Zhao.

Mu Ye asked anxiously, “Has the matching result come out?”

Dr. Zhao shook his head, “Not yet, it will be out tomorrow or the day after for sure.”

Mu Ye fell silent for half a minute and said calmly, “Dr. Zhao, we can’t wait any longer. We need to transfer to another hospital. If the matching is successful, we’ll undergo the transplant surgery there.”

Dr. Zhao nodded, “Alright, I have already communicated with Professor Yan. The timing is right for the transfer. He is one of the most accomplished experts and scholars in the field of blood disorders in the world. Currently, he is mainly occupied with academic work, and it’s not easy to get him to accept clinical patients. Hopefully, a miracle will happen there. We need to make preparations for the transfer and help communicate the transfer process with the receiving hospital.”

Mu Ye said, “Thank you, you’ve worked hard.”

Dr. Zhao smiled, “Wishing you good luck.”

After Song Jianchu woke up and found Mu Ye wasn’t there, he continued discussing the details with the planner on his phone.

The door to the ward was pushed open, and Mu Ye’s footsteps were very light, which Song Jianchu heard.

“Chatting with Yin Chi again?” Mu Ye’s voice suddenly sounded nearby.

Song Jianchu looked surprised and immediately locked his phone, saying, “Um… yes.”

Mu Ye smiled and asked, “Didn’t you chat with him yesterday?”

“There’s something.” Song Jianchu said.

Mu Ye stared for a few seconds and asked softly, “What secret are you chatting about?”

Song Jianchu smiled and replied, “Just chatting about random things.”

“What can you only talk about with him?” Mu Ye’s tone was gentle, “I called you several times, and you didn’t respond.”

Mu Ye called?

Song Jianchu clearly heard Mu Ye calling just now and apologized, “I’m sorry, I heard you.”

Mu Ye fell silent for a moment, then softly said, “I’m not happy, you didn’t comfort me.”

Song Jianchu helplessly laughed, “Why would you be angry? Let’s talk about something.”

Mu Ye gazed at him, his eyes gradually turning red, and asked softly, “Are you tired of me?”

Since being hospitalized, Mu Ye had always been composed and reliable. It surprised Song Jianchu that he would become emotional over such a small matter.

Song Jianchu was stunned for a few seconds and felt a bit at a loss. He took out a tissue and handed it over, saying, “Mu Ye, don’t be like this, it’s my fault.”

Mu Ye took the tissue but turned his face away.

Song Jianchu panicked and immediately reached out his hand, saying, “Come here, let me hug you.”

Mu Ye looked at him with a hint of grievance, took a slow step forward, and leaned down to embrace him.

“You ignored me,” Song Jianchu frowned and hugged Mu Ye, blaming himself, “It’s all my fault. You can take my phone, we won’t chat anymore.”

Mu Ye silently tightened his arms without saying a word.

Feeling that the fabric on his shoulder seemed a little damp, Song Jianchu’s body stiffened.

Song Jianchu furrowed his brow tighter and patted Mu Ye’s back, speaking softly, “Mu Ye, I know I was wrong. From now on, I’ll only talk to you. Don’t be angry anymore.”

“Darling,” Mu Ye suddenly chuckled muffledly on his shoulder and said, “Why are you so good at lying?”

Song Jianchu looked bewildered, “Huh?”

“But…” Mu Ye’s voice turned hoarse as he said, “If it were someone else, they would’ve been deceived both financially and romantically.”

Paused for a moment, Mu Ye said, “It’s different.”

Song Jianchu’s gaze flickered, not quite understanding what Mu Ye meant.

Mu Ye straightened up with a smile and pinched his cheeks. “Chu Chu, you really don’t know how to coax.”

Song Jianchu looked utterly confused, observing Mu Ye’s return to normal. “Then how should I coax?”

Mu Ye squinted, implying, “Didn’t I teach you?”

Did Mu Ye teach such things?

Song Jianchu pondered for a moment, instantly remembering something, and his ears gradually grew warm.

He pretended to remember naturally.

“You remembered?” Mu Ye stood by the bed, pressing his head against his body as he hugged him, and said expectantly, “Try coaxing me again.”

Song Jianchu buried his face in Mu Ye’s clothes, feeling ashamed and struggling internally.

Draining most of his mental strength, he called softly, “…Brother.”

Mu Ye pinched his earlobe and smiled, “Is that how I taught you?”

Perhaps during this period, whether in mind or body, Song Jianchu had grown up a little more, and the use of endearing terms made him feel even more embarrassed.

Exhausting the remaining of his mental strength, his face turned bright red, and in a calm tone, he called, “Big brother.”

Mu Ye cupped his face, gently surveying him from above, and sighed softly, “Still not quite there as a brother, otherwise it wouldn’t work.”

Song Jianchu thought for a moment and felt that having Mu Ye as a real older brother would be nice.

If there was such a brother, perhaps today wouldn’t be like this.

Song Jianchu thought that his life would definitely be different.

If he had grown up with Mu Ye as his older brother, he might have been more playful, more rebellious, maybe even skipping classes and getting into fights, and teachers would have been calling his parents every day.

He definitely wouldn’t force himself to face those boring and monotonous textbooks every day, instead he would do everything he could to seek Mu Ye’s attention.

He could receive gifts from Mu Ye on his birthday and prepare surprises for him on Mu Ye’s birthday. During holidays, they could play games together, watch movies, and eat snacks. He could waste time freely and enjoy his brother’s care, without constantly worrying about his own future.

If his brother had a girlfriend, he would definitely make a big fuss about it.

That carefree life, having someone to rely on.

He really wanted to experience it once.

“Darling,” Mu Ye kissed his knitted hat and said gently, “The concert won’t be postponed. I have to go to the studio for final preparations today. I’ll probably come in the afternoon, and Yin Chi will take care of you later.”

Not postponed?

Song Jianchu breathed a sigh of relief, but there was a vague sense of indescribable loss.

What’s the difference? Watching the livestream would be the same.

Song Jianchu nodded. “Go ahead, take care of your work.”

Mu Ye said with a hint of jealousy, “Feel free to share your little secret.”

Song Jianchu replied, “…”

After Yin Chi arrived, Mu Ye felt relieved and went out.

Yin Chi made sure Mu Ye had left and closed the ward, then handed a document to Song Jianchu. “Take a look. This is the guest list for the funeral that was prepared last night. It’s full of A-list stars. Cross out the ones you don’t like.”

Song Jianchu did have plans to make it that grand, but Yin Chi’s expression was serious, indicating that he had stayed up all night. Song Jianchu could only accept the document.

“It’s too many,” he said. “Just invite the ones I know.”

“Look at you, do as you wish,” Yin Chi crossed his arms and said. “But we must maintain a basic level of prestige. Anyway, take a look and strike out the ones you don’t want. I’ll take care of the rest.”

The weight of arranging a funeral by himself suddenly felt heavy.

Song Jianchu quickly glanced through the document.

Indeed, it was a gathering of superstars. If they were all brought together, the entertainment industry would come to a halt for a day.

“Brother, let me make it clear upfront. I agree to play along this time, but it doesn’t mean I want you to give up treatment.” Yin Chi spoke seriously. “Anyway, this plan can still be preserved. Let’s prepare a grand event decades in advance. But you must persist until the bone marrow transplant, understand?”

Song Jianchu replied lightly, “Mhm,” and put the document in the bedside table drawer. “Thanks, I’ll give it to you tomorrow.”

“Is it okay to leave it there? Make sure you keep it. Mu Ye mustn’t find out.” Yin Chi was worried, a little fearful. “Not everyone can understand something like this. If Mu Ye finds out that you arranged your own funeral in advance, who knows how he’ll react.”

Yin Chi considered it from another perspective and looked at his brother with concern. “…He might want to kill you.”

Song Jianchu smiled lightly, “No, I understand.”

“Let me tell you, don’t judge a book by its cover.” Yin Chi reminded him. “The calmer they usually seem, the scarier it is when they get angry, especially someone like Mu Ye, who always seems gentle and is the only one in this industry that’s hard to figure out. I used to be a little scared of him.”

Song Jianchu lowered his eyelashes.

It was because Mu Ye’s nature was so gentle that Song Jianchu didn’t dare to mention this matter, fearing that he would think too much in advance.

“Just be careful.” Yin Chi sighed. “Your brother is willing to accompany you at the cost of his own life.”
